Rythem: Right now I'm comfortable with about 1000 points. I have more models, but for the purpose of learning the game I think that's enough to keep track of for now. I am generally available to play during the week, in the evenings...& The occasional weekened.

Where do you suggest for Monday to Thursday evenings?

This is incorrect. If you go to Wilson station and go all the way upstairs, you can get on the 165D Weston Road North bus that will let you off right at the corner of Weston and Langstaff. From there its only about a 5 minute walk in.

I'm hoping to get a game in tomorrow at 3pm, if anyone is down. I'm pretty comfortable with a 1000 points or more.

Sadly, I'm really only availiable wednesdays and saterdays.

Wednesday, I have a standing arrangement with my brother at legends, just in case no one else is there we can both get a game in with each other. If you're there wednesday, then you're more than welcome to participate.

Depending on how much painting I get done, I might be available for a game on Saturday. That's the day everyone is trying to go to legends though, isn't it?

Yeah at this point I think we are looking at gaming at legends on saturday, unpainted models don't bother me in any kind of way. I'd say that at least 1/2 my nids aren't painted and i'm just starting an eldar force so it won't be painted for a long time .

Kungfu: If spender isn't available that day, how would you guys feel about a 1v1v1 game or 2v1, also what time do you guys usually meet up.

Ooo sounds like there will be 3 of us there at 2pm for a game, might need to do either 1v1v1, unless someone else shows up. Or we could do a 2v1, i'll bring both my armies just incase.

I see, ok well I am up for anything. I'll be there at 2 and we can see if there are others able to play. I don't mind doing a 1vs1vs1, never tried it but could be fun.
I have my 1850 list ready to go so see you at 2.

We would like to thank all the participants of the 40k tournament we held on Nov. 18th at Legends Warehouse. Some epic battles and epic fun. When the smoke of battle cleared Joe D ( Tyranids ) squeeked a first place by a single point over Brandon G.( Demons ) Michael P ( Chaos Marines ) and Chadi F ( Grey Knights ) tied for 3rd and 4th. Thanks again to everybody for making it a fun day.

Hey guys, I was wondering if there is a way to get some feedback on if there was a good day to do a regular 40k gaming night at Legends. I talked to a couple guys that have said Sunday but I'd like to hear from more people.

I'd personally be ok with Sunday afternoons and weekdays are tough. To be fair, I was a very irregular "regular" at Langstaff as well.

Most guys on here are avaliable durring the day during the week and alot tend to play on Sundays at either Legends or Meeplemart. Both are at opposite ends of the City. Just post or send out a couple of PM's and I'm sure you'll find people to game with

Hey, http://www.legendswarehouse.ca/ is there web address, but sadly they aren't open Mondays. Actually I've found that most gaming stores are closed Mondays now that i think about it. As for Thursday/Friday it would depend on what time you were looking to game, since most of my nights are owned by my gf I have a set time I can get games in.

Yeah, at this point i'm free Thursday 11-7, and Friday 11-6 if either of those time frames work with you. I'm not partial to either day so whichever works best for you is good with me. Did you have a point value in mind, I generally play 1850 these days since that is the size of the tournies I "play" in but I can do most levels comfortably.

Getting back into the WH40k scene.

Any players from north of the city? I live in Aurora, but can travel a bit. I used to play all the time at the downtown bunker, was the only place with decent tables and scenery.

Well, as a matter of fact, I am back. I have been traveling more than I've been staying at home over the past few months. However, I am now in town until the end of February. I have played a total of one game with sixth edition several months back. I would love to dust off my fabulous dark elder crew and bring death and destruction to Legends. Oh, actually that's not entirely true. I will be in Tennessee the next two weekends. However, I am available any other time until the end of February. I stopped by the store yesterday to say hello to the Legends gang.

So I am now just getting caught up with reading all of the posts on Dakka.

I hope to be able to game with you guys very soon, as long as you are tolerant of my poor knowledge of sixth edition.

Now that I'm back in town, I would love to become regular again. (No fiber jokes guys).... I play dark eldar and I also have a full Tyranid army that I have never used.

I only play at Legends.

It's a safer bet to try and set up games on either dakkadakka or their fb page. Legends is more of a destination spot to game at, so you are way more likely to find a game if you set up something on the forums than just showing up.

Welcome back and happy new year to everyone, I find that 6th edition rules seem way more daunting to look at then they are to play, the only rules that still get me going back and rereading a lot are all the different forms and rules for cover saves, everything else is pretty intuitive which is strange when you considering this is gw we're talking about .

Welcome to the Toronto 40k scene, and it's your lucky day, you have found the local forum already . If you are looking for games just post your location and what your schedule looks like in here and i'm sure you will get some responses. Toronto has a lot of stores that can accommodate 40k, it all depends on your location, what kind of transportation you have, and how far you are willing to travel.

Hi, I have a freshly painted 750 point Tau army I'd love to get some action with this week or the next. I can meet at meeple, DG or Legends depending on what people prefer.

I've read the 6th ed rulebook extensively and have my typed out army list and codex book but I've yet to play an actual game.

If anyone wanted to meet up I'd love to be a part of a game : )

I've read the rulebook, though I don't own a hard copy of it, nor do I want the starter set as I have no desire to play another dark angels or chaos army
so I'll have to wait and buy the little book second hand

Rematch? Oh, c'mon Optimus... If I agree to show up with my Dark Eldar, you probably will go Missing In Action You are so scared of the Splintering Dark Matter that emits from the mouths of my many guns....

Did you say MoreDakka will be with you???? He still exists??? Hey, MoreDakka.... please bring my Dark Eldar stuff with you... getting you to paint was like signing a 3 year contract with Fido... ha ha... just teasing... sorta... If you bring my stuff and I am not there, which I won't be, because I am going on vacation this weekend, just leave it with Legends... I'm sure they will hold it for me for the week.... then I will settle up with you the next time we see each other... turn the tables on you... ha ha

At this point, the game was so epic that I didn't even care who won, though it is nice to see the eldar take a victory. Either way a great game and it came right down to the wire so I'm happy either way.
Yeah with the way i read the rule it doesn't seem to limit how many d6 you roll per model, just that you roll 1 for each. But if the consensus is that it's 1d6 per wounded model than I'll go along with it, probably just the way my mind interprets the rule that is kind of messed up.

I'm probably going to go the Fantasy one for sure (and it will be good prep for Warmaster's in March) but the double force org chart of 2000pts 40k is turning me off a little. Don't want to pay $50 and roll up versus some guard guy with like 3 Manticores and 6 Russes p

Toronto WH40K @ 2013/01/07 21:51:08

Post by: skycapt44

Doesn't appear to be a doubles 2000pts game. Says singles 2000pts. Biggest problem is having a 2000pt army painted up. I think I will go to this tourney if I can get some painting done. Only army close to 2000pts painted is orks or nids so either way going hoard.

Any one else thinking? I like the Legends crew so I hope a lot of you guys decide to do this.

Let me know.

Hi there,

My friend informed me that he posted my tournament on this thread and I thought it best i answer some of the questions that seem to be popping up.

website: http://theklash.webs.com/, has been updated (rules will be posted soon)

1) painting. You do not need a fully painted army. HOWEVER considering best overall and best painted army incorporate this score it limits what you can win at Klash
2) Price, the entirety of the proceeds go to paying off expenses and making a Klash a memorable experience (in other words I'm not in this for the money nor am I making any). If you check the website, Klash has commissioned custom made table tops and terrain with more to come.
3) the theme. Klash is different from other tournament because they impose a lot of rules (for good reasons, as I frequent many of them myself). So instead of another tournament with a lot of balancing rules Klash is the opposite and wants you to have an epic game. Bring your best and go nuts. Bring your forge world, your heroes, your monstrous arcana and all those goodies you have always been denied and go ape!

if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at dannya@gurizzan.com and i can even email you a copy of the rules if you are interested. I'll answer every and all questions!

I'm also happy there will be Orks as nothing say epic karnage like a massive Waagh!!!! Actually i like Orks because no matter how well planned out an army or strategy is, the Ork factor seems to always throw that out the window.

They aren't fun, they are bad, very bad, so bad you should never think about them again, not to mention never use them in a game.

Had a couple great games tonight against skycapt44 tonight, including a great bit of speed hammer .

Anyone looking for games this sunday?

I think that my brother and I will be there on Sunday, with a number of other people, some new to the game, others just new to 6th.

Great games the other night. Even though they weren't close the speed hammer was madness. Glad I stayed the extra time...wasn't too late either. Made it down down in under 30 minutes.
No rush on my storm talon.

I too plan to do the klash tourny. Rythem, if I don't see you by then and you choose to go to the Klash you can bring it then.
Thanks

Hi,

I recently just got back into 40k after a very long break. It's been over 5 years.

I am nearly finished painting/ converting an Imperial Fists army of about 1500 points.

I can currently field about 1000 points and would like to find a game group that is open and friendly.

Mostly I've ran into trouble getting a game in.at the local game-store, and I rather not have to fight for table time.

I'm in my late 20's and a little shy at first, but after I get to know people I'm a chatter box.

I live in Toronto's city core, but I don't drive. So I'm looking for games in the city.

I tend to have Sundays off.

Looking to play for fun, and I enjoy story driven games/campaigns with fluff and background.

Thanks again.

Just a heads up that Legends table top gaming area will be shut down for most of Saturday Jan. 19th and Sunday Jan. 20th due to our Magic GPT Quebec Tournament.
The tables will be up and running on following Tuesday.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Welcome back into the gaming scene, Toronto has a lot of places that you can game at though not having transportation might limit your options a bit. Depending on where in the core of Toronto you live could also narrow your options, Heavy Support Games is in the west end, Meeplemart is in the East end, Legends Warehouse is North Toronto in Vaughn. There are also a couple other stores in and around the downtown though I've never been to any of them so can't offer any real information. I know personally that Legends has a good gaming group that is pretty active, sadly I don't have a lot of knowledge about Meeplemarts group since it's out of my driving range, and HSG has weird hours to try and get a game in for me.

A lot this info really depends on how far you are willing to travel for a game, and what times are best for you to game at, once you have those 2 things nailed down posting in this forum usually turns up results for finding a game.

Hopefully this helped and good luck .

With this in mind does anyone want to try and get some games in on either thursday (11-6 ish) or friday (11-8ish) at legends?

Hey,

just wanted to give a shout that I've uploaded into the Gallery (search "Klash") a few of the custom table tops that I commissioned for Klash. The artist who did them is extremely talented and did each table from scratch and has exceeded all my expectations thus far. Just imagine your armies waging war on those epic table tops! It will make for some excellent photos!

Welcome!

Meeplemart is good, they have a core group of guys that frequently show up. There are in the middle of a league campaign right now, but you can usually find a few pick up games there.

Ther is also Friendly Troll inbetween North York Center and Finch TTC stations, I'm always up for a game there, just let me know a time!

Finally there is GW Yonge and Lawrence, I haven't been there but a few people in thie thread have played there a few times.

Just post up when and where you are looking for a game and you'll usually get a response.

I would be up for it, but if you look at their website calendar, it says they are doing the same release so I don't know if they would have any tables free either.

I've only got a 1.5k necron army, but meeting up tomorrow would be great, if we can find a spot that isn't doing a magic prerelease.

A friend of mine works at Red Nails 2 on Sundays. The only problem is that its quite small and its not a tabletop hobby store - we would need to bring our own mats or tables, so its probably out of the question.

No worries. I appreciate the painting that you completed for me, and I appreciate the 'free' cleaning and assembly.

Hope to see you and gang at Legends again very soon. I have to relearn all of the stupid rules... which really sucks.

I will be bringing my Dark Eldar. Let me know.

I should be available this Friday for games at legends, I won't know for sure until the end of today though so I will repost tonight if anything changes. What point level were you thinking? Also i would suggest if we are doing intro games to 6th that you build lists with as many different units as you can so you can get a broad idea of what everything does, and what you think works best for you.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ugh again, does that mean all the tables will be used on Friday? DEE and I were looking to game around 4pm, but I'd rather not drive out there if there is no point. I'm sure we would be happy to move one of the table tops into one of the secluded rooms if that helps at all.

Yeah... I'm not sure if DXM is politely saying 'you can't play here on Friday', or if it is a polite caution only, regarding how 'busy' it will be, but NOT precluding us from playing if we should still desire to do so... DXM please clarify. Also, please clarify if Sunday would be okay to play, in the event that we are not permitted to play on Friday.

Any Toronto Nid players have a set of Fleshborer Hives from the Tyranofex kit they're willing to part with for other minis or cash?

I might have that.... Not sure. I have a tyrronofex without the larva sac belly.... So I assume I still have the sac in the sprue. Is that what you need? Let me know. If yes, I will find it and its yours.

He's looking for a set of the arm weapons, the fleshborer hive is the 20 shot gun the tyrano comes with, it's an L shaped arm that has a broad flat side on it, that the weapon with a lot of holes/divots fits on top of.

Yeah, I'll post friday night to let you know, there is a good chance I'll be able to do both since last weekend I had to meet her parents and do family crap on her side, all about the balance

The only 'bad' thing about them is that they sell at GW prices, from what I know. I know they have a relatively elitist MTG community, and at the place I play MTG at I've heard that most people there are PTQ grinders. But I've been there a few times and they've seemed nice.

Apparently there was a sewage leak from the ceiling above and cockroaches when the lights were turned on first thing.

The major issue I had was the dinginess of the basement gaming area. I can game in a dingy basement whenever, I go to a store to play in a nice open space.

Note this was about a year ago, they may very well have cleaned the place up since.

No no, I didn't quit the hobby or the game... I just bought my first house!!

I get possession on March 11th.

Ha ha "going to a good home" Tee hee hee

It has a nice bedroom in the basement that Im going to make it my games room. There is enough space for a game table and my painting area.

My only problem is ventilation. There is no windows in that room. I might have to do the air brushing in the garage or laundry room.

But until then its all packed up and no updates for a while. but I will still be lurking.

Ha ha ha ha Well played sir!

Congrats on buying the home, Welcome to a lifetime of debt

No windows in the basement? A simple fan and a vent would be enough for most air-brushing (depends on hold long you do it for, but a good vent hood should be enough)

Hi guys, I'm a returning player getting back into things after a hiatus of many years out of the hobby. I've played a couple games against friends using an odd mashup of 3rd/5th edition rules, and now I'm looking to face people/armies from outside my immediate social circle. I've got about 1000 points of Imperial Guard, and 1250 points worth of Space Marines. Generally I've just been fielding them all at once in 1-2k point games. If anyone is interested in a game, I'm usually free weekday evenings and weekend afternoons. I live out in Etobicoke, but I've got a car so I can drive around withing reason. I'm actually within (long) walking distance of Heavy Support Games, so if anyone wants to play there, that's convenient for me, though I've got no idea whatsoever what their policies/playing environment are like.

Also, on a somewhat related note, can any fellow Toronto players recommend a good bricks and mortar store to buy things like paints, glue, etc... And does anyone know of a good Canadian site to order models from Wargames Factory so I can avoid any customs related hassles?

Welcome back to the hobby and to the forums. I used to play at Heavy Support Games (HSG), but I find they don't have a lot of space, and what space they have seems to go to mtg players. HSG is good for buying most items though since they do a 20% discount on most items they carry. If you are willing to drive, a group of us on this forums plays at Legends Warehouse, which I believe is about a 20 min drive from your area. They have a large gaming space dedicated for 40k/table top games, and have good hours for gaming as well, being open 11-9 most days. As for beginner games i'm always happy to do intro games, though I do prefer to play 1500pt + lists since I built my armies that way, I have no problem with you combining your armies to hit point levels though. Sadly i'm not usually available to game most late afternoon/evenings during the week except for maybe Fridays because of work or GF time. Fridays-Sundays I can usually fit 1 day of gaming in with enough advance notice and planning. I'm sure if our schedules don't line up that someone on the forums will, Toronto has a pretty large and active gaming crowd so don't get discouraged .

**When you say you guys play a combination of 3rd/5th editions does that mean you are hoping other players will also do this? Not complaining just saying that unless you are looking for 6th edition you may run into troubles finding people who still remember/play either 3rd or 5th edition rules exclusively.**

I can multi-task! He was playing DE anyways I had to wait 20 mins just for him to finish his shooting phase!

The game went like this:

His turn:
20 mins movement, 20 mins shooting
Me: 1 min of rolling saves

My Turn:
2 mins of movement

Repeat for 6 turns

Lansdowne/Bloor is fine, I can get there no problem. It's a just slight detour from my route home after work, so If you ever wanted to play there on a weeknight, that would be great.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Cool, Im free most wednesday evenings but I think they reserve for FoW that night, however I could make it to HS. I'll let you know as I'm busy for the next two weeks or so with school.

Anyone up for some games Sunday? Let me know. Legends at 11 a.m. I will be playing Dark Eldar, and I can field 1850 or 2000 points comfortably.

Nice, love that movie. I'm free this Sunday for games if no one has responded yet. Either point level is fine with me, though I wouldn't mind trying out a 2k point list I was working on.

Haha, maybe a 20 minute drive if I'm going at 3am. I don't think I could get there on a weekday, I might be able to make it up there on a weekend though.

**When you say you guys play a combination of 3rd/5th editions does that mean you are hoping other players will also do this?

lol, no. Just letting people know a bit of background info.

Ahh ok then, yeah I was talking about the weekends anyways. I've done the drive from kingsway/queensway up to Legends and it took about 20-25mins with regular traffic. I doubt it would be pleasant during rush hour, the 427/401 are almost depressing during rush hour.

Hey Optimus, you said you were ordering Battlefoam stuff, and I am just curious how much your bag cost you.

I don't have a bag right now so Im planning to get something to fit all my Dark Eldar stuff and Necron stuff...

Should I get the custom foam or pluck foam?
Like which one holds more?

Any good recommendations?

I spent just under $300 with shipping for my stuff but I got the 720 full of pluck foam plus the Space m=Marine Foam for the 430.

There are 3 types of foam you can get:

Pluck foam- You pick it out yourself and make the sapes you want. Great for custom models that won't fit in regular shapes. I used this for 2 Stormravens, because in BF the don't want the models touching, I was ok with a small part of the models touching so I made my own.

Pre-cut foam- IMHO the best option. They ahve alot of pre cut foam for all the armies. You can find it on their website and just go throught them all. This is what I mostly used and I think it's the best deal $$$-wise

Custom-Cut foam- You use the tray creator on their website and you can set up the foam loadout yourself. They are ususall $3-$5 morwe a tray than the pre-cut stuff, but you can get the exact load out you want. I'm lazy so I didn't want to sit down and do it this way.

As for which holds more- It depends on if you want space between all out models or are fine with throwing them all in together.

Here's a link to the DE foam: http://us.battlefoam.com/categories/Battle-Foam-Trays-%2815.5-x-12%29/Warhammer-40K/Dark-Eldar/

Necron foam: http://us.battlefoam.com/categories/Battle-Foam-Trays-%2815.5-x-12%29/Warhammer-40K/Necron/

The load out for the bag:
Standard-Means it's filled with generic foam cut outs
Custom-Means it's filled with your custom cut foam

Hope that helps

So there's no way to get a combination of them?

I am thinking of getting the 1520 since I have quite a bit of stuff...

For the custom cut foam they allow you to enter some standard tray foams, is that where I enter the precut ones maybe?

Well, I think pluck foam is better overall for space since one Monolith tray is like 6" tall...

but the thing is I don't really want to pluck everything for the infantry, so I guess it comes down back to if it is possible to have a bit of both...?

Makutsu: I have pluck foam cases for my Dark Eldar army, and I actually liked being able to format the slots to the particular needs of my army. With our troops and vehicles, depending on if the gun is pointing up or outward, etc, the need to be able to customize is very important. It's a bit of a hassle to pull out all the stuff, but then you have it for added protection to fill spaces, etc. Anyway, I'm sure Optimus will get you straightened away. Otherwise, just ask the guys at Legends the next time you are in playing. They always have fair prices.

You can buy the trays in individuals, packages or with the bags.

If you do want a good look at it go take a look at meeplemart. I'm not sure on his prices so i can't comment on the BF stuff, but he usually does have very good prices for everything else.

I won't be doing an order super soon, but once I get my bike army sorted I will be. Yes I get a discount with them, but I do pay for shipping, so dependingon what you want Meeeple mart may be a better option.

Plus it's always good to support a local LGS!

Yes, it was a great game... the tables seemed to turn by about round 4; the eldar partnership began to crumble and Vect decided to hold the Dais of Destruction back, out of harm's way, finding joy in the carnage that unfolded in the front lines.

True. I'm sure he'll be back.
All I know is the very last thing to happen was my Chaos lord finally killed something (even though he was locked in combat with that damned Seer council from the top of turn two all the way to the bottom of turn 5) and became a daemon prince. Then a 2 was rolled and the eldar fled the field. Leaving the Chaos marines holding the relic. Slaneesh will be pleased.

lol, yeah was a great game, I love those big point games, especially when it's 2v2. Sadly DEE got to see what happens with eldar, which is the longer the game goes the worse they perform, we tend to do a good chunk of our damage on the first couple turns. Plus my hq never died so as far as i'm concerned your captain was still going to die to my bikeseer. You have to rememeber the eldar know the future, that entire fight was part of the plan . I'm thinking about heading down to HSG this week to see what "new" used mini's they have picked up since I was there last, would be nice to get a couple new things to expand what I can field.

True Rythem, but would your bikeseer really want to tango with a demon prince?

Also, apperantly I didn't end up with the relic. Fateweaver failed that leadership test "on purpose" to vanish with it. My brother an I have started a narrative from that game. The demons decented on an imperial moon to perform some sort of ritual and were wiped (I managed to make a platoon list with every single model I own, the odd man out was Marbo and in an insane game the demons were tabled on turn 6 with the imperials holding every objective and point except for first blood. At the end of demon turn six it was 5-0, and looking like a draw at best, but in an all or nothing 5 squad assault on Fateweever fortune favoured the bold, ending the IG turn six it was 1-11. Insane.). The next game has the imperials passing off the relic to a company of ultra marines for safe keeping, while the Chaos marines are on their way to take it for good.

Got the following that I kinda looked at:
C'tan difficult terrain
Scarab Farm
Solar Pulses Doomsday arks
Silver Tide
Wraith + something
Barges?

Honestly I have no idea how to play, and if you think which ones you don't particularly want to play against then I won't field it.
