I saw this in the rules
III. If a Unit is comprised of multi-wound figures, then where possible wounds must be
assigned to figures which have already been damaged before figures which are
unhurt.
Are special characters exempt from this rule? because of this i would never shift wounds to my special character even if he had some kind of heal rule, because of this my special character must take the wounds. (again something that happened in the beast of war video)

The Breaching Team looks awesome! Can't wait to figure out how I"m going to paint them.
Joel, I've been meaning to ask, will we be able to add-on during the pledge manager? I'd like to put more in, but at the moment I can't. I'd love to add on for more Wardrones and support Tracers later on, if possible.

The Assault Specialists are awesome! I may have to up my pledge to get 2 units.... Really liking those sculpts, full of character, and the intent is obvious too. They really look like they are intended for brutal CQB combat. Also like the level of redundancy in the unit too- they have 3 different breaching tools if necessary, and one of them doesn't run out of ammo

Morning Everyone!
@Gasmask Nook - Im sorry if it wasnt clear - but we dont intend to charge anything for the basic rules as a PDF download.
All the rules, stats and missions will be freely available, so people can try out the game before they invest in the miniatures.
We will be releasing a printed rules/background book in the future which will obviously have to cost money.
@Jehan - Most characters will only have 1 wound anyway, but you are right that does need to be clarified, I will probably alter it so Characters are immune to that rule.
@Barzam - Thanks, and absolutely yes you will be able to grab more add-ons at KS prices after the project ends, assuming it funds.
@Tremble - Thanks very much, I like exceeding peoples expectations.
@Haigus - dont forget about their steel-capped boots.. that's a 4th breaching tool right there :p

Here is the Kickstarter Exclusive Miniature - Ellenor Renard, as painted by Dwartist -

Liking the new Pulse. The arm thing is funky, but kind of cool. I'm hoping we'll see a four armed one at some point (preferably with those extra arms being gun arms).
Regarding the desire for input, I have a couple suggestions. First would he to raise the launchers a bit higher onto his back. As they are, they can only fire directly up. In a heavily urban environment, that may not be the best thing to do. If they are higher, they'd have room to angle forward as well as upwards, giving the missiles a greater arc of fire.
the second suggestion, maybe provide some stabilizer legs that can fold out of the backpack? Or an alternate anti-tank cannon variant wih the fold out stabilizers.
Edit - A thought occurred to me. Consider having an alternative top to the missile launchers that has the missiles covered with a retractable hatch. Seeing as the Fire Support Pulse suit still carries a rail gun and an SMG, there's clearly an expectation that this guy would wind up getting shot at. Having the missile's tops exposed like that in the middle of a firefight with likely armor piercing rounds and whatnot going around, there's a good likelihood of those things getting hit. Having them covered during transportation would make a lot of sense. Having closed and open launchers can also provide the owner with some customization potential as well.

Post by: Anvils Hammer
@Mlaw and Ritides - Yep its looking like it will go down to the wire, I'm hopeful it will fund but cant get complacent.
@Barzam - Thanks for the feedback. Im going to rework this one, including more movable missile pods, and probably a triangle design with 3 missiles.
The missile pods will be separate, so in theory could make other weapons for the same base model- shoulder mounted cannons for example.
I would image the tops of the missiles contain mostly sensors/targetters. while the explosive charge is entirely contained within the launcher for protection.
The railgun and SMG are just back up weapons really, as once all the missiles are gone I imagine the pilot would jettison the launchers and continue fighting as a regular Pulse Mech..

Evening all,
Very nice Dwartist!
Some more updates from the KS attached.
The two pulse mechs are included with all Pledges "Shard Strike" (£100) or higher. The APC is included in the CATACLYSM pledge, and may be available to other backers at a KS price, if we are able to manufacture it how I am hoping to.

Apologies if this has already been asked/answered...
1) If we pledge £1 now, will we be able to increase it later via a Pledge Manager?
2) If yes, will all the minis be available for purchase, including 'exclusives'?
3) If yes, will be be able to select a higher pledge level in the Pledge Manager?
I am seriously tempted!

Update #17: CQB Pattern Goliath Preview! ( WIP)

Evening Backers,
I've been working on this brutal machine all day, still need to refine the weapons and repose it to be leaning into an aggressive forward stride/run. Feedback very welcome!
CQB Modifications -
Extra armour on the rear power plant.
Fully enclosed and sealed "turret" style helmet - no weak points.
Forward facing fragmentation mines.(also going to put these on the outside of its hips)
6 barrelled "Hellstorm" Grenade Launcher
Thermal Lance (Basically a giant cutting lance - see the fuel rods and gas tank on the back) with integrated demolition hammer.
Dont let it get close!
FREE with cataclysm, otherwise £12 Add-On.
The weapons and head from this Goliath will be fully swappable with the existing Goliath.
Ill post up the finished version tommorow!
Thanks
Joel

Morning everyone,
2 and a half days to go and we need a boost of another £5k or so, really hoping we can do this!
@Jehan - Thanks, nice robocop there... I think the Wardrones have slightly better programming than that!
The Goliath does look a bit like a Killer Kan - only so many ways to put a humanoid figure in an armoured box!
I am going to be adjusting the head covering to be slightly squarer profiled which will modernise the design a bit.
@AAN - Quite a few of the Republic Radoni Corp units are based on modifed industrial designs, in this case I imagine it was some kind of drilling/mining/cargo lifting rig which they have weaponised.
@Vertrucio -
Yeah its a .Blend > .OBJ imported straight into Zbrush, it does funny things sometimes.

@Alpharius-
Im sorry I did answer your question above but addressed the answer to RiTides, I dont know why. -
Yes you will be able to add any amount post KS, and upgrade to any pledge level, including access to the exclusive mini if eligible.
BUT- that's only if we fund, and at the moment that's far from guaranteed, so anything you are able to pledge before the end is helpful in getting us over the line!
----------------
A really awesome offer for anyone pledging over £100 -
Your chance to WIN one of five miniatures painted by Dwartist!
You seen Dwartists paint work on our miniatures above in this thread.
Yesterday he made a very special "money cant buy it" offer to help get this KS project funded.
After the KS ends, all backers who have pledged £100 or more will be entered into a draw to win one of five chances to have a miniature from their pledge painted by Dwartist!
At the moment, that means pledgers over £100 have a 1 in 28 chance of winning this amazing prize, which is pretty great odds!

From the last update:
Paypal Pledges and Add-Ons-
We will be setting up some Paypal pledge options on our website for anyone who for whatever reason was not able to pledge during the KS itself, and Paypal pledges will count toward that £42K stretch goal which is £100 away at the moment.
We will also be using Paypal/credit card to allow anyone who wants to upgrade, change or Add to their pledge ammount at any time between now and when we ship the figures, so if you see some photos of a Unit in resin and think "I need more of that" it wont be a problem, and we will honour the KS prices between now and shipping rewards.
So right now is still not really too late. But you'll want to keep an eye on the Kickstarter for updates since
Survey/Pledge Manager -
At the moment, we dont know what a lot of you want, so we will be sending out a survey of some kind to find out, and give you a chance to add/amend your pledge, or let us know about any swaps you want.
We haven't decided exactly how to do the Pledge manager yet, so we are not sure exactly when we will send it out.
I also want to try and get ALL Units and figures totally finished in CAD before we send the pledge manager, so that you can see what all the Units look like when picking Add-Ons.

Probably. Only specifics mentioned so far is Monday:
We are taking a few days break to recover and plan out the next few months. and starting next Monday 3rd we will be gearing up the Anvil war machine to complete and produce over 14,000 high quality resin miniatures!
I'm not sure when they'll want to lock down specifics by, though. It's resin, but they're 3D sculpts (and thus 3D prints), with a target delivery date in February.

@Plastic trees - you will be able to pledge as much more as you like when we get to the pledge manager stage.
@Lord Blackfang - thanks very much!
@Jehan -Yes we are hoping to offer a few different faction starter sets.
@Jimsolo - You will be able to "pledge" through paypal, and I will announce details in this thread as well as on facebook and the KS page. Stretch goals will be included in the paypal pledges on the same basis as the KS pledges.
I would expect we will put out a firm update with all the details some time next week, when we have worked out the best way to run everything.

It's just attack stat+d10, roll over target defense stat. It's old and generic and feels out of place in an otherwise very progressive system.

The question is, though, what other way could it be done that is actually an improvement rather than just different for the sake of it? I think it's simple, effective, and while a lot of games use similar mechanics, there's a reason for that: It works.

Post by: Anvils Hammer
Hey all,
@Dwartist - Looking fantastic! cool to see a totally different take on the Wardrone Miniatures compared to your first!
@Alpharius - Yep rules here if you haven't found them already -
http://www.afterlifevolumes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/AFTERLIFE-Game-Rules-KS-Release.pdf
@Lord Blackfang - I would say "simple" rather than boring. We did a lot of work in play testing to establish the minimum level of complexity with dice rolling which would still allow lots of statistical variation, and using a D10 combined with both an attacked and defender stat gives us the widest possible range of outcomes with a single roll.
Keeping the number of rolls down means that combat resolution is very fast, particularly once a player has memorised the Unit stats through playing the game several times. This speed in the resolution combined with the alternating Activations gives the game a sense of urgency, which is important for creating the realism of a fast moving urban battle.
Its probably not the most exciting way to roll dice (and by no means the only way to do it), but it means we can focus the detail in the game on other areas such as combined tactics and unit movements.
Just my thoughts on the subject of game design!
@Coldwill - thanks I am glad you like the products! and Yes if you want to pledge for any of the new miniatures we will have a paypal option available soon, with details to follow.
@Solkan - I am glad you like the miniatures, we certainly wanted to treat female figures in our game differently from how other companies tend to, so you will see many more tough, properly clothed and equipped female soldiers!
@RiTides - I have just checked and our "chainsaw bayonets" should work well attached under the arms. To attach a bolter barrel you would need to cut off the whole front of the arm guns to make a shorter weapon with a wide enough space. (The part painted black on dwartists "police" Wardrone.

The cannon type looks pretty much exactly how I was envisioning it. Will he have fold out support legs, or will his exo suit be able to withstand the recoil?

Morning all,
Thanks very much!
@Haigus - No indirect fire for the Auto-Howitzers, its just a naming convention I like the sound off, I might rename it in the full Rules to avoid confusion.
The missiles will have indirect fire capability, but any indirect ballistic trajectory weapon would have to be fired from off board I think!
@Barzam - I will be addressing the recoil issue today with some lower leg stabilisers/ground clamps and also adjusting the poses to be more forward leaning.
I would imagine they also have some decent recoil compensators built into the weapons!
Jehan - The missiles are adjustable and can be rotated from vertical to horizontal as well as moved up and down in a "rail" system.

Post by: Haighus
Ah ok, makes sense. It is a cool word The adjustable weapons rails sound awesome! As regards stabilisers, this mech gives me the impression that even the fire support version can forego shooting for some rapid redeployment, so I feel like ground clamps and extra leg supports would be out of place, and the braced pose should be more than sufficient. Maybe more chunky legs and some sort of extra stabiliser gyros or something (not sure how you would show this in model form though?) would be better than just clamps. Basically, I personally feel like clamps are too static for the model. Also, for indirect ballistic weapons, are light infantry mortars a possibility in the future? Most such weapons would be well of the board, like you said, but I can see mortars being within the realms of possibility. Might not work so well within the urban environments the game is aimed at, but maybe some kind of modern mech-mounted version with GPS-guided shells for example? Would essentially be a high-angle grenade launcher I guess. This is just floating ideas in the air though. Doesn't fit into the Shards of Liberty spec ops theme very well, as it would something I'd imagine more with line troops, like the Marines and Grenadiers.

You know what Joel - I think your priority should be getting these pulse mech support guy's heads out as bits. Then do all the kickstarter later
1975
Post by: Anvils Hammer
Hey,
@Haigus - Im going to do a bit more work on the lower legs of the support pulse mechs, a bit of extra bulk is certainly needed, for extra support if nothing else - those gun systems would be heavy!
Yes there will be light infantry support weapons including mortars at some point - though a lot "smarter" than the ones we use today in most cases.
The game is currently geared toward smaller skirmish type games on perhaps a 4X4 table, but larger games will feature in future, with heavier weaponry for both sides!
@Manus - It will likely appear as a "bits" component at some point in the future, once we have our 3D printer up and running!

Hey everyone,
The Pledge Manager site is live -
http://www.afterlifevolumes.com/pledgemanager/
Its based on our main retail store but is totally separate.
To use it you will need to set up a new account, then add whichever rewards and Add-Ons you want to your cart and check out with Paypal.
We will be keeping the pledge manager open at least until Christmas I would imagine, then we will need to shut it down so we can finalised our production plan for shipping starting next February or possibly sooner.
Any questions about the Pledge Manager you can email us - info@anvilindustry.co.uk - or reply on here.

I wish I could single order a tractor with 2-3 weapons for magnetizing. I absolutely fell in love with Anvil Industries stuff when the thread started here on Dakka.
I want to get one for a conversion and maybe get a weapon or two along with it for my Rhinos. Sadly, they're only offered in groups of five. I'll probably put up a thing in the Dakka Swapshop to buy one.
Oh and I finally got to handle my small bit order. I would have posted an image sooner but, medical stuff and whatnot.
Edit: Here are the Spartan Headcrests. Really happy with them, little to no greenstuffing to modify them.

Well, I went and did my pledge manager. I had to cut down the extras I wanted to throw in, so for now, no Tracers or extra CRANE-bots.
Joel, were the Pulse Mech flight packs supposed to be included with any of the pledge levels, or where they paid add-ons only? And are they going to have an effect in-game, or are they purely cosmetic?
I'm also curious how close we are to unlocking the bodyguard for Yoshida.

Morning all,
@Jehan -thanks for posting that up! Our new Spectre Team, I intended to post them up here but didnt quite get to it!
@Stormwall - email us - info@anvilindustry.co.uk
We dont sell the tractors separately normally, but we are happy to make special arrangements where possible, I have spares of most things on my modelling desk
The crests look great!
@Barzam - Pulse Mech flight packs are paid Add-on only. They will certainly have an in game effect!! Flight equipped Pulse Mechs can jump off the back of a gunship as it does a low enough flyby..
Bodyguard is unlocked and is happening, I will post an update later in the week.

Hi Everyone,
We have been busy the last couple of weeks with some major upgrades to our manufacturing room, and a general organise/sort out, to get ready for full scale Kickstarter production starting in December.
This means I've not had a chance to do much work on the KS stuff, hence the Radio Silence.
I am hoping to have an update up next week some time.
--------------------------------
In the meantime, This Friday November 28th is Black Friday for our American customers, so we've decided to hold a one day only "BLACK OPS FRIDAY" Sale - The sale will offer 30% off Black Ops Kits, meaning you can get your hands on some incredibly high detail resin miniature kits for a huge discount.
The BLACK OPS FRIDAY sale will run from 12 Midnight on the 27th until 8am on the 29th - covering all of Friday in all UK and US timezones.
Check out the Black Ops product range HERE
Thanks

I had been led to believe the guy from Zealot was doing your 3d printing.. did you guys go ahead and get your own printer to do that stuff in house?
It looks like the print had a lot of air bubbles.. hope you get that sorted.. I'm sure it won't be a problem though
I'm currently waiting for a shipment of gunses from Anvil so it had me wanting to look in here

Post by: Vertrucio
That's probably an in house, enthusiast grade printer.
Sending models to be printed is expensive and time consuming. Sometimes you just need a print that's not high quality, so you can see if the pose, size, and design looks good in hand or on the table.

Post by: Treadheadz
Anvil Industri recently invested in a 3D printer - So that they may print and produce masters in-house.
I think its a solid investment, as I can see the company expanding their portfolio, not just with the Afterlife range, but also other addon bits for various known tabletop games.
1975
Post by: Anvils Hammer
Morning all,
@Jehan - Thanks for posting that up for me, I have been neglecting Dakka somewhat recently while there has been rather less to show off!
@Mlaw - the original plan was to have Eddie from Zealot, and a few other printing bureaus to produce the miniature for us, But we have now got our own machine in house.
Having our machine will cut costs over the long term, but in the short term the main benefit is reduced lead times and far more control over the prints.
If I make a mistake with a sculpt and need to correct it with a second print, its going to cost £25+ and a weeks waiting with a printing company, versus about £1 and under a day to print the part ourselves.
@Vertrucio - We are intending to produce our own masters in hosue also, the printer we are using can print at 25 micron resolution, 1/40th of a mm, which with careful calibrating, is good enough quality for miniatures.
We are still testing the machine (hence we are quiet lately) but once it is fully up and running I will be able to post much more regular updates!

We have finished the 3D printing for the Crane Wardrones, one of the most popular figures from our KS.
The final versions here are much crisper and better detailed than the Wardrone prototypes we originally showed off during the project! Im really pleased with how they have turned out!
The kit is two separate bodies plus the "rubble sprue" parts, two separate heads and 4 unique arms, interchangeable and poseable.
I am hoping to have more stuff in production by the end of next week!

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for all the great feedback!
@aka_mythos - Yep I try my best, and it is great to look back and see my progress as a designer and sculptor, though it can be frustrating, always wanting to go back and "redo" older stuff.
@Thraxas - We are working as fast as we can, though its looking like it might be a while longer than planned. We need to ship all backer rewards before we can make anything available on the website!
@Deadairis - Excellent plan, If you can raise us a few hundred thousand dollars I will make a resin figure of you, with battle gear of your choice
@Taarnak - The prints so far have been done on a Titan 1 from Kudo3D, and we have also purchased a B9 Creator, so will be running two different printers soon, to try and speed things up a bit!
UPDATE - Spectre Operatives
The Spectre Operative print I previewed last week is now completed and in resin, and joined by the rest of his Team!
This is the first full unit of figures we have completed and I am really pleased with how they have turned out.
The Kit includes 4x lower bodies, 4x upper bodies and 6x helmets, including two with open visors.
Also included on the sprue is a full weapons set (Rifle, pistol, Mags and Grenades) for conversions, and lots of detailed "rubble bits" which are great for basing figures.
Some close ups -

Post by: Kanluwen
The models look nice, but is there some kind of lore reason for all the hexes on their body armor?
1975
Post by: Anvils Hammer
@RiTides - Thanks, printing with our own machines is a real pain, but yes we are getting excellent quality, and will continue not to compromise on that!
Regarding the War Drones, we have the Pose A pack. If you pledged for 6 and nothing else, we can ship 3x Pose A tommorow, but you will probably want to wait for Pose B pack, which will have two new leg/body poses, and a commander upgrade head and arm. Those will take a little longer, but will ship ahead of a lot of the main reward waves.
@Kanluwen - In terms of weapons and equipment, my design philosophy is usually "what looks coolest" swiftly followed by "would this work in real life and does it make sense".
So with the Hexagons, I wanted to do it to create a unit with a different and more unique "look" but from a background perspective, I imagine the armour is made up of lots of different plates so that its very flexible and forms to the users body.
These are stealth infantry, so I imagine each plate also incorporates stealth features which help to fool electronic surveillance. If one hexagon panel is damaged, the integrity of the rest of the armour isnt affected.
Cheers

Thanks! Yeah that was another of the inspirations for the design - vehicle reactive armour, but I'm not sure anyone would put explosive panels on infantry, might make getting hit a bit of a shock!
I would hope to make some Spectre vehicles with a similar pattern of proper reactive armour, though it will be a while before I can get round to that!
@ Frankenberry - Thanks very much! and no problem, We will try and have them for sale as soon as possible.

Hi,
Yes we will be there and we are really looking forward to it!
The focus this year will mostly be on promoting AFTERLIFE, so we will be running demo games opposite the stand. This means we WONT have the entire product range, specifically, we are not bringing all the "bits" products this year, but we will give people the option of a "Salute pick up" order on the website.
Further details about the games, products and any deals will be made available nearer the time.

I can point to a dozen random scifi things with the same legs, created before and after the dread knight released.
The Spectre Operatives, for example, are similar to human infantry in my game. But, that's because we're pulling from the same design sources in parallel development.

Humm.. not seeing it really.. perhaps "vaugly similar" but only to the extent they are both robot legs.
There are design elements in common, but only because any mechanical leg needs certain elements in order to look functional. For example multiple mechanical toes are needed to spread weight and provide grip on uneven terrain, a knee pad is always required to protect the joint.
Both models use a "triple joint" design, but this is copied from nature - many animals have the same arrangement of bones.
Both models feature an armour plate on top of the foot above the ankle joint, but again, it serves the same "real world" protective function on both models.
Of course I (along with all other designers ever) draw inspiration from a huge catalogue of existing science fiction work, and also lots of real world sources, there is very rarely anything truly original, but I certainly try my best to create cool new concepts, and hope to inspire other designers in the future!

Infinity TAGs, Armored Cores, etc all remind me of Mecha from various Animes. You probably are only pulling similarities because that is what you are used to playing with, so in that aspect that they are mecha-type then they are similar but not in shape or form. The silheoutte of them are different. I'm just not seeing the similarity other than a 3-toe foot which has been used quite often.

Up to my neck? I'm fully submerged in Kickstarter stuff and struggling to the surface for air/sleep every so often!
There are quite a few parts which could be usefully released as bits components at some point, its just a question of finding the time though, many smaller bits products are not that profitable so can only be justified if we are at a loose end, which for the foreseeable future isn't going to be the case!
@Snrub - Thanks very much! I am hoping to paint up a squad of spectres myself soon, they are some of my favourite models from the range, if I am allowed to have favourites.
@Dark Severance, if you look closely, the Drones actually have 5 toed feed, two at the front, one on each side and one larger one at the back, perhaps more like a hoof than a foot.

@Azazelx - Cheers - I pretty much agree, I constantly strive to improve both the design and production quality of our output. As Haigus kindly answered for me - all the stuff we are previewing at the moment is for fulfilment of last years KS project, and will be available in the retail store in stages over the coming year, though at this stage I cant give much more information than that! Glad you are liking the minis

The current prices for the new bases will remain in place until at least the show. (though we don't plan to raise them all that much, depends on sales)
We may do some "combi-deals" for the AFTERLIFE game blisters, but we have not decided anything for definite yet, We will announce any deals a few weeks before the show.
@Jehan Reznor- A bit Macabre, but yes actually I had thought of that, its on the "fit in when I have some spare design time" list. I wouldnt put them on sprues, but would do a "battlefield casualties" set with half a dozen figures in various states of disintegration.

The aPad is manufactured in premium titanium and glass and contains a micro 8-core processor, measuring in at just 3.5mm tall, perfect for 28mm scale infantry who need to share photos of their fallen enemies with their friends in other warzones.
"I love my new aPad , it's made it so easy to hack the Unity Councils mainframe, and it's also light and stylish" - Lena Petrova, Republic hacking expert.

*ahem*
Some new previews and re-release of the Missile Launchers for the Republic faction, now supplied as two part figures for easier customisation.
Unity Council Support weapon platform and Unity Guard, both available at retail later this year.
SALUTE 2015 - Saturday April 25th
We will be at the show this year with our store front, but we are not bringing all our bits range this year, just a selection of the most popular products.
If you want to collect a selection of bits on the day, please place an order through the website and use the "collect at Salute" option on checkout, you will also need to pay for the order on the day. This means we can prepare your collection order on the day and bring it along.
AFTERLIFE DEMO GAMES -
This year we will have a huge gaming table set up and we will be running demo games all day, so you can get a chance to try out the new AFTERLIFE game!

The Picatinny rail on the Unity Guard shotguns, do those match the rails found on your other designs and therefore can your range of scopes and other accessories in the Armoury be used on them?

You contact the Apad Help On Line Employee (AHOLE) for short. They don't speak you native language, mispronounce their name, and will be extremely polite while still conveying that they could care less about your first world problem.

Different options I guess, but it does seem odd. It actually makes me much more likely to pre-order, coupled with the fact that they won't have the bits stuff otherwise. I hate having to pay for my order in advance, I'd much rather be able to pay on the day - otherwise, why bother pre-ordering to collect, especially if it's regular stock items and the postage is reasonable anyway? It's not like they're offering a pre-order discount like other vendors, who I will be having to preorder from to benefit.

The guys at Anvil are working their arses off trying to get the kickstarter models cast and packed for the backers who paid for their gear back n October. You know how small a team they are so get some perspective and quit complaining, it's not like you can't get what you want one way or another.

If you pay before the day and anvil can't make it due to transport of health issues or stuff gets lost/stolen pn the day etc then they will have to find a way to get it to you anyway so either losing out on postage or having to chase you for it or do a refund paying on the day means if anything goes wrong and there are no bits for you you just don't pay, far easier

@RJVF - Some trench coated figures might appear at some point, but they are rather boring.. both sculpt and paint, so far from a priority.
@RiTides - "They were protected by women and children, we put them down easily" has got to be one of the most horrifying deadpan lines in the move. They use shotguns based on the WA2000 sniper rifle in that scene, which I real like.
Your pose B pack of Drones are high on the priority list after Salute.
All.. Here is a render of something I've been meaning to do for a while, and found the time for last night, a character bust of a Pulse Mech, about 50mm tall, so a whole lot more detailed than the regular miniatures.
We are hoping to have a very small number of them available for sale at SALUTE at the weekend.

It wont be a limited edition item, but we will only be able to make them one at a time and get perhaps 30-40 perfect copies from each mould, so after the first batch sells out it will likely not be available again until after the KS is totally fulfilled, and KS backers will have first dibs on the first batch if they want one.

Final preparations are well under way for SALUTE on Saturday!
I just finished painting this up for our display - our first ever vehicle, the Unity Council APC.
This is a prototype, but I am hoping to start full scale production next month and it will be available at retail once all Cataclysm Kickstarter backers have got theirs.

I like it but the blinged out wheels would be replaced with that Zinge, Blood and Skull, or Victoria kit. It needs running boards and tactical rails too but thick soldering wire or plastic tube and some styrene sheet are easy enough to add. Past that..are the people inside piloting by monitor or is there a way to build the vision slits open? There's literally no way to see out right now without external sensors.

Not so much bling, but rather a reinforced framework from the look of things.

Cameras are located as Barzam spotted. Its a one peice hollow body.
Wheels are separate bits, not bling at all, they are based on these real world hummer tyres.-
No idea about release date or price at the moment.
Its most likely a bit smaller than a taurox, about 10cm long, 5cm wide. So Im not sure its suitable as a direct stand in, but we will release larger vehicles in future.

Wow, I've never seen HUMVEE tires like that. I see the similarities but it still just reads like custom rims to me.
I see the cameras now that I know to look for them. It's a cool concept but I think the vehicle looks a bit too modern and blocky for such a futuristic concept... I feel the same way about the one Antenociti's Workshop has or had. I think it might end up being a pass for me but I'm excited to see what your other vehicles are going to be like. You're chasing the hard sci-fi look at I'm all over that.

I think its that I painted them with a grey/white drybrush, rather than a brown or green. It hadnt occured to me at all that they look like fancy chrome spoked wheels until you mentioned it, but now you have I do see it. Ill paint future vehicles with neutral toned wheels, should help.
The Background of the game is that its set somewhere in the 2400's, but when the war breaks out, there has been a ban on the development of new military equipment, in place for a long time. So most factions are still fighting with weapon systems originally developed in the late 21st and early 22nd centuries.
I also just have a personal preference for realistic "near future" sci fi concepts, which are mostly still grounded in existing technology.
I appreciate all feedback on the range, and I hope you will like some of the future vehicles we have planned.

That's not a Humvee but if you google Humvee Airless Tires you'll find a bunch of pictures of similar designs. I was unfamiliar with the concept prior to this posting.
@Anvil - I understand where you're coming from on grounding the designs for the reasons you mentioned.. As long as it doesn't end up WWII in the 41st millenium I think we're ok.

IIRC the airless tire basiclly can take a hella beating before needing to be replaced. cant be shot out, punctured, all terrain and stuff like that. also has some shock resistance i think. I remember seeing it on TV a looooong time ago.

While searching I saw a lot of pictures of them flexing over irregular terrain like rocks and stuff. There were some of them throwing sand everywhere too.. not sure if the channels make them more well suited for that type of environment or if they work against it or what..but it does look like they at least function there.
It has me wanting to see Anvil's take on something like an MRAP or Bushmaster or something. I'd be keen to see a VTOL or Helicopter type vehicle from them too but I think I saw that their game system won't support things like that.. I might be mistaken though.. I have my ear to a whole bunch of near-future sci-fi games and get the streams crossed sometimes.

Hey Everyone, and thanks!
We are back from SALUTE, we had an absolute blast, and were totally shattered by the end of Saturday. I will need a few more nights sleep to get fully back to normal!
@Icesword - thanks for posting the photos up!
We were really pleased with the reception our game table got. Having put so much work in, it was really nice to be recognised with the award, which came as a total surprise!
We will get a full photo album of the game tables posted up soon.
@Alpharius and Jehan - As Orlando correctly guessed, Best Sponsored Trader Game is given to the best participation game put on by a retailer. There was another award for the participation games put on by clubs, I guess they thought it was fair to separate the two categories.
@DaHedd - I am glad you like the APC, its approx 10cm long and 5/6cm wide, so I think a bit smaller than the Taurox, but would be a suitable transport for most human infantry units.
@Mlaw - Like the APC, the Republic Instigator will have more work done on it before we print it, including some extra detailing, and I will probably make it slightly larger as well, as at the moment I agree, it is a little cramped for the passengers.
I will be doing a larger APC for the Republic also, slightly bigger than the UC one, later in the year.
Now.. back to our huge annual Post-Salute Clear Up/Sort Out/Reorganise, so we are ready to get on with the important job of fulfilling our KS ASAP!

That pulse mech looks awesome! I don't recognise the design, but that appears to be an LMG version, and I think it may just be my favourite pulse mech model, short of the character with the samurai-style additional plating.
@lone dirty dog, I don't think Joel is intending to make it much bigger, just enough so that the passengers on the back look a bit less cramped, although personally, I'm not bothered by the current passenger situation- military vehicles aren't exactly well known for being comfortable and having roomy interiors. I'm happy with it being functional and to the point, suits the Republics aesthetic more IMO.

You want to know even if it ruins the magic?
The Main track and supports are part of an IKEA shelf system. The rusted mesh parts attached to either side were cannibalised from a fridge or similar. The blue glow is achieved with EL Wire, which is cheap and easy to get online, runs off a 9v battery pack tucked inside the main Rail section at the back.
The shelf rail was left pretty much bare aluminium, the side parts were originally white, we sprayed them Matt Black, then painted dark blue metallic, then sponged on a lot of GW mithril silver, then used a rust effect liquid from modelmates.
@Dwartist - that is simply amazing! Even in WIP.. I honestly have no idea where it still needs finished. The rusting/dirt on the leg armour is fantastic!
@LDD - Dont worry, the changes will be very subtle, no more than a 5mm change in any one dimension, only minor adjustments planned.
@Haigus - thats the member of the unit with an auto grenade launcher, I will at some point get round to an entire unit with this weapon, as Im sure it will be a popular choice.
@Stormwall - they are about 35mm tall, and somewhere between a guardsman and a marine in terms of overall bulk.
62565
Post by: Haighus
I like that, nice and simple, and good use of non-wargaming bits to make a convincing piece of terrain! Which Ikea shelf?
I reckon (not having any spare fridges lying around without raiding the junkyard that is my Granddad's garden, and probably poisoning myself and the atmosphere in the process) that the metal railings along the edge would be fairly easy to replicate a similar style with using those metal corner pieces that builders use when plastering to make edge corners more sturdy and smooth. Like these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/external-render-stop-bead-10-12mm-x-2-5m-pack-of-5/95350
28415
Post by: lone dirty dog
I hope its not too noticeable as 5mm in this scale is quite a difference, but I will hold faith until I see the updated version, but I will say I did like the overall cramped aspect of it which gave it its charm.
The thing is I saw it as a light recon vehicle rather than an APC, I was going to be using mine as that also as a light attack vehicle but fingers crossed it does not get too big.
1975
Post by: Anvils Hammer
@Haigus - Yep Screwfix, Wickes and similar are great places for larger Terrain projects. The 2" thick polystyrene boards make a great starting point for most game tables as well, but usually a good idea to back them with a thin MDF sheet for more stability.
@LDD- I dont think you need to worry! the final version will be awesome
Its definitely a light recon vehicle and will stay that way.
The Republic will get a heavier vehicle later in the year.
We have completed everything we need for the SHARD RECON pledge level of our KS, which will start shipping soon.

Post by: Anvils Hammer
Morning all,
Thanks very much!
I painted the Unity Council (Except the Isiah Model). Adam devised and painted all the Yellow Republic Stuff. Its his personal army.
The conversation went something like
me - "are you sure bright yellow is a good idea? I cant imagine stealthy commandos running around in that"
Adam- "I dont care, it will look amazing".
and I cant argue with that..
The "official" colour scheme for the Republic will likely be tan/black with orange/red unit markings, but I've not got around to painting any up yet and I dont know when I will get a chance!
@Malika- We will take some individual unit photos when we get a chance and put up an album, similarly we will do a photoshoot of the terrain boards.
@Bull0 - I am taking it easy this week, from next tuesday Ill be 100% focused on completing the remaining CAD sculpts, another 15 figures or so.
Once those are done and in production, shipping time for Shard Strike will depend on how many and what type of Add-Ons people have choosen, as I will be making those Add-On units in order of popularity.
@Snrub - Everything will be available at retail later in the year, and we are also planning a "starter box" at some point, probably based around events in Volume 2, so with some new miniatures and hopefully the first printed rules booklet.

You can't argue with that logic "RULE OF COOL"
Trooper : Sir if we are stealth commandos why is are armour bright yellow ?
Commander : Don't you want to look cool when you die soldier ?
Trooper : Hell Yeah
Commander : Then don't ask stupid questions.
What's in the next Kickstarter by the way ?

Yeah thats fine with us.
So long as people pay the shipping, its reasonably easy to partially ship a pledge.
Shipping is only few pounds, but if we had offered split shipping to all, free of charge, it would add up to hundreds of pounds extra and the project is running on very tight/non existent profit margins already.

It's hard to argue with the rule of cool.
They do have a bit of a racing theme going. Which is cool. And the pulse mechs up the back with their arms outstretched do look they're making race car noises.
Anvils Hammer wrote:@Snrub - Everything will be available at retail later in the year, and we are also planning a "starter box" at some point, probably based around events in Volume 2, so with some new miniatures and hopefully the first printed rules booklet.
Groovy.
So for clarification, was the 1st KS volume 1 and SoL is volume 2 or is SoL volume 1 with volume 2 being the next instalment? In regards to the starter box, any idea on price/model count/etc?
And I just noticed you've got the Afterlife forums up and running. Nice one.

Thanks guys!
@Dwartist - Amazing! I love it.
Thanks for the photos.
@Mlas - I just had a look at the Edge of Tommorow stuff, i actually havent seen the film yet, I really should.
No plans for attachement points exactly like those, but the "support" varient Pulse Mechs will have 'behind the shouldrer' weapon mounts, so those might be suitable for conversions.
@Snrub -
The recent Shards of Liberty KS was/is Volume One.
Volume Two is to come, and at the moment I have a rough outline but no concrete information to share. I also wont know anything about the starter box for a while, We wont start planning it out until everything from this KS has been released to full retail sale.

The Raider suits pretty much are the ones from Edge of Tomorrow. Whatever you did when you redesigned the Pulse suits though, they just look better and better every time I see them. It seems like with the Pulse suits, the Unity Council is falling a bit behind technologically. The Pulse suits look way more advanced than the AJAX.

I imagine the Pulse Suits are absolute bleeding edge Special Forces exclusive for the Republic; the Unity Council's R&D is likely capable of producing something similar or even better (given the fluff, they probably already have but it requires some hideously immoral surgical "enhancement" for the pilots that is getting in the way of more general deployment). The AJAX's description of the most advanced mech in production probably refers to general issue stuff rather than the "ace customs" on display on SoL

My small package just arrived.
I just backed for a squad of Unity Guard and the models look as great in person as in the pictures, if not better. Hardly any flash or mold lines (I don't even need to drill out the barrels).
Some details on their helmets for example is a little shallow so I need to be careful to not obscure it when priming but I think they'll look sweet once painted.
I'm very pleased to have received an extra Guard model as well!

Ok, got the latest email update for the Kickstarter. I like the new design angle for the CRANE infantry, although I do think it is a pity the trenchcoats have gone, from what I could tell from the image anyway. The gun in particular looks significantly more high tech, rather than just a standard 21st Century SAW. I can imagine it using some sort of high tech caselss ammo or something, to keep up the huge volleys of firepower. Will they have a large ammo box as a backpack? The targeting gear in the helmet looks good It would appear to be pretty much the same helm, but with targeting lenses, and I liked the helmet design before a lot. This just fits their role better, without changing the aesthetic too much (of the helmet). My only real gripe is that the trenchcoat has gone, I thought that was a good look, but I can see that this differentiates them from the Unity Guard more. I don't have a problem with waiting a bit longer either I would much rather you be a perfectionist over details and put out a better product than get worse models quicker It's not like I can do anything with the models anyway till I get home from Uni in late June.

I suggested having a skirt like the snow troopers from ESB. That could at least keep a similar silhouette.
I'm not really feeling the chest mount for the gun though. It doesn't provide the shooter enough mobility. Something like a steadycam mount would work a lot bettet.

Well, the way the mount looks to me, is that it clips on, and looks like it has a quick-release easy to remove kind of mechanism, for increased mobility, and then gets clipped on for sustained firing, like deploying a MMG.

Single point slings are not new. It just looks like an evolution of that system. Usually at the level she's operating, she'd be allowed to pick or provide her own specialty gear.

Your pose B pack of Drones are high on the priority list after Salute.
Awesome Equilibrium quote!
Any word on the B pack of Drones, I am really looking forward to those
Also, this...
...is just amazing
Edit: I'm behind the times, there was just an update posted with these already in resin!

Does anyone know how the shipping is going for the models that are already finished? I only pledged for some drones and am slightly surprised that they have not shown up yet.
Also the models above are awesome. It has been a great pleasure watching Anvil Industries grow over these few short years.

Was it Drone pack B? As far as I can remember, they are working through the Shard Strike set, and had a bit of a hitch in redesigning the CRANE infantry shown above, and will be completing the add-on packs after finishing Strike. Drones are high on the add-on priority list (which is being done in order of popularity IIRC), so expect your drones around mid to late June I would say.

Morning all,
Thanks for the positive feedback on the CRANE infantry.
I am making really good progress with the rest of the miniatures and I think SHARD STRIKE should be completed by the end of next week.
Once the figures from Shard Strike are done, completing War Drone pose pack B is top of the list and should take a couple of days in total to complete.
As people have been waiting a while I will be making sure Pose Pack B has some good content, not just a couple of different sets of legs.

I have to say, I really enjoy that those guns appear to be closer to the correct scale than some of your older weapons. The posing on your figures has also improved greatly since the first time I saw your stuff
I'm hating that I have to wait for this stuff to go retail but it's been a real pleasure to watch it unfold.

Sounds excellent, Anvil! I'd much rather wait for quality, so your plan for pack B is great (and if they have good pose variation and weapon options these could be a really big future seller, so better to take the time to get it right).
I agree with the others that watching this process has been awesome, particularly lately now that you seem to have gotten past the teething issues with the printer! The Crane infantry are my favorite infantry sculpts of yours yet . Of course, like Cain I'm really here for the drones but may get tempted into a few more things (your gun tractors are what got me to first dip my toe in, after all!).

Thanks guys,
@MLaw - Yep I have scaled the weapons down slightly for the newer stuff, still heroic scaled, but not to the same extent.
We will get it to retail as fast as we can!
@RiTides - Aiming to complete SHARD STRIKE this week still, so the Drones should be finished quite soon indeed
I am certainly really pleased our printer is working, but its actually a second one, the first one is still being a pain, I need time to fix and modify it but wont get a chance now until after the KS is done.
Here are three new female figures from the KS,
On the left a Spectre Operative, In the middle a named character, Gabriela Aguilar, read her full Bio HERE, and on the right a republic Commando, part of Idaho Yoshidas elite unit.

Joel, what are you doing? You're making sensibly dressed and propotioned female figures? No bare midriffs? No boob plates? No butts sticking out? What heresy is thid?
