admiral9 wrote:I said i had a power axe but i think a power hammer would fit better.
I believe you mean a thunder hammer, I suppose either is fine. I'd stick with the axe for now, but as the master of the forge your character has access to the greatest relics. Not all here, but he'll have a good few nifty weapons lying around on the strike cruiser.
Not me i disembarked and the bolts are already flying at me. I'm most likely gonna lose the ship or atleast a wing in my next post in the form of a leman russ battle tank for the enemy.
Don't suppose you guys could repost your character sheets at some point? They should all be put in the OP together, and it saves Magnus from having to go through dozens of pages to find them.
Background: Robert used to be a neophyte at the night lords. He never liked the hit and run tactics of the night lords but had always admired the iron warriors as well as the mechanicum of mars. One day out in the field one of the artificers was doing some emergency repairs on a skimmer but it refused to work. Robert took a look at it and successfully managed to repair it. The master of the forge saw his accomplishments and decided he would be trained to become a tech marine. 7 years later robert has returned ready to serve again with even more vigor.
Robert always is grim and whenever someone comes in for repairs all he can do is blame you for your faults he is very stubborn and he keeps distant from most night lords.
Wargear: servo harness/Plasma pistol/power axe
Powers/Abilities: Power of the machine spirits: I can replace the souls of a machine with my own for a temporarily time meaning i can control a single machine no matter how powerful.
On Nostramo, Leonidus was an infamous doctor, a surgeon of unparelled skill. He always had a certain skill when it came to human physiology, which was seen as a useful asset to the newly formed Night lord's ranks. A true pessimist and of dark morals, he cares next to nothing for those he heals, only that it helps win the battle again enemy skum. For a reason known only to him, Leonidus never allows others into his quaters, refusing enterance nearly to the point of violence. This, coupled with his bleak outlook causes many to believe that he is mentaly unstable. Other, more suspicious comrades believe he is hiding something. At the moment however, it is unknown. While in combat he always hides his face behind his personalised skull helm, a prototype model equipped with an advanced targeting matrix and numerous enhanced sensors, giving him amazing accuracy and senses even for a marine while he wears it.
In combat always acompanied by his Nocturnus guard, an elite group of stenguard veterans.
Wargear: artificer armour, master crafted bolt pistol 'Bloodbolt', Power sword 'Doctor's orders', apothicary gubbins.
Powers and abilities: Highly experienced healer, Advanced targeting, info and vid link matrixes (In the helmet).
Post is up. Darius Haestus is TGN's future character, for your information.
Reposting sheet:
Player: Dark
Name: Morias Kalvae
Age: 137
Appearance:
Personality: Morias is a man of stern complexion; dependable and efficient. He is slow to anger and judge, all qualities which serve him well as a Sergeant.
Rank: Sergeant
Wargear: Bolt pistol, Chainsword, Frag & Krak grenades, Mk 5 Power Armour.
Background: Morias Kalvae has served as a Space Marine in the 3rd company for as long as he can remember. He has been in four distinct squads, the latest of which he rose to command four years ago when the previous sergeant, a trusted friend of Morias's, was killed by a foul alien whose species had taken to plundering a world of the Imperium. Despite still being a relatively new sergeant, Kalvae has proven himself a capable leader and has served with distinction, leading his squad, the 6th Claw, the Ghosts of Moonlight, to greater feats of triumph and glory with each passing battle and campaign.
Player: The Glass Ninja
Name: Darius Haestus
Age: 230
Apperance: Under the helmet: Grey hair, green eyes, black and pepper stubble
Personality: Not the oldest of the legion yet still skilled, methodical and efficient. He is battle hardened and stern with a strong sense of respect for his superiors. Those younger than him, however, would be advised to follow his council
Rank: Battle Brother
Wargear: MK5 Power armour, Bolter, frag and krak grenades, bolt pistol
Background: The history of this marine spans centuries. He has fought every enemy of the imperium, slain thousands and save thousands. He has visisted hundreds of worlds and killed their inhabitants. He means for his career to continue for as long as possible. He wishes to fight for his Emperor, this is his only goal, his only joy. The only reason that he is not a sargeant or of even higher rank is the simple fact that he refuses promotion. To serve the emperor is a great honour, it is the only reward he requires.
He came to the present squad by chance, not by choice. His last squad was oblitereated with him being left as the only survivor. He has taken it upon himself to guard the younger members of the squad and to advise the sargeant as much as possible. He'll still smack the pup if he gets out of line though.

This can be fun as Blap is the youngest marine with us and i am master of the forge. But with your character you will most likely punish him xD with me stopping you again
Growing up in the underbelly of Nostramo, Karras Nox lived alone, abandoned by his parents. He was shunned by all, no gang would accept him as everyone felt uncomfortable in his presence. Many attempts were made to kill him, but Karras always walked forth unscathed, prewarned by unnatural visions of the actions of those who wished him harm. His enemies would often be found with strange electrical burns marking their flesh. On acceptance into the Night Lords he was singled out for the Librarium, and has since honed his skills in battle until he attained the rank of Epistolary.
Wargear:
Bolt pistol, Force sword ("Storm Bringer"), Power armour, Psychic hood
Powers/Abilities:
Foresight, Smite, Force dome, Quickening. Gate of Infinity.
Background: Possessed of a macabre wit and scornful demeanor, Krieg found himself promoted quickly within the ranks of the Night Lords. Krieg is a potent warrior, whose tally of heads taken in the name of the Night Haunter he himself had long lost count of. Rumours of Krieg's prayers to the old gods in the heat of battle have been dismissed as nothing but vox interference. Krieg has led the glorious Haggard Circle into battle for nigh fifty years.
Wargear - Power fist, melta bombs, plasma pistol, Bike
Appearance:
Abilities. Gifted hunter and master of stealth tactics, one of the highest ranking riders in the company.

Reasonably long? Jesus man, how long did that take?
Well I started writing it about an hour and forty five minutes ago, but it probably would've only taken about 40 minutes if I'd focused on it.. having your own website to tend to can be distracting.
Going through editing it a few times.. my long posts always have a few wrong words or incorrect spellings..
Speaking of that song, look up the 300 music video on Youtube. Its this song but it is awesome and the spartans remind me of how space marines would look in fluff.
I already took care of it seeing you didn't have the time so save a superior.
And blap in my next post i will most likely help you your area is the next zone i need to clear anyway.

It wasn't that bad..
I jest.
For when TGN finally gets his ass online, I left Haestus and the wounded Archaeus alone so you can, well, do anything else if you want to. Otherwise just stumble along and join the rest of the squads.
I will do nothing of the sorts.
I will interrogate the guardsman i left alive and discover they have a super heavy stored to the north east. There me and the phalanx will move. Although i will send the land speeders towards the bikers.

Actually, they're likely to have several super heavies. Technology and vehicles that are revered and rare in the 41st millenium are commonplace at this time, remember.
How many trenches are we having at the outer defences? One more I should think at least, with the city itself having pretty strong defences. I'd imagine a tank company would be guarding the main gate too, including a super heavy.
admiral9 wrote:Yes but convince me first. xD I'm pretty pissed at you guys except lucius ofcourse.
Withholding vehicles, resulting in many Marines getting slaughtered by the enemy tank brigage? Abuse of power, my dear Techmarine.. something that is frowned upon by the Astartes..
@Andy - nice post mate.. that's one mean character you got there.
I'm going to really start focusing on Morias being something of an enigma in the chapter because he is a lot more devout than any of the other Night Lords in the company.. something that might put him at odds with your characters.
My character is a psycopathic loner who captures living test subjects and does genetic experiments on them. Something that might put him at odds with anyone with morals
TheRobotLol wrote:My character is a psycopathic loner who captures living test subjects and does genetic experiments on them. Something that might put him at odds with anyone with morals
I assume this is a secret from everyone else.. if ever discovered, well, I don't think anyone would be too pleased.
Also, our good captain is a character from the BL novels.. so he won't be dying; no one will be getting their hands on captaincy until he gets promoted to first captain.. so if any of you are aspiring chaps like myself, forget promotion..
@Andy - nice post mate.. that's one mean character you got there.
Sound man! I was wanting to go full fledged deranged night lord. I was thinking of creating a super secret brotherhood, something like the one in Word bearers, if anyone read it.

Haven't read any of the Heresy novels yet, or any novels from a chaos POV in fact, but I can imagine.
When the heresy fully opens up, it'll be interesting to see how our company reacts. We'll likely have a new commander by that point and we've got various elements likely to be interested in chaos worship, something the Night Lords later despise.. and then you've got Morias trying to preach the Imperial creed.

None that are listed. One Assault squad, the 8th claw, the 10th claw who are Devastators, and there's the 4th claw, Blap's squad that he rather confusingly abandoned.

Name: Lucius Peris
Background: A new recruit to the Night Lords legion, Peris has already proven his might in ranged warfare, able to land a shot dead between the eyes of his victim from 500 paces. He will often separate from his squad, aiming to get a vantage point. He is calm and calculated compared to most Night Lords, able to keep his mind sharp even in the thickest of the fighting. He is utterly loyal to his Legion, and will lay down his life for another Marine if it comes to it
Wargear: Stalker Bolter, Cloak, Close Combat Weapon
I call dibs on any scout squads that may or may not appear at some point in time.
Anyway, I plan on moving the bikers along the tracks to discover an underground base of munitions and dark secrets.
Surely if a single planet decided to go rogue, they should have some super big secret, amirite?
One thing though, stalker bolters aren't invented for another 10,000+ years.

Well, all the units are still fighting at the front with you guys in the main force, they've just been unmentioned, except for the squads that others lead and the ones with my character.
Taken, obviously, as it's lead by a PC.
1st Claw - 5 man Terminator Squad - Armour of Nox
Sergent Taric - rockerbikie
Wargear - Terminator Armour, Lighting Claws/Power Swords, Varied Twin-Linked/Combi-Bolters.
Same as above.
2nd Claw - 5 Man Veteran Assault Squad - Midnights Embrace
Sergent Harper Layhe - Angry Squig
Wargear - Jump Pack, Power Armour, Lightning Claws, Power Weapons, Chainswords, Bolt Pistols.
Once again, same story.
3rd Claw - 5 Man Veteran Assault Squad - Talons of Dusk
Sergent Edvard Einer - Deadshot
Wargear - Jump Pack, Power Armour, Lightning Claws, Power Weapons, Chainswords, Bolt Pistols.

Oh and i posted.
Why would you send them to Mars? Seems to me that the Forge Master is more likely to keep them for the chapter's use, if necessary.

Yeah darks right, if anything of use is found it would more than likely be used by the chapter or used to lower moral of the foe, not handed over to the dogs of mars.

Assault cannons didn't exist during the heresy.
Then i guess its just twin linked bolters. And i wanted to put them in my personal forge as a spoil of war. But then i realized such important spoils should be brought to mars.

Something like 4 claws with rhinos and the 3 land raiders?
There aren't actually any more claws, so you'll just have to make an armoured assault using predators and land raiders.
We have 2 devastator claws.
And i mean in the form of a relieve force so the battered down assault claws see 3 land raiders and 6 predators and they are all like hooray we have support.
admiral9 wrote:We have 2 devastator claws.

I'm pretty sure we only had one Devastator claw, although without the codex astartes it's perfectly possible they'd all be armed with heavy weapons.
And it's a bit early for a relief force, battle's only been going on about 25 minutes.
It's a bit against the night lords theme to attack in full force straight away, I thought they used every dirty trick in the book to gain the advantage, and only attack when there is little or no resistance.
Toastedandy wrote:It's a bit against the night lords theme to attack in full force straight away, I thought they used every dirty trick in the book to gain the advantage, and only attack when there is little or no resistance.
Yeah, I thought that to after reading up on them, but by that point I'd already dropped directly into the heart of the enemy in the most un-night lord way ever.
And i use conventional methods, look at it like this. With my power i can control all machines if i want to i can become the ultimate infiltrator like that but i hate it i hate my power and i will explain that to lucius after this planet.

That's true as well, it did say they often used "over kill" amounts of force. But we're more talking about the application of said force.
TheRobotLol wrote:So, Admiral9, how should i meet your character or do you wana meet me?
I'd assume the Apothecary and senior Techmarine assigned to the company would probably be acquainted already, after years, perhaps decades of service together.

No it isn't. Im thinking up some fluff to back it up, i have something like this. I was the chief engineer of my family on nostramo we where one of the rich ones but they where anti cruze. They where planning on killing him. While i was loyal, so i being very used to machines and that backed up with faith to cruze manifested into that power. Its more of a understanding than a power. The machine spirit just accepts my presence and lets me have full control. And i killed my family by controlling the defensive systems of the city. Because otherwise there would have been an uprising thats also why i hate to use it because it reminds me of the blood and agony.

I don't see why you can't. AFAIK 7th and 8th claw are in need of a commander
7th Claw - 10 man Assault Squad - Talons of Fear
Jump Pack, Power Armour, Chainswords, Bolt Pistols.
8th Claw - 10 man Assault Squad - Bringers of Fate
Jump Pack, Power Armour, Chainswords, Bolt Pistols.
Also, this is Pre heresy, so no purity seals or daemons.....yet
It would probably be best if you read the entire story just so you know whats going on.

The Emperor's Children one.

I'm more or less in the heart of the city. Not dead bang central, but within a few miles.
You should also add on our armoured column (also the enemy vehicle fleet near the main gate) and the location of the two jamming arrays, and the enemy central HQ at, surprise surprise, the centre.
Admiral, could you please change where you found me? I managed to kill the Leman Russ gunner and flee. You didn't have to hack down all the infantry and the tank. Say you did that afterwards.
I found a nice map of a hive city we could use for the capital, I cleaned up some of the post-heresy markings, but left the arbites precinct.
I'm going to be doing a bit of cleaning on the main map, and put everyone i missed into it, and some enemy positions. If anyone wants me to add anything just let me know.
That city is the capital. The fleet of vehicles, which I'll make a comprehensive list off the top of my head below, is at the main gate to the city, which is behind the third trench line.
Traitor vehicle fleet:
[first vehicle of each cohort is command vehicle]
- Command cohort: Annihilators -- Baneblade - Dirge of Annihilation -- LRMBT - Pride of Torayo -- LRMBT Vanquisher - Hunter at Dusk -- LRMBT Vanquisher - Eagle Eye -- Chimera (with elite soldiers) - Lilith -- Chimera (with elite soldiers) - Tanner's Joy -- Chimera Mechanised Infantry unit
admiral9 wrote:I need more than 3 land raiders and 6 predators to eliminate that.
A good commander gets the job done with what he's got.
Lets talk tactics. You could attempt to lure one of the cohorts away; our assault squads would be able to jump in and use melta's, if the bikers got over here then they would be very effective in hitting them from the side and rear with melta's and explosive charges.
Plus, we'll have at least 3 Thunderhawks (I forget the older version that we seem to be using's name) that could attack from above, drop bombs etc.
Well i can ofcourse go in the night and hijack the baneblade before the main battle but that means i need to use my power.
And that ofcourse means i need to have a serious reason why i should do it or a command from the captain.
admiral9 wrote:Well i can ofcourse go in the night and hijack the baneblade before the main battle but that means i need to use my power.
And that ofcourse means i need to have a serious reason why i should do it or a command from the captain.
You think you can just waltz up to them and hijack their command vehicle?
They'll be manned 24/7, hell if nightfall comes they'll likely either lead an assault, which won't be conducive to our good health, or pull back inside the city's main defences.. which isn't much better than an open fight.
Way1:I lose everything and go uber rage after the battle.
Way2: I lose my command vehicle and 4 predators and i capture the baneblade AFTER the battle and use it as my next command vehicle. (Remember i will only use armor when we face a armored company like we are doing right now.)
Toastedandy wrote:ALso, LRBT are primarily anti infantry tanks, predators would have a field day .
Not so, many will have Lascannon's on the front.. and the 2nd Cohort has a ton of Annihilator pattern LRMBT.. that's twin-linked Lascannon turrets for all you uneducated guardsmen.
Not to mention the Vanquisher's.. those buggers are packing serious AT shells.
admiral9 wrote:Well anyway you guys will get lots of melta to jump on em tanks and i have 10 land speeders to my disposal as well.
Hm, just did some research. Land Speeders were originally fielded en masse and used by the Imperial Guard, and following assumption, the Imperial Army beforehand. It was only after M31 that it was reproduced and widely adopted by the SM's I believe.
Also, Multi-Melta's probably don't exist at this point. They weren't available during the heresy I think, but I may be wrong on this point.
Land raiders were also Imperial army material.
And i don't actually know i think they had multi meltas but i also may be wrong there.
And i can give them missile launchers right cause then they will just get a krak heavy loadout and prey on the rear armour.
You mean legio cybernetica? Those are only mechanicum property. I will need to trade something with them to get those. If only SOMEONE didn't destroy that super heavy artillery train.
Unlikely, I'm behind enemy lines causing all manner of havoc for the foreseeable future until you lot kick down the doors and reinforce us.
Thing is.. if things go well (ie enough of us actually survive) we might be able to get those traitors to surrender if we can capture their leader.
Of course, the Marines might be too mad about the number of brothers that have died by that point to think rationally.. might execute him on the spot.
We shall see..
Yes.. I think I'll be writing an extra long post today. It'll span a fair amount of time in-game.. keep in mind that me and TGN's characters are likely in a different time span currently to you lot at the front lines.
admiral9 wrote:Hmm wondering I haven't made a time skip so why would you guys be in a different time span?
Because of the sequence of events.
You lot capturing two heavily defended trenches, likely manned by hundreds at the least, would've taken a lot more time than what has happened so far for me and TGN's characters. We've podded in, engaged in three squad-level fights and are planning our next move. That's a lot quicker than what you lot have been through.
So, we're currently behind, time-scale wise. But assuming the overall plan was to capture the front lines, then have our forces behind the lines cause enough havoc to split their tank forces (and other forces in general) in order to allow the reinforcements to sweep in and meet much less resistance, means that the time you guys spend waiting for us in your camp is the time my troops will be carrying out their job behind lines.
IHateNids wrote:forgive the noobish question, but GM?
Yeah.. he's not GM quality.
Or I could be a loyalist IGLRBT driver if you need armour.
Imperial Guard don't exist yet, we've got Imperial Army buddy. As cool as a tank driver would be, it would be hard for you to properly fit into this game, what with it being about a Marine company, whose story will likely extend beyond just this single planet.
Or brring Nemesor Tokarn back into things.
Necrons? Ehh..
admiral9 wrote:Do you know someone from your website?
Hm, perhaps. Though everyone over there, including the experienced GMs, are all pretty tied up in games already.
Well, the Night Lords are more or less "rogue" by this point anyway.
The way I see it the only people who will even attempt to remain loyal to the Emperor will be Morias and the remnants of his squad, perhaps some other Marines who have loyalties to him but it is doubtful they'd follow him over the captain. If there's a chaplain present, which I imagine there may well not be considering the Night Lord's disregard for faith, but if there is, then he'd stand by Morias.
That's what I'm really looking forward to. What sort of divide will happen amongst the company when the heresy breaks out.

Really now... still hiring?
I have experience and a recommendation from Blap .
It'd be nice to have two more in the game, it might be good if you both took sergeant positions in two of the remaining squads without PC's in them.
Ok, so how about on of the Preds that admiral mentioned in his first post? (cos I don't want to corrupt this one with necrons)
And yeah, ECRPG necrons: we have an Exterminatus vessel, we have almost killed most of the characters, and one of them has killed more Daemons than Draigo
I was wondering don't all requests for armored support or equipment change need to go towards me as the master of the forge has control over all armored vehicles and aircraft.

So a techmarine controlling the predator or a normal marine?

Usually to the field marshall (captain) Master of the forge have little role in the battle apart from the repair and maintenance of their machines.

Yeah, the Captain requisitions the vehicles. Techmarines and the like don't get much say officially, their word just carries some weight. They're also meant to be shunned by many for their role.. something we haven't had come across in character interaction so far.
No thats more for the normal tech marine.
The master of the forge is the highest ranking member in the forge of a space marine chapter. (And that again is equal to a company from the great crusade.)

You just made me realise something.
This is a pre-heresy grand company. We've only got roughly 100 marines currently, when there should be up to a thousand.
Dontcha just hate missing the little details?
We could just say they've yet to arrive or the situation wasn't deemed to require a full company.
The Master of the Forge is an Astartes Chapter's most senior Techmarine, charged with the maintenance of the Chapter's fleet of armoured fighting vehicles, such as Rhinos, Land Raiders and Predators. His knowledge of the arcane sciences has been refined over centuries of service, and rivals that of the senior Tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus of Mars. The Master of the Forge is so skilled that he can tell what is wrong with a vehicle's Machine Spirit at but a glance. Such skills conspire to make the Master of the Forge something of an outcast in most Space Marine Chapters. Though he is always part of the Chapter Council, the Master of the Forge is an outsider to all save his subordinate Techmarines, whose company is shunned in all matters save those that pertain to his beloved mechanicals.
They are senior techmarines, but still fill the same role.
I doubt it as only one strike cruiser was described entering the system.
To add to what Andy quoted:
These senior ranking Techmarines are charged with the maintenance of their Chapter's fleet of armoured vehicles and use their arcane knowledge of science that had been refined over centuries that rivals the most senior Techpriests of Mars. Their skills are refined to such an extent that they can determine the ailment of a Machine Spirit with a simple glance and recognise the cause of its intemperance from the whisper of its tortured mantra of function. Such a skill tends to make them somewhat of an outcast within the Chapter even though they are members of the Chapter Council. Despite this being the case, they are seen as outsiders to all but their subordinate Techmarines and are shunned in all matters except the mechanical. This isolation tends to further a Master of the Forge path into eccentricity as they are surrounded either by silent machines or witless Servitors. As a result, their own voice becomes atrophied and on the rare occasions when they do speak, they do so with a clipped, monotone, cold tone that is uncomfortably precise in detail as well as delivery.
