I added a whole Captain level pledge to my Archer in the pledge manager as a Christmas present for a friend. I don't know if that will be possible when the reopen it, though.

Yeah, like yourself, I'm a late backer. Unlike yourself, I didn't get the emailed update. But thanks for the info. How much are the card sleeve packs, anyway? Now I'm wondering if it's worth doing a Cincy on the cards.

I'm a little sad to read this update, as it seems things will be slightly delayed. It's looking like early February for NA backers for the base came and a few other extras, with April for the stretch goal models. But don't go by my word. Read the large update below, and marvel at the amazing models that are being delivered.
The Longest Update in the History of Updates
Let’s start with news about delivery.
The base game and the sleeves are on the boat. They should be delivered in the middle of January. We’ll let you all know with an update and pictures of the massive amount of materials.
We’ll have our advanced copies by December 16th/17th. Any copies for review will come out of these.
The second wave of minis are in production. I have pictures of final models below. The files for the second wave of printing have been submitted, but are being purposefully delayed because…
…the third wave of sculpts have not been approved at this time. We expect to approve them before Christmas, but that delay puts us in the middle of two holidays: Christmas and Chinese New Year. This delay rests solely on us. There are three minis that needed some tweaking: the minotaur, the rat king, and the dragon. You can see these miniatures and the adjustments we are making in the photos below. EVERYTHING is done and approved except for these sculpts.
This creates a bit of a problem for us. The second wave of printing covers tiles and cards, but it also covers the packaging for the second and third wave of minis. Because the packaging covers both the 2nd and 3rd miniature waves, the entirety is delayed.
Sincerest apologies aside; what does this mean to you? It takes roughly three weeks to process orders. The new schedule has us receiving the second shipment (the one with all the stretch goals) in the middle of March.
Domestic customers will receive a shipment in early February (the base game, metals, shirts, litho, BF insert, and sleeves) and in early April (the stretch goals). International customers will receive one shipment in April. We are very confident in where we are now. You need only see the photos and the minor adjustments we are making to see how close we are to done. In fact, I am much more at ease as I write this than I have been in months, because so much is absolutely done, approved, and in production. And, we know exactly how long production takes.
But we also understand Kickstarter and right now you might be saying to yourself, “Here we go again…another infinitely delayed KS.” We want to reassure all backers with a guarantee. We are so confident you’ll have your game and stretch goals within five months of the original date that we will give a refund to anyone who requests their money back if we fail to deliver your pledge before June 31st, 2014.
Logistics and business aside, let’s take a look at all the stuff we have in and haven’t shown:
Trickster
Spriggan
Skald
Conner and painted Brigand.
Twilight Knight...this is just an amazing sculpt. This picture doesn't come close to doing this model justice.
Tailless and Keesi & Og
Syclopt and friends.
This model is so much cooler than I thought it was going to be. It really surprised me. His back is so nasty...super happy with how he turned out. Oh...and the painted Archer.
Ia and friends
This boss feels cool, and the arch of the back makes a figure that is static truly dynamic. His friend, the painted Apprentice.
Bones is massive. He is over four inches wide. And the painted Acolyte, which you have seen.
Orcneas, Master of Master is a BOSS! He is freakin' huge. I think our painted Soldier is a deadman. Just speakin the trooft
Boss group shot. Gonna have me some fun....
Prepare to be impressed when you get your pledge. I expected a lot from what we have done, but we have exceeded even my lofty expectations. I couldn't be more proud of what we are giving you.
These are just the samples they sent. Obviously all the Heroes will be represented. The cards fit very nicely, and the plastic is very strong. The images are vibrant and hold Keith's art very well.
It is a three piece insert.
The tiles and boards fit underneath. Sorry about the blurry picture.
The Battle Foam insert fits in the box wonderfully. As stated it is three pieces. The pictures above are the mock up. Depending on what you do with your dice, you'll have 9 extra Minion slots, and 2 extra Captain slots.
Soldier - front
Soldier - back
The metal tokens and coins are done. Here is a sample. They are pretty sexy. We were very pleased with how these turned out. We think you will, as well. You'll also be happy to know, they fit perfectly into the Hero Boards.
Here is the final sculpt of the Torchbearer. Tom did an amazing job on him. Announcing him was one of my favorite times in the Kickstarter. He was inspired by all of you, and your tremendous outpouring and support.
You'll notice the Iathi Lair is less phalic. Yes, we noticed it as well.
Traps - Done.
Etrus the Last. I love his backstory.
Etrus is one of the 3rd wave sculpts that ISN'T approved. You get a really good idea how close everything is to being done. The correction may seem very small, but it is important enough to us to delay the 3rd wave (which delays all of the stretch goals). Basically, the underside of his hammer is too smooth. It removes the believability of the model. It breaks the 4th wall, if you will. We also wanted to make his smile more menacing, and less happy.
Urulock
Size comparison with the Acolyte.
This is another of the 3rd wave sculpts that isn't approved. His hindquarters are a little too plain. They lack texture. Simply put, they are too smooth and won't hold paint very well. Once again, you can see that the delay is really about making minor changes to an already finished model.
The Rat King. My wife gets grossed out just looking at it.
This is the last of the models that need tweaked. The tails should be smooth, not furry. Once again, a very simple fix.
Alt Hero - Fighter
Alt Hero - Brigand
Alt Hero - Acolyte
Alt Hero - Apprentice
If you are wondering about the Archer, for some reason the picture won't transfer/link. Other images, we are keeping back for other updates (Duncan's Trickster level is getting his own update, so you can see everything at one time).
The Kickstarter's success has allowed us to hire a long time member of the MERCS team, Tom Mason. He is the sculptor behind Marcus the Ready and the Torchbearer. He is an amazing sculptor and is responsible for nearly half the MERCS teams. We are so very happy to have him aboard. It really helps streamline MERCS, Myth, and undisclosed future products.

Tight Money guarding the doors.
When creating a company, you have ideas about what you'll be doing, none of which tend to be correct, and where you will work. We have had the good pleasure of inhabiting our own office for four weeks. It is still a work in progress, but things are moving forward. It is pretty fun to come in every day and work with these guys on the world's finest games.
Pretty amazing really. How far everything has come and how close we are.
As I stated earlier, I'll be creating an update where we highlight Duncan's Trickster level. The quest, the miniature, and the special card associated with it. We intend to carry the story of Donnchadh forward into every expansion we do. Donnchadh is now a part for Myth and will be in every expansion we create. His story will be long and involved, and sometimes it may seem that the Darkness has won, but for Heroes...
We'll also be doing an update and video of the unboxing next week.
Finally, at long last for some of you, we'll be posting the Slaughterfield video with the Skald, Trickster, Spriggan, and Brigand. I stated in the comments somewhere, we have waited so we could use real cards with real art.
Thanks for trudging through this overly long read.
Sculpts look good. Sprung for my missing Agents of Darkness. Still haven't gotten the Slaughterfield cards, but I don't think that's going to be a huge issue for me.
Hopefully this will give me the Heroquest type adventure I've been craving since Heroquest itself won't be any time soon...
I think that it will fulfill all your Heroquest cravings and then some - especially as it will, hopefully, have updated 21st century game play mechanics too!
I didn't really care about the battle foam inserts, but now that I have seen them I do. I didn't realize the female fighter was going to be a, uh, rodent person.
I actually did find this one surprising - after all the (what now turns out to be) bs about reasons why they couldn't deliver the whole thing early in December "for tax reasons, so it'll all arrive first thing in Jan instead". Now they're talking about April and June.
I guess you can't trust anyone in the industry to talk straight or deliver on time - except Mantic on the latter point, and they may just decide to change materials on you at any point without mentioning anything...

Yeah, I am not thrilled about the 'Ratman Thief' and 'MongooseWarror'. Seems very random and out of place to me. It is what it is... I wouldn't have minded if they did 3 versions of each class, male/female/beastperson, but It was kinda odd to me.
I really like how they did the monster packs... Bugs, Orcs, Undead, Cyclops, Rats, Elementals... BAM! Easy groups and themes which really work strong together.

I'm not sure the tax thing was bs, as at the time they may not have known that they would have to redo three sculpts, and were basing the projection on them being good to go. Something about attributing to malice what can easily be attributed to stupidity comes to mind.
From the way they were talking about it a month or so ago, the trigger was pretty much pulled on 80% of 98% of the sculpts, and they chose to hold it back until Jan - now three sculpts are suddenly holding the project back 5 months(?!) - if we count December - which was when everything "would have" been delivered if not for the tax thing...
Alpharius wrote: However, I think all the other Ultra-Late Kickstarters have effectively beaten the outrage out of me at this point.
This.
I feel like a 1-3 month late KS is doing well; up to 6 and I'm annoyed but not surprised; more and things are getting pretty bad; and under a month is golden
+1 month extra for every $100,000 the project pulls in over the target
Oh, I usually do. And my outrage is mostly gone. And I'm pretty much capping out on KS projects with the last couple that I'm looking at. Still, one thing that does manage to piss me off is when delays are announced in the manner of Relic Knights - which is what this one just had. And Secret Weapon, for that matter. You know - when "delivering in a few weeks" overnight to "delivering in 3-6 months"...
I've become beaten down by KS that I'm outrage proof and can't even pre-emptively get outraged at palladium. I decided total extinction was going to be my last "unknown quantity" KS. I'll still back Mantic and a couple others that have shown they can deliver an on time or nearly so project, but the salad days of throwing money at companies is over.
Amazing how much plastic and cardboard sits untouched in the closet. Hopefully MYTH will satisfy the Heroquest itch when it comes in sometime before June.

Agreed, this looks surprisingly good! They have executed it very well, imo... even the delay is a bummer, but not that bad.
Yeah, I'm pretty calloused about KS delays at this point sheesh.

The Myth base game arrived. You know that point in between hope and fear, yeah that was us about 90 minutes ago (had to wait on the video to upload). It has been a long pull towards this point. EVERYTHING is outstanding. It is better than we had hoped, and we had pretty high standards.
The colors pop. The materials are outstanding. The tiles feel fantastic. The miniatures are stiff and maintained their definition. The entire package is really above most of what you see out there.
Matte with a UV spot varnish on the art...so good.
The box grabs your attention. It would be impossible to not notice the box on a gaming shelf or in the hobby store. In fact, it will probably reach out and punch you in the mouth if you don’t pick it up.
The cards are sharp. They feel really good to the touch. Keith’s art absolutely jumps off the cards.
The Realm tiles are so awesome. I cannot say enough about the feel and look of the realm tiles. They are so stiff. No warping at the 90 minute mark. Everything we could have hoped for.
We were all floored by how good the Realm Tiles are.
We are so grateful you guys had faith in us and backed Myth. Seeing the final product, I think you'll be glad you did.
The plastic is hobby level firm. The details are outstanding.
The rule book is pretty sweet. Our background is in books, so you can expect great layout with lots of visuals.
Finally, here is the link to the unboxing video:http://youtu.be/DilQolkkauo. This is the first time we had seen the final pieces together.
The best part of this one for me was:
The plastic is hobby level firm. The details are outstanding.
I really cant wait for this game to come out, incredibly sad i missed out on the kickstarter. Does anyone have any information of if it really would be feasible to play this game solo?
It looks great! Hopefully the minis are as quality as they are saying,... Because they look very very good!!!!
You can surely play the game solo if you are willing to play two or more characters at once,..... They may be able to provide some tweaks that would allow you to run only one hero, but there has been no mention of this since the KS
Huge update including full rules PDF and full card details,.....woot!
The last nine or so days have been interesting and very unproductive, and all for various reasons. I had a 24 hour trip through what I have heard is being called the Ferrari flu. I can attest to both the quickness and the ferocity of what I experienced last Tuesday (New Years Eve). We were out for the New Year's holiday. We were snowed in last Thursday and today. If you are counting, I was only in office Monday and Friday of last week. My compatriots were in similar situations. It hasn't been a kind week and a half.
Ahhh, but a new dawn rises. And if I had to wait, this is an update worth waiting for. It is seriously like three updates in one.
Urulok
I don't want to share too much of the quest, but I felt a picture of the final dragon deserved a bit of the text from his KS exclusive story quest you are receiving. This is the opener for "The Song of the Whelp":
Without warning the whelp arrived.
With flame and misfortune, friendless,
a dragon, wretched and wrothful,
seeking wealth and former fame.
Marked for misery, a malicious intent
rendered in him the right of revenge.
Urulók, cloaked in flame, had come.
Unrelenting slumber defeated,
by a cracked cage, opened under the earth,
the hoard-guard awoke, long under
the mountain the wyrm waited. Focused on a foe:
Hurn, the high-lord of Heroes, worthy warrior whom
war-death evaded, warden of the whelp.
Missing Miniatures
We also realized that we hadn't shown you the final pictures of some of the other figures. We like to have other stuff to show later, but as we are very nearly at the end of this first journey, we might as well show some more. The photos below are older, but unseen.

Donnchadh - Duncan's Trickster Level
We are so thankful that Duncan picked up the first Trickster level. If you didn't know, this was his first KS and to jump in with two feet and trust us is pretty great. It turns out, we couldn't have asked for a better partner to create a Trickster level with. Duncan comes to the table with ideas. I was able to take his preliminary idea and fold Donnchadh's story into that of Myth wonderfully.
As I have said in the past, this is just the first step in the story of Donnchadh. There are some great things that happen here, and I couldn't be more proud of what we were able to do with this backer specific content. I hope it provides others with an understanding of how we value our people and those that take this journey with us.
First off, here is the final Donnchadh miniature. It is an impressive miniature. We really like how it turned out. And while the figure is the only thing obligated by us, we really like our world to live and breathe. Why is this figure in the game? What brought him here? In this case, Duncan really supplied a lot of the background. It is inspired. However, we wanted Donnchadh to be special. The Twilight Knight has the only orange weapon in the game thus far, and we didn't want to take that from her. We decided to morph the "mini-boss" Donnchadh into an Agent. This means he supplies an Agent ability card.
Agent ability cards are something that came into being after the KS closed. We were looking for a way to make the Agents special. An Agent ability card is a reward for defeating an Agent. Only one is awarded per encounter (but Agents are never killed; merely defeated). The players will decide who gets it (an interesting conversation) and that player gets to manipulate their Hero deck and place the Agent card in.
There is a bunch of stuff I could say about his card, but I won't. It is part of the quest, and to explain it all would be to spoil the quest. However, I can say that Donnchadh doesn't start out as the enemy of the Heroes. It is only after a lengthy KS exclusive story quest does he become an Agent.
If you hadn't noticed, Donnchadh wields two weapons, but our Novice Heroes don't. It is something we intended to design into the Journeyman expansion(s). However, having Donnchadh duel-wield meant we had to come up with the rules before we were planning. It just so happens that what will become the rule for duel-wielding in the expansions came naturally from testing Donnchadh. Now fitting what needed to be communicated on his Agent card, that was really tricky. When you look upon his card, know that it is a very advanced "monster card" and you would be better served trying to understand a more simple monster card first.
In the end, Duncan's Trickster level got backers a special figure and a special (KS exclusive) Agent ability card. It also got them the first part of a pretty epic quest.
Rulebook
Here are the links to the Myth rule book and a couple of the pdf reference downloads:
When we first began the rule book, the table of contents had several "reference" sections. We decided to remove those sections and create free downloadable pdfs from the website. (The book was simply getting too large). We have included two of the reference sections with this download, because card space is limited and we knew some explanation of the Hero cards would be necessary (the other Heroes are in process) and players will want to understand how the game and tiles are setup (we admittedly provided just a brief explanation in the rule set).
It should be noted, that while the rule book has been printed, the other two documents are pdfs so can be edited and changed still. If you think either of them need something more (or you would like to see a completely different reference section created for a different aspect of the game), we can still make additions.
Review Copies
Finally, we have a limited quantity of review copies in house and are sending them out this week. At this point we have a list of 15 or so people or groups we are sending copies to. If you would like to see a review somewhere in particular, let us know. We are probably already sending them a copy, but if we aren't we might/could.
You'll have to wait until next week for the finale of the Slaughterfield. We have to finish shooting the video.
I'm also really liking that they put all of the tokens and many of the rules from the expansions in the main box,.....
I know it may frustrate some to have a hero token for the Trickster or Spriggan when they can't get the deck,... but I love that the spawning rules for all 6 monster types are in there as well as the quest items (I think) from the quest expansions.
Watch it played preview unboxing - I must say it looks great!
and another game stuck in customs this time because a mix up with business and company names.
Project Update #92: The Darkness May Be Winning...
Posted by MERCS Miniatures ♥ Like
The sleeves and metal coins arrive today. The first shipment of base games were supposed to arrive today as well. Unfortunately, the games are stuck in customs.
How? Why?
We asked ourselves these very same questions. There are things that are unforeseen and then are things that are so off the radar unknowable, when they pop up you are left wondering how this could have been prevented. In this case, we have decided we couldn't.
It seems the products were shipped under the name MegaCon Games. And, in the manufacturers defense, whey wouldn't they. That is what it says on the box. That is what is says on the address they are sending it to. However, all the paperwork, contracts, and invoices were very carefully put under the name MERCS Miniatures.
You see our company's name is MERCS Miniatures. We have a DBA (doing business as) name: MegaCon Games (and this started only a few months ago). Why does this matter? To be honest, we didn't know it did until early this week. Our shipper has power of attorney to grab MERCS Miniatures stuff from customs, and this is where you say.... Oh, I see!
And so we are busy trying to either show them the paperwork that MERCS Miniatures IS MegaCon Games, and at the same time creating PoA for our shipper for MegaCon Games. We'll move forward with whatever happens first. We don't expect the delay to be long.
I try to have a good attitude about these things, but sometime you just sit around and shake your head. We'll, of course, keep you posted.
You're getting the base game box first- just like what's in that video.
All the extra crazy goodies come in the spring.
Unless you're in Europe and then you're stuck and get ALL of it in the spring as well.
ALSO- don't forget there's the MERCS kickstarter of some sort that is coming in the next month or so. There's rampant speculation on their forums as to what it will entail, but it's coming...
Sleeves, metal coins; plus lithographs, T-shirts, and battle foam inserts (for those that ordered them) will all be in the first domestic shipment along with the base game.

Kenny at MegaCon indicated that while their MERCS KS was originally planned to launch in January; it will not start until they start shipping this first wave for MYTH.
Eh. We only have, what, two weeks or so left in January?
And the games should be clearing customs soon and getting out into the wild in about the same span of time?
I say we see what they've got in store within a month or so.
I'm hoping for a board game that has figures from a new CORP, with starter rules to get them started in MERCS proper (plus regular starters as add ons)!
I'm hoping for a board game that has figures from a new CORP, with starter rules to get them started in MERCS proper (plus regular starters as add ons)!
I suggested just that on their forums,.....
A head to head or solo board game similar to Space Hulk,... Missions, etc.
Include one or two factions like EU Inc and EIC,... Make them in plastic in the game,... Include cards and rules for the tabletop game.
Cool bonus for the board gamer,... And an inlet to the tabletop game for possible new fans.
Nah. I'll be taking a couple pictures next week in and update. It should be good. We have solved the Power of Attorney issue and things are moving towards us.

So, good news there, right?
Sounds positive to me. Maybe waiting to actually have the shipment in the warehouse before popping the bubbly. Probably best for them to not get our hopes up too much on the off chance they have to dash em on the ground.
They really touched on a couple of areas that people need to know,..... Most everyone sees the cool looking minis and art and boards and cards,.... But it is the totally random activation of players and the teamwork that happens,... That's what makes the game so different than the other games that people would compare it to (Descent, SDE, Wrath, etc.)
You can play one card,... Then you friend plays a few, then the next guy,... Then maybe you play two more,.... Later after a few more people play cards,.... The bad guys activate,... But you've saved a really cool reaction attack card and have one card slot left to play it,....
That is a badass review. I am super stoked now. I hope I can get my non RPG friends to try this. Boardgamers get scared of DMed games and things too outside the board game arena.
Update today... hopefully the pics will be visible.

Our goal was to be “on time” and as this is the last day of January and the games are not here, I feel comfortable saying we have failed. Even if you wouldn’t have had them in hand, knowing that they were being sent out would have been a small victory.
All I can tell you is what is told to us, “They are on the way.”
It is one of those uncomforting statements that is meant to inform us that there is nothing in this part of the process that we can make faster or fix, in any way. It makes you feel no better. It makes us feel no better, but it is the only answer provided by the shipper this week.
Our expectations and emphasis on our shipment simply cannot be shared by our shipper. We are the eye of Sauron--always seeking. They have 10k+ shipments in process right now. We are but two containers in a sea of containers and everyone’s is the most important. The weight of the white space is crushing. Not KNOWING where the shipment actually is hurts us. Imagine you are a kid with a big pile of presents and Christmas is always tomorrow. Always tomorrow.
We expected it this week. Now we expect it next week.
Lonely...so lonely.Lonely...so lonely.
In the meantime, we received the sleeves two weeks ago. Metal miniatures are in the warehouse. The Battle Foam inserts are here. T-shirts are here. The lithographs are here and Keith has the pens. I don’t know when he intends to begin signing them, but he assures us he has the pens.
Sleeve row in the east wing of the warehouse.Sleeve row in the east wing of the warehouse.
Battle Foams finest Myth inserts reporting for duty.Battle Foams finest Myth inserts reporting for duty.
The racks in the warehouse were put up a week ago in preparation for the incoming shipment. The pallet lift and pallet trucks are ready. And so we wait.
We fill our days with game design, customer service, and the 800 pound Crawler in the corner. It stares at us.
I want to see less advanced copies shipped, and more backer orders shipped! Thanks for the impressions. I was curious how it would work with a smaller number of players.
I completely understand the need for review copies, but it does grate a little bit that the KS ones aren't shipped yet. Review copies need to go out before retail, but it'd be awfully nice for backers to get their in this same timeframe as well. What's the current sitrep for their shipping of the KS copies?

So in the meantime, and since there isn't a whole lot of info yet and we're all still sitting around waiting for Myth to arrive, MERCS has started to unveil their next game, Recon.
It's going to be a board game set in the Mercs world. So far this is the only known picture of it. They said they'll be showing more about it over the next couple of weeks. From what I understand, they'll be starting the campaign for Recon once Myth is getting out into the wild.
Sounds cool and I will be keeping an eye out for the KS, but still I ache for my Myth box. I know it is out of their hands at the moment, but I still yearn.
I joined their forum, JUST FOR YOU! Put in spoilers since it's big and I'm not going to resize it.
Spoiler:
As you can see it's pretty early.
If I don't get beaten to the punch Alpharius, I'll put it up in N&R when things are more concrete and the info is a bit more solid. They're ETA on getting things rolling is supposed to be in 3 or 4 weeks.
Well, making mercs a boardgame is the best approach they can do, I know I will get some flack for this, but I never felt the original MERCs as a proper wargame, but as a boargame wargame.
They might change it with version 2 of the rules, but with recon I think they are in the right direction.
So a new week begins and another round of suspense is upon us. Even though it isn't really Merc's fault, I still feel a bit like CHarlie Brown being told by Lucy that she will let him kick the ball this time. XD
No idea. Even though I know I shouldn't, and I try not to, I just keep hoping this week will be the week the shipment arrives and they post pics of them having a champagne party while prepping boxes for shipment to backers. They may be wearing formal wear while this happens, but it is not required.

Grant Me Serenity, part 1
We understand there has been quite the hubbub here as of late, hehe. We sympathize. It has been a roller coaster here as well. It appears as though you had just about ran out of patience. I know I had. I was very harsh with them a couple weeks ago, unjustly so.
Let me start by saying the games arrive at our shipper’s Indy hub, Wednesday February 26th. After they arrive, we schedule the two containers for delivery to our warehouse: we have a window of four work days (Feb 27-March 4). We have roughly 2-3 hours to unload each container.
Flush with relief and brimming with optimism, you would be right in wondering what had happened that the games are being delivered a month late. We don’t know all the details, but we do know that the games were not going to be let through San Francisco. Ever the resourceful ones, our shippers removed them and sent them up and through Vancouver.
There are many things we don’t know about the shipping process but what I know is that if our shipper BDP hadn’t been proactive in finding a solution, we would very likely still have games sitting in San Francisco customs and this update would be much different. It is why we work with them. The delay wasn’t ideal, but it was much better than the alternative.
Grant Me Serenity, part 2
I have been told (in no uncertain terms) that you all have never seen a couple of the models finished. Sorry to keep you waiting, thanks for your patience.

Grant Me Serenity, part 3
After the games are safely snugged away in the warehouse (I’ll snap some pictures and do another update), we’ll start filling base game orders. And yes, we are still going to have to fill base game orders. The issues that forced it before are still in place. We will fill domestic orders for the base game starting the day after we have brought the games in. It will be interesting to see how many of the orders we can fill per day. We have estimated 200-500/day depending upon people present. Regardless, when your base game ships you will receive an email and tracking info. I am sure people will begin posting about how they received emails their game has shipped. We’ll be moving as fast as we can, please be patient.
We expect to be deep into fulfillment for two weeks.
If you have not, I would suggest any backers double-check their shipping address this week. These are the last days to update addresses. We can still change addresses: email changes to danika@mercsminis.com Grant Me Serenity, part 4
We also plan to launch MegaCon Games next KS during the month of March. It is called MERCS: Recon. It is a fully cooperative game in the MERCS world. The game will launch with game rules and how to play videos. It has been ready for a bit now, but we wanted to start shipping Myth before we launched it. Every delay in shipping pushed Recon back further and tested our patience more.
MERCS Recon
In the end, we are very glad to have waited. We want our past, present, and future backers to trust we can fill our first KS before they double-down on our second. We’ve learned a bunch from the Myth KS. Let’s face it, Myth ended up being 5 times the size originally planned. We tried to be on time, but failed. We have already setup the Recon KS to be more streamlined and much easier to understand.
MERCS: Recon
If you are a Myth backer you will be getting an update in early March that directs you to Recon.
Grant Me Serenity, part 5
Keith and wife are still pregnant. She is now four days overdue. As I said, I am sure it is setting up to happen the day we schedule the first shipment. They are extremely excited but have just about ran out of patience.
Epilogue
We know these last four weeks have been tough for us all (backer, creator, and potential father alike) but sometimes you have to trust. When I used that word last week, some people pushed back saying we have not earned any trust because we have delivered nothing. I would argue that is the very meaning of trust. We have kept you informed every step of the way, inviting you into the process like very few KS projects. It is simply the way we work. You can expect the same process with Recon. In essence, that is what KS is about. If you trust in the product and the people, you back it. As the first Myth KS is winding down, we hope you feel your trust has not been misplaced. And we trust we’ll see you over in the Recon KS.
Now, that MERCS RECON bit might be a bit much here, but, hey, an update's an update, right?
In one of the updates there was some hurfblurf about "If we don't deliver by June/July (cant remember which) then we'll be willing to refund people." So additional delays have been foreshadowed for awhile.
And I keep thinking about the bs they spun about December delivery for the entire project, except "tax", so they held off. Now it turns out half of the stuff wasn't anywhere near ready at the time.
And I keep thinking about the bs they spun about December delivery for the entire project, except "tax", so they held off. Now it turns out half of the stuff wasn't anywhere near ready at the time.
This is actually a good point. I had forgotten about that.
Alpharius wrote: It is looking like the 'Tax Dodge' was just a plain ol' run of the mill 'Kickstarter Delivery Dodge'...
And what purpose could there have been to that?
There is no benefit to them saying they might deliver early and then not doing it,.... They did not mention it until after the KS was over,... So they weren't going after more pledges at that point. The implications of taxes are real, and I can not conjure up any reason to explain why missing a date that was never promised to begin with would have been beneficial to them at all.....they always said that "we hope to be able to",.... I can't see that as a dodge,..... Question what has gone on since,.... Fine,.... But questioning why they chose to revert to their original delivery plan??
That said: <redacted>,.... They would had to have paid taxes on the inventory on hand at the end of the year,... So they specifically planned to have the shipment arrive in January (yes, we know how that worked out), they had the game produced and shipped from China in December on purpose because of this.
I hope my reply didn't come out wrong,... I was not trying to be snarky. Just healthy debate.
Their original estimated date was Jan 14,.... So March (if that indeed is happening) does not seem that bad. November would have been super awesome though.
yamato wrote: I hope my reply didn't come out wrong,... I was not trying to be snarky. Just healthy debate.

Kickstarter delays aren't the issue. The issue is that they said everything was ready and that Dec delivery was held off at their own request. Now it turns out that this was far from the truth - "We're splitting waves because a lot of the stuff isn't ready yet." Why did they feed us this bs? The hell if I know, but it was clearly bs, since they obviously weren't going to have it all ready in November, December or January....
The part you are missing is that they discussed delivering the base game early....
The reason to deliver it early in the US was because of space restrictions in their warehouse,.... The majority would have to be moved prior to receiving the stretch goal shipments from China,....
The base game was indeed ready to be produced to in that time frame, but then they made the tax decision,... So they put off the delivery to them from China to January. So the production schedule was delayed specifically to that time.
So the fact that everything was not ready is really a moot point,..... At least concerning you thinking that the tax delay is BS,.... The last wave of stretch goals was delayed for other indicated reasons,... Which is why the balance of shipments, including the euro shipments was delayed to April. That fact has no impact on what is happening with the base game shipments in the US.
The game got delayed,... Total fulfillment delayed until April,... But that is totally unrelated to the previous stated attempts to deliver the base game early and the circumstances that led to them deciding to hold off until January for that,... And the customs and transit issues that have now delayed that further.
I'm pretty sure they said the whole thing would be delivered early/was pushed back, not just the base. I don't have the updates to hand, but if I'm wrong, I'll take back my bitching. I don't recall any mention of wave shipping or international shipments being shunted to a single shipment at the very end - much later - until after things were pushed back, though - then again, I've not been getting all of the updates. If you're able to check, that might clear things up.
Hold on to your butts, but we believe we can deliver the base game and certain other elements (t-shirts) early. We intend to do everything in our power to make this a reality. We are pushing hard to have production copies of the game into our warehouse in November. The stretch goals and add-ons will still be in January. No additional shipping cost will be charged to you. We'll continue to update you on the possibilities of an early delivery. We are not saying that a November delivery is a 100% certainty. It is a company goal.
They bolded that last sentence, not me.
As we got closer to January; they clarified that what was on hand to be shipped once the base games arrived would also be,.. Lithographs, card sleeves, metal figures, tokens, and coins, T-shirts, and Battle Foam inserts.
There was an update today - there was a bit about the birth of Keith's daughter and a baby picture whch I'll skip
As for the other delivery...the games didn’t make it into Indy last week. They seem to be part of the log jam coming out of Chicago. We are supposed to receive an update sometime today to discover if they made it out of Chicago and down to Indy over the weekend.
The metal coins and tokens are arriving today. This means the first shipment will have base game, stretch goal sleeves, metal coins, and t-shirts.
Both deliveries delay the Recon KS. We were hoping to launch it Wednesday. At this point, it would be foolish. I suspect it will slip to next week.
Fifteen stalwart friends formed ranks against the might of the first Myth container, ill-fated foe long awaited. The heroes, pressing forward, found their footing, quickly covering the ground with heavy game cases.
One container...
...floor stacked....
The Heroes!
Kenny, my dawgs!
Keith, my dawgs!
The first container arrived at 10:00. It held 3000 games; 1000 boxes. We had it unloaded in 80 minutes (we had two hours). It took another hour to organize the fillers and the floor stacked.
Let’s do some show and tell. This is what this half of the warehouse looked like before...
…and after.
This represents one-quarter of the total game order. The second container comes sometime Monday. We are going to work this weekend and get a feel for the orders and how many we can do in a day. By the time next week gets going, we want to be sending out 300-500 a day.
The last two containers are on the ocean.
Local Pickup
We are going to allow local pickup. If you are in the area and want to pick up the base game and various other accoutrement going out with the first order, please email mercs@mercsminis.com. Please put MYTH PICKUP as the subject line. Please include your name, order number, and the email associated with the order. Also, please bring an ID. We CANNOT give anyone an order without ID confirmation.
If you are planning on picking up the order, you must email us. If we have sent out your order before we have been notified, then you can’t pick it up.
Local pickup Monday/Wednesday/Friday from Noon to 7:00pm, and Tuesday/Thursday from Noon-5:00.
If you're a backer, you can get the address in the update, or if not, email them.

...a most sincere thank you!
We at MegaCon Games want to heartily thank all the backers that believed in us and the Myth project. We want to apologize that international backer are having to sit, watch, and wait with the most recent updates.
International backers orders are still holding onto their April time frame.
The First Order
Here is a picture of the first order put together containing the first copy of Myth from the first box of the 4101 we are receiving.
The first order.The first order.
What will we receive?
The boxes going out over the next ten or so days will contain the following pieces:
Myth
Metal Coins
Metal Hero Tokens
KS Exclusive Story Quests
Torchbearer
Stretch Goal Card Sleeves (not those you may have purchased extra)
If your pledge level calls for it (or you ordered these), you will also receive:
Signed Litho
t-shirts
Battle Foam inserts
We have all the metal figures in, but because we do not have the cards associated with them we are not putting them in this shipment.
Monday, March 10th is the first day people can pick up orders locally. We have already received numerous emails asking if people can come today. We simply need time to organize and situate our processes. Sorry
Also, I'm a little confused as to what bonuses, etc will be available. If we do Local Pick up, are we getting everything from the KS, including add ons?
I know they mention it in the post, but it's still a bit unclear to me.

If any DCers want to play some MYTH or demo the game, I would be down with meeting up. I pretty much did the 'one of everything' so now it just comes down to try to get my gamer groups interested in it!
From the comments if anyone is curious how shipping is being done.
---------------------
We are going by state, with a caveat of proximity. We do one close state and one far state.
We have done Indiana, Maryland, Illinois, Missouri (or part of), Ohio. Next is Mass
After washing my hands I have had a chance to sit down with it I am quiet pleased. The minis are vey nice, though a little cleaning is still required on some from where they were taken off the sprue, which is no big deal. I paid extra for the foam insert and am very glad I did as It certainly makes it a bit more manageable and will help keep the minis safe once they are painted. The box set comes with the hero plates for the Spriggan, Skald, and Trickster, just not the mini or cards.
From talking to the guys they are getting about 60-70 emails an hour while also trying to pack and ship, so if you try to get in touch with them be patient. A UPS semi was leaving full of your boxes when I got to their building, and I decided to let it go...this time.
I got my game, read the rules, played a demo game.
The product is amazing quality. The figures are great, the cards are great, the boards are great, the card sleeves are awesome.
The rulebook is 'nice' but there is a lot of confusion on 'I know how the mechanics work, how do I actually play an actual game'. The Quest system (which drives the gameplay) or the free-formed play is ambiguous.
I highly recommend reading these first... then reading the rulebook.
As for the game... So far, very fun. Once you get over the hump of starting, and someone know what to do, other players can pop in and only really need to know how their own deck works. I think if one person is experienced, you can get casuals in the game pretty easy.
Also, the progression system is interesting. Basically, every game your characters basically reset... EXCEPT:
*If you do a 3-act Story quest, you get a title. Every title you have allows you to keep one loot between games.
*Most ACTs allow you to modify your deck, so you can add more powerful attacks to your deck.
*Most quests allow you to modify the loot pool. This means the chance of pulling greens and blues over white increases.
Overall, the loot is stronger, the players are stronger, and they can carry loot which means they are stronger overall. Seems pretty good way for playing with a group. Also, it is no big deal if someone misses a session, You can just keep playing and he won't feel like he is behind everyone else.
I have to admit; I'm a little miffed. I live in Cincinnati, less than 90 miles from where these are shipping out of, and not only have I not gotten mine yet, but I haven't even gotten any shipping information and they won't respond to any of my emails.

Irritated.
Yeah, they just are going by state it seems, so for someone to be first, someone has to be last :( I suspect they are getting a lot of emails, but have said 'after everything is shipped, we will deal with issues'.
With shipping MYTH and with MERCS currently being KS'ed, I guess they probably can't handle much else?
Don't get me wrong 0 I always think a quick email response is not only possible, but pretty much something that should be 'standard' customer service...
Alpharius wrote: Don't get me wrong 0 I always think a quick email response is not only possible, but pretty much something that should be 'standard' customer service...
That is a reasonable expectation... Even if the response is a ticketing system confirming they have your issue. CRMs I feel are basic requirement for all e-commerce now a days.

Well, I guess that could be the case had they not said Ohio had already shipped.....

No, but I know they've been done with Ohio for a week now, and I've got no tracking, no game, and no responses to any of my messages just asking to confirm that mine had even shipped.
Got a bit worried about all the rule questions on BGG. Seems I'll have a lot of reading and playing to do on my own before inflicting this upon my family.
On the other hand, they're slowly getting acclimated to Super Dungeon Explore as well as Mice and Mystics, so I guess there's hope for them yet!
Hi, I'm regretting not having backed this one. I'm interested in the Captain level. I might be interested in expansions if you've got them and don't want to break up the set. I've got minis, some painted armies, and do commission work. LMK if you're interested, and what you're interested in. Thanks!
I think they're done with my home state - Massachusetts.
I haven't received any info on shipping or tracking though.
So I went to the Pledge Manager site to check, and found out that the website is down.
Anyone know what's going on?
I also am Massachusetts and have been scratchng my head to why I haven't received a tracking number. I e-mailed them this afternoon and about an hour later I got a tracking number from UPS and then about 10 minutes after that an e-mail from Danika saying mine had shipped that afternoon. Either a lucky coincidence or there's been some slipping through the cracks. Might want to try e-mailing her, danika at mercsminis.com.
New MYTH content pledge available in the MERCS: Recon Kickstarter. Just $40 for what ever is unlocked during the campaign.
Right now it is an Agent and a new hero:
Inquisitor Alger-
In Myth, he is an Agent class Darkness monster named Inquisitor Alger. He pesters the Heroes from a distance, with an attack called Confessor's Call that doesn't damage but increases the Hero he hits Threat.
If defeated, he grants the Heroes an Agent ability card named Master Tactician. It can only be played in the 1st action space, but if it is played then the card in the 2nd action space costs 0AP.
The Hunter class hero-
Not too much info yet on the Hunter, but he comes with his player deck and token and he is armed with a crossbow!
While I will probably get them, they seem like awkward designs for Recon. If I was a recon backer, I think a crossbow solid snake priest would not be very cool (unless his hand can be replaced with another weapon)
I don't know how a weird leather cape man fits into recon either. At least the trickster and twilight knight made sense for the game they were being KSed in.
Does anyone want to trade for a few of the bug-like monsters? I just want to get a couple of the bugs, and maybe a bug boss or something bigger, to see what they're like.
I have things to trade. Wondrous things. And space marines.

How many are you thinkin you want?
Ideally, two arachnid minions, one scorpion/captain, and one arachnid boss.
Also, Oregan? Did they just stop reading your address at the O?

Yeah, I don't know. It grates on me because I was giving serious consideration to picking the game up from them to save them the $11 bucks or whatever.
I should be able to do the bug minions for you. I'll shoot you a PM when I actually get the damn thing in.

Probably too preoccupied with the Mercs campaign now. Because running a second campaign while shipping a previous one would never be a distraction. Apparently.
The box is fairly thick and heavy duty. Which is what Sedition Wars should have been boxed it.
The plastic is fantastic. It's mildly soft and rubbery but cleans up a hell of a lot better than sedition wars. I Just removed the mold line off a mini in minutes. It still has that frizzly residue that you get with the SedWars minis but I did have to spend 30 minutes on one mini.
miniature detail quality-
Pretty good, really good for a board game.
It's not as soft as Zombicide or sedition wars, then again it may be due to how the minis are sculpted, these minis are a bit more cartoony and don't have the tedious details in some of the SeWars minis. Not sure how to explain it better than that.
Obviously these are not as detailed as metal, resin or plastic mold injection minis.
If there is one complaint, if you are heavily into painting and the hobby aspect, you may not like the fact the minis are glued to their bases. For board gamers, (which is pretty much what I will treat it as) it is a godsend.
Did anyone have a set of mini's whose tabs were all PROPERLY fit into the slot? I hate pre-assembled mini's because of the chance of an incorrect assembly. The "bodies" of the MYTH miniatures are fine, thank goodness, and basing with sand should hide most of the visible tab. And, not that a huge arachnid's on top of my miniatures buying list, but, dang, that thing would be costly retail!
Alpharius wrote: I'm starting to hear grumblings that the rules may not be 'what we expected' and/or are 'not so well written/edited'...
The game itself is good. I actually got the game mostly right based upon the rulebook. My 'guess' on what was intended was correct. Some people who may not be used to heavy or ambiguous rules like 40k seem completely lost tot he point they literally don't know what to do. I didn't feel it was anywhere close to some of the descriptions out there... The only part which was unclear was the quests, and they have since clarified it with some PDF references.
But I also play dozens of wargaming/RPGs which are much heavier than this... if you are used to Monopoly, this might blow your mind.
Once 'someone' knows how to set up the quests, it is pretty quick to pick up the mechanics and for players to play their decks.
That was my experience as well,.... The rule book can be fixed,.... I'd have been much happier if it was right from the start,....
But the game play is extremely satisfying. It's quite unlike anything that I've played,... I'd encourage folks to play it before writing it off due to some typos and omissions in the rule book.
That is what I got as well. The only other thing I think that shipped were the Battle Foam inserts if you ordered one. The second shipment will be all the extras: lair minis, extra darkness minis, expansion darkness minis, additional characters, additional tiles, ect.
from an unboxing online,.... it looks like the tokens and each of the three types of coins were each in their own small zip lock baggies, and another baggie for the metal torch bearer,... in that video, they looked precariously perched in a place where they might just slip out of the box!
searching for link,......
go to the one minute mark for the opening of the box:
Alpharius wrote: I'm starting to hear grumblings that the rules may not be 'what we expected' and/or are 'not so well written/edited'...
The rulebook reads like one big glossary. The downloads from the website are useful. Start with the Example of Play, and follow it. If you've been following the KS and understand the overall concepts, it's not hard to pick up the game.
I'd like to see an improved rulebook, perhaps as part of their next MYTH KS. Maybe something like FFG's Eldritch Horror "Your First Game" book?
I just got my box delivered, and had that awkward moment where you open it and realize you don't remember what you ordered...
FYI, there is a separate, paper-wrapped bundle in the packing box but outside of the shrink-wrapped game box that contains metal hero tiles, the Torchbearer miniature and three bags of metal coins.
The card sleeves are also on the outside of the box, so be careful you don't miss any.
No broken miniatures, but one lonely orc is missing a base.
I really have to say, I think that MERCS made a mistake not waiting to ship before launching RECON; having now seen the quality of this product, I'm a lot more interested in RECON. The boards are very nice, very solid, the printing seems good at first pass (nothing like the off-center problems of first printing Sedition Wars), the miniatures are very nice for a boardgame.

Yeah, I discovered this part late and am afraid I may have thrown out all my metal pieces, if they were in the box....

You know one of the things that was most pleasing for me with the cardboard? How well cut they are. The pieces were SUPER easy to punch out.
We are currently working on an official FAQ and “Your First Game” section. This will be included in the second wave shipment to domestic and the complete shipment for international backers.
This is just the first of many step to try to solve the rule book issues. We are shooting official polished videos this week alongside Recon and are updating the document on the website.
Also info about requesting replacements for missing and broken parts in the latest update!
Automatically Appended Next Post: BTW - those both look great!!!!
At this point, over half the domestic backers have received their game. Those still waiting, worry not they are on their way. UPS is bogged down and several backers we know have noted that their shipment date was moved out. USPS did not send tracking number or shipping emails to anyone. From what we understand, a toggle was not clicked when the system was set up. There were USPS packages in every state, so if you didn’t get an email and are wondering about your package, I would suggest patience. If you still haven’t received a package by the end of the week, then let us know.
If you have broken pieces or missing part, please email us at mercs@mercsminis.com. Please put REPLACEMENT PARTS in the subject line.
Let us know your order #. Include specifics on what is wrong or missing, and how many. Please include a shipping address.
International
It appears that the second wave stuff is going to be here late April. If we turn around the stuff as quickly as the first wave, we’ll be in good shape. We will fill and send out ALL international orders before sending out wave 2 domestic. EU orders are still shipping from within the EU.
This timing is pretty fortuitous as we should have a updated rules booklet ready to go along with it (see below).

52 Metal Treasure Tokens (Note: these so not match the colors used in the Rulebook and on the Item Crads. The symbols embossed on them do match. Also, there are more Copper/White Tokens than the carboard version in the game, you need to remove two right off when setting up your treasure bag.)
- 32 Copper Colored White Treasure Metal Tokens (possibly only 30) my 32 may be the fluke
- 15 Silver Colored Green Treasure Metal Tokens
- 5 Gold Colored Blue Treasure Metal Tokens

You can see all my Myth stuff here:
Well I'll just go throw my stuff away and cry in the corner now.
The crawlers are literally 2 colors + wash. Zanduri Desert, Bleached bone sharp parts and then agrax earthshade brown wash. Black dots for eyes with white dots for shiny spot
The blue arms are just fenersian grey with azureman blue wash
The poison sacks are goblin green with a dot of scorpion green, washed in thrakka green then white parts added.
All the heroes are just 'color within the lines' washed completely in agrax earthshade. Most heroes are only 5-6 colors.
No need to be a dick. I obviously meant in game terms. While I'm sure they look lovely, as they're non-functional, it means they're far from an essential KS purchase like additional characters - and it means they can easily be repped by aftermarket ones for those who don't especially care about the official ones.
The Soldier continues to be one of the worst minis I've seen in the last few years.
Definitely a little worried about having backed this now. Was hoping to have a game to play with my boys down the road but I may have to look at some chibi stuff instead.
A big shipment came in today, so hopefully the wave 2 stuff will be going out soon which will also mean our International friends won't be waiting much longer either.
That's the first FAQ,... They also have a much better walk through "first game" document as well.
The best news that we have is not a total reprint for wave two, but some of these additions should be included as hard copies.
They are now working on the full redo on the rule book, and they said that it will be available initially as a download, but that it would be printed and sent out to all backers as part of the expansion. KS (maybe later this year),....
The most interesting to me was that they indicated that they would be doing some card reprints at that time as well,.... Not bad.
I never heard anything about a shipment arriving,... Maybe they said something in the comments section,.......

We are still on schedule to receive wave 2 end of april. I will tell you if we don't get them or they are delayed. If everything works according to plan (and why should it, nothing has so far) we will fill all international first, then finish up with domestic.
usernamesareannoying wrote: fyi if anyone is interested.
they put up a pdf of the rulebook.
the new walk through is also really nice. it explains a lot of stuff.
yamato wrote: I'm not sure where that is coming from.
I speculated the shipment might be wave 2, since they were both set for April. It was just speculation, and I didn't mean for it to came across as anything more than that.
Had a quick conversation with Mercs at Pax and asked about the second shipment. A little hazy from memory, but either wave 2 just finished production and was about to leave or had just left China.
There were only about 500-600 European backers, so shipping to them should only take a few days and it shouldn't cause any undue delay for domestic shipping to start.
Doing the math and assuming no holdups in customs, looking at probably mid to late May for domestic shipping, but that's with my rough math rather than anything they said.
Take my 2nd hand information for what it is. As an aside, Recon seems like a lot of fun and everyone was really nice.
I did and liked it quite a bit. In fact, my non-board gaming friend I was with said he could see buying it and having a lot of fun. It's different enough from anything else that it seemed overly complex at first, but after a few minutes of sitting down and asking questions everything just kind of clicked. I think Mercs will take the lessons learned from the Myth rules and really get this one right.
Even though it's very different and shares almost nothing in common, I keep thinking of it as Gears of War on Steroids.
I was in for $120 and playing it definitely solidified my pledge. I'm toying around with bumping it to $200, which I wouldn't have thought to do the other day.
I can't decide if my not backing this project was a good thing or a bad thing.... Maybe if I see a Captain pledge going for a reasonable amount on Ebay I'll pick it up.
I still think it will end up being a fun game - once the revised and intelligible rulebook is released - that comes with a lot of nice, stylistically interesting fantasy miniatures.
Alpharius wrote: I still think it will end up being a fun game - once the revised and intelligible rulebook is released - that comes with a lot of nice, stylistically interesting fantasy miniatures.
Unless you have to buy it at retail... Then it just comes with a bunch of counters...
Yeah.. The spot I'm in right now, spend $300 to $400 on ebay or buy basically an incomplete game for $67.50.
How is the game incomplete(other than the poor rulebook)? The retail boxed game is the same as the box shipped to the KS backers, obviously just minus all the stretch goal rewards. There's 41 minis in the box and while there are tons of tokens and counters, none of them are there in place of minis for the monsters or heroes.
Yeah, the base game comes with 15 little spiders, two medium scorpions, and the big Terror, along with 15 orks and 2 orc captians, plus the five heroes.

Thats not what 90% of the reviews I've watched have said. The most common complaint, after the rulebook, is that the base version of the game doesn't come with enough minatures to actually run a good number of the scenarios/quests without proxying.

Ah, yeah, I guess a lot of the scenarios involve a ton of minis.
I haven't played it yet, as my friends aren't too interested and I've been too busy. Maybe after I move I can spend some time to figure it out...

For ~$70, that's a pretty decent game.
Thats actually less of a deal then Descent 2nd Edition... But thats not really what i'm getting at.
As it stands from what I've seen the retail retail version of Myth is an incomplete game that is going to have me looking to pickup a Kickstarter copy.

Ah, fair enough. I've only played the game a handful of times and haven't had that issue so far, but we've come close to running out.
I know that it is easy to get caught up in the hysteria of it all. Don't bother reading all the hyperbole over on BGG.
How the game functions is actually quite good,..... we are not talking about scrapping rules, or changing rules that did not work. Indeed the rule book itself was not structured very well, adn had some stuff missing,.... but they are fixing that..... and by fixing,.. they are not changing the rules of the game,... nothing is broken in the conventional sense.
they rules are just going to be more clearly stated in the new book. I've played many games, even before erratas and such came out.
The one thing that you really should have printed is the Card Reference. It clarifies most questions that you might have about card interaction., After you have played a few hands, you'll have the hang of it, and won't have to refer back to it.
As to the game being "incomplete" as a retail product,... not much more so than most of these games that are designed for you to buy more content. If you only play the game occasionally, then it has got everything that you need to have fun,.... If you are going to play a lot,.. well then you will want more enemy types and quests, and items, etc. to have a varied ongoing experience.
It is true that you can set up scenarios with the base box that it does just not have enough minis for (4 lairs on a double large tile for example), but the quests that are there only call for more than one lair very rarely,
Automatically Appended Next Post: All that said: I would not want to pay $60-$70 for a game that I'm only going to play rarely,.... so I will agree with the sentiment of wanting to get a Captain Pledge off of Ebay,..... just realize that even then,.... you won't have enough to ensure that you never have to proxy something.
Even the higher level pledges are not going to have enough stuff to handle some of the crazier setups that you could choose to have. More likely than not, if you had gotten an Apprentice Pledge, or "Double-Captain", then you would have enough to run two lairs of one type at a time,.... having enough for four lairs of one type is likely not in the cards unless you are a bit silly with your additional purchases.
The lion's share of the expansion stuff that was offered during the KS will be available at retail later this year; so if retail was your only option,... you'd have the opportunity to buy Elementals for example, should you not get your hands on an Ebay deal.
an Ebay pledge deal is still likely going to be cheaper than buying it all at a discounted on-line retailer,.... and you would get some of the little extras available to KS backers.
Agreed with Yamato for the most part. The little guys provide enough variety, but I do think they should have either included another miniboss and boss, either with minis or (to keep costs low) provided 2 sets of rules for each (i.e. the Terror could have also been a more fragile miniboss, and Yardu could have also been a boss skeleton)

Yardu being the summoning boss who's minions that he summons aren't included in the base game, correct?
I think the plan may have been for them to be in there originally,.... Maybe the retail price would have been too high.
That is the one part that really disappointed me in the base box. They should have made sweeping changes to remove those references,....gone with a different mini boss, etc.
Agreed, I think it's pretty clear that they intended to have 3 sets of enemies in the core game, considering the box art and that there are 3 categories of enemy (intelligent, instinct, undead).
I'm fine with them keeping a rule that interacts with expansions, but think they should have acknowledged it somewhere.

I hope you find one!
My two big problems with the rules, as in things that must be changed because they're dealbreakers, are 4x6 traps and treasure popping.
4x6 traps feel like they were written at a point in development when the darkness meter worked radically differently. Whoever wrote them forgot to take Loitering and the Refresh cycle into account. Needing to disarm the trap before AP hits 6 is ridiculous.
Treasure only popping when three minions die in a single attack overvalues AoE and makes the more single target heroes feels less useful. I'd much prefer a treasure meter like SDE.
Area where the game needs to be expanded is progression. "Title or new card from Story Quests and only Story Quests" just doesn't cut it.

Heres the thing about that though... The $100 price point is fairly common for boardgames these days. If they were trying to price competitivly with their closest competition (even though they have no competition) Descent 2.0 they still didn't hit that mark either, Descent 2.0 costs less and comes with a few more models.
I realise that I've been coming off as extremly negative, but that's not really my intent. This is one of the few big Kickstarters that I missed and I honestly at this point dont know if it's worth the money or not to pick a pledge level up on ebay. At some point down the line it might be the greatest game of all time, but right now the majority of the reviews are rather negative. Their main points are the rulebook, a feeling of an incomplete base game and quest lines that don't go anywhere...
I don't know how many of you guys are familiar with Tom Vassel, but he's one of the better known boardgame reviewers. Megacon flew an employ down to Flordia to teach Tom the game before he reviewed it...
I'd like to know where that came from, because I saw where they talked to Tom on the phone, and answered only a couple of questions around game play. This is the first that I'm hearing that someone flew down to show them how to play????
I am realistic, and not just a blind fan boy,..... I do think that the whole rule book thing is really embarasing,... and I do not like the choices to include all of the counters and such in the main game,.... I think it is fine to talk about expansion stuff in the book, and show the models and such,... but the tokens for all of the expansion quests gets a bit overwhelming and confusing,...
though the worst things are including the hero tokens for exclusive characters that can't be had outside of KS? Now, perhaps people might have a chance to get them through KS again,.... but my feeling is that they should only have the basic stuff in there,.... if you get a new hero, it should have its stuff with it,.... same with a quest deck,... if it requires more tokens,... then have them come with the deck.
I'm fine with not having all the quest strings in the base game,.... if they included them, they'd have to leave out thers,.... and that would make the game feel very linear (which is the exact opposite of how it is meant to be played). When you complete one chain quest, and it says to add a particular quest to your deck, you don't (in most cases) play that quest right away,.... it just gets added to your potential encounters moving forward,... I like that you will continue to encounter the same characters, and pick up on previous stuff at a later date,..... I really don't want a game that makes you play A-B-C,.... so this is a plus for me.
They should however explain this in the book,.... that not all of the further chain quests are in the box,... and that they are available in the quest expansions 1 and 2.
For me the big mistakes are with Yardu and the Souless spawn,..... and the inclusion of KS tokens. People will be vastly confused by this,... as the KS characters are not mentioned in the book,.... people who buy it off of the shelf will think that they are missing something from the box.
Hopefully a V2 box (way down the road) will be cleaned up quite a bit,.... not just a new rule book,... but shoring up some of these issues.
With all that,..... the game is really a pleasure to play,..... the 4x6 traps do take some serious skill and decision making,... I did not feel they were broken,..but I have not yet tried them all,....so I'll have to reserve my opinion.

We'll see if they get any tweaking.
Brian pointed it out in the comments on one of the Kickstarter comments.
yamato wrote: not much more so than most of these games that are designed for you to buy more content.
That's pretty much it. Games Workshop pulled something similar with their Advanced HeroQuest. Included a whole monster manual in the rulebook, and only included one Skaven sculpt.
Ideally, if you don't have the game, you should "try before you buy". Then wait until the second Myth KS, and see if it's a good value. If so, pledge, and pick up the base game and whatnot at the OLGS.
Inventory has been done. We are missing several entire runs of the wave 2 stuff. We had asked that they try to do the entire run and put some of each type into the container. It appears, they were not able to do this.
I feel compelled to point out that while this was a specific request from us, we understand their situation. They were asked to produce a years’ worth of product and get at least some of said product I to us in one shipment. The total run of minis was around 2.4 million. It was a big job.
The unfortunate part is I know we have not had a 6th container pickup. I have correspondence out to all the people I have contact to associated with the printing of the minis and the logistics of the containers.
At this point, we are looking for solutions. When we discover the whens and wheres of the last Myth shipment, we’ll decide how to proceed. We’ll convey that information to you when we know more and have decided. At this point, we are leaning towards sending what we have to Ulisses and having the missing minis shipped directly to the EU. We’ll send a person there to assist with the arrival of the last of the figures and supervise the fulfillment.
Non-EU backers
As for non-EU international backers, you’ll have to wait until the missing minis arrive here. We understand if this causes you anger. We are looking for other solutions and are open to suggestions. We have considered opening up optional shipping for non-EU international backers who desire it at an added expense. You’ll have to let us know if this is something you want and we can make arrangements.
Domestic
Domestic wave 2 will have to wait until the international orders are done. We are not splitting up orders any more.
Apologies
Finally, we want to apologize. There are little things that we didn't understand at the beginning, that have snowballed into rather large delays. We take responsibility for all the problems with the shipments. It was, and continues to be, an eye-opener.
I have thought about going into details, but I think that I'll wait and when it is all done write up a final update/post-mortem and shed some light on some of the biggest issues we ran into and where the delays actually occurred. I think it will surprise you.
Once again, we are sorry.
I'm interpreting it as the second, i.e. to mean the factory shipped what they had, and that it was short what MERCS had requested. No lost container; the factory just didn't pack or didn't have the full run when these got shipped.
So it is likely that MERCS will have to inventory everything and get a second shipment for the shortage, worse case.
Can't say I'm surprised, but this gives me more time to digest the rules.
I'm up to page 30 and everything I've read so far is gelling. So far I'm not seeing the overblown issues that everyone has, but maybe that's because all the problems are in the second half of the rulebook.
Looking forward to getting all the KS goodies though, as that will really give the game quite a bit of variety.
Hopefully they can do something about the situation for everyone outside of the US. I'm fine with waiting until the rest of the world gets their goodies.

That would work out pretty well for me, actually. I added a second Captain pledge on the PM to give to a friend for Christmas last year, all I would have to do is change the date.
Well, it's now the second time we've been told "Sorry guys, you'll have to wait before you get anything." So predictably, I'm not all that excited by their response and the inevitable additional 6+ months that it will add to getting the game. The fact that they've spun various levels of bs a few times (taxes!) also contributes to my ill feeling towards them, as does the apparently badly-written rulebook and much of the attitude displayed during MERCS.
It's pretty much become another "Christmas 2014, if you're lucky" Kickstarter.
That's true. But on the plus side, by the time you guys get your copy, there will be plenty on eBay from US and EU backers in case you want to get another copy
They did say that they're open to you guys paying shipping for what they have now for all non-US. So they're giving you the option to vote with your wallet.

I think MERCS hit the usual minefields that are the risks you take when backing a KS project:
* No rulebook or final rulebook to review before purchase.
* Delays, followed by delays, followed by extra delays.
* Bend over if you're an international backer.
Pretty much every KS I"ve backed that involved overseas production and miniatures has been delayed. Add to this how internationals pay more money and wait longer makes me skip many projects outside of my country.
If you're an international and backing the Cthulhu Wars KS... set expectations accordingly.
Salacious Greed wrote: They did say that they're open to you guys paying shipping for what they have now for all non-US. So they're giving you the option to vote with your wallet.
Pretty sure that I already paid shipping, and also pretty sure that the delays are on their end rather than mine - so I'm not sure where the "vote with my wallet" aspect really comes in. I think I might vote with my wallet by not backing or buying anything further from them instead. But it's nice of them to apparently be pulling a Sedition Wars and allow us to purchase a working rulebook as part of their next kickstarter rather than just sending me one. Yeah, I know it costs them money to do that. No, I don't give a gak. Goodwill brings in a lot more cash than unhappy customers, surely?

It may not be purposeful, but they're basically being dicks about it, which they're in a position to do since they already have my money and it's very difficult for me to get it back. I wonder what will happen come June or July - when was it exactly that they promised that they would start honouring refund requests? I wonder if they'll "no, but.." when the date hits? I'll have to check and see just how much cash I sent them. The refund might actually be a better way to go by that stage. Especially for a rulebook that will probably still have a broken rulebook. Besides, I have both Journey: Wrath of Demons and Shadows of Brimstone coming for my Dungeon Crawling fix, and I trust Flying Frog to have competent rules written up and both SoB and Journey to have some amazing figures...

Actually I think I'd have a pretty hard time talking myself into backing another one of their KS projects...
Yeah, the basic infantry is fine, as are the heroes, but I really think they should have put more variety in big baddies, and I'm sure the extra minis wouldn't add that much to the cost compared to what they'd gain from people who're happy with the core product.
Creator MERCS Miniatures about 17 hours ago
I should have an update tomorrow with answers to several of the questions you've been asking. Still waiting for a few more answers from China.
Doesn't exactly sound encouraging.
What was the exact date they gave for their ironclad guarantee about refunds?
But we also understand Kickstarter and right now you might be saying to yourself, “Here we go again…another infinitely delayed KS.” We want to reassure all backers with a guarantee. We are so confident you’ll have your game and stretch goals within five months of the original date that we will give a refund to anyone who requests their money back if we fail to deliver your pledge before June 31st, 2014.
Note the word delivered. Aside from the fact that June doesn't have a 31st, which might cause them to try and weasel it into July, it puts them in a tight spot. They have 7 1/2 weeks to get all my gak to me. Hm.. US$451. I could do a lot with that.
Alpharius wrote: There is no way everything gets delivered by the end of June.
I fully expect the 'news' from China to be 'more delays'.
I'd be shocked if everyone in the USA gets their stuff delivered by the end of June.
The ROW folks?
No way!
Your looking at a minimum three weeks on a boat... So assuming the news their waiting to hear from china is 'That the boat has sailed', your looking at the end of May for arrival in the use. Another week to get through customs. Say another week to get to their warehouse, be unpacked, sorted, inventoried and readied for shipment. Your already two weeks into June...
I probably would cancel it if I could get the full amount back. Just tired of the BS, and merc disappearing for days with no reply isn't a great sign either.

That's fair. I suppose after a year, you might not even need/want the thing you pledged for anyway!
