Here is a preview what the LVO WM trophy will look like. There will be one for 1st-3rd for each tournament along with a BIG one for the overall champion of the weekend (most tournament wins). They will be multi-depth resin toppers on a plinth base that will hold the tournament coins. They will be colored according to place and nicely weathered!

Though I'm on the fence about staying at Ballys. I was there a few years ago and it was just about the worst hotel experience I've ever had, and that includes comparing it to the 'establishments' I stayed at in Nairobi.

Agreed on the awesomeness. I met the legendary Reece and played a game against Ragnar. I remember you CSM guys but did not get matched up with any of you. Kopach getting a hard time during the awards was hilarious. At least I think we are both talking about the same event...

Check out this awesome art Goatboy made for the LVO! What we are using it for though, shall remain a secret! muahaha!
Also, I was in Vegas last week briefly and snapped a pic of the hall. It's HUGE! The pic below does it no justice. I could only get a part of it in frame, it is giant! The BAO hall was 7,000sqft, this is more than double that and it will be so awesome to see it full with gaming!
But, it has carpeted floors which is great for keeping sound levels down and for ease on the old knees! The hall is ginormous, 15,000+ square feet of what will be gaming awesomeness! Also, the hall is away from the main gambling area, so it won't be crowded which will be nice.

Reece, have you decided whether or not there will be rules adjustments (other than "No Escalation/Stronghold Assualt" and allies changes) for the Main 40K event? My local shop is making their monthly tournament an "LVO Prep Event", so I'd like to help them be sure their rules match what's going to be run.
I couldn't find this information on the FLG site yet, and the threads here, as last updated, say it's still an up-in-the-air thing. I'm mainly wondering about possible 2++ changes and other things discussed in your poll.
Thanks!
2776
Post by: Reecius
That's super cool your local is doing an LVO prep! Nice one, if you have any pics of the event and want to do a quick write up, send them my way and we will post them on FLG.
As for your rules questions, per our poll, we have the following addendum to our format (which you can see the changes reflected in the 40K packet rules and FAQ):
1.) We're not using Stronghold, Escalation or Data Slates for LVO (but we're open to changing that for future events)
2.) We're limting the amount of factions in a list to 2 (so, White Scars+ Ultramarines, or Tau+Eldar, or Inquisition+Space Wolves, but no Imperial Guard+Space Wolves+Inquisition for example).
3.) We did get a majority vote for and implemented the change of any type of 2+ save that is rerollable, is failed on the reroll of a 1, 2 or 3, not just a 1.
If you have any further questions, just ask.

Here is my person encounter. I went alone on this trip so i got the room all to myself. make the long story shot. I was suppose to be there for Conquest but got cancel last min so i change some stuff around and went there for fun.
1) I smell smoke at night. is a background smell so you can't tell what kind of smoke.
2) I was watching Lock Up on msnbc and drafting in/out and saw someone ran to the window and jump off. he/she pay no attention to me.
I chat with a staff after and he said that happen but they don't talk about it . he said if I want to change room just ask the front desk. it happen so often that the front desk knows what going on and they will not ask me why. The story goes is that 18+ is haunted 23 is the most haunted. North Tower only. He got a lot of stories on what guests encounter. O btw they never rebuild it they just remodel it and put more building and stuff.

I think that would actually be very cool if you brought out Nids to be honest. You started that huge thread about how Nids aren't all that bad, I'd love to see you back that up so that way we will actually see Nid players in RTT's. If you end up doing well that will give many motivation to bring em out and play. Also that would definitely be another testament of your generalship if you could do well with them. There is only a couple of weeks left but If you could probably get 3 matches in each week for the next coupld of weeks you should probably be able to get an idea of how to play em. I know I played my GK/SW list 2-3x a week for amonth and half straight before I settled with the list I have now and I'm lovin them.

Glad you are coming to Vegas. For the zombie game you can bring any 28mm infantry or 40mm infantry model. The plan is to have everyone make there character at home and bring with them the filled out character sheet which will go up today. If you are unable to deck your guy out at home no big deal you can do that at the event. Excited to see how people like the game.

Quick rule question for the 40k championship at LVO : what is your policy regarding Black Legion's artifacts
Do you consider that they all replace a weapon ? Or that only weapons-like artifact replace a weapon ? Or that they never replace a weapon ? Something else ?
You probably know that the ruling on those is unclear because the supplement says nothing about that, and that a lot of people have different opinion on that matter. So in doubt, I prefer to ask prior to the event.
Short version is : can I bring my DP with Spineshiver Blade and Skull of Ker'ngar ? (it's even converted so you actually see the blade and the skull).

More likely referring to vehicles getting cover saves against glancing and penetrating hits. Neither of which are caused by Grav weaponry.

Kimchi Gamer wrote: Dezstiny wrote:@Reecius How are you going to play out Grav guns during the tournament? RAW or saves allowed? What does this question mean? Aren't they AP2? Correct, but against vehicles on a 6 a Grav weapon doesn't cause a glancing or penetrating hit, so RAW no cover saves can be taken against it as cover saves for vehicles are only taken in the event of a penetrating or glancing hit. RAI I think you get the save. Be advised I plan on bringing White Scars or Eldar so I am taking the least powerful position which could potentially hurt me, I am much more of a RAI than RAW player normally and this case isn't an exception.

Too funny I think I remember the battle report in which this happend
On a side note:
"When using the Dark Excommunication psychic power, the following sections from pages 61-69 of the Chaos Daemons codex are counted as Daemonic Gifts; Ranged Weapons, Melee Weapons, Daemonic Attributes, Icons & Instruments, Hellforged Artifacts, Daemonic Rewards, Daemonic Loci, and Daemonic Psychic Powers. Additionally, anything listed as a Daemonic Gift in a unit’s army list entry is also counted. Note that Daemonic Steeds and psychic powers generated from the main rule book are not affected by Dark Excommunication"

That still doesn't answer the question.
"Cover and invulnerable saves may be taken against wounds cause by a weapon with the Graviton special rule."
Damaging a vehicle isn't the same as causing a wound.
2776
Post by: Reecius
Yes, but we already rules that you can take cover saves for vehicles, otherwise ignores cover wouldn't work on vehicles and unless you want to play against a meta of 2+ save cover Wave Serpents with no way to get around it, we have to assume wounds also applies to ap rolls.
So, in other words, yes, you get cover saves against it. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and we have turned the store into a factory! LoS blocking terrain just being pumped out rapid fire!

I have some suggestions for beerhammer.
#1 move it to Saturday night next year. Players that go 3 and 0 on Friday night have to chose between beerhammer or playing games 4 and 5 rested and not hungover. Moving it up 1 day means 8 people still have a chance to win instead of 32.
#2 Donation beers. They go into a common pool and are randomly distributed on top of whatever swill is provided..

It is time to move on and forget the old book. This is a bad idea.
Also we need to see what the new book can do in a tournament setting before we really know how bad it is. It might do well, but now we have no way of knowing.
I thought that was also the point of you having the "Best of that Army" prize so even if you have a bad codex, you do the best with it and you still win something.

What is the usual Tournament approach when it comes to a Codex being released within a month of the event?
19374
Post by: demonator76
I have seen it 2 different ways. Allow only the current codex or if it was released within 30 days using the old. To allow both is absurd.

Post by: Blackmoor
Eldarain wrote:What is the usual Tournament approach when it comes to a Codex being released within a month of the event?
In the past there was normally a 30 day grace period before the new codex is used. This was GWs policy and it was adopted by most GTs. In the last few years since GW has pulled out of tournaments it has been up to each TOs. These days there is usually not a grace period with new codexs. Adepticon is one of the exceptions who still sticks to the 30 days. Frontline Gaming events are normally early adopters and they generally do not have a grace period.
Never has anyone had an option of which 2 codexs to use.
53375

I have to agree with everyone, you cant have your cake and eat it too. Allowing the old codex is just wrong and gives extra options to nid players, while others have to work within the rules.

I'm ok with this move. I think probably the attendance of Tyranid players have drastically declined with the new book coming out. Also, with only about 1 months time to go before the tournament, I don't think many tyranid players can fully build and paint the NEW army that they wanted to bring. I know I wasn't able to.
As it's only been 1 month, I think this move was necessary in order to incentivize the tyranid players to come out. Otherwise, bugs will be a dying breed in tournament play, with only the most hardcore of players breaking out their bugs.
Or would people prefer that Tyranid players drop their beloved armies and instead, pick up armies like Tau, Eldar and Necrons to the LVO?

Here are some stats for you guys who think that the old codex is alive and kicking:
Da Boyz GT 22-Nov 120 Players 4 Tyranids 3.3% Nids
11th Co GT 11-Nov 86 Players 6 Tyranids 6.9% Nids
Feast of Blades 15-Oct 100 Players 4 Tyranids 4% Nids
Nova Open 30-Sep 223 Players 7 Tyranids 3.1% Nids
I do not think that the new codex is keeping anyone away since no one was playing it before. Also if you think the old codex can stand up to Tau and Eldar and make a difference in the standings you are wrong.
Here are the highest placing Tyranid Armies:
Da Boyz GT 59th
11th Co GT 23rd
Feast of Blades 49th
Nova Open 34th 2nd was 80th
No tyranid player even got close to the top tables so if anyone thinks that switching to to the old codex means that they can compete, you are wrong.

Allowing either versions of nids won't even make a splash in the tournament. But allowing Stronghold and Escalation would rock the tournament meta pretty drastically. It'll become an arms races of the have's and the have-not's. Have fun, Tau players, trying to survive against the might of Strength D. With nids, it's like changing out the hubcabs of a car. With Escalation+Strongholds, it's more like changing out the entire engine. Good luck with doing that and not alienating the majority of the players out there.
tomjoad wrote:If Nid player attendance was all of a sudden in jeopardy, then why not say "Old book only"? This move creates a huge potential for chicanery.
I really don't see how. The meta has changed drastically between the 2 codices. If you see more than 1 tervigon in the list, the Doom or the Swarmlord, you know its the old book. If you see multiple mawlocs, t-fexes, tyranid flyers, carnifexes and any of the new units, you know its the new book. It's very easy to differentiate army builds from the 2 editions. With the exception of dual flyrants, people are going to be running drastically different lists between the 2 editions.
As to why not say "old book only", basically the guys at Frontline put their foot in their mouth. Basically, they spoke too soon, announcing that it was only going to be the new Tyranids at the LVO before the codex actually came out. Then the codex came out and they immediately regretted it. This is their way to make amends to the Tyranid community.

But to give the Tyranid Players more a breath of options is wrong. You said in one of your podcasts Reece "We probably will allow the new nid codex, the players who run codexes are ontop of the rules right away. It doesnt matter for those who dont, they might get shocked 2months to a year"
But now you are saying they are not prepared?

BTW, LVO is not the only tournament that has done this. I believe TSHFT just last week (or maybe 2 weeks ago) allowed both the old and the new bugs in their tournament. Other tournaments have done this as well with codices that were just released before the tournament.
As for GW's policies, I say screw them. Why would you want to follow the policies of a company who is doing NOTHING to help out the tournament meta? As a matter of fact, GW is doing just the opposite and making it harder for TO's to run their tournaments instead. GW doesn't give 2 cents about about competitive gaming. Why the hell are people still looking towards them as a standard to follow?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Blackmoor wrote:Here are some stats for you guys who think that the old codex is alive and kicking:

LOL, you guys are funny.
TSHFT in Seattle just did exactly this last week and the world didn't explode.
You have to mark your list as old or new and show it to your opponent. Anyone that registers as a Nid player will be instructed this at the event just to be double sure. If you play a Nid player, just ask which book he is using. We all know the old book, some folks don't know the new book. A lot of people aren't prepared to use the new book yet, they don't have models painted.
No one is going to switch midstream as there is no reason to, the new book isn't as good as the old one. You'll see if you are playing the old or new book in the pairings too.
So once all the wet hens stop their clucking, and realize there are all of 3 Nid players at the tournament, all will be well =) Thank them for not being yet another Tau and/or Eldar player!

I have a question about the location of the Saturday night dinner.
The Hash House A Go Go has 3 locations in Las Vegas (Soon to be 4). Will it be at the one in the Quad Hotel since that one is only a couple of blocks away and within walking distance?

The recent tournament at Warhammer World had all of ZERO new Nid players, lol.
We'd like at least some!
Plus, a number of Nid players have reached out to me and said they aren't ready to play the new book due to not being familiar with it, not having models ready, etc.
It really, really isn't a big deal. At all.

@Thread
Guys, the overall state of the Meta, or testing the new Nids (or any new army) isn't the point of the LVO.
The point of the LVO is to provide a fun gaming convention for the people paying money to come.
The new Nids came out at an awkward time for our event. Not everyone dives right in to a new codex the way we do. Some folks do and are excited to paly the new stuff like LaJollaGard, some don't.
I have actually had a number of veteran Nid players, like 10 years+, ready to sell their armies and move on to Warmahordes or DzC they're so bummed out about the new book.
So, in the sake of fairness and providing a FUN environment for the greatest number of people, we're letting Nid player choose to use the new or old book. I will bet money it will be such a minor deal that hardly anyone notices. I will be shocked if we even break double digit numbers for Nids.
And so what if the old books does well? It will be the last hurrah for the Ol' Bugs if so, and good on em. It'd be no different than if IG come out before Adepticon but after their cutoff date and someone with the old book wins.

A question about the LVO/BAO Crusade mission. Since you always have 3 objectives and you place them after you choose deployment zones, doesn't that give a huge advantage to the person who wins the dice roll for table sides?
I know that you have it so that you place the objectives outside of your deployment zone, but that is meaningless. What always happens (and I mean always) is that 2 objectives get placed right on the deployment zone line right in front of the first players castle. The other player who lost the dice roll for sides only gets to place one objective on his deployment zone line. That means that one player will not have to move and they get 2 objectives, and the other player only gets one. That means that one player has to cross 24" of board just to contest that mission, and the other has to do nothing but sit there and shoot the crap out of his opponent to win.
Does that seem fair?
So, do you know who can cross the board and contest those objectives? Seer Councils and Screamer Stars, the 2 armies you want to discourage, you are encouraging.

Bravo to Reece and co for making the best calls possible in a crazy turbulent environment.
I am bummed I will not be making it ... Tony and I bandied it about for some time, but it's just coming amidst too much stuff for me (also, I didn't know about being able to play old nids till just now).
Allan - maybe not best to be carping on missions at the 11th hour ... at this point learn 'em, get ready best you can for 'em, and go kick ass and have a blast - 256'ers are a rare breed of GT, and it's exciting to have another one going on this year ...

Carping eh?
I just learned about this problem and it has a simple solution: Place objectives before the roll for table sides.
And yes, I know what the book says to do, but that is horrible for tournaments.

Post by: Dezstiny
@Blackmoor
Tbh that is actually what I normally do. Place objectives before choosing sides/it normally comes out even distribution of some sort as if someone does put 2 on one side and doesnt win that side well.... that was ur gamble and it didn't pay off.

@Blackmoor
You sure are taking this seriously for someone that said they wasn't taking the event seriously, lol!
Our system is EXTENSIVELY play-tested. Like, hundreds of practice games. We find the system works very fairly due to forcing players to distribute objectives out of their deployment zones.
If you lose a game because of that, specific instance in that, specific mission, i will buy you a beer, bud!
@Kronk
Thanks!
@Hot Sizzle
Yes, you bring the objectives and you can number your Scouring Objectives as 1,2,3. We don't score them the way the book does. Just be sure you do not mark them in a way so that you can tell which is which as it could appear as if you are trying to cheat to your opponent.

Im still confused about your missions. There are a total of ten points. SO I can get this clear lets take scenario 2.
Lets say for purge the alien I kill 6 to his 3, The means I get 3 points for winning Purge the Alien, but he has more in the Objectives, meaning he got 4 pts. But I have all the other 3 bonus to his none. leaving me with 6 for the scenario. You dont count the objectives nor the total killed? Just the set 10 points?
69307
Post by: Dude_I_Suck
Think of them like 2 different games being played at once. It is exactly like you said in your example, you'd get 6, he'd get 4. If you both had warlord and linebreaker, but you had first blood, you'd tie 6-6.

2776

@Fists
Yes, Marines can ally with Marines per their book.
No diagrams of terrain, sorry, we have such a wide variety of types of terrain that a diagram wouldn't do much good, honestly. And having a diagram wouldn't fix anything if it were a shooting range, anyway =P
The layout we are going for with each table is 2, large, LoS blocking pieces of terrain on each table, roughly 4 pieces of area terrain, and small pieces of varying types of terrain to fill gaps and close firing lanes.
We've been working damn near around the clock on terrain, i think folks will be very pleased when they see the tables =)

The link above *did* provide a link to a "Pro Tip section", which is recommendations on attending tourneys (Allan's link goes to the same place as the one I provided ) . Can't find the 'Pro tip' thing now, though ...
There is a section, or there was, next to the "'Nid lists that don't suck" links that talked about the benefits and detractions of Display boards. One statement saying that with the tables being end to end, there'd be no room for display trays.
Personally, I say bring your board for the paint judging portion if your army is likely to garner a prize. Even though the DB is not on the list to score points, it should help, as I'm sure you well know.

Maybe post a coulpe minutes of video showing the process? It'd give players an appreciative idea of the level of work that goes into such a big effort in terrain.

Am I too early to be asking this?
Interested to know how any Tyranids - if present - faired.
What was the top 20 like?
Same old Tau and/or Eldar variants or any surprises we might ponder over?
The ruling on 2+ rerolled saves, how was that? Did it function as planned or did it inbalance the field in a diferent direction? Were there Daemons in the top 20 after this change?
Thanks for any replies.

That is amazing!
So if anyone wants my ticket for the 40k doubles I can't do it anymore. My buddy has a funeral to go to. Also his 40k champ tourney ticket is available too.

Why? Does she have a concert that weekend....or will she be in the LVO as well?

Another suggestion for food if you don't mind a little walking is Planet Hollywood. It is the next property over from Paris and there is a Mall with quite a few places to eat.

For those attending the LVO, I'm in a bit of a bind. What I want is to BORROW 4 Devastator Grav Centurions that are either painted or I can paint myself. Due to the narrow time range I have to work with, I'm looking at meeting someone in the Seattle region or at the LVO (in which case the Cents would have to be already painted).
I am going to the LVO this weekend, and I ordered these models back in December and they haven't come in yet. I would rather avoid spending ~$150 on models that I already own. Thus, I'm willing to work out whatever trade/loan would make you feel comfortable, as long as it's reasonably short of the cost of just buying the models myself.

Hi, quick question: when is the latest you can register for the Doubles Tournament on Sunday ? I might play with a buddy but theres also a reasonable chance I'll head out drinking after the 40k tournament and be in no shape for another 3 games of 40k on Sunday. Will we be able to register Sunday morning ? Or Saturday evening ? Is it likely this event will sell out ? Thanks!

I guess now is good a time as any to finalize my list before heading off tomorrow. Can't wait to see everyone.

I just moved to Vegas but haven't gotten my army shipped in yet. Besides spectating, what else is going on at the LVO?
