The rate hasn't been updated on the site yet, but it will be so on MONDAY. If you already booked, you will be credited at the event for the difference! And that is for Friday and Saturday night.
We've got your backs!
This is going to be an awesome event, really just fantastic.
Less than an hour in and we've already sold a ton of tickets! Don't wait if you want to go.
I vote for Presidents Day weekend with the events Sat and Sun with Monday for travel/recovery. That was a traditional Vegas weekend in my Youth (well before I had kids...) and having that Monday free to travel etc is key.
As stated in the initial post, we haven't settled on a hotel yet, I am still negotiating the final contract. It will be on the strip, though.
@Whitedragon
We'll make sure it is a spectacle of an event =)
@Overwatch
We were thinking that, too. Having Valentine's there is a bit of a bummer, but I think it can work due to the extra day off for travel.
Plus, we're gettign quotes for really affordable rooms that weekend. It will make coming to the event so much easier.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also to clarify any potential misconceptions, the February weekend is not significantly more expensive. The flights are a bit more, but the rooms are actually cheaper than in March.
Definitely President's Day. Adepticon is a moving target, until the dates are actually announced - it's been as early as the last weekend in March, and as late as the end of April - and I can't be traveling twice in a month for 40k, regardless of whether I can talk the wife into coming to Vegas with me.
Thanks for the suggestion, Janthkin, forgot to add that.
We're leaning towards President's day weekend also because the rooms are cheaper than in March, it gives more time to get there and away and as you said, it's further from Adepticon as you noted.
Awesome! I have a feeling from the feedback we've gotten that this is going to be massive. We are moving the BAO because we see so much potential for this to go big time.
Reecius wrote: Awesome! I have a feeling from the feedback we've gotten that this is going to be massive. We are moving the BAO because we see so much potential for this to go big time.
Might I suggest moving the BAO back to August? This is by no means a purely selfish recommendation since I have all of August off.
OK, looks like we are on track to hit our mid May goal of getting contracts signed and deposits paid to officially green light Vegas!
I am so pumped about this, we've been talking about it and planning it for ages.
March is off the table due to some other large events shifting dates. We are going to be in February for sure, looks like early to mid Feb.
I am negotiating some sweet rates on rooms, food, booze, etc. And we will have some organized events for everyone to meet one another, make friends and party it up in Vegas! This event is going to be a total blast.
Reecius wrote: August doesn't work as that month as the ATC, Golden Throne and NOVA. August is a high traffic month.
We're looking at some options, but as of now the BAO will likely be in July or early May.
The calendar is getting packed with events and new ones are launching every year.
For the BAO the best months might be Nov.
There are a lot of events almost every month these days. I think there is only Dec and Jan where there is not much going on.
Maybe in October where you only have the Feast of Blades tournament (but it is starting to be a large event in the west) and you are close to Duelcon.
November might be good because you are far enough away from the other Frontline events, and you are competing against East Coast events only (Da Boyz GT and the 11th Co tournament).
When is Comikazi again?
That is a good suggestion, but Comikaze got moved to November this year. We have a verbal commitment from Anime Expo which is July 6th and 7th. No contract yet, but I think it is a green light.
It looks like we will run the BAO in the summer time, not certain on the exact date, yet.
We are just about ready to pull the trigger and using my Jedi mind tricks, I think we have negotiated a pretty bad ass deal! I won't tip my hat on specifics until the contract is signed and executed, but this is looking to be pretty epic!
I will say this: sweet hotel, on the strip, and some very cool non-gaming events to be enjoyed, too.
Frankie and I are getting super juiced for this bad boy to finally take shape!
Contract is being written as I type this! We're looking at February 7th through the 9th! By week's end I anticipate the Las Vegas Open being a certainty!
This is going to be epic, I already have a ton of manufacturers and personalities on board! I seriously can't wait to fully launch this bad boy, it is going to be so fun!!
In consideration of the BAO, what's the weather like May/June?
I know that S.F. actually has some sort of Chaos/Warp weather pattern, cool & wet, unlike the rest of California, but what about Antioch? Will the Barn be feasible further into the year?
After some of the issues we had with the Barn this year, we're 99% certain we won't be going back there.
We are waiting to declare a date for the 2014 BAO as we may be teaming up with another event, but that is still up in the air.
It is almost a certainty that we will be in a hotel for the BAO this year. And the Bay Area does have really weird weather, you are right. San Francisco is almost always overcast, cool and damp. You go over the bridge and through the tunnel to the East Bay and you get "typical" California weather: sunny, warm, dry.
As soon as we have more details on the where and when of the BAO 2014, I will be sure to let the community know.
I am in California plenty, if this gets nailed on ill definitely show up in Vegas, I fething love the place and it will combine my love of drink and excess with gaming.

I thought that same thing, but flights and rooms are significantly more expensive on holiday weekends. Switching to the weekend before President's day makes the event a lot more affordable and a lot less crowded, too. The hotels fill up those weekends and it might actually be hard for some people coming to even get a room! We decided to go earlier to make it more affordable, less hectic and because it gave us more options on what ballrooms were actually available to rent.
@Mattyrm
We have the contract in hand, I am just negotiating the last final details. I anticipate we will have it signed and executed with deposit paid today or Monday.
gak's going down!! haha, so prepare to get both your drink and game on!
You should! This is going to be our biggest, best event to date! We are seriously pulling out all the stops this year and are already working on it pretty intensely, 10 months out!
Im pretty sure your some type of devil in disguise. You just said VEGAS AND WARHAMMER in the same sentence.
Im down already 100%, just as long as one of those side events is about 15 minutes of cards with you so i can earn enough to commission you out on a few pieces
Im not sure what gave you such a brilliant idea but for real. BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you kindly, sir! We've been working on this for a long time and it feels good to have it come to fruition.
And yes, we can play cards and yes, you will probably whip my ass because I play Poker WAY too aggressively and always loose my money super fast, haha!
We are super pumped for Vegas, this is going to be awesome. We just signed the contract and are just waiting for them to send it back and we will make the big announcement!
I stayed here recently and got a huge suit for 80$ a night. Its old, has big rooms, and can't compete with the new hottness but still right in the thick of it. Good choice.
Yeah, the new Hotels are absurdly expensive. I called the Cosmopolitan for a quote, hahahaha, to rent the ballroom for 3 days at way less space than Ballys was $150,000!!!
So unless you guys want tickets in the $500 range, didn't think that was going to work out
OverwatchCNC wrote: Natalie is already on board. Vegas is an easy sell, we'll see you there Reece, keep us posted on when this goes up for sale!
You weren't kidding... I may have convinced my wife to travel with me for this as well haha. All I said was "hey wanna go to Vegas so I can play with toys and you can spend money? " and there was a resoundig yes...why can't everything go that easy, although now I guess it's a matter of saving up.
Great news! I am planning to be over there by February, so Im 90% sure I'll be coming along.
Actually, feth it.. make it 100%. I've just sent the long haired colonel (missus) a warning order, and even if we haven't moved back the the States by then (waiting on paperwork, I made her live in Yorkshire for the last 5 years!) I'll take some vacation and feth off over to Vegas for a week.
Put me down for twenty gallons of ale and a $20 Burrito at the NASCAR cafe.
Stayed at Bally's last year for Memorial Day weekend. It's perfect for this. Rooms were nice and really good prices, and it's pretty much smack dab in the middle of the Vegas strip so it's a great central location.
Really excited about this Vegas GT.. should be pretty reasonable to drag other east coasters out there.
I am in California plenty, if this gets nailed on ill definitely show up in Vegas, I fething love the place and it will combine my love of drink and excess with gaming.
Haha, no doubt! We learned our lessons from growing too fast at the BAO. We already have over a dozen volunteers committed to helping keep everything running smoothly.
Don't confuse Reece with the...entertainers...to be found once you have actually arrived in Vegas. I assume Reece prefers his money via PayPal, rather than slipped into his clothing.
I really hope i can get the money together to go. Me and a friend agreed to shack up ith maybe 1 other guy,
Getting down there will be a major pain even if I do have my License. I checked the train....Long ride, 29 hours, Although im not sure if that is round trip
We are finalizing the format now, tickets will be up for sale at the end of this month!
We have people coming in from New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Canada, all over the states, we're getting a huge positive buzz for this one, it is going to be epic!
Events to be enjoyed will include:
40K Championships
Fantasy Championships
Warmahordes Championships
40K Doubles
Malifaux 2nd ed tournament
Heavy Gear demos and tournament
40K Narrative
40K Beerhammer!
Painting tutorials
Pub Crawl
Organized dinner
and more!
I will keep this thread updated as we prepare to put tickets up for sale!
Hey Reece, let us know if we need to book our rooms under the LVO when the time comes if you're on the hook for a minimum number of rooms. I have a gambling/drinking problem so Ceasars ie. Bally's comps me 4 nights every quarter, I'll use them some other time if it matters.
MikeFox wrote: Sadly I have a residence in Vegas to stay at, but it seems Ill be attending!
I'm in a similar dilemma: stay at a friend's and save dinero, or stay at Bally's and save the commute? Either way, I'm going to have to look at dates for a few festivals I might be submitting for. February is suddenly a packed month for me.

I am definitely in for Heavy Gear! I expect a Dreadball or Bloodbowl tournament. Hoping other games like Wreck-age, Kaosball, Drake and Kings of War will have a presence.
Man this would be such a sweet event to go to!! Im looking at ticket prices and it isn't too bad. about $250 round trip.
The hotel prices are pretty up there though. I was thinking coming in on the 6th and leaving the 10th. When would things be wrapping up? Is it worth staying the night of the 9th? Or maybe catch a late flight out?
Tickets go up for sale at 12:01 AM, PST tonight, guys!
If you want to go ahead and reserve your room at Bally's, you can follow this link (the page takes a while to load for some reason): https://resweb.passkey.com/go/SBFLG4
or call this number: 1-800-358-8777

Dude, you've seen me drink. You know I'm not anti-drinking.
Plus, it'll be fun.
Or it'll degenerate into a drunken rant about how much I hate this game and will be fun for other people to watch. If that happens, somebody tape it. I've never drunk enough to actually get drunk(not for lack of trying, either) and my wife wants to see it.
MikeFox does have some AWESOME painted minis, he won best painted at Anime Expo and got Second at the BAO!
@Platuan4th
Oh I know, buddy, we've shared a beer or three! haha, I just don't want anyone to feel pressured to drink is all. Purely voluntary for safety, ethics and liability reasons.
@Thunderingjove
Different nights! Haha, it will take a constitution check at -1 for each night though, I am sure!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and tickets are moving a a pretty damn brisk pace! Definitely don't wait!
I honestly have no idea how long tickets will last. Sometimes we get a big surge in the beginning and then again at the end, but this is a really hotly anticipated event, I would not be surprised if it continued selling at this pace and we sold it out early.
@OverwatchCNC
If yous wife wants to come in the Con or participate in the social events, she will need a badge. If she plans on doing her own thing, no. The only exceptions we're making to the con badge rule is for kids under 12 years of age.
See you there, buddy! You bringing the Flying Circus?

Cool we will probably pick up a badge for her too then. Not sure what I will be bringing yet to be honest. I really want to get my HH era Salamanders done at some point and actually use them but we'll see. I will probably end up bringing whatever army I have painted and foam for transporting! I do enjoy playing the Nurgle Circus a lot...
Reecius I think you missing an opportunity here. I think you do a grudge match between Dugg and Blackmoor, and do it Vegas style. Allow people to wager on the game. You could do some fun stuff like wager on who won the roll to go first, who got first blood, or whatever. I would incorporate into a charity event. Half the money wagered goes to a charity of the winner’s choice. All in good fun!
And we can't wait to have you, Jay! Going to be great fun.
you could go one step further and and have a huge "sports book" for the tournament like they do for PGA Tour events. Place wagers on who will win what awards etc. Or do all Internet celebrity grudge matches round 1 and let people place bets. Just don't ask me to do any of the leg work
C'MON!?!?! I can't hold Grudges, they are to heavy for my bad back and I'm to old to remember I even had a grudge. I will leave all that nonsense to you youngsters Mr. Copper Waddle. ;-)
@Reecius - Not only will I Step Up I will set aside my walker to Dance all over your attempts to stand toe to toe with my Skillz. IT'S A 40k DANCE OFF!!! :p
I'm so glad we are all on the same Team and still talking smack publicly about each other. HAHA! ZeroComp!!!
Hey everyone, tickets are still moving right along. 40K has passed the 1/3 full mark and is well on the way to 1/2 full out of a potential 256 players!
We're still way out from the event and this is on track to sell out way early so definitely, definitely don't wait on getting those main event tickets!
Fantasy is 25% full and Beerhammer and the Pub Crawl are really popular already as is the Zombie Survival game!
I will get the word out to our crew for the fantasy side, but its going to be rough since we will have just come back from Waaghpaca in Wisconsin the week prior. You might want to contact the Reno crew and tap into the Sacramento, Redding, and Phoenix crowds for more people.
This is gonna be great, the buildup here is making me even more impatient than I already was. Now I just need to figure out how to transport daemons via plane, otherwise I'll have to bring something else. Luckily, as you pointed out, I have 7 months to do, but also, unluckily, it is 7 months of waiting. It was so much easier to go to your events when I was down in SD.
We haven't determined the exact pubs yet, I was waiting to get a better feel for how many people would come and then negotiate drink specials, etc. Any and all recommendations are appreciated though, and I will certainly look those bars up, thanks!
It will be classy guys, no worries. I am going to be leading it and I will be drinking a minimum. I am taking my responsibility to ensure everyone has fun but also stays safe, seriously. Don't worry guys, it will be a blast and totally suitable for wives and GFs.
And grab them tickets! We're selling them every day and 40K is going to hit half full soon at this pace.
We do allow FW, but that new Tau Riptide is flippin Bonkers, that is the most OP thing I have ever seen! haha, we will wait to see what the official rules are for it are. I wrote FW asking them to please tone that thing down as that is like, unbelievably over the top OP.
We'll see what the official rules are but as it stands, that thing is broken as broken can be. We may have to introduce a ban list as much as I hate to say that.
We'll have to wait and see the official rules, but as of right now, we have no restrictions on FW.
Im guessing Experimental rules are not allowed? If so that makes sense. We are basically playtesting for them.
But I doupt the official rules will be out by then.
Yeah, it is a beautiful model, but by the Emperor that is outrageously over powered. That one model, as is, puts out more firepower than the entire heavy support section of most armies, and with some marker lights it won't miss and it will ignore cover. It's obscenely over the top, I don't what they're thinking.
Plus T7 with 6 wounds and a 4++ to shooting? And in the Heavy slot so you can take normal Riptides, too? Yeah....
The only thing you can say in it's defense is that it isn't a JetPack MC and can't shoot flyers of snap fire, but still, with 60" range that thing will destroy a unit per turn, every single turn without exception and in return is incredibly durable.
We'll see what the official rules are but as of now that is straight up out of control and we won't allow it.
O.o I just read the rules. Dear god. And if you get the nova charge off you can fire twice. 4 large blasts of AP3. Thats like 900 points of leman russ tank worth of AP3 goodness. Jaws of the World Wolf it, quick!
Yeah, it's fething insane. It will get TWELVE strength 8 hits against every vehicle hit...WTF?!
A unit of cavalry, jump/jet packs, beasts, etc. will be hit by effectively EIGHT strength 7 AP3 large blasts that will be in all likelihood ignoring cover and won't miss, maybe even twin linked?!?! Hahaha, that is absolutely stupid.

I have a feeling it might go down in power in some form. Its like that Landspeeder that was experimental and was like 100 pts.
No, that Land Speeder was 75pts before it got toned down! Hahaha, the same as a normal Land Speeder but about 10x better.
Yeah, I sincerely hope it gets toned down. As it is there is no way we will allow that. Everything else has been roughly equal to what is in the game now, if not significantly weaker, but this is just insanely over the top.
Yes, there will for sure be Demos of Malifaux 2nd ed by one of the game designers, and Heavy Gear. We in all liklihood will have more, but for now those are the two main games that will be officially demod.
Because this XV107 suit will dominate any other build if the experimental rules are right. It will down the council in a turn if you fail your GoTN roll. The fateweaver will die after turn one if you put him on the board.
And their is also some debate on using fateweaver re roll while he is in reserve. Where do you weigh in on this Reecius since I believe you will be the TO?
Also I think people will understand a band list on some forgeworld models.
Oh well then in that case, if you can out cheese them then I guess it's all good
Just pray you go first! That single model would wipe out the entire Seer Council in a single shot, easily, if you aren't juiced up.
@Masos
I am the head TO yes, and I typically make the final call on rules arbitration. And this model will not be allowed as is, I will tell you that now with total certainty.
Masos wrote: Yeah i cant agree with grant theft on this.

I disagree, It sets a bad precedence if you ban certain models. It opens the door to where you are forced to bring certain models that everyone deems "Fair" suddenly you may not be able to bring Heldrakes or Vendettas or or the magical flying sparkling bird.
I am of the opinion that TOs should allow you to build the army you wish within the rules. but that is my opinon.
And Grant, Ill just bring some Buck Shot for that Deel council.
Trust me, this is an old, old, old argument and we've been around and around a million times on this subject. I understand your stance, and share it, but this is just WTF over the top no way, no, no, no over powered.
@Blackmoor
Of course you would, you don't like FW in tournaments and this would strengthen your argument.
I reallly hope they change them somewhat, Because it would be a Shame if an awesome looking model got banned. But I think just making a few tweaks, like the gun does not allow it to fire twice. Or they are 2 small blasts that get Novad into bigger blasts. I think removing the 4 blasts will go along way to making this better. Im a Tau player and even Im sickened by what it can do.
Yeah, they can't have play tested this yet. I mean, it literally has the firepower of half a dozen normal blast weapon tanks, it's absurd, plus it is incredibly difficult to kill.
We'll see how it pans out with the final rules though, for now we're just left picking our jaws off of the ground! haha
I just looked at those rules, and cried a little. Good bye to anything other than hordes. But wait, they have fire warriors for those... Dang. That definitely needs some tweaking to give the opposing team a shot.
I got a better idea, Print shirts that say "Yeah, I Brought a R'Varna. Im that Guy" And give it to anyone who brings one, and require they wear it. We may be shamed, but we can use that model
You don't need a banned list just state experimental rules like the Rvarna won't be allowed. That's a logical way of dealing with it and hopefully its full official printed rules won't be so crazy.
I highly doubt that the rules would be finalized by LVO anyways. Forgeworld seems to take forever to make experimental rules final. I'd imagine this would hold especially true since they are focusing on the HH series.
Reecius wrote: Hahaha, what about for those who know no shame! =P
There should be a new USR for these type of people. I shall call it:
And They Shall Know No Shame.
Boomstick wrote: You don't need a banned list just state experimental rules like the Rvarna won't be allowed. That's a logical way of dealing with it and hopefully its full official printed rules won't be so crazy.
The problem is, come LVO time, those rules may no longer be experimental. And judging from FW tendencies, usually they don't end up changing their "experimental rules". Rather, they just end up adjusting the costs.
Blackmoor wrote: It is nice to see that Forge World is keeping up with the times and making broken Riptides for Tau and the Hornet for Eldar.
Well that should make you happy though right?
I think if we end up having to create a list of banned FW units it is just easier to not have FW at tournaments. Creating a banned list introduces so many more complications plus a ban list is just a nicer way of saying Comp. Then again you know my stance on this issue already Reece!
I am really looking forward to this. I plan on booking the flights this month, and will be reserving the room this week. That reminds me I need to buy the Con Badges for both Natalie and myself... Well my 40k tournament ticket is bought at least so that's the important part taken care of at least.
I have been talking to the folks at Forge World about this. I told them I have been a staunch champion of their products and that this model is just way out of line.
They told me they take all feedback seriously and were very responsive.
So, please write them and tell them that this model is way over the top and if enough of us do so, they will listen.
Seriously, if this matters to you speak up! Let them know we all love the model and want to use it but as is it is way to crazy.
@Boomstick
Yeah, we don't allow experimental rules, never have. I reacted emotionally a bit (obviously) and I think if we all take action we can prevent this form becoming too much of an issue and continue to have fun using FW.
@Evertas
See you there! Let your people know that Fantasy is approaching half full too, and we can't expand, it is going to be full!
Hey, positive note, it can't make jetpack moves, it isn't a jet pack MC. Doesn't balance it out, but still. My email is out. I love that you guys use FW Reece. The really depressing thing about the east coast is they don't allow it (I don't run any, but I like to see a little variation).
Curses, why do I read these things so late? I would have loved to attend this with a buddy of mine.. but alas too late. Can't make a Vegas trip without tons of disposable income, too much gambling to be had.
Hope you guys are planning a 2015 LVO... then I'm down.
Though I won't be able to make the LVO this year, I don't think it's entirely a bad thing banning certain units that effectively 'break' the game. I also don't really see the need for Forgeworld at tournaments anymore, since the original reason of including them was the balance issues with fliers in early 6th edition that has since been (mostly) resolved.

Dear Forge World,
I am a big fan of all of you products and I enjoy all of your models and rules. I just love the rules for the new Tau XV 107 R'Varna Battlesuit and hope you make them official as soon as possible. I can’t wait to buy 3 of those awesome models, and maybe more as Christmas presents for my friends!
I don't use and have never used thud guns, I don't even think they are all that great in todays meta.
The fact that they have things like the Seer Council and Screamer Star/ Fate Weaver it is pretty crazy to point the finger at FW in todays game and say that they have broken units.
That said, I'm not hear to debate unit strengths. Reecius and the guys will post the rules of the Tournaments and everyone should bring the Army they want to play. Zero Comp boys, bring whatever TOYS you want to play with, under the rules of the tournament, and bring the PAIN! ...And Whiners beware!
Budzerker wrote: MTG (a way tighter tournament format) bans things all the time.
MTG rarely bans things in the main tournament format (Standard) and only when a preponderance of the evidence shows that no other option is reasonable, and only when a great many experts have weighed their opinions and debated the merits of any actions. Making bans has to have the confidence of the community that they are being done only because the greater health of the game requires it. If bans are perceived by the community at large to be unnecessary or random they undermine players belief that TOs/game designers actually know what they are doing and will make players hesitant to make purchases, for fear that whatever they buy will be disallowed in a month or so.
Also, and I have a lot I could say (but won't) about this, MTG can make bans in part BECAUSE it is a tight tournament game. If GW or the TOs could make WH40K as tight as Magic, it would open a world of doors for comp to be added to the game in a reasonable and workable way. Because 40K has soooo many other issues, though, adding comp is probably not the best way to improve the tournament format.
This model is just so insanely over the top I felt that action needed to be taken.
And yeah, with the insane stuff in the game like Screamerstars, Seer Councils, Quad Riptides, etc. etc. etc. Forgeworld doesn't do much to upset that. Those units "break" the game if that is even an accurate thing to say.
Doug is the only person to win a GT with any FW units so far that I have heard of, honestly. Correct me if I am wrong there, but I have heard of no others.
And our events are geared towards providing a FUN, fair environment. It is fun to use all of your toys and our data shows that the majority of the people who play in our events agree. If that ever changes, we will change too. An overwhelming majority of folks said they enjoyed having FW and, there was a move from the negative to the positive after our events. That to me says all I need to know about it.
Let me be clear here. "Experimental" rules should never be allowed in a tournament, especially and Major GT. Would you allow an experimental 7th Ed rule set in a 6th ED Tournament? No of course not. Once the battle suits rules get printed in an IA book with the 40k Aprooved stamp then it should be allowed in a FW tournamont and/or then the TOs call, but allowing clearly stated "Experimental" rules in a large GT would be bad.
I think any debate about if it is or isn't OP as it stands right now is irrelevant, as to allowing it in a GT, with a stamp of Experemental rule on it.
That said I'm sure it will get down graded some once it gets printed in a Book but it will still be strong and at least a little OP.
Yeah, they are going to make it AP 2 and to balance it out, limit the range to 60".
Anyway, if the multiple hits and double fire are tone down, it should be fine. As it stands, the stats+damage output are too much when you consider it can ignore cover potentially.
We've never allowed experimental rules, so no worries there.
@Adam
I am agree 100%, just take away the damage multiplication and it's not so bad. Make the NOVA charge an increase in strength, like the Ion cannon, and it's fine. Still really damn powerful, but not so insane as it is now.
Just take a plasma siphon from a GK detachment and laugh. Unless they roll a hit, then cry, cry uncontrollably. I doubt the official rules will be out for it in the next couple months anyways. Tomb stalkers took forever to get an approved stamp on their rules.
So my ride and the person I was going to share a room with isnt going :( I guess it will be the Train for me. Is it possible you guys will set things up so people can talk for room sharing
Reecius wrote: We'll see what the official rules are but as it stands, that thing is broken as broken can be. We may have to introduce a ban list as much as I hate to say that.
We'll have to wait and see the official rules, but as of right now, we have no restrictions on FW.
Thought about sigging the first line (just giving you a hard time)
But seriously, while everyone's "broken" line is different, as it's subjective... I'm just really glad to see you will at least consider banning something put out by FW if it's insane.
This post is not meant sarcastically, it is genuine... sometimes people stand by lines in the sand even if they clearly don't make sense, and I'm glad to see that you wouldn't be doing so if those rules were made official / final.
Im not against banning it, Besides I might not even getting it What Im against is the prinicibal that we can cherrypick certain units that are too OP. Because If we do I go a nice long list of things I do not like
I do too, but you start banning CODEX entries because YOU don't like them, then they will fill the void with other things that you in turn won't like. People will then petition for those to get banned, and the cycle continues. I run daemons, and I don't like fateweaver, but that doesn't mean I want him banned. I highly doubt any banned lists will occur in any GT, those kind of limits are for FLGS.
I have a serious question about the Hotel room, When I go to book there are only 2 bed rooms. What If I just want a 1. Is that possible under your thingie?

So... you're not against banning it, but you don't want anything banned. Honestly, you can't have it both ways, those two things are incongruent
It sounds like you ascribe to the "line in the sand" mentality of "Don't ban anything, ever". Fantasy gave up on this a long time ago... almost every major tourney banned a handful of things that were deemed broken by the vast majority of players (folding fortress, teclis, and a few other things... power scrolls sometimes as well, before GW recognized how insane they were and changed them themselves).
Anyway, just thought those 2 posts of yours were intersting back-to-back . I'm guessing what you were getting at is that, IF it was banned, you'd like to add a whole bunch of things to the list. But that's not how these things are done. There has to be a really good consensus before something is banned... in fantasy, the only high elf builds you would ever see at an event included Teclis, and he was absurdly broken. Easy fix, banned... and all of a sudden you get to see a reasonable variety of high elf lists again.
Riptides are already one of the most powerful units in the game, if FW puts out a super-powerful mondo version of it... there's plenty of reason to consider banning it. Whereas, there is much less reason to consider banning normal Riptides. The difference is pretty obvious in an actual, real-life conversation rather than on the internet, imo... but I understand that this conversation will get dragged into "Why not codex units?" regardless of the obvious difference.

Let me put my completly confusing ideal up. I it stays they way it is, Ban it, Along with other forge world units, Fine by me. But don't make a list of units that people consider overpowered units and, because everyone has a different Idea of Overpowered to them. Like the new sisters gun that Auto-perils psykers. I might not consider that OP, but Deamons will. And Bias, no matter the person will seep through. The reason being that it will snowball into "OMG, Heldrakes are OP,Ban them" and someone will listen, not my Friend cant bring his customheldrake to show off on the table. Does that clear it up? I say make it a zero-sum tournament, not "I dont like this and This" tournament
There's no need to quote the whole post if it's right above yours, hotsauce

I just don't understand this still. How can you say "If it stays the way it is, ban it" and then follow that up with "But don't make a list of units that people consider overpowered".
Making such a list is exactly how you figure out what might need to be banned... and imo, when in doubt you don't ban something.
But you'd get pretty universal "Yays" on things like thudd guns, this new Tau insanity (if the rules go final as they are), and maybe a handful of other things. In the past, the list would've been different as FW fixes things, but it's pretty easy to point out what is insane right now. Also, posted last page:
Budzerker wrote: Even Wargamescon said they would ban thudd guns and a few other OPFW items for next year.
I know Reecius is sick of this discussion, but when even Reecius is saying he might have to ban something, you know it's batgak crazy.
Thudd Guns, the FW Tau battlesuit if it goes final as-is... it'd be a short list, and everyone would be happier for it (or almost everyone). There's a reason this conversation isn't going away, and it won't until either GW/FW fixes the rules for these few units, making the discussion moot, or events like this make a simple fix and ban the handful of extreme offenders until GW/FW do fix them.
It's really not hard, or extreme to fix! And again, I know Reecius is sick to death of this conversation, but when even he has to consider banning something... well, there's been a bit of a sea change . There's absolutely nothing wrong with excluding a few FW units that haven't been updated, or that are just crazy. In the past, it might've been a Dreadclaw. In the present, it's Thudd guns or this newcomer. It's an easy fix, and lets everyone have their cake (using lots of fun FW units) and eat it too (not have to deal with the insanity that is the experimental rules of this Tau unit, or a whole line of thudd guns, etc).
But then just ban forgeworld, Or ban one thing from eevery army. If not the players of the armies who contains those banned units will feel that it is unfair "Oh, I cant bring my thuddguns but he can bring his contemptor with ares cannons, how is that fair" I say make a blanket statement if you do ban something, to make it fair.
What do you mean a single room? Hotel rooms cost the same if they are singles or doubles.
If you are talking about finding a roomate it is still aways away in February. Most people are still making plans and figuring out what they are doing for travel arraignments and looking at rooming with friends.
Even if you do get a roommate now there is a good chance that something will come up and they will cancel between now and then anyways. That is why you are better off waiting until after the New Year when people start to firm up their plans, and find out that the roommate that they thought that they have is not going.
I am shocked that people want to raise the point limit up to 1850 instead of 1750 while staying at 2 hours 15 minutes.
I think that most people have not played in a GT level event in the last 6 months because a GT level game takes a lot of time and 100 points worth of models is notthing when your game ends on turn #3.
When I drive up there to play you a game Reese we will time it and see how long it takes us.
Yeah, that is a good idea. I don't like to ever make decisions based on impressions, or feelings but on data. If we can prove that the optimal time/points ratio is 1500, 1650,1750,1850,2000, whatever, with data to back it up, then that settles things for me.
@RiTides
Thanks! We pride ourselves on being honest, even when it shows that we did something incorrectly or made a mistake. Denying something happened or ignoring it doesn't make it less true.
Games finishing is more important that more toys, for me. However, as you can tell from the polls, a lot of people disagree =P

Three hour rounds at BFS had a dramatic impact on the "feel" of completing, beyond just natural conclusion. I also think it's hard to evaluate even hard numbers. Over 85% of games at NOVA finished on time, but if I had to hazard a guess, it'd be that less than 50% of players finished ALL of their games on time, with probably a very high % of people who had at least one or two games NOT get close. Some individuals failed to finish MANY of their games, though that was an outlier. These are all based on concrete numbers; fortunately, MOST GT's are tracking all of this information now, so a lot of decision making is being done based upon hard data.
3 hour rounds were perfect for 1850 - 2000 IMO, mind you, I'd still prefer lower point values. At NOVA I had 4/9 games finish, and in 5 games I spent the entire time hustling my opponent (generally tau, once daemons) who took forever to deploy, make decisions, and move their models. 5 games out of 9 making it to turn 4 - and one requiring judge permission to PLAY turn 4, ruined the event for me.
BFS on the other hand, I had one game (vs tau...) where I only got 4 turns in (with gk land raider/stormraven...I was fast), and all of my other finished naturally and I/we got to experience random game length.
I'd really like to see an event give 1500 points an honest chance, rather than the knee jerk reaction of "too low! nevar!!". Build 1500 point lists as a thought exercise if it appears a bad idea to you at first is all I can ask people - you'll quickly realize the lists barely change, you just get 1 less riptide, wraithknight, or a couple less wave serpents (6 instead of 8?!).
Yeah, that is the max rounds for 3 hours in a day, IMO. That is a minimum of an 11 hour day with lunch, breaks, registrations, etc. That starts to wear you out big time.
@Target
I agree 100% about 1500, it's just that people push back against it hard. I mean, I understand, I prefer 2K to write the best lists I can, but what's the point when you don't finish games? I have been a proponent for 1500 in tournaments for years but the community support just isn't there.
What we need to do, is present a study--so to speak--where we run events at 1500, 1750, 1850, etc. and track very closely how many games finish, etc. and then present the data so that people can make informed decisions. If the community wants more toys to much that they are willing to not finish games, then so be it.
It's just that now folks make the decision based on what they like to play at not what actually result sin finished games.
@Mike
Nice, that is a bit like the Golden Throne which was 2K Double FOC and 3 hour rounds. They were 3 and 2 though, which meant Sunday you weren't playing so long.
We all knew that 6th edition takes longer to play than 5th did, and that is the reason why the Nova Open dropped down from 2000 points to 1850.
What most people don’t understand is that the last 3 codexes take even longer to play and there was still an issue with finishing games at the Nova. Just to give a small example: Eldar have 2 movement phases (almost all of their models can move twice and still shoot) and that takes time.
So unless you have played in a GT in the last couple of months you do not realize that there is a major issue with time and finishing games. So all of those people just say to add more points unaware of the time issue.
It is like a hurricane is approaching New Orleans and the people who know better get out of town, and the others end up in the Superdome. The people who want more points are the last type.

In my mind it is better to finish games. The nice thing about 1500 too, is that you can have 2 hour rounds and the pace of the game is nice and leisurely. You don't feel so much pressure to rush.

I'd play 1500. That's a little easier to transport too for us folks that are making a journey.
Just wondering why there are no special characters allowed in the Fantasy tournament. There are some armies that cant be created without the use of SC.
You guys should make a riptide Trophy, paint it yellow with black holes and make it "The Cheesiest List" Trophy Unless people dont want to be called out on cheese, they might not take it.
You buy raffle tickets at the event! It is going to be super fun, and the army is coming with Secret Weapon custom bases, a Mr. Dandy Defense Line, and a TableWar Display Case!!! It will be awesome.
And that is amazing. Reece, you've gone and made this event even better than I initially thought. I didn't think it was possible. Is there going to be a limit to entries?

Nahh, It is the same coat I wore(Im planning on turning it into a Inquistor costume this time) But the material really wrinkles badly. So when I get ther I would have to iron it out, and the material is thick too on some part.
And I want to Travel Light, Im trying to ee if I cant fit all my clothes into a single back Pack
It was, But it might be an inqusitor jacket this time I also have a stupid question. How will you guys be Treating FW Chapter Tactics? And how strict will chapter tactics be? Like Lets say I have my army PAINTED as White Scars, But I want to play them as Ultra Marines? Is that Kosher aslong as I lt my Opponent Know?
Dozer Blades wrote: Some armies like Tau and eldar scale down really well at lower points. It is amazing how much Tau can get for even just 1000 points.
They also scale up very well - it's not like Tau or Eldar run out of super efficient optimal choices to spend their points on at higher points levels, which some other books do. What doesn't scale down as well are the deathstar armies, which in my mind is a good thing - they still work, but suddenly they have much less of a supporting army, whereas at 1850 or 2000, they have 850-1000 points to spend on the rest of their force instead of just 500 (meaning their scoring or support is weak).
At 1500:
-Deathstars get a tad weaker but still function (jet seer council, screamerstar, ovesa star)
-Some other codices (DE for instance) don't have to stretch and spend their points on stuff that isn't optimal anymore
-All the other armies remain roughly unchanged, they just scale down.
Reece should be able to get the hotel to put people on his minimums regardless of whether they stay in the block (at NOVA, we are able to do this ... I can't imagine Hyatt of all hotel chains has a unique policy). It's a hassle, but that's the nature of it anyway. Every hotel will do its best to hit you for under-filling the room block.
Our first year having a minimum block (So, our first year at the Hyatt), we had to hit 384 roomnights. For every roomnight under that, we'd have to pay roughly $75. Pretty dramatic. We run a hotel raffle where anyone who stays at the hotel gets tickets for each night in a $1,000/$250/$250/$250/$250 cash prize draw that's co-funded by sponsors. Because of this, we independently track who stays at the hotel in order to make sure things are above-board; also because of this, we were able to verify their numbers claiming we had only 350 were BS, thus saving the con a couple thousand dollars in the net.
As relationships improve and they realize you are serious [and also aren't an admin for a large company who will just shrug and write a check for the "Extras"], things get better. Reece, again, should be able to manage his relationship with the hotel in such a way that he gets credit for all the nights.
THAT ALL SAID, unless Reece himself comes on and says that's the case, I would add a petition that people at least TRY to use the room block for now and let him work with the hotel on issues like what Blackmoor's posting. I'm not an official voice at all, just a supportive fellow TO ... staying in the hotel the con is in is CRITICAL, b/c the event space is only affordable (even remotely) if you contract room nights. If you stay in nearby hotels, and Reece ends up running it really close, you're going to see his soul patch turn grey in a hurry.
They have a rate that they give the tournament that is discounted off of their regular rate. The problem is that their regular rate (with and without promotions) goes up and down depending on their occupancy.
The BAO rate is $139.00 a night if you choose to book that way, but right now they have promotion for 25% off. That means that I can book the rooms for only $109.00 a night on Fri and Sat ($60.00 savings) and Sunday night they still want to charge me $139.00 for the BAO when it is only $44.00 otherwise. I really want to help Reese out, but I do not want to pay nearly an extra $100.00 for one night to do it.
I hope that Reese will talk to the hotel and see what he can do about the prices being out of whack.
3 times I have checked the price for the same room, and the price fluctuates each time.
I understand the relationship with tournaments and hotels that a lot of people do not understand. Most tournaments have goals that they have to hit to get deeply discounted event space. That is why the TOs want everyone to books using their code (and the reason why I posted the code above for Reese).
Everyone should always try to stay at the hotel if at all possible because not only is it very, very convenient (going up to your rooms to rest, or grab something between rounds, and just rolling out of bed and going down to the event are all a huge bonus), and you are doing right by the TO help them lower their costs. So if it is just a matter of a few dollars then you always want to stay where the event is being held.
Yeah, my mother who is letting me use her credit card(I dont have one as of yet) Was utterly surprised when I said that they needed a deposit. That better go towards the damn room IMO
Im a bus driver in las vegas. You can get around the entire las vegas area that has any interest in a bus. Dont buy a bus pass on a strip bus, it costs more, buy it on a residential route. If you fly in to vegas, take the 109 maryland parkway south bus from the airport to the bus terminal, then take the strip and downtown express to ballys.
If you are coming from los angelas , look up the megabus! Ive heard of round trip tickets from LA to vegas for $11! You cant beat that price unless you stowaway in an rv like rogue in wolverines vehicle in the first xmen movie.
Im a las vegas native, pm me with any questions you may have
Saying so goes against my nature, but if we want events like this to take off and keep, we're gonna have to suck up the price. It will get better in the future.
Book over the phone with our code SBLFG4 here: 1-800-358-8777
Hey guys, sorry I wasn't able to jump in here sooner as I am in China, as Blackmoor pointed out. Not fried Scorpions eaten yet, but I did have Fried Pork intestines and stomach with hot peppers last night along with fried fish heads. That was interesting to say the least!
As for the room, as others pointed out (and thanks for jumping in their, guys) we have to fill a certain number of room nights, for every night we don't fill, we have to pay for the room completely, It's brutal.
The rate we locked in was cheaper than the rate at the time the contract was drawn. As you all have noticed, the rates fluctuate constantly based on occupancy, time of the year, holidays, etc. They are always in flux.
Can you hunt around for a cheaper rate or stay at another hotel and save some money? Sure. But if you make the choice to do that, you are literally taking money our of Frontline Gaming's pockets and choosing to make this event less successful.
We 100% understand that you all want to save money, that is normal and nothing to be ashamed of. However, with events like these that run on narrow (if any) profits, we can't afford to take hits on the rooms. If you like these types of events, if you want to see them in the future, you need to contribute. We don't make any money on the rooms, so there is no incentive for us to have you all stay there other than it stops us form being hit with a bill.
This first year we were more conservative with our numbers on rooms we committed to booking. Unlike other events, such as Adepticon for example, where you typically don't have any real options for competing hotel, Vegas is overflowing with them. We didn't want to over-commit and be left with a $10,000+ bill. Going forward, so long as we exceed our numbers, we can commit to more room nights, get better rates on the rooms and halls, which means more and better prizes, bigger venue space, etc. But this year, we tried to reduce the risk a bit as I am sure you all can understand.
The other thing to remember is that this is Vegas and they really don't need our business like some hotels in less popular vacation spots do. I negotiated pretty hard and a lot of the hotels weren't having it, haha.
So, long story short, please choose to use our code and stay at Ballys to help support the long term of health of the event and in years to come we will be sure to negotiate better deals and have a cooler event!
While everyone is hashing and discussing room rates (important), game times and points levels (yawn) something *really* important has not come up yet:
Handicapping the Beer Hammer event by weight.
Reece, if you remember me, I'm reasonably weighted for a famine victim. I'd go into racial demographics of SouthEast asian-raised women, and how I compare in size to them, but let's keep things politically correct and let's leave those women feeling good about their sizes ... compared to me.
You have no idea how hard it is to find 29 inch waist Levi's.
What I'm after is a rating on the BeerHammer event, you know, hanicapping for weight. *If* I weighed 200 pounds I could keep up with average guys, but since I clock in around a 12 year old's mass, well, I was wondering if this is an item that you could give higher priority for ironing out. Maybe us scrawny guys could have a 50% to 70% skew on the amount of cans on the table ?
I could not compete with (drink as much) Copper Waddle, big strapping guy that he is. And there's the other demographic of gaming to be considered ... the, uh, say, *linemen* of gamers? Scale tilters in the double century range? Triple Century? What about us guys near the 100 year mark? C'mon!
I mean, really, the Tau XV 107 R'Varna Battlesuit ? Like *that's* important ... Let's keep priorities straight, -im kay?
Looking through the rules I wanted to clarify the No FW list rule. Does this include FWSM Chapters Tactics that use the SM:Codex?
Thanks
The CTs and SCs are allowed. We've always used them and they are super fun! Feel free to use them, just no army lists.
@BrotherKerose
hahaha, no one can drink with Copper Waddle, the man's got a hollow leg!
But yeah, the beerhammer event is about fun and getting gak faced while playing 40K so, I am sure you can accomplish both, even with a diminutive stature

Copper Waddle, you may be able to out debauch the average bear, but I have a liver made of granite. As Toby Keith said, I may not be as good as a I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was! You'd be in better shape the next day, but that night I would bury you, son! hahaha
And don't forget my magic hat, you can't out-game the silver fox!
@Thread
In other news, ticket sales have picked up big time this month and 40K is looking to sell out for sure, Fantasy is approaching 50% full and Warmahordes really picked up steam, our Warmahordes TO is thinking we may hit 80 players!
Can't wait to see everyone there! I have been working on my drinking skills here in China, along with my "eating really weird gak" skills, which I do not know if that will be useful back in the states.
