I've been a bit under the pump at the 'ol Nerdington Manor so haven't done much, but I did get a start on putting some veins on my Sak! got the first lot of 3 inks down and a wash some more wash and a neaten up and the lower part will be finished, he really shouldn't take all that long to do from here on, although I must ask what colour I should do his googly little eyes? originally I was thinking black shiny? but he may need something as a spot colour? thoughts?
second little thing I did was just for kicks I got inspired by J-paint and his D.A.M.O servitor so I had a crack at making one myself, he's just about done all I need to do is tidy him up and re glue some cable, but he's looking cool imo I gave him a laser cutter arm and a spot light hand so he can see what he's doing when he grabs things with his clamp servo arm thanks for the cool idead J!
first up here's some Sak action!
and my servitor who shall probably be doing maintenance on my Zone Mortalis board!
until next time!..... Nerd up dudes!

That's a really sneaky use of the servo skull, and now we know where they all come from also Sak is excellent, reminds me of that line from Rocky Horror - "heavy, dark and pendulous"

Thats some nice veining on your sak Damo

nf09 - you need to get that sak looked at Model looks awesome and looking forward to seeing the finished work. One suggestion is to try adding a bit of blue into the veins for a bit more contrast and realism.

Post by: finnan
nice Sak Nerd!
the model looks good too
The veins look great so far - it's looking so wrong it's right! - but nothing says 'Stretched To Capacity' than some blue veins!
I like the idea of black shiny eyes too, but you may be right about needing a spot colour. How about white eyes because it's gone blind from doing... er... 'naughty things' /nudge nudge
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
would need hairy palms too then...

Post by: Dr H
Oh yeah. For the eyes, maybe do them black but have a tiny dot of yellow in the centre?
9217
Post by: KingCracker
Hey that might look really good. Maybe not totally black though, like rotted flesh Grey or similar. With all the little blood vessels to but in a dark color.

Well, what can i say? but THANKS guys! glad you all recieved my Sak so well! I'll be taking some advice and adding some more blue into the veiny goodness soon as well as doing some 'sperimentin' on the eyes, I like the milky white blind idea but a black and yellow fish eye could be cool to? although it may then look too fishy? maybe I can do them black blending into a milk white pupil? or even hypnotoad eyes!
I got something in the post today for my ZM board build I was really stuck about making so many bulkhead lights and getting them all the same, so I went ebaying to see if there was something i could use to represent them from a dollhouse or similar? but, as luck would have it I was browsing my subscribed threads and clicked a link from Machinator's thread to his store, what did I find? only the perfect set of lights so I emailed him and we worked out he would cast me a hundred of the larger ones for my project he even threw in a few little ones I can add next to doors etc.

I have a really good feeling about this project now, it's coming together nicely, Galorn is helping me out with some floor designs I can cast and then it'll be all systems go! but in the meantime I tidied my Nerd lair again and discovered a pile of sprues with leftovers on them, should find something fun on here?
and i even primed GFX's Celestial Lions Termies
In two weeks time i have some holidays coming up and plan on knocking out a lot of painting! I even bought 12 CD's from ebay to keep me motivated with new tunes I really want to finish my Sak, Gits Dread, Celestial Termies and my Hell-Bitches but we'll see how much other stuff lets me do eh!

You know I read that "veins on my sak" title and really didn't know wgat to think. Then I opened the thread and said, "oh, wow." That looks really amazing. It definitely evokes a creepy, veiny sack. I showed it to my wife. She was equal parts impressed and aghast. Kudos, good job, that's a tough combination to evoke.

The hitech one, with a trident and stormbolter, would be pretty ace.

Post by: Theophony
I'm not a huge fan if the hitechminiatures stuff, but you've made the oblits look great, so I'd go with their leader, but I might loose the wings. I like the scibor dude better, but I don't like mixing styles in the same army.

Hey I've been thinking, for ur zone mortalis board, you could make a central area with lots of corridors around it with four entry points into the central area. So players could either move their units to the central area for a huge showdown or hunt each other down around the 'corridors'
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Galorn here's the link buddy! enjoy http://stores.ebay.com.au/bloodandskullsindustry
Theo, I would totally scrap the wings don't do anything for me anyway as well as not fitting my theme I already have mixed the 2 brands in my Slaanesh army, the Lord Azreema is Scibor and my Oblits are Hitech, i'm leaning towards the Scibor guy but I do really like the quality of Hitech, Scibor's details can be quite faint the feel I want is sort of Poseidon Greek-esque marines! i'm even contemplating having all the marine helmets with the roman style crest on them? what do you think? I also need to figure out how to make the damn tridents?
Senortaco! you sound tasty mate! I could totally go a Taco right now mmmmmmm! aaaaaanywayyyy. I like your thinking, I was planning on making one or two or even three central themed open areas to use like you suggested, so have a medical facility/xenos operating room, a engine room, a command centre flight deck, and a ammo and parts storage room? i'd love any ideas for these types of rooms? what to add how to paint etc.
30672
Post by: Theophony
I really like the idea if the horse hair roman crests very cool idea along with the trident concept would be wicked cool. I think especially since your doing slaanesh you can make ones similar to the dark eldar trident....quick searchy.
Also there's a Lego trident, two different sizes, ones for bionicle which would be too large, the other is mini fig sized, which you might be able to easily convert.

Good day master Theophony, I hope this day finds you well? I await eagerly your response in this matter.

Those are the ones I found also, I did a quick div through my Lego to try and find one of those or I think there's also a black version (they say they're bigger ), but couldn't find either quickly. I had an appointment to get to so ill look again later. All I could find were these
Put next to a chaos marine and terminator so you could see size. The spear should be about the same size height wise. Nothing else cut the top and put on a smaller shaft .
Edit, you posted twenty seconds before I did. You'd understand why it took me so long if you saw the pile I swam through, I actually busted a sweat, and not because I'm out of shape. It's a lot of digging.

Thanks for looking Theo :-) I went ahead and bought the set of 5 of them from ebay, I think they'll count as the thunder hammers on my Termies and I'll see if I can find one of the Ninjago lego trident weapons for my Captain as it's a little different and looks cool!
and just think, without your input I would have tried to make dodgy plastic ones! cheers dude! I shall name one of my Termies 'Theo'

Im sure you could look at Dr. H's tutorial and make sprue tridents, but ordering them is probably cheaper. the larger one I had in the picture could work for a dreadnought ccw, or a titan ccw.

Actually damo, your pics AREN'T linked to the gallery... would love to vote on them. It is an extraordinary miniature. From concept to painting... very well done. I love the subdued OSL (most people overdo it), the filigree on the plates and the way the shading gives an unearthly glow to the wings.
Just love it.
Excellent progress on the dread too. I love your comment about excavators and forestry trucks. I work with (though not in) the US Forest Service so I know exactly what you mean. He's coming along swimmingly!

Lol, thanks guys, if anyone ever needed a reason to continue doing something they love (not that they'd need an excuse!) comments like you all left about my Sak have been truly heart warming! thanks so much, and I'm glad you liked what I ended up with at the end. only a few short days until I get a good couple of weeks of near pure paint time! I scored a box of Bezerkers to paint for my mate Mitchy and i have a heap of stuff still half done on the desk as well as hopefully a little peek into the other 2014 project of my Emperors Spears space marines
I also get a pretty sweet gift from Mitchy for painting his Bezerkers too! a PS3 & Fallout & Fallout (something....vegas??) should be fun i hope even though i can't play games to save myself
So now I have a rather nifty finished veiny Sak! I shall continue on with Gits Dread for him and some Hell-Bitches and Termies? I think ramos asked about the yellow so far? it's kind of an experiment at the moment, I primed it Desert yellow from army painter and then airbrushed dark yellow from below to shade and a couple of various yellows from above and in bits to add some contrast (the names escape me at the moment of the paints but they are Vallejo) then I washed it with Sepia and started bringing the yellow back up before dry brushing, and that's where I'm at at the moment with it
sorry for just dribbling crap tonight I'm just winding down readying myself for my holidays! and enjoying watching Alpharius drop by and remind everyone he's monitoring my thread! those pics crack me up!

I have a PS2 and the only game I can play on it for longer than 15 minutes is the Atari 2600 compilation and the Sega Megadrive Compilation! anything else just confounds me, I tried to play Hitman many years ago and spent about 20 minutes running into a wall and spinning around until i had to stop and vomit as i got motion sickness :-( true story! even the old school Wolfenstein game gave me a headache and a sick tummy, yet I can happily watch someone else play for ages as if it was a movie? strange but that's me I suppose! :-)

You should pick up Mirrors Edge then Fallout 3 is one of the better games to hit the scene in the current gen of games. Vegas is technically more sound, but the story and world are not as compelling.

Thats actually a pretty funny story Damo Apparently I like laughing at others misfortunes. Although I get the same way with every single Half Life game Ive tried to play. Can I ask a little question about my HH army? I have been planning for it to be IF's but lately i've been tempted to do them instead as Sons of Horus? as they were also loyal until they were wiped out on Istvaan v? so, which would you prefer me to paint them as? I will use the same list that GiraffeX kindly made me but i'm just wanting a bit of input at this stage? :-)

I get that sick sensation on some games as well, the best way around is to sit father away from the screen. That way you dont have to move your head/eyes round so much which reduces the feeling to puke
Sons of Horus what be this? Your turning traitor Nerdy, I think thats the penalty for flashing your sak round too much in public places/forums
Oh if you do go for the Sons I do think a new list might be required as they can have these
and these, note they can have a multi-melta on their terminators
or you could just add them to the army list
Oh and I trust you have seen Sheep's thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/457003.page

For consoles you get Fallout-3 and Fallout: New Vegas, each helps you as they are a mix of RPG, open worlds so no linear stuff , even parts of quests you can walk away, and the shooting is helped with the V.A.T.S. which you will learn about and how it helps the user do stuff Pip-Boy 3000 is a handy wrist computer not only has what is stated above, but is a radio/rad counter/supply inventory, wardrobe helper, and medicine dispenser all in one!
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Oh i'm no traitor! the only divergence is my Slaanesh guys and that's only because of the perverse nature of them, I feel we 'connect' :-) i'm thinking loyalist Sons of Horus, but I'm a bit iffy about the colour? it's pretty varied as far as the green goes, I've got a whole new can of Army Painter Primer in Army Green but if thatdoesn't look close enough then ???

Yep, Luna wolves was a greyish color, the sons were the greenish color of the sea. I've seen lots of attempts at it, but none that have really wowed me.

Check out the Salamader bits on this page, not used them before but they look good.

thanks guys, yeah I decided to stick with my fists! something about them calls to me :-) will be interesting to see what happens in the new codex? I'm just about to check my bank and then pre order some stuff too! I've tried following the thread about it but the guys on there are like mega mathhammer nerds, i'm more about the fun :-)
Hazard stripes! for the WIN! wait until i get my table built Dave it'll be a shrine to hazard!
Gits, the scales turned out o.k for my first attempt as the mold doesn't come with any tips or instructions :-( hardest part is it being sticky to push into the detail even with lube and then trying to get it positioned on the model without stretching! i'll sort it out for the Termie team later though :-)
I'm gonna scrap the trident on the HQ, think I'll whip him into a Marneus Calgar stand in? anyone have any ideas for gauntley mounted bolters to use?
30672
Post by: Theophony
Aaaawwwee. I liked the trident.
For a marnus bolter I'd try cutting own older version bolt pistols and use zinge strips for the bullets.
Really like the yellow of the fists , trying my hand at yellow as well.

Post by: whalemusic360
Keep in mind even as Calgar, he has need of a power sword. Or a power trident.

Post by: nerdfest09
Progress! I kept looking at Gits' Dread and thinking it just doesn't look quite right to me, it needed to have some areas painted in my style that I feel comfortable doing, so i had a go at trying to give the yellow a bit of punch in places without overpowering the weathered slapped together feel of the construct I like the main parts much better now, and next i'll start working on all the weapons and connections etc. and finally the little details like lenses, gauges weathering and chipping.
I was in a juggling mood today so i wanted to do some sort of small progress on a lot of different models today next under my moist brush was my Hell-Bitches, I am loving these girls, they are some seriously sweet looking models for use as Demonettes and today I did the first highlight on the pale flesh coloured parts, gave me many excuses to google bikini clad models to see where the toned stomach and ass caught the light then I promptly forgot what i was doing and just painted wherever I thought suited
the last model I wanted to work on was my HQ again, I decided to clip off the Trident sorry Theo, but the normal Termies will get 'em so don't sweat I cut down some storm bolters to fit under his fists and added a ammo box to his back so logically you could almost believe where his bullets come from until I get hold of some Zinge belts then I primed him and started a little base coating, just wanted to wash him and start the green blend on his legs.
then, as I was getting ready to pack up and go and watch some movies with the furry kids I heard a noise above me? a static hiss & crackle? I looked up at the ceiling to see my light which was switched off flicker then turn on and make a loud fizzing noise before it went BANG and smoke started pouring across the ceiling while the fitting crackled and fizzed like a jar of bees!! I raced out and switched off the power and found this.
wtf! it's an outside light globe according to the electrician! not used in homes heated the wires up and shorted it out spectacularly, so while I was waiting for the electrician to turn up and do his thing I had no power and kept blocking in some colur on HQ so this is where he is now, any suggestions, thoughts? the brown parts will be gold too.
Cool, hope that's enough fun for ya guys! see ya tomorrow when I do some more painting, i've got a good day tomorrow with painting and sunshine and tomorrow after dinner i'm heading into town to get some more Ink work on my body! and then on Friday! OMG! I am actually picking up a new car that Orkmoticon doesn't have a grin big enough to convey how happy I am to finally get a decent and usable car again that I can enjoy and play with! was also a good find for the price and all the features this baby's got...... but I'll tell you and show you when i get her eh!

Congrats on the new car, I had one of those twelve years ago . The babes look
Great, as does calgar. I really can't see any spot that needs more color or work. I really like how you have the green on the legs, I just hope he doesn't trip on the seaweed.

Post by: Gitsplitta
Good decision on the dread Damo. You've got to make it your own... besides, it's a lot more fun that way!
I think you need to bring the highlights up on the demonettes... that girls back-side needs to shine!
Calgar is looking very impressive. I think what was wrong with the trident wasn't the concept, it was just that the trident itself was way out of proportion and cartoony looking.

Whohooo new car! That's always good, we are getting a new... er car come tax time next year, Walt is kinda pooping on himself lol.
And man can you get some paint down! I'm loving what I'm seeing, and that dread! Holy cow that is coming out nice nice nice. It makes me glad to see greenskins on your blog! You should do one at least every now and then, they are full of character and can be an excellent painting tool because of that. Not to mention my obsession for the Orks
While you're on vacation we should chat duder, it's been too long.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Hey guy! thanks for the input Gits, I'm glad you don't mind how the dread looks so far, still a fair way to go i'm trying to have most look rusted or aged and certain brighter parts look more recently painted or touched up and draw the eye to the details, probably do more tomorrow for you
I also like the concept of the trident to bring the theme out in my ES force and i do agree the ones i got while they look good, they don't quite mesh with the 40k models, so back to the trident drawing board we go (notice I said 'we' )
the Hell-girls have a loooong way yet that is only the first re highlight of the base colour so far and if my ocd serves me correct then i have at least 5 more to go
Oh yeah the new car (new 2nd hand car) is playing on my mind a bit, i'm quite excited and itching to get her on the highway soon! even though this is a gaming and hobby place I just want to tell you guys about it! but I'll try and refrain, although I will say it's big enough for the 3 furry kids and when it was new it cost over $100,000 and the year is 2001, if anyone can actually guess what it is I'll personally paint them a marine!
and KC, you bet dude, i'll organize a time for a beard date soon eh!

Lol, no not a rover, I wouldn't touch one with a pole! after 13 years of driving nearly everything by many manufacturers I can see how things have aged and hold up to everyday use, the new Landies are nice but seem redundant being so large :-) so no win for you Theo!
On a side note i bought the new space marine codex along with a Vanguard and Sternguard box and the Libby :-)

For the trident, could you carve away some of it to make it more 40k-like. Maybe more angular and pointy?

Speaking of close calls, we had a pretty scarey one just the other day. We ate dinner then went out to do some scout outing for my son. We come back several hours later, and as soon as I open the door, the smell of gas pours out the door. I run inside and some how, while leaving Im guessing, someone must of hit the burner on the stove and it didnt ignite. So for the few hours, it just leaked and leaked and leaked. It was so strong it gave me a headache a few minutes later. So we had all the windows open, and fans like crazy
Thought I was going to crap my pants....my Orks were in the house no less!

Dawwwww.... Your dogs are adorable. They're so fluffy!
Dread effects look incredible as well. Very cool osl, and the weathering is top notch.
The scale armor press molds you're using are pretty neat. My only complaint would be that on the dread plates, the "rim" of the scale armor plates runs right through the middle of the pad. Would you be able to shave that bit off so it appears as one continuous area of scales, then surrounded by that rim.

Dude The alphas are theoretially still loyal to the emperor personally... Read Legion... I'd say do up a "loyalist" set of AL (maybe 500-1k points) and have fun with em.

Yeah, the dogs are cute ones, and having washed dogs like that, I can tell ya, when Damo has to bathe them, it is a project based on my memories of working vet clinics and bathing such dogs.
Like the dready a LOT.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Yes the dogs win the post again! damn their cute fluffy adorable faces!
I am really enjoying painting Gits dread at the moment it's a great challenge to get it to look Orkish and still discern the details, the flame and the engine glow were just a way to try something special and a little different than i usually paint I hope it fits with his army well enough and causes untold damage and pain to his enemies!!?
Ramos, I plan on filing the join flat and adding a plasticard and riveted band to tie it together as i can't get the scales to match enough against each other using just the mold, I also think I may turn my Emperor's Spears into Alpha Legion so any advice and direction on them would be welcome I'm just not loving my HQ guy which is sad but at least i haven't started a whole squad, are there any particular things i should include or avoid when painting AL? I think the scales can be used to good effect on them?
The kids get washed and groomed next week so then they'll be white again (and oscar a nice shiny black!) then you'll see how much they glow and look like snowmen-dogs!
well, last night I had an appointment at 7pm for some more ink work but he was running late so I sat in the car reading white Dwarf until 8:30 then in i went and 5 hours later came out with some ink on my chest and some pure Nerd love on my wrist i had my right arm half sleeve finished off with some shading and around the wrist got "The Emperor protects" Lol there's no hope for me is there!

Alpha legion eh? Good choice, because I think they look cool, and their fluff is the tits. If you want some serious mind bending Alpha Legion, look up Misgula (I think thats how he spells his name) he did some true scale Alpha Legion and man oh man....they are simply incredible. Definitely something to aspire to anyways
Also nice tats Damo, that reminds me I need to go see my buddy James and see about getting some ink done. Its been WAY to long since Ive had a tattoo

Cute dogs, guy around here breeds them, got a little herd of fluff he walks by every now and then.
Can't wait for the IF, they are looking nice. And the mould work on the other is great. No idea on lore about SM, to much. But I got to say your gut is serving you well at the moment so go with it, the stuff you have been cranking out is of a whole new level, so go with your gut dude.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
I shall indeed follow my gut instinct and whip up a new space marine force in the Alpha Legion theme & colours but I'll be using the new Space Marine codex as my list and base, I have an exemplary and very helpful friend in GiraffeX who without complaint takes all my ideas and multiple mind changes and creates lists for me that are usable and i can build to! and since there's a lot of conjecture about Alpha Legion being chaos followers or secretly still loyal? i'm gonna go with loyal and follow the codex astartes :-)
Also, I bought the new Codex, Librarian, Sternguard & Vanguard kits :-) and I am going to use them to resurrect my FleshEaters army! so keep the eyes peeled soon for lots of awesome bare heads and those new kits joining the sons of Sanguinius!

Hey Nerdy, I've been wondering something that you probably have the answer to. Is the BA Codex still legal or does the new C:SM replace it as well?
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
That I can't answer sorry casey as i haven't actually received my Codex yet :-( but I'm sure the changes needed are more along the lines of the skyfire rules as the rest of the BA codex I think is pretty good?
now another bit of AL thinking, I'm trying to decide how i will approach the painting, I really don't like the style painted in the Chaos Codex, and I've been browsing a few i know who do them well, namely Migsula and STC and i kind of want something between the two? I like how Migsula has more of a blue armour and STC has quite blended green into the base darker colour, so I'm thinking this: base and prime with TAP Ultramarine blue, wash with black and blue washes, then blend up to the bright green leaving it near black/blue at the bottom of each armour panel?
30672
Post by: Theophony
Color for the legion sounds great
BA codex should remain valid, so will space pups and closet angels
On your chest you need the new marine anti air tanks taking pot shots at the other tats, which are obviously hell drakes of slaanesh disguised as cute little birdies.

I have a few ideas building up for an army list for you, just need to wait for the new codex to check points etc.

I have only just caught on that your doing Alpha legion, Now I have been hovering around thinking of doing exactly the same as you and counting them as normal space marines, but seeing you do this is likely to kick me into gear, I cannot wait!
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Coolness! thanks dudes, I'm a lot happier now that I've got a new focus in doing loyal Alpha legion! I think I will be able to really do some Damo-esque conversions and things with them, the armour will be a challenge but once I get my recipe down I'll be sorted, they will be 'normal' marines as they're loyalists so no chaos spikes or skulls. I like GFX's stealthy idea for the army I'm a bit excited about getting my new toys! I can say toys as i'm with friends right?....right!?
speaking of Alpha Legion stuff again, my HQ model I gave a bath in Simple Green and a good scrub, the primer pretty much stayed but it's only thin so no problems I ripped his head off as the helmet was throwing my conversion-fu and I added my much favored bare head (bald of course!)
Hey, if i said to you, "guys, you wanna come over and watch 10 naked chicks chase us around" you'd probably say "sure Damo i'll be there in under an hour!" well, as nice as that sounds you probably don't want these chicks after you
I did the next layer of highlighting on the skin of my Hell-Bitches (or Hell-Chicks for the sensitive?) and I think I can really nail these girls (not like THAT you fiends!) but with the painting! they shall be finished next week for sure!
OH MY GOD IS THAT JUSTIN BEIBER?!!!??...... AHHHHHHH!
Would you like to see more?.....
would you like to see something different?......
would you like to see the start of an Ork?.....
Oh, you would! that's great 'cos i started one today

I always liked the paler skinned examples i've seen around and wanted to try it!
The Hell-girls I'm happy are working how I wanted them too, they'll be my focus next session as well as Gits dread shouldn't be long before I call him done either, I don't want to get carried away and ruin him
Now for some news!
I'm hoping to launch the second annual 'Golden Nerdfest' competition within the next couple of days, this time it shall be called the 'Nerdcademy award' I have just finished the trophy which is very appropriate to my current frame of mind! but I am now in need of some willing sacrifices....... or judges if you will, I would like 3 people other than myself to follow closely to the same judging criteria as i used last year with some minor changes:
Build (100 points)
- quality of build (i.e, neatness) (30 points)
-adherence to theme (30 points)
-conversions/kitbashing (20 points)
-appropriate posing (20 points)
Painting (100 points)
-neatness (25 points)
-use of advanced techniques (25 points)
-overall effect & look (50 points)
Basing (30 points)
-theme/appropriateness to figure (10 points)
-build/customization (10 points)
-painting (10 points)
Overall impression of miniature (50 points)
So, that's it for now I'm hoping some will approach me for the role of judges and as soon as they are confirmed I shall create the official Nerdcademy award thread and reveal the trophy and prizes for 2nd place while the 3rd place is going to be revealed later in the comp

3) That Ork dread is fething awesome.
4) The Ork skin is coming along brilliantly.
5) Nice tits! er,, tats! Actually.. both. - no, I'm talking about the Daemonettes', not your chest.
6) I liked the look of the trident on that guy (before you cut it off). The scaley look really did make me think Alpha Legion, though.

That made me laugh. I can picture someone opening up a big wooden crate and as they take the lid off some random intercontinental boot shod leg comes out and nuts them.

Post by: nerdfest09
Lol, you guys! KC eating ice cream I can imagine..... in kiddy pajamas's with a pouty bottom lip! I'll grab an Ork or two soon and do a tute on the skin, it's not that hard really it's the choice of colours that's the key it's nothing new technique-wise so whoever wants to have a crack should be able to do it I haven't been totally convinced to start an Ork army yet, I've been teetering on the edge a few times but the thought of the force never having an end scared me! if I can get a list that suits me and i can build to, then who know
I have been doing some paint today, I've 90% finished Gits Dread & my Hell-Bitches and done some base coating on the Mek's clothes. I really like one aspect that I tried on the Dread, I wanted the hydraulics to appear Orkish and not quite as good condition as the Imperiums stuff, so I decided to slather grease on and around them, I made it by mixing black drawing ink with water effects and brushing it on, I also tried to do a petrol leak in the rear fuel drum too it's a very scratched and dirty paint scheme but I think when you see it finished tomorrow you'll like it
until tomorrow

Orks you say Nerdy.....
You do realise that you dont really need that many if you have a cunning plan, say Blood Axes for example in the same combat scheme as your guard.
You could have a nice 1500 point army with the Guard for the big guns and the Orks for da fighting. It just so happens that I have the Ork codex.......let me know if your interested

Post by: KingCracker
Yea he has asked me a couple times in the past about few bodies Ork builds. Bikes, wagon spam or Walker spam are the way to do it. Hell legally you can make an Ork force with zero boyz that's almost completely walkers. Wouldn't be super competitive but it would be few in numbers and hit like a hammer.

That deff dread..... ...its so beautiful Automatically Appended Next Post: But yea, you could have THAT BigMek and a SAG Mek as your HQs.that would allow you to have 2 troops choices of 1 dread each. Then for HeavySupport you could either fill it out with 3 units of 3 KillaKans, or another dread and 2 units of 3 kans, or 3 dreads, then your army would be really tiny. Hell, you could even use this as an excuse to get your hands on a MegaDread as those can be a heavy support choice in normal 40k. So 1 of those and a random mas up of kans/dreads.
Again, dont expect to take a list like that to a FLGS and wreck face with it, but it could do some pretty impressive damage if you got the swing of things. I mean, I read a blog from a tourny player that made a FlashGits army, and would mess around with other tourny players using it, and once he got it down, he said the build did far better than he expected, and thats FlashGits

Freakin' sweet Damo. Once I get the dread in my hands I'm going to have to study it for a good long time. It's wonderful tone and balance. The power generators in back is something I've never seen anyone else do. The chipping and rust is a very different style than I use and it's very convincing. Wow. It'll be an honor to have that in my collection.
The deamonettes... sign me up! Pierce my nipples and call me Shirley, I'm ready to join Slanesh. I love the dappled transition between the hard carapace parts and the skin. Very subtle and well executed. The faces are, as usual... exceptional.
Love the progress on the mech. I think you'll need something on him decidedly not brownish in tone to make him pop.
Minimalist list that hits hard?? Meganobs, battlewagons, biker nobs. I put together an "expensive" ork list out of just what I had lying around. Meganobs, nobs, regular bikes, mega armored war boss, mega armored big mek, a dread and kans. It was supposed to be an "easy mark" for my youngest to blow up with a combined marine/eldar force. It proved to be anything but. The b-wagons were gone by turn 2, but the infantry and bikes were much more resilient that I'd thought.

RiTides has a great thread about it but it's in the DCM section. Seems that MajorTom and many others are saying that the Badger Krome is a great place to start and you won't need to upgrade it for a long time, possibly ever, so it's a solid buy for most people. I found quite a few set ups on ebay with that brush for around £300 I think. I need to check the compressors though.
Best thing to do for advice though is upgrade to DCM and read that thread. There are loads of good videos on YouTube too. AirbrushTutor and WargamersConsortium both have helpful series' on the subject.

Yep that is roughly the "codex" standard look for AL guys.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Lol, thanks guys for the feedback the AL guy is my first attempt and it was the amount of green I was concerned about, i think perhaps another blue wash should pull it back enough we'll see how it looks, but at least it's not too much to be ott! and his head Oh you guys! I actually like it, it's only marginally smaller than the GW ones and on a Scibor body it does initially look small I won't argue there, but I look at it as being more in proportion if he was actually wearing the armour! I keep thinking Primarch even though that won't be his role in the force
any ideas on his tabard colour? my initial reaction is creamy white or black, green could work but it'd have to be quite bright and it might pull your eyes too much? Hmmm?
Oh I should probably chuck this in swap shop but I figured here would be just as successful as you dudes know me I've put my HH IF on the back burner now as I had too much going on in my head with my models I needed to strip it back a bit so I have as a result got 15 MarkIII Iron armour marines with Phobos pattern bolters up for grabs, I'd like to swap them for Ork models with no paint on them in plastic if possible some StormBoyz would be ace if anyone has some but i'm open to any ideas

Post by: nerdfest09
Thanks Commander, I have already been totally inspired by the masterclass books! I have a master plan to use the methods and techniques from the way they paint the interior of the medusa to do the entirety of the walls on my ZM board i'm doing :-) I think the dirty white will really be different if I can pull it off well, still working out the powders at the moment, I've experimented on my Baal pred by fixing them twice and then sealing with varnish but it still is a little powdery and rubs off a bit? not sure if that's normal or not yet?
26800
Post by: Commander Cain
Well I never varnish my powders anyway but I do find that they have a tendency to rub off a little bit. I find that the less powder you apply the better it sticks.
Oh, if you don't already have a bone coloured powder it is a must! It works really well and stands out more than the muted browns and reds I find.

Gah! My previous reply disappeared or was deleted. Or maybe I forgot to hit "post"? Now for the attempted reconstruction.
Alpha guy looks good, though he's a bit more green than they're usually portrayed. They usually seem like dark blue, but with a greenish sheen, yet different to the dark sea green of the Sons of Horus. Perhaps some blue glazing over the top of the model will have the right effect? Weathering on the Baal looks great, and a nice start to the librarian. Nice rich blues you have going there. What did you use? AP blue spray and a glaze?
Nice loot haul there. I'm waiting on a decent sized FW order myself, though I wish I could be as focused as you are. I also need to get the new Marine stuff. Argh! Too much to buy!
That Ork Mek has come up great. Really nice. I can see why you've been inspired to start a force of them. New book is supposed to be soon as well. Though it's a shame to see the Orks are leading to the Fists being retired. If you can't find anyone to Orkify those marines, I know someone who'd be willing to exchange them for money, though many of them would ironically be inducted into the Iron Warriors - arch enemies of the Impy Fists!
If you're still looking at doing a little bit of sculpting and detail press-moulding, the place I got the Oymaru/Instant Mould from in Australia emailed me to say that they've gotten in Procreate, which is supposed to be a great alternative to greenstuff according to various sources. I dunno what it's like firsthand yet, I just ordered some, but I was never any good at sculpting with greenstuff aside from press moulds. I'll be giving it a try to add details from one kit to others before I get all ambitious and try actually sculpting anything again..

Cheers az and guys! the powders are turning out to be quite fun but reaching the balance between looking good on playable models and looking good on static models is proving tricky at the moment!
I haven't opened the second masterclass book yet Commander but I'll have a look tomorrow for you and let you know if you like? flicking through the pics it seems a bit 'cleaner' than the first with more eldar and painting rather than dirt and grime.
Now, my Alpha Legion guys, I've been doing a whole bunch of research on paint and colours and kind of luckily I've seen such divergence in a standard paint scheme that I feel that my take will be approved when it gets finished with all the details included to tie it together? well, I hope so anyway I do agree the base blue is a bit lighter than usually seen but at least it doesn't look anything like the examples in the Chaos Codex
anyway here's where I'm at with them so far with progress of my Marneus calgar counts as! still a way to go.
Now, I mentioned before I was going to re visit ALL my Flesh Eaters! I got one done-ish today with a test of the white chest eagle and helmet stripe, I think when they all get the treatment it'll make the army jump out at you a bit more?
that's what I did today anyway, hope you like!

My Flesh Eaters upgrades of the details started in earnest today on one squad just got the eagles and helmet stripes base/washed and re base coloured, next will be the 2 highlights up to pure white, seeing them all like this I think really makes them look a bit/lot! more interesting as a force!

Post by: nerdfest09
Hey guys! so i'm guessing that he looks enough like an Alpha legion to pass muster good news for me then! the scales are pretty rough as I was sort of trying a few styles to see what looked good, I will be hand painting scales on all of them, originally it was just the scale shapes coming from the blending in the same green colour, then i added a bit of bright green then I tried to shade under the scales but it'll do for now
@Moltar: Close.... they're my Flesh Eaters force I have a bucket load of them and now i'm going back to include more details and lavish some more love where they need it before i add weathering powders to all their legs etc. so it looks like all the pics i had of them before!..... you'll see again
@Whalemusic360: I don't know dude, I was going to play these guys as a loyalist splinter of the AL which could be plausible due to the nature of the legion so I thought the 'A' logo would be better? I do like the Hydra symbol though too....
@bebopdrums: Ah thank you brother bebop! yes you would be correct the colour is a little unusual and I would prefer it to be darker in the blue sections, but I have a painting style and methods that I love using to enable me to actually finish models and as I could only find Ultramarine blue in a primer can that's as dark as i could go, otherwise you may have seen these as Crimson Fists instead lol! Calgar should be done next week by Friday!
@Gits: yep! Nerdsanity to the highest degree! wait until I whip them out on the Contemptor Dread!
@Azazelx: Sanity? eh? what's that? .....................
@snrub: Wha thank you snrub
@Theo: thanks Theo, I do love a good orkmoticon and I hadn't actually thought about a few random and well placed body parts to really push the fierce and savage nature of the Eaters! I will go ebaying and see what i can find!
Well, my plans are as such for the next few weeks, I want to finish my Marneus Calgar stand in and GFX's Celestial Lions Terminators. I have two commission (sort of) works to do one of which is a FW Angron model and this model is the first one I really want to do as I've been playing and researching how to do some magic looking brass/gold for his armour and ths Nerdcademy award for faces has inspired me to re-push myself and my skills to do something pretty good for Angron's face! when he's done I'll be diving into the world of Orky goodness again and finishing some more stuff for Gits, 3 Kans, Grot herder & Grots and I believe a Mantis Warriors games day boarding captain? Once they're done i should have my own projects re organised and ready to go! and it will be back to the Slaanesh army with my Terminators and hopefully the FW Kakophony marines will be available?
anyway, thanks again I'm happy he worked and you all liked him! see ya'll soon eh!

Nice start, you said you'll make the armor brighter, but will it be brighter gold, or brighter red? I could go for either

Hmmm, initially I was thinking a brighter gold but I can still do that and make the recessed areas a bit more red? I thought about adding washes to make it look like he cleans all the blood and viscera from his armour plates but it still congeals in the joins etc?
