That was good fun, thanks to those who could say hello. Twitch does tend to derp in the evenings and weekends when more people are on unfortunately.

Why do you lot wait till the middle of the night to kill the server?
Anyway, I have a busy day of work ahead of me, so I'll fix it later this evening. I see Unleashed 1.1.3 is now out, so I'll probably just fix and upgrade one after the other and then make the server available again.

Wasn't me. I was just working on my energy problem using powered coal.

First thing!
At the beginning cut down wood. Make a Wooden Sword, get a pick. Your done!
I'm not updating the server to 1.1.3 until it's listed as recommended, so this bug is still present, just be careful around MFR stuff for now (if you can, place torches, levers, buttons etc before you place the MFR items).
Out of curiosity, has Shrike even been on the new server? In fact, I haven't been on a server at the same time as Shrike since I met his challenge and destroyed his force field.
Does it matter if the being known as Shrike even exists at all? Newer users may be given to thinking he's a bogeyman type entity, though I kind of think that he gets off on that a little. =)
Accidentally made a hole in the edge of Nexus island after getting into a gravity gun fight with an inamimate, half finished thunderhawk. I'll ah... fill it in tomorrow when I'm not half asleep.
Oh and in case anyone was wondering I got three hits!
Hey i just had something happen to my thaumnomicon
Anyway to fix it? (Nevermind fixed it some sort of bug)
Also this happened.
Also I lost my wand of dislocation , SOMEHOW. Because of the damn lag i believe. I got a lag spike and was picking something up and boom its gone. It had charging on it. Ugh. Just wasted 60 levels....
And for those you interested. Heres my room with my trophies. This is an old photo though.
The wand will probably reappear- that keeps happening with me with stacks of blocks- they'll come back later on. Seems to be just a general minecraft bug.
Hmh.... I seem to be crashing as soon as I load up the world :/
Whats worse is that it's consistent- tried 4 times now and got same result. Game loads, I see a Nexus blue sky-colored screen and crash.
No idea what happened.

I still am having crash issues as soon as I load the world.
I can load the server, but soon as I get in, the screen looks like rain textured over the nexus sky color then crashes before loading terrain.
Anyone have any advice? Google thus far hasn't been much help :(
Have you used a force wrench on any Thermal Expansion kit? (Like energy cells, tesseracts, etc). The force wrench has a mechanic where it encapsulates the metadata of a block when it's broken, so you can do things like move chests with all their items, move an MFE with all its charge etc. However, Thermal Expansion items already do this on their own, and the doubling up messes up your inventory, leading to a crash.
I'll take a look a little bit later, see if I can see any clues in the logs as to why you're crashing out. If you get a crash log in Minecraft (the one with the purple border), can you copy the whole thing into a new paste at http://pastebin.com/ and then PM the link to me. It might help to find out what's wrong.
I havent used any force tools yet, save the Mitts. To break just about everything I use an omniwrench.
What I did last before a server reset (forcing me to log off) was set up an indexer, genepool, and two stirling engines. I had them linked via liquiduct to an iron tank, and had 20 modest drones in it to grind up.
Pastebin crashlog incoming (I get millions of em). Thanks for all your help!
But not sure what the solution is. I can try editing your location so that you're in the overworld. But not sure if you'd crash again when going back to the nexus.
What we know is going on for thaumcraft 3.1 is.... Vis is gone completely. Azanor hated this. No more marker blocks, instead we have a geomancers bell wands have something called charged ____ which includes fire, earth, lightning, equal trade, frost, and the nine hells Upgrade for golems. Wands are now easier to craft. Thaumcraft is more complicated as well. Azanor has gotten rid of many of the discovery things with the book. instead you have to explore the world more to find stuff and basic elements Many of the prime elements will stay the same. New Biomes will happen if you use too much of the aura nodes. Causing terrifying creatures and corruption to happen. This is really bad so don't do it. All of this will happen in 1.6.1 minecraft. The regular thaumcraft will be gotten rid of completely.
Most of the "biome" stuff can be turned down or off in server configs. If it was really as bad as all that, it would likely end up in its own separate pack, like GregTech did.
Optio wrote: Also looks like a complete screw over for anyone not interested in Thaumcraft that gets caught in the crossfire of someone's mistakes.
We do not know yet. Just an assumption on my part. But there are negative effects. More than just Oh I put too much of one aspect into the crucible and there is a zombie!
Its more like. The biome changes. But it is slow. Not instant. All we have to do is avoid doing that.

Yeah. But it won't. Its probably just going to make a new biome that just happens. Plus its a great way to teach people what not to do.
Good luck with that. In the meantime, I would probably just disable all the biome spread on the server (along with anything else that forces itself on people who aren't interested).
It is a cool mechanic and is great for people who intentionally install the mod, hoping for that mechanic in their single player world (or as a "Thaumcraft server"), but as part of a modpack where people just want a bit of everything, it's more of a nuisance.

No need, they can just build far away from it and likely never encounter it. I mean if it's 2-3k away, wouldn't every chunk need to be loaded 100% of the time for it to spread to them?
i have put an ender chest in the automatic mining age at X: 3275, Z: 3192. If anyone has sand, sandstone or rotten flesh they do not want you can put it in there. I have not added any color combination to it so let me know if you add one so I can match to it.
I now have an axe that not only chops down the entire tree it's used on if you use it on the lowest section, it also automatically smelts all wood logs in to charcoal for my use.

Anyone tell me what this chest is? I'm not going to be able to get on for a while on account of breaking another computer and uh...not knowing what it is is going to bug the hell out of me.

Having finally gotten back on the server after time away I've gone to inspect the mysterious wooden chest.
It's a marriage proposal for you Wyrm. The sign reads, 'Will you marry me Wyrmalla?' and the chest contains an iron ring. Whoever it was, what a cheapskate. No gold ring?
I need to make an apology to Meli and Iustis- I accidentally cut down two of your trees before seeing your house. (Curse you short render distance) I will replant them and leave all of the materials gathered from them in your home.
I wasn't sure what you meant with image reply, so I used 4's admission that he cut down two trees near your house and the fact that there are two trees that really stand out in the image to jokingly suggest that those two trees were the ones cut down.

It was a Magic one and a Apple one. I had set up shop on the crag nearby, but I will go away if I'm likely to be intruding. I'll keep the image though, so I don't accidentally steal anything again. Sorry!
that little solar array is powering the mob grinder under that mound of dirt, currently just a single skeleton spawner and zombie spawner with the occasional wisp, i will be adding a spider and cave spider spawner once i make a gravity gun. this is not an exp farm just an item farm, if anyone is looking for anything let me know. I currently have a large supply of enchanted bows.

You're fine to the trees as long as you plant them again at least. As for those magic ones, you can keep the wood in exchange for planting some of the spare saplings around so their numbers grow a bit. They make some nice blue planks. Other than that the two are nothing so special as they're more or less normal trees from their specific biomes. And as for apples, just right click the leaves if you didn't know.
Ok, which one of you was playing with a filler? That seems to be the cause of the crash. I'm mainly curious as to whether you did anything unusual or crazy with it, like having a "I wonder what happens if..." moment
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok, server can't be restarted. It crashes on startup with the same crash.
Looks like someone tried to use Microblocks in a filler and the server is obviously a full block purist.
I'm going to have to MCEdit it to fix it. If whoever owns the filler can let me know where it is, that would help get it fixed a lot faster.
However, it will have to wait for at least a couple of hours until I get home.
A filler is like a reverse quarry. Although it does have some other functions and can also be used to clear out an area similar to how a quarry works (but it doesn't collect the items).
Ah, it's in the overworld, good, that saves me a few steps of tricking MCEdit to load a mystcraft dimension. I'm downloading now and will try get it all sorted within the next hour or so (hopefully).
It is known that microblocks are a bit crashy, particularly in combination with MFR machines, but I guess no-one tried them in a filler yet. I'd guess it crashed because microblocks generally need to be placed in a specific direction or location within a block, and the filler isn't that smart.
darkinnit wrote: A filler is like a reverse quarry. Although it does have some other functions and can also be used to clear out an area similar to how a quarry works (but it doesn't collect the items).
Ah, so basically it makes giant cubes?
I think I remember Prof using one of those now that you've described it, to make multitanks.
Ok, Optio, rather than delete the filler and have to work out what its contents were to return them to you, instead I just deleted the Energy Cell. I've spawned a new Energy Cell back in just above it.
I'd highly recommend you remove the microblocks from the filler before powering it again.
I'm uploading the changes now and the server should be up again shortly.

I dropped off the Magic wood and all bar one of the saplings- I replanted that one. The apple one dropped no saplings, but I found a tree later and have a spare- I'll drop off next time I'm passing through the Nexus.
I'm going to deploy my quarry above the stronghold I found in my old biome, mainly because I need stone brick but also because I need resources. The portal frame will survive, so it'll still be accessible, and I'll build a bridge to the frame once the quarry is done, in case anyone needs to get to the end from somewhere else.
Also, anyone have any redwood saplings? I wanna get some of those mahoosive trees for my crag home.

No quarries in the overworld. Quarries go in the mining age. Stone brick is simple to automate.
So due to a gross miscommunication between Grundz and myself, the Dragon has been slain.
He apparently fell through the portal (I opened it last night to snag some end stone before popping back out with a book) and I misinterpreted his "Help" for "Help gotta kill the dragon"
If its possible, could we have a dimension reset?
Dont know if we had any plans for the dragon.
eh, the dragon was killed on the Ultimate server with very little fanfare.
On the vanilla server the only reason I managed to record the dragon fight was because I was online at the time and managed to tp to them in time I don't think they would have waited if I'd been unable.
Any patch for micro blocks in future too? Perhaps their a more obscure mod, and people don't use them regularly enough to make a huge impact on the map, but in my own case I tend to use them excursively.
The ForgeMultiPart mod is brand new and so will take a while to have support on the map. I know it took ages for Redpower microblocks to be supported due to the way they were stored.
Any block that isn't a regular square seems to have trouble getting support on the map, including blocks with connected textures.
Delete some of the files in the ftb directory. I don't have access to a computer with ftb installed though to tell you which, but its in the root folder irc.
Ah, the main FTB team are away at the Minecraft Expo in Telford, so someone left behind must have accidentally marked 1.1.3 as recommended. It fixes the "unnamed" thing but makes Force sticks uncraftable (and a few other annoying bugs).
They are working on getting 1.1.4 released soon, so I'd hold off on upgrading to 1.1.3 for now.
If you have accidentally updated to 1.1.3, click the drop down, choose 1.1.2, then click the Options tab at the top, and click "Force Update".
That should clear out the 1.1.3 stuff and redownload the 1.1.2 stuff.

Hrmm... So, Dark... I was doing lava removal, and I went to right-click a bucket of lava onto an empty tank. It placed the lava. Predictably, I died.
I lost a few things I'd rather not have lost- namely my fancy hammer and my mining hammer. Any way you could look into a reimbursement? Or even just see if it was legitimately a glitch, and not me being terrible.
If not, I would like to stay here. I checked it out but didn't see signs of inhabitants in town. No signs or beds either. However, there were a few chests and a bee factory set up.
Pretty sure youre good for stayin there. Chests and the couple apiaries are built into the village spawn. Honestly I think you are one of the first to settle in the East (I've only ever flown through it briefly). Everyone else primarily went south or west.
Apparently my village was too small to include a blacksmith or iron golems. No big loss.
I did find another village a little north of my new town that DID include a blacksmith, but half of the homes are in water. The blacksmith chest was also looted before I got there.
I might eventually expand this far, but that feels a bit greedy. I have a lot of work ahead of me anyways in my own biome.

Here's what you do:
Block off the doors to every house in the village except for 1 of the cubical ones.
When night comes, the villagers (at least 2 are needed) should go in there to hide. Once they're in, seal the top of the house (so they can't get on the roof) and replace the wooden door with an iron one.
Now, surround the walls of the house with wooden doors. Presto, they'll start breeding in a confined space. Once you've got enough resources, you can move them to a full-scale farm.
Hey Grundz... You're willing to help me with my dreams of incredible cobble compression?
I think an Applied Energistics system could instantly craft octuple compressed stuff (from enough cobble, of course) if you taught it the various compression steps through encoded patterns... Then it'd just be a matter of getting a ton of cobble gens going.
Though I also have a 5 block setup for making the initial compression- which can easily be trickle-down'd into the rest of them- thing is, the Auto Crafting Bench takes time, now, to craft stuff...
I mined out something like a 41 block diameter circle down through 115 layers - probably over 60,000 blocks- (most mining age stuff is gonna be only 64x64) and I got a Single, Quintuple compressed cobble block, and 4 quadruple compressed. Even a max sized quarry's gonna get you maybe a single hextuple compressed. Let's do some Mathammer on this.
One 64x64x64 quarry nets 262144 blocks. Assuming perfect cobblestone (probably gonna get more like 2/3 or 3/4 cobble)...
One Hextuple compressed block requires 531,441 cobble. That's roughly 2 quarries. Considering you need nine of those for a Septuple, nine of those for an Octuple... That's 162 quarries full output for a single Octuple compressed cobblestone block, or 43,046,721 cobble. Even if I utilized all 100 (or 1000?) possible Igneous Extruders Grundz is able to provide (and maybe another dozen or so of my own, so far?- let's say 1000) that's 43,046x3 (takes about 3 sec for an extruder to make a block) seconds or 35 hours per octuple block.
Basically, I'd need to setup a system of hundreds of thousands of igneous extruders to have octuple block production nearing the speed UU matter can be produced. And UU only makes smoothstone. So that's out.
Actually, old-school mining well or 1-block quarry cobble generators might actually be faster than extrusion, and since it takes iron instead of tin or gold... Assuming a block per tick, at maximum power, that's 20 blocks per second per mining well- thought that's actually limited by the speed at which the lava/water interact, so let's just say 1 block per second. That's still about a 3x boost in speed over the extruders...
Now if we were able to get a full-fledged, chunk-wide Direwolf20 style Frame Mining Crawler utilizing mining wells, and just cut a swath through the world... Then we might be able to see a system that could start producing octuple cobble blocks at a fairly rapid rate- again, though, this would require either massive banks of autocrafting tables (just a bunch of wood, really, and hoppers) or an Applied Energistics system with encoded recipes for all the various compression levels of cobblestone, told to keep a large inventory full.
Because he wants the compressed cobblestone blocks for decoration?
The Auto Crafting Bench is the worst way to go, don't forget other mods exist, you don't have to go overkill AE.
Here's some methods I saw on the interwebs yesterday:
You normally like to avoid tech, so if you want to keep it simple, less tech, use Factorization packagers, no power required:
http://prntscr.com/1nk9ay (Plus you can re-use the packagers for other storage blocks like iron, gold, lapis etc)
Anvildude wrote: I mined out something like a 41 block diameter circle down through 115 layers - probably over 60,000 blocks
So... smaller than your average quarry.
A properly powered quarry will still be faster than your average cobble generator, and it'll give you more resources than cobble, besides. You'd have to move it occasionally, but that's a tiny price to pay, since you'd also be able to move all the stuff that powered it, too.
Of course, I'd also guess that most people don't want all the cobble from their quarries. I'm sure you could set something up with a public tesseract or enderchest for donations.
Not yet. Stay on 1.1.2 (for now) if you want to play on the server (of course you can update to 1.1.4 for your own worlds or other servers).
1.1.3 does fix a load of bugs in 1.1.2, but then brings in a whole load of new ones (I think they only made it recommended so people would stop complaining about "unnamed" and they could listen to different complaints instead).
1.1.4 fixes the new bugs, but isn't listed as "Recommended" yet (but there's always some persistent minor bugs that we'll just have to live with).
So 1.1.4 is the one I will update the server to, but not until it's listed as "Recommended". I might do some testing of it this weekend to see if it breaks anything.
So I've only been playing on the new server for a few days now, and I've noticed only one or two people on at any given time. Is the server population more plentiful on the weekends?
Also, I'm getting way ahead of myself, but what's the general rule on expansion?
A lot of us are UK I think - and yh weekends tend to be more busy.
As for expansion you are pretty secluded - id recommended on just shoving some signs down to claim any areas your thinking about in the future.
All my expansion will be underground so unless you have plans to extend underground we will not run into each other even if we are in the same biome.
Summer's over and people are back to work. We've all probably got a heavy work load right now to make up for lost time. As it stands one of two people is really the average. During the summer we were in the double digits, but I guess that's because we had a new server and plenty of times on our hands. =P

Sounds good. I'm planning on continuing my expansion East. Especially since it is fairly empty when it comes to other players. I don't imagine we will ever run into each other either.

As one who is on a bit more than is probably healthy (thats what I get for being bored xD), The population fluctuates normally between 2 to 6 people, depending on time. Summer vacations are ending, like Wyrm said.
I've noticed that the busiest times are mornings (8-11AM EST ) and late evening (9-12PM EST). Dark in particular is normally online around 3-7PM EST. (just a random example that came to mind)

Normally I tell people that if they're having lag, they should investigate their own connection, however I see that at the time you died, the server was doing an unusual amount of disk swap:
So I will accept that this may have been a death due to server issue and so I have given you a rollback. Be careful if you haven't lit up the dungeon as you may be back in it again.

Hey Grundz, did you happen to pick up any of my stuff after I fell today? I saw the deep storage unit in the chest, but didn't find anything else.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Fhmmm...
So, first off- sorry if anyone's experiencing lag. We're attempting a massive cobble generator/compressor system (Grundz and I, at my instigation- Grundz is just awesome enough to help me out. BBrotherwood was helpful as well. Thanks guys!) and are currently using pipes, hoppers and Packagers, which doesn't seem to be ideal, due to the number of entities in the pipes- I'd do pure hoppers, but that would be a ridiculous amount of material for what we have.
Anywhoo- I think that Force Pipes with Item Cards would be a better solution, but to infuse a Force Pipe with a crafting bench for a Crafting pipe takes a level 3 infusion, and requires an appropriately configured Item Card- which I don't think anyone on the server knows how to do (we got plenty of Force shards and materials, though if anyone wants to try). If you can provide those, please come forwards.
Or I suppose a ton of Enderchests would work too, but that'd also be a silly amount of resources- especially Blaze Rods and Ender Pearls, which we don't yet have in massive amounts.
The server's not showing any issues so far. Certainly nothing like your infinite chicken generator, or Grundz' infinite villager generator.
I think 4oursword was offering you force pipes earlier.
I've got some modest (i.e. not "Grundz level") enderpearl and blaze rod generation (because I hate how many recipes just lazily use them for rarity value), so I could donate some if you do start killing the server ;-)
Grundz has infinite Force ingots, so that's not so much a problem.
More of a problem is that the crafting Upgrade to the force pipes that would allow us to use them in leiu of Packagers for the compression stage is a Level 3 infusion recipe- meaning whoever does that needs to have been doing quite a lot with Dartcraft- also, we need item cards, which are kinda confusing.
ok I seem to have developed a problem with multiplayer FTB. I was using the smelter at spawn after quite a few age jumps and my game was lagging bad. the color of my inventory space (on person, in chests, in all machines/crafting tables) has now changed from white squares to dark gray. it makes it hard to see the item and the quantities.
my single player FTB MC is fine. any suggestions to the problem and a solution?
Place a small charge inside your pc along with a detonator and then send an electronic pulse to the detonator.
I take no liability if this method does not work and will not refund for any damage that may occur.
On a different note if things are changing colour that sounds like it may be a hardware problem. I tried over-clocking my CPU once and gave up after my windows desktop went from blue to grey despite not touching a single setting inside windows.
Nah, I know I can source one. Found three diamonds in a loot bag today.
current mission really is setting up a Redstone energy cell and engines to power it. With that in place i can quarry as and when needed and not need to produce a ton of charcoal first.
to be honest, I'm losing my ftb momentum a little at the moment. So i may take a break. Need to work out this golem farm in single player first.
Can always use the sword and the harness, sword is alot faster so its good for long distance exploring. The harness is good for building projects and stuff where you need control.

You need iron? I have about six stacks of iron blocks. (not ingots, blocks).
I'm willing to trade some of those blocks for the Certus quartz, both crystal and dust form (can compress dust to crystal anyway).
Ten dust/crystal per two blocks is a generous offer I think.
It is indeed. Not sure how much I can obtain, but I will take a look in my box o' fun. I know there's some I've not mined on the surface at the village I claimed yesterday.

There's a working iron farm at spawn, just void of villagers as dark didn't want it there and people kept breaking blocks and letting the villagers loose
ok a question for you machine masters. How can i speed up my infinite sand system? i have an extruder that pumps cobble out at a quick rate and i am using a single macerator to turn it into sand. is there a faster way to gind the cobble into sand?

overclockers in the macerator, or more extruders/pulverizers (they are cheap and MJ is easier IMHO)
I just finished setting up about 900 extruders for anvils cobble project, to give you an idea
If you need materials, I need uranium and will trade
If you have enough minium shards and can make enough stones (potentially infinite with the right style of mob farm- primarily visored iron golem guardians) you could use 2 minium stones to convert cobble to grass to sand.
4oursword wrote: Grundz, you got a quide/tutorial for your iron farm?
Dude just climb into it, its just a water pit that leads to a lava blade, with doors around the outside, and buckets to hold the villagers, rinse lather repeat for each floor
I can try and find a tutorial for one but its as simple as that

I'll take a peek. The tutorial I last followed had really poor screenshots and I couldn't work out if the villager pots were done correctly.
the trick is the lava blade is wrong, you need to kill the golems and drop items into hoppers THEN kill the possible 1-block tall villager baby runaways
that iron farm sounds terribly complicated, i have loads of iron from my zombie grinder. i take all of the enchanted gold armor i get, smelt it down into bars and then use the minium stone to transmute it to iron.
i smelted a few gold chestplates down and got over 100 bars of gold which doubles when converted to iron.
The iron farm is to facilitate grinders. Namely a Wither Skeleton one and a Zombie one. As well as getting me mass-fabricating by providing all of the iron for all of the solars.

its a regular farm with the inclusion of doors and some buckets to hold villagers
Whose is the Communal Resource area accessible through the Diamond and Emerald Ore gate-y thing in the nexus? I went through the book, and my FTB died. It dropped to less than one frame per second, and then I quit. I attempted to re-enter the server twice, and within ten seconds Minecraft crashed with no terrain loaded. I am trapped there now, and I have resources I need (traded from Melissa). I assume that there's such bad lag there that my PC cannot cope.
(not sure why I'm asking who, it's almost definitely Grundz)
Give it about 15 minutes, there were some pipes pooping out items in the area that were likely causing an issue which I just cleaned up a few minutes ago.
the area will likely load a little slowly but it shouldn't be that bad lag-wise, I use a lot of transfer tubes and such to keep that down now.
If someone though it would be clever to empty my double chest of charcoal please own up to it as you can have the job of making sure the boiler reaches the top temperature again...
i was just about to put my uranium into Grundz's fancy material machine when my pc decided to commit suicide. i am hoping i will have my pc up and running FTB today, i just hope i didnt lose my uranium as it was literally on my mouse pointer as i moved it to the slot in the machine.

you dropped it, i picked it up and popped it in
on another note I might have broken server, there was a ton of cobble on the ground since I forgot that each ME transaction costs a MJ, and only had one engine powering it so the system backed up, placed an energy tesseract next to the ME system and server went down
could you place the 10 stacks of sandstone i would have taken in my enderchest using orange orange orange or i can get it when i get FTB up and running again and you are on.

"Come! Visit Grundz! It's Crash-tastic!"
Grundz, you've already destroyed one player's computer, when will it be enough? WHEN?
when the map is a seething wasteland of lava
actually if you can fix the "chunks dont load until a player enters them" thing I can move all my machinery away from my main base, I have a feeling my boiler reactors are what caused his issues.
