I'm painting a terminator inquisitor today. I will take it slow so as not to buggr it up.

In other news as I was on my way home today I was soaked to the skin in seconds by a sudden blast of water and ice. It was like an entire battalion of riot hoses linked up to a lake full of icecubes. People were staggering around the street in a state of shock and it very quickly reached wading level and gale force winds whipped up waves on the pavements. I think a tree fell down. #2012endoftheworld.

Maybe this kind of thing happens all the time in america but over here we don't take kindly to it. No.

A little preview of ongoing work. This is a beautifully detailed, neat and well balanced model from an era when that was exceptional and the normal run of things was just to bang sh*t together and hope for the best. Going to go grimdark on his ass.

Good name. Good work on the fig. Glad you weathered the storm OK. Not sure what the weather is like on the coast here... but usually if we (who live inland) get something similar to what you describe, it comes associated with a twisty cone of death to boot.

Aha - I was wondering why an unknown american man wanted to friend me - I thought it might be dakka. I tend to keep faceyB for people I've actually met. I mean there's photos of me looking fat and drunk and waving my assets about - its not very dignified. Seriously I'm drunk in every photo... Let me think...

I have an update for youse guyz inabit.

I assure you I'm not drunk officer I've only had a few ales.

But no seriously now I'm older and have the pressure of full time work upon me I look back with incredulity at the plethora of drunk photos I'm in - I mean I've seen some drunks but my friends are the best at it and I used to be their leader.

I have no regrets - only a sincere wish for a time machine to take me back.

I say that but on the other hand I think its good to stay sober enough to stay in control of whats happening. Bad things can happen if you aren't in control.

Cheers neil - good to know that I'm the one that comes to mind when booze, boobs and drugs are being mentioned. I wouldn't be so bothered if it wasn't for the fact I've been teetotal for many years, and my moobs aren't particulary developed (not enough for me to have a pair to play with anyway )

Nice work weety, squat was great, and you need to watch Breaking Bad - by far the best TV show around And it is indeed Malc's old man.

Hybrid was cool too, good job on the OSL, I think subtle is the way to play that most of the time (look at the way that rolls of the tongue as if I know what I'm talking about with OSL ).

Inq Baal is looking very nice, certainly one of the sculpts that has really stood the test of time, really loving the muted pallettes you've been using recently, great stuff.

Waders and cobbled together walkways are the order of the week over here, the pathway that leads to our pontoon has been under water for a few days now, water level's higher than anyone can recall seeing.

I say do it. We will all subscribe!

Waders monkeytroll! Wow it makes me happy to live in the third floor of a building on a hill. Bit windy up here but no floods. The poor sods down near the coast by the river got flooded out so its no joke.

Thanks all for kind words. Chemical cutthroat apart from the blue you're fairly subtle.

Whats next? Consumermass is just around the corner so I might get some new paints and miniatures. Ifalna reckons 'Ard Coat is good and I need a shiny varnish for gems and stuff. As far as miniatures are concerned I'm a bit stumped - I really want to try my hand at something new. I love the inquisitor stuff but its spensive. And the new cultists are cool but everyone has them already. Maybe something old but not RT. 2nd and 3rd edition stuff maybs.

Anyway Xmass won't be totally awesome this year because of inflation in meat and booze prices etc. Plus we all know that its now illegal to be unemployed and you will be sent to the work camps if you loose your job so I will be sucking up big time and doing extra hours. This may cramp my style.

Lol. Everyone has to wake up and consider the wider world now and again. I'm going to have to get used to the idea of SMALL HANDS!!! and realistically sized guns (sometimes), long legs, correct proportions. Lack of gothic-ness.

Barsoooooom!! Who makes that then?

If anyone has any other suggestions that'd be great.

Well I got paid and it was good - time to make the decision. To buy or not to buy. I'm going to surf the net for minis!!

This model appeals to me http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=andreah~hfsf111&category=miniatures~sci%252dfi-humans

And I have to have this one - http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=alyx-%28rock-chick%2C-wizard-%26-misunderstood%29~hfa030&category=miniatures~modern-adventurers

A lot of hasslefree civilian minis appeal.

Whats next. Ummm whats that french post apoc company called? Black hat? Black cat?

well I just looked at reaper and although they are ultimate for variety, hasslefee is winning on sculpture. Reaper minis are a bit spindly and lanky. Hasslefree are more real looking.

Also reaper minis don't seem to wear much clothes - I disapprove, they will get cold nipples.

I like Reaper and Hasslefree! That Alyx mini looks like a very good deal.

The non-GW figures that appeal to me lately though are:

Bronze Age Miniatures' Green Martians and White Apes of Barsoom He's not the best sculptor but no one is doing these types of minis. He is located in Utah in the States.

Victoria Miniatures Vic is sculpting fantastic non-GW customizable guardsmen. She is in Australia.

Otherworld Miniatures Because I am a softy for the old Dungeons and Dragons...and crustaceans. This company is in the UK.

Heresy Miniatures His minis have character and some actual characters.

Brushfire I'm not really a fan of anthropomorphic fantasy but Warhamsters and Red Wu were too much to resist.

Anywayhere are some atmospheric pre-paint photos of my selection of hasslefree. I just noticed that the guy looks like dirty harry - must be why he appealed to me. The space pirate lady with the dreads is made from blue resin and is much taller than the rest. Didn't realise this when I bought it. The whole package came with a free packet of popping candy - which was bizzare but fun.

For some reason my superglue doesn't want to work when its cold, so these where difficult to assemble and Green stuff was required.

Beautiful sculpting.

'Man' is...trippy. It is a mix of Bowie, transitioning out of his Ziggy Stardust period into...god only knows, really.
Boy and his dog is GOD AWFUL.
They Live - BEST MOVIE EVER. Ever. So quotable. BEST.

Cool Weets! I have the Dirty Harry guy too, except I replaced the hand cannon with a sniper rifle to turn him into Allistair Tenpenny.

Nice conversion dstein - tenpenny maybe has on older face but you could mix some grey into the skin tone and have stark white highlights.

Briancj I was hoping a boy and his dog would be awful in a good way. But it was only 1.80 so I'm not bothered.

I had a feeling that They Live would be a classic.

It is awful in a good way. Have plenty of popcorn to throw at the tv.

That has got to be one of the best female sculpts i've seen in the wargame mini 'verses, not overly sexualised and the proportions aren't utterly unbelievable.
and what's with the pupils, that's just freaky

Very real isn't it. I suspect that some kind of digital sculpting was used but who knows. Maybe it woud be rude to ask and it might spoil it if I knew.

I received some new paints from vallejo today. Yellow and lilac washes and some shiny varnish. Oh and yet more P3 privateer press armour wash. I use it on all my models because it gives such a fine definition of shade.

I haven't been painting because until today we resisted putting the heating on. Npower shall not have our money!! But my hands are cold... So it must be put on.

I have some nice Reaper paints in drop bottles, inside these plastic cases that are cushioned by foam that were gifted to me last year during the Penny Arcade secret santa. How long do those things last? Because I haven't used them at all. I had just dropped $300 on Citadel Paints when those came in the mail and I've been using those since.

It is a bit like that - whenever I do have the spare time to paint of an evening I usually end up getting drunk on the various Xmas beverages available and then I can't hold my brush steady.

However I can say that I have grey-scaled clint eastwood, the cheerleader and space pirate lady - now I just need a tiny pinch of motivation to start building up colours...

After 3 hours of concentration I've come up with this. The eyes still need defining but I'm done for tonight. Maybe an watered down darker wash on the trousers and some final highlights as well. It feels nice to paint something where the surface is new and smooth - old GW models all have an ever so slightly bumpy surface.

Thanks dave! Loving your brick phase by the way.

To answer your questions Dr H first obviously as I do with almost all my minis I grey scaled the whole model with black wash followed by white highlights with a very soft dry-brush. Then the skin is wet-blended with flesh colour. Basically using a very fine brush and some moisture to delicately blend the colour in - then a wash of skin tone plus grey, then highlights with lightened flesh colour.

The hair is a base of a warm yellow with white highlights followed by sepia wash.

I think a lot of the credit has to go to the sculptor for doing such a smooth job.

Yeah, I go thru a lot of phases don't I?
It's part of choosing to remain 14 years old mentally in a 35 year old body I guess

I think weets, you should look closer at the toy section of your pound shop. Do they have any toy cranes or any sort of plastic girder beams? Your BG photos are cool, but I think you should branch out into terrain with a photo backdrop diorama piece of some kind. Make it so it fits on your shelf for storage. For your close-ups, it wouldn't need to be too big.

Post by: weetyskemian44

Its tempting to convert him - make his stupid hands smaller and reposition the arms, maybe gun-swap for a something a bit more believable - he could look great! I think he looks more like chaos than an inquisitor - maybe he is turning to the darkside. The problem I have with that is that he is worth about 15 quid and that makes him a valuable antique compared to most minis so cutting him up is hard to contemplate. Monkeytroll would know what to do.

Quest for Perfection, Crimson fists & Helbrute @ 2012/12/14 19:12:43

Post by: Valhalla130

I wouldn't cut him up. This is exactly why I don't go after these older models, though. I follow the Prof. I. Jones school of thought: "It belongs in a museum!"

He does have some big mitts, doesn't he? lol

Quest for Perfection, Crimson fists & Helbrute @ 2012/12/14 19:55:14

Post by: monkeytroll

Definitely not a top-of-the-range sculpt.

Well, I know what I'd do with it, but that's not what everyone would do with it Don't forget that I have no compunction about cuting up rare and limited edition minis, I'm far more interested in what can be done with the parts unless it's a vey cool sculpt...and even that's no guarantee of safety.

He really doesn't need those arms at all, he'd be far more comfortable some writhing tentacles in their place I feel - although to be fair, that could just be because I'm on a tentacle tip at the moment (not literally I hasten to add - I've not converted the boat into some kind of hentai theme park).

But yeah, me, I'd lose the arms for a start - that's some fugly weaponry he's kitted himself out with. Hat needs a bit of work too

At the very least I'd say you need to swap the weapons - but do you want him as a cool mini, or as a bit of history? That's where you'll find your answer.

He's obviously a Radical Inquisitor, using those demon weapons and strange alien weaponry to fight the Imperium's enemies. Looks like he might have some of the taint in him.

Interesting. I like two of those commissars at the bottom of the Solo Legends page:

2. The one with the book raised above his head because I like books.

Dude with the tie!! Amazing. The shear unfocused genius of it.

I love books too.

Thanks neil. I am totally into realism now - at least when it comes to humans! Eldar and such are exempt from realism. I really enjoy making them look real - I'm going to look up some pics of dirty harry before I paint that dude so I can get the colours right.

Casy I might have to get some of the remotes - but then I will have to get some of the people too or it will look silly. So I might wait till I get an airbrush. And brushfire has to wait till I have dementia and a house full of cats. Or not. We will see.

Monkeytroll I knew you would think he needed tentacles. Nothing wrong with hentai so long as all the cartoons are over 16. Actually there is a lot wrong with hentai but whatayagonado.

I'm just not ready for weasels badgers and stoats yet! I'm wishing I had bought more from hasslefree now as I'm really enjoying painting them. As you say I made a special effort to make the fabric look real (aided by the fact that it was sculpted realistically) The wooly sweater specifically got some subtle work with the brush to give it woolyness and I tried to make the trousers look smooth and ironed and nylon.

Looking forward to you posting up a brushfire blog - send us a link when you do.

Also, I keep seeing your Blog title and excitedly jump in hoping to see some genestealer hybrids...any more coming on that front in the near future?

HI Fango! There are two hybrids left to roll out (and a whole box full of crappy plastic space hulk ones which I might try converting). They are near the top of my "want to paint" list (space marines are right down at the bottom I'm afraid). I assume the heresy models you mean are the ones that look like delaques. Heresy seems to me to be an exercise in dodging copyright - which I'm all in favour of of course. More variety for the gamer and profits for the small business.

Thanks for the complements everyone, they make me smile. They do look rather good don't they. I've been trying to improve my skills and stuff. Obviously it helps that Kev the hasslefree guy is a superb sculptor, and that vallejo make excellent paints. I will keep on trying to improve (because I may as well).

I'm Going for a more colourful palette on Andreah. I'm thinking purple, but I'm not quite sure yet - I wonder if anyone else has painted her recently. A search shows one example by "painting possum" who has given her a shiny (rubber?) black coat and purple dreds - I may swap that around for mine.

Monkeytroll I love the way you've equated man-flu with the end of the world!! Get well soon.

How well does your fabric painting style hold up to batch painting? I have a horde of LotR elves to paint and they all need black robes, some tips would be much appreciated!

Quest for Perfection, Crimson fists & Helbrute @ 2012/12/20 15:48:13

Post by: weetyskemian44

Hey commander I think the style should hold up - I paint almost everything except skin fairly quickly - washes are very quick to use and batch painting will allow time for drying. For black I have P3 armour wash (very similar to the old GW one. I like to apply it in layers and occasionally tint it slightly with a colour depending on the look I want. I think of it as like painting with watercolours - you use the underlying white primer as your highlight and move the wash around to where you need it don't just let it stay where it will. You need a steady hand. Sometimes I apply it over grey primer instead of white. Gives a less stark highlight.

I got a Micron pen from the shops today! Hooray and it it is only 0.05mm!

Ahh, that makes sense! Shame all my guys are basecoated black so I will have to stick to my old ways for now.

Don't worry bout me monkeytroll I live quite high above sea level! We are battening down the hatches and have stocked up on candles.

Heres my micron pen smiley face - this photo is fairly low resolution - She is so small its hard to focus. I need to sort out my camera skills

But also gitsplitta I used them for space queens pupils. Using the power of interlocking hands to get really steady I just very slowly pushed it against her eyes. Also have now wiped gloss varnish over the top of the eyes and lips to give glistening effect. Good stuff now Ijust have to try and decide what colour her clothes and hair are. Really hard decisions need to be made now..

Thanks vallhalla I used lip gloss and blusher and tons of mascara.

Wow... I remember when I first started following your blog, your work was brilliant, but now, it's just a whole new level of beauty. You improve your skills quicker than most people paint their miniatures!

I can say, without doubt, that in my opinion, this is looking to be your best so far. I can't wait to see her finished.

So Iffy is painting the same model right now? I'd like to follow that in parallel, could someone throw me a link please? That's the Irish, commission painter lassie, yeh?

always interlock the hands graven! When learning to throw pots on the wheel they teach you to interlock the hands to get really steady as its essential for symmetrical pottery - for just everyday painting resting one hand against the other is enough - you may find that you've been doing it anyway subconsciously. But to get a really steady brush or pen fully lock those hands together.

Thanks Neil I hope so.

Freshly minted new-look squat. I've got a few squats left to paint - heavy weapons and bike. They will be painted like this. I may strip some of the other painted squats and re-do them.

This is the squat I just received in the mail from ebay. I couldn't find it on Stuff of Legends, so I had to searcht thru your thread to find the right one. It may be a while before it's painted. All my stuff was stored in the closet while my daughter is here so she has a place to do her homework.

Your painting skill has improved. Not saying it was bad to begin with, it's just noticeably different. Flesh tones are very well blended, colors subdued but still sharp, very clean and defined lines... great job all around!

Hello - long time since I was ere. I have been ill with the flu. Terrible excuse I know but the constant shivering and strange visual hallucinations threw me off my game. But I feel better now. Spent a lot of my holidays reading all 146 pages. Some beautiful pieces here Weety your painting was good to start with but the blending has got smoother and the faces more realistic with time.

Great to see so many rogue trader minis painted up. I am a bit of a rt fanatic myself but they are almost all still unppainted. This log may just be the inspiration I need to get started.

Looking great so far Weety. I would say that her earings look great white. Very remanicent of 1980's faux pearls. Can remember that my Mother wore them alot back then. Big, dangly and rediculous! On this fig, as white, they are subtle and put the emphasis back on the models face and not on the jewelry. Would still go for gold on the necklace though.

Looking great, weets. Do you always start with preshading now? It sounds like a good way to go. You've probably answered this before but how do you go about the preshade stage? It looks like white bascoat, black wash, white highlight but I could be wrong.

You are correct Casy's law. It seems to be the way to go - has to be done carefully though so as to achieve subtlety.

Not painting atm. Don't know why. I think I'm tired of straining my eyes. January sucks and I just want to hide under blankets and play skyrim.

On skyrim I have a strange way of playing in that when my character gets to level 40 or so I get fed up and start again - I just find the game so much more fun when the weapons look realistic, the bandits are dangerous and the map is full of empty spaces. Also I find being interupted by dragons all the time a pain in the ass so I generally leave the main quest these days. My boyfriend moans at me whenever I start again - he is the kind of player that used the oghma infinium cheat to get max stats and then spent the rest of the game being practically invincible. I like to play on a knife edge where blocking an attack is the difference between life and death.

Yeah I get that. There comes a point where you stand there surrounded by 10 soldiers, 5 stormcloaks, 3 Ice wraiths, 2 dragons, etc... you've not got a scatch and think "this could maybe be a little more challenging".

I will try and max out the stats on the current character (by natural means) and the first few playthroughs I did set about completing all the quests and once that's done I'll go out and try to find everthing on the map. After that it just becomes "collect everything" which I do anyway as it is my natural tendancy.

Hope to see some painting here soon, when you're ready.
If you want some inspiration, and haven't yet, go watch the interview on Ifalna's blog. Edit: I see you have!

Just to reassure everybody I am not dead, just hibernating. Recently looked at my collection and remembered vaguely that I used to "paint" them with a thing called a "brush". I even noticed a few under a thick layer of dust, cobwebs and alluvial silt. I can assure everyone that when my fingers defrost in the spring I might just pick up where I left off halfway through a miniature. In the meantime -brrrrr its cold - get my hands back under the covers - wish I could type with chopsticks. Price of gas is up and npower will not have any b*starding money from me. No I will keep it all and put it in a pile and burn it for heat.

Here are a few withnail quotes to illustrate my predicament

Withnail: This place is uninhabitable.
Marwood: Give it a chance. It's got to warm up.
Withnail: Warm up? We may as well sit round this cigarette. This is ridiculous. We'll be found dead in here next spring

Withnail: [after having entirely covered himself in muscle embrocation] Have you been at the controls?
Marwood: What are you talking about?
Withnail: The thermostats. What have you done to them?
Marwood: I haven't touched them.
Withnail: Then why has my head gone numb?

Withnail: How can it be so cold in here? It's like Greenland in here. We've got to get some booze. It's the only solution to this intense cold.

So cheer up and tell the crickets to go on without me, I'll only slow them down.

From what I know the parts of the language that are anglo-saxon (old german) are the short fricative words and the long complicated words are Latinate (french/Italian). The norse throw a spanner in that simple dichotomy and of course There are many words from india that came in during the empire.

Its fun to speak a really complicated language.

It is that. When kids/colleagues ask me this question I get very over-excited and start talking about indo-european languages... But, yeah, the lady has the nub of it (less so the fricative bit). Compound words tend to be latinate and higher-status. Go on the Norman invasion.

Amazingly I have painted something. About time too.

This character is a very old 80s techpriest. For some reason everything metallic steel has come out grey in the photos - oh well - maybe I need a direct light source as well as the diffused ones to bring out the glint of the steel. It was a fairly relaxed paintjob as I try and ease myself back in, but I think it works well.

Here it is;

also finished my inquisitor - gave him dirty white hair and a few subtle tones.

I will be painting more hopefully, I think the muse is back.

I just love the deep red shadows in the yellow, I suppose he is meant to be an ochre colour, always a good colour for an ancient suit of power armour. And the power axe fade is becoming a favorite of mine. I will get a full rainbow on a power weapon one of these days.

Unfortunatly my new camera has died - I think its battery died and now it won't turn back on even though plugged it into the charger for hours. So its back to the old standby and you may notice some loss of image quality.

I've been making bases out of GS and sand which are going to be for the hasslefree minis - kind of an urban thing with kerbstones and asphalt.

Also finished a delaque jumping over a pipe. definitely don't lake the way my old camera has taken this one - looks odd.

Bases are good. Simple but effective.

and the delaque looks good. Face is very good and that's a very PURPLE purple coat he has (in a good way).

Great update, Weety!

I really like the bases and the ganger. The curbstones are probably the best part of the topmost bases. They have a good thickness and the slightly variable heights and edges make them look more interesting. They kind of remind me of some of the curbs that I saw in Iraq, where uniformity was a rarity.

The ganger is a lot of fun to look at. His skin tones, goggles, and grimace are especially appealing. I like the purple coat though it makes me think of the phrase, "See the violets inherent in the system!". Odd, but that's me.

He has a nice base too. Did you make that one as well?

Nice bases! Very universal-looking too! The Delaque looks great, maybe your old camera is more light sensitive? Try backing the lamp up some? His forehead glares like my 5th grade English teacher's did

Time for a massive update. Here we see another mercenary (v wonky model), I had some fun with the floor tiles on this one.

A genestealer hybrid - looking good on this one - It looks dark and shadowy and the blending is smooth...

Also these berserkers got some base love.

Here is Alyx from hasslefree miniatures. A bit of a showcase model. The thing I love about hasslefree is the cool poses and the way the model looks legit from all angles

and it looks nice on your base.

and nice tiles on the wonky bloke's base.

The Hybrid looks great. How'd do the skin tone for him?

Really nice paint job on the Bezerkers.

Hi everyone - A quick flying update. I may be taking part in the infinity "two tickets to paradiso" competition. I'm having trouble finding a model though - It has to be under ten british pounds (inc. postage) as I'm on a budget. Preferably a lot under so can afford a jungle base. So many to choose from.

Also I painted an eldar to get me in the mood for smooth armour plates and high technology.

He is very nice although I'm not 100% on the yellow - it's a bit samey. If I had any inifinity minis, I'd send you one! However, I do have brass etch jungle foliage, and will happily send some if you want?

Quest for Perfection, Crimson fists & Helbrute @ 2013/06/12 06:00:18

Post by: weetyskemian44

Thanks Dr M and gitsplitta I'll tell you how I do it. Dysartes no I don't think I ever did do a tutorial.

Well I've got no pictures but basically I use the really viscous vallejo washes I've got, Hold the model upside-down, and then delicately paint on a droplet of the wash. Then gravity does its work sending the pigment to the top of the gem and giving a nice gradual fade. After its dry I tidy it up with smaller amounts of wash, add a darker tone to the very top of the gem and then find a spot for the white dot. Simples. The Upsidedown gem wash trick.

I think I like the sound of the aleph casy's law. They have less historical baggage than the others.

inmygravenimage If you can spare a few scraps and the price of the stamp I could definitely use a sample. The competition blurb mentions jungle and although Casy's law said it was ok to do any kind of environment so long as it looks hostile I'm not taking any chances with the fickle voting public - I have plans for greenstuff venus flytraps. Plans that will probably fall apart in the attempt.

If I had anything useful I'd send you it to help out but I just have bits and chopped up sections of bodies.

If Aleph is floating your boat then your in luck, I had a look and Shae has a lot of good stuff for about £5 each. P&P is 90p so you could get two nice minis delivered pretty quickly for under a tenner.

The greenstuff flytraps sound great. I don't think I've seen your sculpts before which means you are very subtle which is impressive or it's new territory which is awesome!

Quest for Perfection, Crimson fists & Helbrute @ 2013/06/12 12:28:53

Post by: weetyskemian44

I have occasionally used greenstuff for repair on old, vandalised minis and you wouldn't have noticed it then I hope - the only real sculpting I've done is on my unfinished genestealer hybrid limo (main exhibit on my shelf of shame). I think I was getting quite good but then I got distracted. Here is a few pics to jog your memory

And thanks for the tip I will go have a look at that thread.

Oh yes! Thanks for the repost, I got really inspired by that at the time, you did a great job on it!

I hope you find something that works for you with Shae, he has quite a few cool Aleph models in there, Myrmidons and Devas stood out to me, Probots too which would be nice for a diorama type thing on a slightly larger base.

The main thing is to enjoy the challenge.

Thanks chaps I am pleased to get some feedback on the juve.

Gits - I like to think I changed more than the skin tone! The whole light/dark balance is changed. Also I have really been trying to pull the composition of the whole model together like a painting so that its more of a display piece. Come on, get with the programme gits!!! (I'm kidding of course)

Dr H yeah I debated whether to add a little lip colour or not but then I thought t'hell with it a good juve should look like private vasquez. Gets them them the ladies. Perhaps maybe I went overboard with the lippy on second thoughts.

Cheers Casey the fabric patterns are my favourite part of the model too. A lesson learned through practice I guess, I've painted a lot of orlocks. I'm trying to get a simplified feel of the classic crip/blood bandanna pattern I see in films.

Hey vallhalla I'm glad you loved the dino rider - I wasn't quite sure about him, the colour clash between the pale blue-white dinosaur and the sepia camo armour messes with my eyes a bit.

Very nice weets! I'm playing about with a load of marine bits right now to try and get something very reminiscent of 3e art out of them. I'm going to be using a very similar pallet to the Juve but even more extreme, I'm throwing realism out the window. I'm banking him for inspiration if you don't mind!

You are an artist yeh? Have you ever been in a situation where you've had to compromise your vision? I'm feeling very down and frustrated about having to 'make do' right now to get a small army on the table and could use some advice from the experienced...

compromise my vision? No we usually wear safety goggles when using the dangerous chemicals... but joking aside I suppose my entire artistic education has been a process of compromise. I've been through years of changing my ideas to get the grades and sell the work. I'm fed up with it now which is why I only paint miniatures. Because I don't actually play wargames they are just for fun and I can do whatever I like. One day maybe I will return to painting and sculpting on a larger scale, when the market is more buoyant. I don't really mind painting and sculpting to order as there is money and an ego boost if the customer is pleased. Anyway enough rambling on about that. The thing is you can't always do your best work if you are under time pressure. You have just gotta paint and be damned.

Thankyou all for looking. Infinity soon.

Nothing doing yet on that front - the equipment is in storage and I'm waiting for better circumstances. I'll just have to concentrate on making things that don't require thousand degree heat to finish. Next time I have a studio I'm going to make things from stoneware as this is much more hardwearing (I've had a lot of my mugs chip in the wash). Stoneware needs a 1300C heat and is actually vitrified (turned to stone) by the heat.

I'm trying to make a start on some more models today, another juve and an old imperial agent. Having some trouble with the agent, he appears to have had a base coat of something black and hard that won't come off easy.

Problems with buying an infinity miniature are solved - I went with wayland games in the end because they let you pay by debit instead of bloody paypal. Apparently paypal will only do instant transfer now if you have a credit card. I try and avoid the things. Debt is very bad for peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice weets! It's a struggle but I'll likely throw up a thread and vent my frustration while I try and find a compromise that doesn't make me hate what I'm doing.

This no update thing is killing me, so if you'll excuse me a I will waffle on without pictures for a bit.

The whole competition thing is going well and I was eyeing up the prizes. I like contemplating the infinity voucher - I hadn't really thought of collecting infinity before but presented with the possibility of a free hand I'm beginning to like a few of them.

I have absolutely no idea what I would do with the zariart voucher - there don't seem to be any pics of models on the site and I had never considered wearing airbrushed clothes b4 and I have never even pretended to skateboard.

Of course that's assuming I win something, there's some heavy dudes entering the competition.

The base of my infinity model is totally finished and I am pleased, All my minute plans came together and it is looking verdant. Vallejo Varnish does make good water effects!

The model remains primed and ready - I have put aside the whole of tomorrow if necessary.

There will be pretty colours.

It is very nearly done - but of course you will have to wait till monday to see pics. I would have taken more time over it but our local town's pagan festival/carnival starts tomorrow and there is outdoor street drinking to be done. It is traditional to get blind drunk and watch a big procession of giant paper mache objects, last year there was a shark, several pirate ships, a giant and a leopard amongst others. And they close all the streets so you won't get run over. Tens of thousands of hippies will descend from across Cornwall and the police turn a very blind eye to the ensuing fun. I will not be able to hold a brush steady for several days after this.

Everyone falls for Infinity eventually!

I'm glad your enjoying this weets! And it's always fun to figure out what you'd do with a prize if you win, like the lottery. Zariart will airbrush pretty much anything he can get paint to stick to so there is a lot of scope, he'll work on canvas too. I imagine most stuff would require some additional funds but I'm sure he can work with the winners to come up with prizes that work within the voucher.

Enjoy your Gala Day type thing and finishing your mini!

Taking photos now with a Fujifilm Finepix HS20 EXR

My other half is such an ass when I use his camera - He pretty much took over halfway through. Its like his baby. Very expensive camera.

Well thankyou Color Sgt. Anything in particular or all 150 pages? I find that thread view thing invaluable nowadays.

Returning to the oldschool to try and redeem an old figure, this is an imperial agent from the RT space adventurers range. He suffers slightly from stupid clown shoe syndrome. If I knew what I was doing I might have tried to shave them down to size but I'm afraid of lead poisoning. Something to be aware of when cutting old miniatures.

Here tis

A great tool is to simply glue some sandpaper to a piece of wood or thick plasticard, and then rub the offending pieces (in this case, the bottom of the mini's feet) along the sandpaper. Then, dispose of the sandpaper. You really have to lick up the residue to worry about lead poisoning.
