Yeah, it does take a while to reach the level you need to train in the Power armor from the Brotherhood of steel, or go into the simulator of the Outcasts if you have that DLC. Lvl 10 at least.

Like Dave said, grab what does not slow you down, and then sell like crazy to merchants and caravaners.

Make it your goal to take all of the merchant's caps, whenever possible, every time.

I found out it helps to leave them with no more than 5caps after dealing with them, they get more later.

i think that emossed treadsecure plate is next to the best thing in looks as rivets... i have a sheat at my desk but for now haven´t found a use for it...as i atm don´t do terrain...maybe i try it out for my next tank...whenever that might happen...

as for off topic... i think it is always the same bunch of fellas there...rather like a private club and no newbs are allowed... so after some few tries i decided to skip it totally... beside...the leagues threads are often so off topic as well that i get tow for one bargain anyway^^

hey dave... so does the addition to your chop-it work good? i need to fix that soon...so first hand info is apreciated^^

cheers...and damn...when had i last have to read through 2 pages worth of backlog here...??? oh and nice of you to join sparky^^

oh and as for FO3... i tend to wear the next best thing to the brother hood of steel armor... and for me the only addition would be the extra strenght...that woul be handy for collecting even more loot^^ but for now i don´t need it...also caps...i collect rockets and drugs as a currency too...they don´t weight anything and are essential a currency that way... and i don´t use neither ....so^^ money was never any issue for me...even early on...oh an for your info...i am nearing 19 lvl i think...

Nah, not read them... a lot of the 40k books leave me cold tbh, so I tend to leave a lot of them alone... the warhammer books tend to be my thing for GW books.

Now Dave has introduced "speed scratchbuilding"!

Excellent work, DST! Unfortunately, I've never played the game, so I can't give you points for accuracy, but it looks great all the same! My only bit of CC would be to put a little work into the ammo feed on the main housing of the gun.

Keep up the great work!

Speaking of clear resin, I am considering a project using clear resin recast of the FW Eldar avatar, fiber optics, and a few LEDs . I think that the LEDs will carry enough light to light up the model and I want to terminate the ends of the optics at the eyes and mouth (brighter that way). Then paint the outer most layers of flesh in a dark solid color so that the light shines through the cracks.

I think that maybe it should have a hole all the way throught the building in one or two spots..

It could give vantage points and cover. As well as make the buildings look like they're a bit more beaten and run down.

Basically with procreate, you actually draw, it is much less editing than PS, somewhat like gimp, and almost like a stepped up version of paint. The computer does all of the highlighting and shading, as well as some of the proportions and posing, so it is very easy to get a realistic image

He'd have to opaque the windows before doing that I would have thought... plus iirc the bulk is polystyrene, which wouldn't cope well in prolonged exposure to bulb heat, then he'd need to put vents in and possibly a cooling system

Sorry to argue semantics- but regardless, the same technique would work on foamcore for creating interior PLASTER peeling (you just carve lath boards exposed instead of brick.)

There will be no internal electrical lighting, but don't get your panties in a bunch- with foamcore I actually do know what I am doing, and it will have the appearance of being lit within, trust me.

It will because the white interior will show through the semi opaque windows and fake a slight glow..... Coupled with the exterior paint job to darken up the area surrounding the windows will make it stand out more.....

Good Idea, Dave.....

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/02 13:42:51

Post by: dsteingass

It involves white card painted with alcohol markers (Prismacolor) and mounted inside the windows after it is painted. Patience is the most annoying thing, but it is required when working in foamcore. It never looks quite right until it is done

what Prismacolor markers? You can get them at any Michaels, hobby lobby or any art store. Dick Blick often has the best internet prices though. http://www.dickblick.com/products/prismacolor-premier-double-ended-art-markers/
they often compete with Art Supply Warehouse
http://www.aswexpress.com/?gclid=CIX6tLmtlq8CFQTd4AodQnow0Q
You just have to shop around for the best prices.

Prismacolor is just the brand I have, but Copic is another brand, same stuff IIRC, alcohol ink.

Yep! I am a fan of resin pieces to some extent, but I will get a hell of a lot more terrain out of $43 of materials than $43 of premade.

Tenpenny Tower

Although completely insane and impractical, the idea got me thinking about different ways to reproduce that Neo-Classical, rusticated fascia stonework used on buildings

On a more practical, game table-friendly scale of course
Just ideas...It took me half the day google-fu-ing stuff just so I could learn it was called"rusticated" and "Neo-Classical" - I knew what I wanted, but I had no idea what to even search for because I didn't know what it was called.

Hey vik - you want to find argyle - head directly (and I mean directly) west from smith casy's garage (when you've found it). You should come across a boulder with bunting across it set into a cliff - this is an entrance, but it has no location arrow so its easy to miss. That is all.

Dave build it and they will come

I like the idea of the tower build, although it would be a different direction to your current build or would you try and blend it in some how ?

Galorn@ I think large sections could be moulded and cast up in this type of design …….. do you fancy the challenge then ?

It would be something different. My first test carve last night did not work out so well. That type of masonry work is very, very straight. Unfortunately, my carving method isn't as uniform and straight. So I'll have to rethink this idea.

Just foamcore...

Even though I first scored it with an x-acto before using my magic inkpen, I don't believe this will look right.

If I make even one mistake (like above the right window) i'll have to start completely over.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/04 10:52:51

Post by: Viktor von Domm

if you follow this road dave, will there be window frames as well? some raised details? i could live with the odd error in the carving...after all it could be covered by weathring...

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/04 11:21:32

Post by: dsteingass

Well yeah Vik- this is just a test carve, you've got to take it for waht it is at the moment, a test technique piece.

Post by: Viktor von Domm

understood...but looks promising nevertheless^^

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/04 11:45:41

Post by: lone dirty dog

I think you are being over perfect at the moment Dave, this looks pretty dam good especially for the test piece, I cant see no real issue myself.

You could just do a generic building on foam card with just the brick shape, windows and door gaps, then add the decretive details later this way might limit errors and need to start over again.

Plus you could cast the main shape up and you have the basis for several buildings just alter the detail, plus everything would tie in easily together yet look different.

Any way I am impressed all ready looks promising, I might get some foam card to do this myself for my display shelf ….

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/04 13:41:06

What counts is that Dave makes building scenery that folks would love to play their games amongst!

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/04 14:44:39

Post by: dsteingass

I'd like to hope so anyways!

If your goal is to reproduce Gothic architecture- you have no choice but to make the arches correctly, otherwise it will look wrong to the viewer. The same applies to any style. It isn't a matter of being over-perfect- it just is what it is. This style of rusticated facade IRL consists of perfectly straight masonry lines. If I can't make the lines perfectly straight in the foamcore, then it won't resemble the original, and it just isn't a viable idea. We will see though, I haven't given it up completely. I'll play with it some more.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/04 15:37:40

Post by: Galorn

Hmm try a old fashioned number 2 Pencil to score in the lines... im told It sort of self lubricates due to the graphite.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/04 16:18:20

Post by: RSJake

Dave, I would not use foam core for this if I were you. It just doesn't seem to give the look you're going for. How about trying to cut the "bricks" out of styrene sheet, and then glue them in the straight lines you are trying for? More work, yes, but you would get straighter edges.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/04/04 16:21:53

Post by: dsteingass

True, but then I have the problem of what to use for window panes, architectural greeblies, etc. I dunno, like I said, it was just an idea, even if it is somewhat half-baked. Good exploratory stuff though.

personaly i see many uses for foamcore for building terrain... but with this idea (i henceforth will call it an idea...not an actual project...devils advocat...) i think a different material would be better... namly wood...balsa wood... i think this material will later on bring all the shapes you need and would provide the thickness needed...

but the main problem here is if you are perhaps getting yourself into a dead end...? too much of a good thing and all? if the good thing might be the style and the fun FO3 provided you with maybe you should take a step aside and do something differntly?

my suggestion... build us a tank from scratch... or...for that matter... get yourself around the idea (see?!) to build yourself something moveable for your table...you had that fancy lifter idea....later on that earlier mentioned idea can be revisited...

Yeah something has to change soon, job causes stress, which causes sickness, which causes you to pay doctors, Then the company cuts your insurance benefit, which causes more stress.....repeat as necessary.

Hope you don't mind me asking Dave, but have you seen the doctor about depression?

I'm a depressive, have been since I was about ten... which is 18 years now... only just started to sort myself out in the last year or so. Well what I'm trying to say is it might be worth a look. Hope that wasn't too forward or anything...

Dont go down this road, I suffered with a few spouts of depression it's a gak to get out of once it takes hold, look for warning signs ( you get used to them ).

It was mainly because of work (no big surprise there then) now I take the view feth em and it works, I ask my self the question when I start to feel stressed is it worth it, the answer is NO.

Smile and just think I may hate my job but it will end soon however you will be you every day of your life, a complete arse hole that you cant get away from.

There now don't you feel better

Dave I did not mean you were being a perfectionist out right, I meant as a test piece it was dam good, plus you found the faults or potential issues and now know how to try to rectify them.

I would say that was a good out come my self

LDD take it from someone who knows. Depression is not something you can shrug off or ignore. I tried that for 17 years...

But I'm not going to turn this into an argument.

Dave if I can help with what I mentioned, just inbox me dude

No, it's not that. Really it isn't.

See, i'm kind of like TRON, I defend the users from the evil red guys in Zurich, Switzerland who are out to destroy them. I do this for a living, by choice. For the past 4 years we have worked our asses off, doing more and more and more work, We do so well, we get our contract renewed, and after 4 years with no pay raise, they give me $0.37/hr raise, but also raise the cost ofbenefits $2.00/hr.

My company MAKES $100,000.00/year on EACH of us on top of the pittance they pay us. It's legalized highway robbery!

This isn't depression, it's fething insanity my freind! I'm a crazy motherfether! LOL

Dont get me wrong I was not saying you can shrug it off, it's an illness which I have suffered with at times which also I am not going to disgust on here.

What I meant was you have to look out for triggers and the causes of stress, the point of my job which was the main factor of mine I have learnt over a long time to deal with.

Plus my uncle suffered from bipolar so i understand how bad depression can go, sorry if you felt I was trying to undermined this illness anyway as this was not my intention.

Looks like this strategy is been taken up by all business then, our company is making more profit than it did last year but has to lay staff of go figure.

You aint wrong their, promotion means removal of sense of humour, personality and humanity, replaced with ignorance, arrogance and a blame culture attitude .

Yeah, I understand Dave. After 16 years in retail I am finally out! I decided with the help of my wife to try something new. So in two weeks I begin my new adventure!

Sometimes you need a change in your job. Even if you do the same job for a different company. Easier said then done I know, but don't let your job effect your life in a negative way. We all eat gak at work from time you time but if your FULL then if may be time to move on.

Just my two cents!

I was a great boss! Always scored high on anonymous employee engagement surveys. I was a retail manager for 12 years. I didn't change much after being promoted. Maybe I am an anomaly.

dsteingass wrote:True, but then I have the problem of what to use for window panes, architectural greeblies, etc. I dunno, like I said, it was just an idea, even if it is somewhat half-baked. Good exploratory stuff though.

There are solutions.
Either stick with plastic card, if you're cutting individual bricks, your skill is enough to make your own window frames, or go to a hobby/train store, you can by packs of windows.

My friend thought he was depressed for years - it turned out it was just that his life sucked and he was surrounded by arse-holes...

I know how you feel about you job dude - mine is mega lame. I would be depressed too but thanks to payroll cuts I'm hardly ever there! (lol). Actually no that's a lie - three people quit and now I'm working every friggin day.

I second wood as the perfect medium for straight lines - something with a nice fine grain and no knots.
