I've been following this thread for a while in order to see what anime to track down when I get the chance. There has been a few things that have caught my eye. However...
Out of the pictures that AduroT showed earlier, I can say that this one suited me best.
I really enjoyed Akira (and even have the Manga) and I liked both Paprika and Perfect Blue. I haven't seen Redline, so that is added to my list of anime to find. Looks similar to Dead Leaves.
With that in mind, and that I'm in the process of collecting all the Studio Ghibli films and I'm a big fan of GitS... <=== Obviously...
What can you recommend to add to my list? I'm very much into it for the artwork, probably more-so than for the story. But a good story is also nice.
I kinda wish they had waited to reveal the Akatsuki. leader.
On another note (Spoilers on the leader of the Akatsuki Be warned)
Spoiler:
What's up with there being more Uchiha? I thought it was just the brothers? The leader of the Akatsuki being an Uchiha who fought the first Hokage is interesting, but it seems almost copout-ish to make him an Uchiha. Why not make him something more? a Jinchuriki for example? (NO spoilers)
Ah. This is the point where Naruto stops even having the pretense of being a "Ninja" show/manga, and just wholeheartedly admits that Shinobi are basically Wizards that know kung-fu. Madara is essentially a Liche.
All caught up on Irregular highschool. I'm starting to lose interest in it though tbh. I do not tend to like main characters like the one in the show. The too cool for school silent types that are perfect at everything.
When Shinsekai Yori first came out I didn't hear about, so I started it a couple days ago. An man I'm lovin it! As the show goes on it's actually gets more interesting and drives me to watch more episodes to see what happens next. I really like anime like this, that have just a long ongoing story instead of filler episodes with an overarching plot. It does make it harder to find places to pause and the show a little dry at times, but Shinsekai Yori has a good enough story to keep me interested.
CthuluIsSpy wrote: Yeah, and the dub really knows how to get the crazy voice down.
Especially Rena; hearing her talk about Oyashiro always gives me chills.
Forgot to reply to this, Rena is pretty much my favorite character hands down. I still need to finish the second season, although if I remember correctly the first season ends on an alright note. The only arc I end up fast forwarding through is the weird one with the detective in the future or whatever. Very bland and slow. But back to Rena, this is currently my desktop
I know, the last arc of the first season really develops her character. I think Mion would be my favorite, though I like all the characters. Something that doesn't happen that often when it comes to horror, really.
The first episode of the Second Season covers the aftermath of the Season 1 finale. I suggest watching it. It is a bit slow, but it does fill in some gaps.

All eps should be watched, tbh. All of them offer some kind of info or explanation about what happened. And once the truth has been revealed, you'll understand what really was going on and why there's so many arcs.

Ya I'm like halfway done with the second season. It already explains all the different arcs back in the first season though, during the last arc.
Err I may be wrong about this^ I'm starting over from the beginning so I'll find out eventually lol

Alright, I'll give that a go after I finish Angel Beats later in the day today. Gotta glad I found this one. Damn good music, I like the animation, good stuff all the way around.
I think the above gif captures perfectly how much I hate what just took place in Naruto Shipp.
Spoiler:
Not only did some of the most awesome characters die but the cliffhanger with Naruto giving some of Kuaramas chakra to Hinana was just insane!
Emotions went from shocked to sadness to anger then to "squeeing" ( I think thats the best word to describe it) then back to anger since the ep ended. Looked forward to next weeks one.
For those who saw this week's NGNL and had no idea what that reference was at the end:
In case anyone is interested in what they were referencing during the preview, this is the note I left the show's editor explaining it:
Well, this is probably... incomprehensible to an English speaking audience, so I will explain for the benefit of editors and other people who might care. In an obscure SNES RPG called Bahamut Lagoon that has no english localization, or official one anyway, a hero and king of a certain country takes his queen for a ride on his dragon, Salamander. "It's so fast!" she yells happily. Years later, when he's away on a journey, she has an affair with a general from a neighboring country, who also takes her for a ride on his dragon. (I mean literal dragons here, btw, not as a metaphori- you know what, never mind.) While she's riding on his (literal) dragon, she yells, "It's way faster than Salamander!" 'cause she's a bitch? I guess? Anyway this quote, for reasons known only to the japanese, has stuck around as a metaphor for your wife or girlfriend choosing to ride another man's (metaphorical) dragon.

And Angel Beats is finished... Glad I found it. Ending had an appropriate amount of feels...
That anime was ridiculous. I was either laughing or crying. One ep would be hilarious, the next one would make me want to go into a fethal position and cry. SO many feels.
To get attached to the first Guitarist for the band and BOOM She passes on! Its only EP 3 don't make me feel like this already!
Yes, that's when I realized that anime was gonna break me...
Spoiler:
I was moved with her story: Her courage to take on the world to accomplish her dream, such courage, all this after such a rough life. Everything was going ok... then that gak happens. All because of that beating she got from her father. Yep, started crying right there and I don't think it stopped for the remainder of the episode,
To get attached to the first Guitarist for the band and BOOM She passes on! Its only EP 3 don't make me feel like this already!
I know.
I really liked that character. She was one of my favorites Angel Beats is possibly the only show I've seen that hit the metaphorical feel button with sufficient strength.
Aye, Its one of the top. Many Feels were had all throughout. Consequently its one of the few Animes Ive felt alright with the ending of. Don't get me wrong, I'd hop on the feels train for a 2nd season, But the way it left off felt right. One of the few I wont tear my hair out because its not continuing.
On the bright side I have a ton more Awesome Music thanks to the show so there's that as well!

Also Re-Watched High School of the Dead Recently as well. Really hope that ends up continuing as well.. Eventually...
EDIT: Anyone have anything they'd recommend? Need something new to watch..
Well you seem to like big tittie animes so that's a start to finding out what you'd like ;P.

It doesn't Necessarily NEED to be... Like I said by the end of DxD I was far more into the plot. Although the ladies are never unwelcome...

Yeah, that was one of my favorite bits, too.
That and
Spoiler:
Yukari's infiltration of Saunders.
Just all of Saunders, really. AMERICAAAA!!!!
Ahem.
Anywho, I'm still not sure what Nanana's Buried Treasure is, but I feel like it's channeling the spirit of all the old pulp adventure novels, and as a fan and writer of that genre myself, I'm lovin' it.
DA's Forever wrote: I finished Girls Und Panzer today. Pretty good. Tank fights are always fun to watch. My favorite moment was certaintly: Apologize to the Finnish!
They should have apologized to their track too. StuG III Gs are fething sick weapons of war and destruction not to be fethed with.
conker249 wrote: Im hoping there will be a season 3 Highschool DxD, Season 2 was great
I am too. The 3rd season will finally be getting to the volumes where the story starts revving up into the next gear.
Ive had to keep myself from reading the light novels. I want to see the story progress but if the Anime has a decent chance at proceeding I'd like to see it that way. Here's hoping.
Also gave the first Episode of Nanana's a go. Wasn't too bad. I'm willing to give it some more time to take off. Im interested at least.
Noooooo! They've changed the intro to Brynhildr in the Darkness! I loved the last one and now I'm getting my ears destroyed unexpectedly. The episode was pretty good though.
Finished all the free episodes of Nanana's. I quite like it. Its starting to pick up in the plot department and am getting hooked. Cant wait to see where it goes. This'll be the first time in along time I follow one as its ongoing. Not used to not being able to just binge watch the whole thing on a day off

I feel a little robbed at the events within.
Spoiler:
Some game of thrones level bs right there. I was super hoping I didn't just super see what I just super did. Nanami could have acted as Nekos brain backup so she would never forget again!

Meh, I was expecting it. Also, I cringed really hard at the end when everyone was talking about how happy they were...
poppa G wrote: I....I just can't watch Angel Beats. It's so boring. Why do people like it?
To each there own. I found it pretty interesting off the bat. If it hasn't hooked you by EP 3 you can probably give it a pass. IF it hasn't gotten you by then it more than likely wont. I loved it, but as said. To each there own.
I like to think it's Anime Obliviousness combined with a strange cultural imperative to not think about other people too hard and take them at face value.
I haven't really watched any new anime, but I cought an episode of yugioh classic. Watching that show with m dad is probably the only good memories I have of living with them.
I'm finding that I can't really get into Black Bullet, M3, and Ping Pong. I don't know why, but none of those shows are really doing much for me. Now, Chaika, Yowamushi Pedal, Sidonia, Majin Bone, and No Game No Life are all ones I'm really enjoying. Especially Yowamushi Pedal. That one took a little while to warm up to, but I've really enjoyed the Interhigh stuff.
Noragami was one excellent anime. Even the OP never failed to entertain, it's really well done and not counting KLK since it started the previous season, it was probably my favorite anime last season.
I'm unable to watch any anime until Saturday but thanks to your comments I think I'm gonna be pretty bummed after I see this week's Black Bullet... I do like the lolis so I'm guessing something nasty happens to them... oh dear...
@DA's Forever - I disliked IS2 because the quality just starts slipping after a certain point. Some of the eps were downright boring.
Well, finally watched the final 4 Durarara eps... I find it weird how I loved the first "arc", the 2nd I started getting "meh" and downright hated the last one.
Spoiler:
Still, can't complain about the final ep, got some Yuri action and one final "IIII-ZAAAA-YYAAAAA-KUUUUNNNN" while he throws a traffic sign
True enough. Im just interested in where everything is going, But you are right, if a 3rd season continued the slide it'd probably be for the best that we stopped.
So I'm watching the Valkyria Chronicles anime. feth me running with a chainsaw. The intro and first ep have made me haaaaaaaaaaaaaaate it. It was, to borrow and slightly paraphrase from Yahtzee's review of the game "Christopher Robin and friends going out to defend the 100 acre woods from mean old farmer Hitler." Five episodes have not improved it from that initial pile of naive fetted compost, but it is slightly more tolerable. Not much more tolerable, but slightly. I already want to kick the Tsundere into a wood chipper, with the lecherous captain from 1st squad right behind her. The male lead is interesting in that he's the only one in this anime who talks like he's actually seen or studied combat in any way, especially when he talks about the vitality of preserving one's own life. He's no Patton, but he could be worse. That's my real issue. There's actually good characters in here. The disgruntled militia veterans, Mr. Rocket Lance who's missing part of his beard and his sassy female companion are stand outs for me as individuals I enjoy, even if they're playing to type a bit more then needed. I also rather enjoy the scaredy cat rich girl Suzie. I'd like to see her whipped into something resembling a proper soldier.
I remember watching that for a while, but I remember I stopped near ep8 or something. I don't remember if the anime is as disturbing as the game.
I watched some of it in a Let's Play and it's disturbing how
Spoiler:
cheerful and happy the characters are when they kill an enemy. Seriously, they are like "YAY! MURDER!". And in the first village, you have civilians dying everywhere, enemy soldiers shooting them in the back while they run all that, and everything is so... cheerful and happy.
I mean we definitely already had this conversation about noragami being amazing when the show was airing. It seems no one paid any attention to that, buried underneath all that kill la kill gak. But it was definitely passed over by a lot of people at the time it was airing, there were arguably a couple of popular shows airing at the time. Not gonna lie I definitely called that this would happen lol I would also highly reccomend hamatora from that season of shows. It really delivers at the end and has an awesome soundtrack

where I spend around 30 seconds watching a guy doing push-ups so he sweats, creating this mind-control "mist" that makes guys loving him ...
That moment something clicked inside my head and I just went "feth this gak! Dropped!".
I need to finish Tokyo Ravens. I really like it... I just have issues getting motivated to get my arse over to funimation's website. I need to finish D Frag too...
AduroT wrote: The sweat thing was to give you a dose of silly before the show went full on grim dark, which it did before the end.
Then I may give it another chance. This makes me happy.
Haha ya the show definitely has it's flaws. I found that episode to be rather funny, and watching it with friends made it easier. But I do agree that something like that is something that generally turns me away from shows( I prefer serious), and I might even go as far as to day I thought it was dumb lol but like Aduro said, the show does bounce around between very serious and very silly. It's a series that is episodic, so of course some episodes will be amazing and some will be sweaty x-men :p I recommend hamatora bc I think the over arching plot is interesting an has/ still has the potential to lead to greatness. Right now it's a bit of a let down, but still a good let down. Like space dandy
KalashnikovMarine wrote: I need to finish Tokyo Ravens. I really like it... I just have issues getting motivated to get my arse over to funimation's website. I need to finish D Frag too...
I have that same problem, and I have no idea why.
worth it for D-Frag though. Truly that anime is a reflection of the inner workings of video game designers... when they're on acid.
feth that world's humanity. feth it to hell. Just like in the Game of Thrones I want to read the White Walkers crossing the Wall and annihilate Westeros, I now want to see Gastrea crossing that barrier.
I've kinda felt like that from the start. Their whole society's pretty fethed up. Relying on the cursed children for protection but otherwise outcasting them, abusing them, killing them...
Makes you wonder who the real monsters are don't it?
Reaction to the dub has been somewhat muted, with people saying that Senketsu should be older sounding, and that Satsuki isn't sufficiently authoritative. Oh, and Mako mispronounces her own surname! For my part, I'll wait until the voices are fully processed and mixed into the soundtrack before judging. However, the initial release in multiple small volumes will add up to silly prices in the first instance, so that may not be for a while. As of this preview thought the dub's gonna be a flop for me I think. On a scale of Love Hina to Hellsing Ultimate in terms of dub voice acting I think we're looking at middle ground work barring something incredible happening in post. It's just not going to top the original cast for me.
In other news, holy feth.
Holy feth.
*squees internally* judge me all you want fethers I have no shame in admitting I really like Sailor Moon. (Speaking of terrible dubs...)
Sailor Moon was probably the first anime I ever saw... I'm quite found of it and although it was portuguese dubbed, including the OP and Ending, I love the song.
I too am not shamed to say I eagerly await the remake Plus, I'll get to see Sailor Mars kicking ass again. Oh Sailor Mars, you so sexy <3
Sailor Mars is almost certainly where my thing for shrine maidens comes from.
Gotta love the original, though I like the Portuguese Op!
New OP is by the incredible Momoiro Clover Z, who as you'll recall is the idol group who have recorded a track with the guitarist from Megadeth and are in fact an SM inspired Sentai/Magical Girl team on stage complete with transforming belts.
It was definitely the first anime I ever saw, though I dunno if I'd like it nowadays. That and robotech. But I remember sailor moon being on tv in the morning before school well back in the gradeschool days... I think, robotech was at least a couple of years later.
My first anime was Eureka seven, which was definitely not crap, and definitely a really good example of a good first show to watch. My god my young mind was not ready for some of the more mind screwy bits.
First Anime period? Spirited away. My Dad got it for us to watch from Netflix.
First Anime series? I watched the first 30 eps or so of Fullmetal Alchemist. (The original) before swapping over to Naruto.
Regarding Dubs, I didn't even think they'd dub Anime into Portuguese. I always thought it was Japanese, English, Spanish, or French or you'd have to find understandable subbed versions
So where's a good place to Watch Clannad? Crunchy doesnt have it and everywhere else seems to re-stream it via Hulu. I just hate Hulu's ad's I dont mind ads in general, Crunchy does a good job theres not a ton. Hulu seems to just throw crap tons of them at me.
As for the discussion at hand. My very first Anime was Probably Inuyasha back when I was a kid. To this day I still dont think I've ever watched the whole thing front to back...
^Oooh me either, but I did enjoy watching the bits and pieces of it that I did.
Tentatively starting to watch the Naruto offered on Amazon. I'm not even sure if the 8 seasons they have of it is the whole thing, but it's enough to keep me in something to watch. Plus Prime is where Dora lives and that has to be on the TV 50% of the time or better around here or someone gets to have a bad day. (me, y'know due to the crying and fits )
I remember Sailor Moon as that before-school thing. Maybe even old reruns of Speed Racer. I think the first one I watched that I actually cared about was Voltron, though- the original Lion one.
First one I saw that I realized wasn't American Made was Princess Mononoke, though.
First anime's I got really into was Dragonball Z, YuYu Hakusho and Cowboy Bebop. After that it was everything I could find at the video store and game stores. Anime was sooo expensive a long time ago.

Animecrave has both Dubbed and Subbed available.
You only have to watch 2 ads at the beginning of each thing you watch(plus whatever runs along the edge of the screen) so its pretty ad light.

Time for the Italian girls to get there tanks pounded!
I had a look at the list a few days ago over on Anichart and seeing that the first series next season comes out 2/6/14 I quickly put choosing anything off so I could do some study.
I just hope a good comedy show starts airing on Mondays. Or slice of life.
I had Non Non Biyori that honestly cleansed my soul, this season I had Mangaka-san (the voice actors are amazing, and the one doing Aito, feth, I hope the guy gets a raise) that makes me laugh way too much than it should : a moral boost to start the week would be so welcome
Looking forward to see how they add the extra stuff from Persona 4 Golden into the anime adaptation. Hope they keep the part from the previous Persona 4 Animation though when Nanako tells everyone that Yu is a manwhore though
Actually, she's doing it quite right.
Who needs armor when your suit grants you super human endurance and strength...
Spoiler:
especially when said suit is a malevolent alien entity who tends to control it's host, and who's strength of influence depends on how much skin it's covering
With that one I totally agree. One of the most charismatic villains ever. They don't make them as they used to. Gargoyles was an awesome show.
Agreed. Also on that figure posed for Speechifying.
You know, even though there's a lot of good anime out this season, nothing's really grabbed me the way Kill la Kill did. Well, except for D-Frag and Love Live. Maybe it's because I'm always behind.
Or that I've spent the last month watching Star Wars Clone Wars and Kill la Kill on Netflix (work on your subtitle placement, whoever's in charge over there.)
At that point, time to watch abridged versions of anime.
That picture you posted should have an 'insert here' with an arrow pointing to the girl's butt. I know it's horrible but I'm horrible . I suppose the window could also slam shut on her. That'd be the more appropriate version.
--------
I planned to do plenty of abridged versions of anime but i sort of lack the experience and am not used to editing everything together. However i think i could throw up a bunch of pictures with dialogue below. At least that way i could get some of this crap done and it'd probably be just as good with less work.
My latest one that i planned to do was on 'Cowboy Bebop' and it's sort of done as if the main cast are a bunch of rednecks in the form of 'Dog the Bounty Hunter'. Basically Jet is the truck driver, spike is the main bounty hunter, Faye (is the 'b*tch'), Ein is possibly the 'Doge' meme (though people hate that meme so i dunno) and Edward is 'Honey Boo Boo' basically. I was totally going to make fun of their adventures and make them really offensive and often stereotypical.
I'll throw up some stills of the show if i can find any and add dialogue if any of you wish.
I basically joked with a friend that anime fanatics would fire bomb my area of residence after watching this abridged series to which he replied "Eh so what it isn't mine." Yeah i have a good friend there ;P.
Wow. i have the opposite problem. The fan on my computer died and I can't watch video let alone play game without it hitting 100C and shutting down. The only option is my phone and I already watched Black bullet this week.
Ledabot wrote: Wow. i have the opposite problem. The fan on my computer died and I can't watch video let alone play game without it hitting 100C and shutting down. The only option is my phone and I already watched Black bullet this week.
Oh gak I've had that problem too. Are you sure your video card isn't the problem? Some video cards need enough fans to support I think. You may not have the computer good enough for it. Then again that was the problem I had.
Nevermind you said it was the fan on your computer that died. Durrr well I guess I should've paid more attention.
Funny enough that you'd post this. I just finished "Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions" the other day. I wasnt sure what to expect really going in blind as I was. But it surprised me. I quite liked it. Rikka's Struggle to hold on to her love while not losing the "delusions" that make her who she is was very interesting to me. Besides that the Side shenanigans were good as well, along with the "Delusion Moments" being pretty cool and good way to inject a bit of action into the show. I'd give it a 7/10. Overall I enjoyed it very much.
Annnnnd on top of that I finished Clannad. Was decent enough. The only Arcs that really hit me were the original arc with Fuko when shes at the school and the ending Arc with Nagisa and Ushio. The final arc would have probobly had more impact on me if...
Spoiler:
Everything wasn't "alright" in the end. I understand Why and it made a pretty good ending for the show, just sort of robbed them dying of any impact. At least Nagisa's you sort of had to come to terms with. Ushio's not so much.
For some reason the original Arc with Fuko hit me pretty hard and Im not sure why...
Spoiler:
Just the thought of everything she did and working so hard for her sister for everyone to forget her ever having been there. The Feels I felt them for that. Dunno why either.
Her little "guest" apperances all through the rest of Season 1 we're cool to see though.
Overall I'd give Clannad a 8.5/10. Good music. Liked the art style and characters, and the story was pretty good through out.

Side note, Plastic Nee San was just plain weird.
Wow you got the exact opposite problem of that picture KM. Your going to overload! Too much!
Which is why I mostly watch only one at a time if I can help it. Or I would end up doing the same thing!
I've got enough old stuff that's already finished airing that I can focus on one at a time. Once I've exhausted all of that though I'll probably start to get into the same boat!
Started Non Non Biyori today. Not too bad. Im starting to come to terms with the fact im no where near as picky with Anime as I was a few years back. Im pretty much enjoying anything I try at the moment.
I started Attack on Titan a few days ago. I don't get why people love it; for me it's firmly average, sometimes bordering on sub-par. The only other anime I've watched is Gurren Lagan. Loved it.
DA's Forever wrote: Started Non Non Biyori today. Not too bad. Im starting to come to terms with the fact im no where near as picky with Anime as I was a few years back. Im pretty much enjoying anything I try at the moment.
Hurray! More people are discovering the MAGNIFICENCE that Non Non Biyori is!
In other news, it was the first time I had to hunt the source of a gif but I think it was worth it :3 anyone ever saw "Pani Poni Dash!" ? This seems to be another crazy anime with lots of jokes.
(The gif that made me go hunt)
Started that pet girl show from a few seasons back. The first 4 or so episodes are sooooo moody that I'm having trouble getting through them to the good stuff. I didn't come here for evangelion tier angst! I have enough of that as it is!
feth yes to all of these as it happens, but in particular Magic Knigh Rayearth, Card Captor Sakura and Devil Hunter Yoko, the latter of which I really want to see. Sakura too come to think of it, I've never seen the non-butchered version.
Of course I'd be remiss not to mention Revolutionary Girl Utena, which stands out as an anime classic that I cannot stand. At all. Maybe an update would make it watchable for me.
In other news I've been warned off of Okami-San and Her Seven Assistants. Apparently it's not worth the time invested.

In other news I've been warned off of Okami-San and Her Seven Assistants. Apparently it's not worth the time invested.
I found Utena to be a really good series that really has strong themes, story, and characters. Granted it is a hard one to watch as a casual viewer. What did you not like about it?
There's too much there to really get into it, but the reused and kinda dodgy animation really bugged me, and some of the plot elements blocked me from getting to into it. I dunno it's a complex show and I have complex issues with it if that makes any sense haha.
Just watched an episode of "sword art online" that was airing on. T.v.
Interesting. Although I hate it when characters that are sixteen look like they're 6, it bothers me to no end.
I don't recall that issue being present in SAO. Was this a new episode or something? I mean, the issue of age is kinda fuzzy anyways due to the Videogame aspect of it.
Anvildude wrote: I don't recall that issue being present in SAO. Was this a new episode or something? I mean, the issue of age is kinda fuzzy anyways due to the Videogame aspect of it.
No, I don't think so. Remember at the very first ep or second the "Game Master" gives all players a mirror that changes their avatar into what they look like in real-life. I'm surprised we only saw a case of a male player using a female avatar (I'd be one of those tbh. I always use female characters in any game if I'm able to)
I'm guessing you are talking about Silica? She's the youngest character I remember of, and she's 12. She's 14 at the end of the first Arc.
No. I didn't watch the whole episode, but the main guy (I assume) and this blue-black haired girl were in this sewer type place. The girl looked about 10, and was talking about suicide.
the shrouded lord wrote: No. I didn't watch the whole episode, but the main guy (I assume) and this blue-black haired girl were in this sewer type place. The girl looked about 10, and was talking about suicide.
Ah. That was actually pretty early on. Note that the girl might have actually been 10. (like I said, anime's always kinda fuzzy on the age- it's the size of the heads, mostly). The show's kinda deep, and there's reason that even a child might be thinking about suicide.
I've seen Asian girls are really really small for their age. I'm not totally sure what the average heights are in Japan, but I got the impression they are lower than around here. If you combine that with the girls still being in just middle school, then you really could get girls that look quite young.
Just checks stats. On average they are 2 inches shorter than Aus females. 5"4.5' seems to be fairly representative of the average female height in western characters.
KalashnikovMarine wrote: I was definitely taller then almost every one around me in Japan by several inches when I was in Tokyo and I'm only 5'10"
Yes, the asian "frame" is smaller than the average westerner. I bet it's gonna be hell to be able to find clothes that fit loosely
I hate my brain ... I swear every damn time I go to any kind of an event, if there's anything Evangelion related it kicks in full scumbag mode:
Brain: Hey, hey, what about buying another Rei? This one is really different from all other ones.
Me: Damn it brain, I already have 5... 5! It's starting to get creepy! I'm ignoring you today.
Brain: But you still don't have this one. C'mon, what harm is there?
Me: No Brain, not today, today I'll be able to visit a Japan related event without bringing another Rei home.
Brain: This one is Cat-Girl themed.
Me: .... feth you Brain ... *grabs wallet*

Finished Arpeggio. Damn. That was some good stuff. The character animations were a tad choppy at times. But the battles were smooth and looked quite good. None of the characters got on my nerves and I liked them all on the whole. Would definetly watch a second season if that was to come down the line at some point.

Do you know if there are any plans for western companies to pick it up? If i remember right some of the CR subs were a bit dodgy Also my DVD collection needs it

I already did previously, but here it is again in all it's creepi--- glory, I mean in all it's glory!
Spoiler:
Plus this one.
Spoiler:
This one is interesting; It's a special Sega one, she's all in blue, with the X-mas gifts and instead of NERV written on the base, it has SEGA.
Now, Asuka, I do have the plushie and a small figurine but nothing that special... one of these days I have to correct this, Asuka wasn't bad at all, but with the recent Evangelion movies her badass level reached new heights!

No, unfortunately I have no idea!
Also had a good intro. Was kinda weird that it sort of just disappeared for like 3 episodes in the middle there though...

Now go read the manga. You can find the new chapters on CR for free but the manga premium is different from the anime one sadly so you have to get that for the old ones. I found that the manga was really really good. The anime takes out quite a lot but still really manages to remain afloat. You feel a bit gutted about the anime after reading the manga though since you realize just how good it could have been. Maybe ones of the best page turning manga I've read.

What are your guy's opinions of Gurren Lagann? I've heard it's pretty good as a pop-corn anime, but was just wondering what you guys could say about it, be it good or bad.
Overlord Thraka wrote: Does anyone know a site where I can watch Naruto Shippuden English dubbed past 247? The place I normally rely on doesn't seem to go past that.
I SHALL WATCH WHAT I PLEASE! Seriously? What's with all the Naruto hate? I know it's regarded as a sub-par Anime but I still enjoy it...
Thanks Dracon!
I'm sure it was mostly in jest.
It IS true that I hate Naruto. I really do: I followed it weekly, but after a year of fillers (this was back then between Naruto and Shippuden), after a particular bad one, something just clicked. I gave up on anime for... years, actually.
But I have nothing against people liking it! Hence why I helped Thraka. People are free to enjoy anything they like
Slarg232 wrote: What are your guy's opinions of Gurren Lagann? I've heard it's pretty good as a pop-corn anime, but was just wondering what you guys could say about it, be it good or bad.
Gurren Lagann is probably one of the best anime I have ever seen. Period.
Ok, if I have to add some details.
It's a love letter to the Mecha-genre through 3 distinct ages: the 70s, the 80s and 90s. It starts with 2 idiots attempting to leave the village, it ends in a scenario of massive awesome. No exageration. The characters are fleshed out and likable, one in particular is the stuff legends are made of and I'm sure you'll find plenty of him around the internet: Kamina.
Just be sure to prepare yourself for LOADS of over-the-top action. And I mean loads, including crazy epic speeches like you rarely see anymore. This show was the definition of OTT for me until Kill la Kill, and of course, KLK is from many of the same guys that did GL AND Evangelion. And it showed. A Lot.
Honestly, it's all kinds of awesome. Just be sure to skip the infamous ep. 16. KLK even made a reference to it scaring the gak outta me, making me think ep. 16 would again be a flashback episode.
Slarg232 wrote: Is it on the same level of Awesome as FMA or Trigun? Or slightly below that?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
It's above. I've seen only like, the first 7 episodes of it, and I can tell you that easily.
I'm a big fan of Trigun. I watched it all those years ago, I have the manga, Vash was my "FPS" multiplayer tag since that time and remains one of my favorite characters of any anime and even then I have to say Gurren Lagann is so much, much, MUCH more awesome. It just never stops. The action just keeps coming, keeps getting better until this final episode of sheer mind-blowing OTT awesome final fight.
Oh, and I'm a big fan of FMA aswell, and I devoured FMA: Brotherhood in a really short time. And even then, I must say GL is more awesome.
But, again, it's very OTT. VERY OTT. I honestly think it is a "hate it or love it" kind of thing.
Well, after three episodes, I'm definitely liking it, and can see why everyone loves Kamino. It's weird though; he's the type of character I usually hate.....
Gurren Lagaan is one of my favorite animes, right up there with Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood. Also Kill la Kill, Soul Eater and Slayers.
Trigun, though I thoroughly enjoyed it, is not ranked quite that high on my list. Same would go for the original Full Metal Alchemist. They're definitely good, but they don't reach that top echelon of favorite animes ever.
Meh, KLK was fun but nowhere near as awesome as Guren.
Also, think I'm pretty much done with mahouka koukou no rettousei. This is just going nowhere and the ever present incest theme is just dumb, it adds nothing.

Yeah, if you try to check our posts when KLK aired, well, you'll see the *BOOM* each time an episode aired. It was fantastic (and some people are fanboys of certain KLK characters. No idea who, tho )
@Soladrin - Bah, surrender to the awesome that is KLK!
I dropped that show weeks ago when they gave me uet another over-complicated explanation that'd require to read it more than once... Complex is good, over-complicated is a no-no.
HxH... I have a friend who's following it and he's desperate for the current arc to finish It's hilarious how much he's suffering because of it.

Meh, I felt it was extremely overhyped and a lot of left me with a "meh" kind of feeling. Hell, I even took a 4 week break right in the middle of it.
So I learned the reason that all the Anime Draconiclord gave me in that link was subbed. (I only watch dubbed as a matter of personal choice) The Naruto Shippuden English dub only extends to about episode 250. Oh well. Buuut... LEGEND OF KORRA SEASON 3 STARTS SOON! (Not sure if considered anime)

Oh dear. I haven't even watched the second book! Oh, I have to correct this ASAP, I loved the first one.
Pity it didn't have more Sokka in it. The world needs more Sokka and his boomerang.
I saw that on Amazon, is it pretty much just more of the same in terms of similarity to Avatar, or is there a lot of difference?
Still chugging through Naruto on Amazon. It's a bit conflicting to watch. The parts where they actually act smart and "ninja like" are pretty neat, the OTT ninja wizardry that goes on is a bit meh. The repetition is really what gets to me though. The very first neat trick where they throw the shuriken at the badguy with another shuriken in it's shadow but that's actually a knife throwing Naruto instead.. that was neat. Watching it happen three times at varying camera angles was a bit much, and then seeing the entirety of it again in the next episode was just boring. And pretty much everything of significance (or even not) gets overlapped like that. Still, something to watch

Tonight I think I'm either going to start Golden Time or Asura Cryin'. Not sure which yet. It'll All depend on the mood Im in tonight. Also still impatiently waiting for the last Episode of Nanana's!
Legend of Korra is as closely related to The Last Airbender as, um, The Lord of the Rings is related to The Hobbit. (actually that's a pretty good analogy)
It's set with, essentially, the 2 generations after the Gaang- Aang's kids, Toph's daughter, and the next Avatar and her friends are the 'main' characters, and the story is a little darker, and everyone's a little older than the Gaang was, so there's more, well, "adult" stuff. Also, steampunk and jazz. (that seems to have driven off a lot of people)
I think Nickelodeon actually has most, if not all, of the full episodes available in high quality for streaming on their website (surprise surprise!)
There was a lot of issue with how the Legend of Korra seasons are all 'neatly wrapped up' season to season, unlike the overarching plotline the first series had- this is because Korra was only ever bought by the season, so Bryke never knew if the show would last beyond a single season. Because of this, things are a little... compressed- it feels often like it wants to be a long, seasons spanning show, especially in the pacing of individual episodes, but because of that unsure-ness, they had to wrap up the storyline within a single season.
It's fun, and pretty cool to watch. Not ATLA, but good in its own right.
Huh cool, I will definitely check it out then! Avatar took off and turned into something that I really liked eventually, so I'm interested to try this other thing out now.

Is Nanana not already wrapped up? That episode last week felt very much like a season finale.
Also, Legend of Korra has so far been not as good as the first Airbender series. It's not Bad, but it's not as good. The season three trailer does look sweet though.

Indeed. its still a good show and the setting is still engaging.
I do hope they go for a more overreaching storyline from this point on though. It was cute how shy they were with the first 2 seasons, but hopefully they've gotten over it.
I want another epic story. I also want them to go back and do the rest of Aang's life.
I liked both LAB and LOK because they had a good mix of everything. You've got nice action, good story, good dialog, great animation, etc... Kids like it but it is also mature enough to appeal to adults. its something you can watch with your whole family.
I haven't yet forgiven people for the live action movie. Such a disgrace. Surely they could have gotten some actual talent to make the movie. Instead they pulled out the farce parade.

Golden Time is a saccharine romance with a thick drama filling. I highly recommend it. I also highly recommend Asura Cryin which looks like fun but is NOT fething around with the dark gak it gets into.
Anyone ever read those "Inspector Iroh" fan-comics? It's just kinda funny that they apparently predicted the Roaring 20's. And related to the 'guns' thing- all the Firebenders treated their, uh, fingers as guns.
To be fair, though, the non-benders, do have Mecha. And Aeroplanes.

Excellent I'll keep that in mind when making my choice!
Glad this threads been here. You've all been a great help to get me back into anime again! MAL has also been helpful as well,
Yeah, wasn't expecting that little piece of gak to show up ever again. So, destroy the entire tokyo area in exchange for killing one guy? Characters stupid as this guy gives me an headache.
In other news, I now want a Kagetane figure. Together with his daughter... that is all.
I'm pretty new to this anime stuff and I was wondering are there any good mecha movies/series? I'm talking a real mechs and not some oversized armor sword fiighting eachother.
Stuff I've seen includes:
Most studio ghibli movies
Cowboy Bebob, really good
Samurai shamploo, like cowboy but worse apart from baseball episode.
death note, meh
redline, boobs, beer and racing whats not to like?
ghost in the shell 1&2
Code geass, it basically has everything why I think anime sucks.
TheMeanDM wrote: Started watching Gurren Lagann.....and liking it! Boobs help, of course
Honestly Gurren Lagan is a pretty weak show compared to Kill la Kill. Overall characters are weaker and story is split into weird sections which have completely different focus.
Action is mostly dudes screaming really hard.
So last night I watched the entire Madoka movie trilogy and I must say. It left me quite emotionally compromised. Without spoilers, you really need to remember that this is a madoka movie and this is why we can't have nice things. It's also all about Homu so you have to deal with that if you don't like her. Also Charlotte was a weird character that's only purpose I could see was to make people go "OH. Charlotte's so Moe! Must see movie!" She added nothing to the plot that another character couldn't have done.
Spoiler:
The ending really threw me for a loop at first. I became quite apparent that Homura was quite insane after the replays from hell she had to do. We still don't know how many she would have had to do but it sure did leave a whole lot of crazy behind. In truth, what she did was selfish and sad but in all honesty, didn't really make anything worse for anyone else from what I could see. It just made a somewhat happy ending a bitter-sweat one. Now Homu will never find true happiness I feel and that's almost as sad as her being stuck as a witch.

If anyone suggests Gundam after this, I will slap them.
Sadly, there's not many 'real mech' anime out there. Robotech and it's 'parent' shows take 'giant robot suits' and mix'n'match them with jet aeroplanes, so there's more, you know, shooting things with guns. Code Geas, I think, has slightly more realistic mecha, in size anyways, but I think they're all about the 'swordfights' there.
There's the old originals- Gunbuster and Diebuster, though those have smatterings of "Super robot".
Honestly, I'd suggest checking out the TVTropes page for Mecha and seeing if you can find a subcategory that fits what you want- just don't click the links- google the shows you find instead.

Try neon genesis evangelion. Thats more focused on the characters and general mindf*ckery but its still a mech show
Robotech was pretty good if you can stomach the odd really cringy moment

Knights of Sidonia. Yes, it has hand to hand combat, (ya know, Knights), but there's a well justified reason for it and the setting is being pretty damn good. Never have I seen before humanity so fethed up as it's here. Unfortunately, it's gonna end next week, 12 episodes. I'll have to start reading the manga too.

Broken blade has some nice mech designs and really cool story. The way their mechs are set up is really interesting. Most of the older gundam series have very realistic mech style fighting. Some of the new ones do as well, but usually only UC stuff.
Just started madoka magica, Pretty awesome. got to episode 10 of the 12 tonight. Was Geared up to watch the season finale of Soul Eater NOT!(suposibly got approved for a season 2) and....delayed to July 1st. Really liking that anime a lot.
AduroT wrote: What about MS 8th or whatever the gundam series with the squad combat was called?
Yes that along with 0080 and 0083 have a less flashy, more brutal and down to earth style of fighting and animation. They take place in the UC universe and have main characters who are regular soldiers, instead of new type super heroes like amuro or Kira.

Make sure you watch the 3rd movie after the series. It really is quite good and generating emotion. Its been a whole day for me and I can't get it out of my head. I wonder if this is how solders fell after seeing war...
I think beating the old gods will be quite a challenge. Heck. Any of the races above 7 should be near impossible to beat. It really depends on if they are willing to play nice or not since their magic is even higher caliber than the elves.
Damn, that ending to Nanana's. Now I REALLY want it to keep going. I hope that bit at the end was to show some intention of doing so... But I've seen so many shows just stop after something like that to know that's not a guarantee
Over the last few weeks, not one but 2 new streaming services have opened to Aus/NZ. I as quite surprised but I'm happy I can't get my anime for free without having to download anything now.
Jesus F. Christ, the end of Knights of Sidonia was brutal. I haven't seen such an intense mech duel in some time and the end of the fight was delicious: A complete "UP YOURS!".
If one can tolerate the very different art style (fully CGI animated. Personally, I like it a lot) this is one hell of a mecha anime. Heck, in general, this anime was fantastic.
I watched a bit of an episode of some weird show that had people running through a weird carnival maze thing trying to find a terror seed or something. I swear lately the internet is invading my television.
yep, they were little girls. and I think I did hear someone say magical girl, I wasn't paying much attention, I was reading hunger games (manly I know.)
So blasted through just over half of No Game No Life. It seems to be paced very quickly. Not that its a bad thing mind. Quite like the concept of it but the brother sister interaction seems a bit odd to me but its only a small part of it so I can look past it.

Mhm, why? It's not one of those over sexualized incest stories, for once.
I love Golden Time, it's my not so secret guilty pleasure.
In other news wtf happened with If Her Flag Should Break? It went from funny 4th wall breaking harem making fun of dating sims, to The Matrix. My mind, she is blown.
Momoiro Clover Z is doing the new opening and end themes for Sailor Moon Crystal as I mentioned before, what I didn't know though is that the girls (one of my favorite idol groups) have their chops in for the show, and have already recorded a cover of and performed (in cosplay no less) the original theme Moonlight Densetsu. It's pretty fething awesome.
Agh! I forgot about Korra! Gonna have to see if I can find it online- I hope Nick gets it up on their site- I feel unsafe going to most streaming sites.

Ok so I'm watching Kara No Kyoukai and theres one piece of music that i freakin love but i cant find what it's called. It's the ethereal choir/chorus one that plays in the "next episode" preview. Anyone that can find this for me will earn my eternal gratitude
Sick. That first episode is a bit slower due to the set up and what not, but the mystery angle looks interesting enough to keep watching. The closing theme makes me much more interested too, if i'm reading it right our main character has a weird looking new sprite, almost too feminine for him, but amusingly enough he's still using a freaking sword in a gun-based game. And for that, i'll keep watching.
Whelp, because of my dislike for SOA and Kirito, I still haven't watched it, but I will soon enough. So, from what I saw so far, we have 2 mech animes:
Aldnoah.Zero:
In 1972, the Apollo 17 mission discovered a hypergate to Mars on the surface of the moon. Soon, a war breaks out between Earth and Mars, and Martian soldiers begin to descend from the sky, riding steel giants, intent on exterminating humanity.
I really, really enjoyed the entire setting. The racism, the destroyed moon. Earth-Humans are completely fethed from what I saw.
Spoiler:
One of the Martian "Castles" landed and pretty much wiped out the entire New Orleans.
Shirogane no Ishi Argevollen
The Kingdom of Arandas Alliance and the Countries Unification of Ingelmia have been at war for many years. The situation has been at a stalemate across the fortress of the Great Wall, which has never been penetrated since the foundation of Arandas. The gate to the fortress has remained firmly closed, but when it creaks open, the complexity of war starts to change dramatically.
Entire different world, very interesting so far because most mechs look like something out of MechWarrior, really nothing like Gundam: Slow and Heavy.
Spoiler:
Except ofc the one our MC finds... ofc he gets the fast mech. And ofc he's the hot-headed soldier that disregards orders. *sigh*
Tokyo Ghoul:
Wow.... I mean... wow. When an anime starts with a woman eating several humans it gets my instant attention . Very cool setting, Ghouls are like vampires but .... instead of blood, they need flesh. Human flesh.
Futsuu no Joshikousei ga [Locodol] Yatte Mita.
The story is about the life of a high school girl, Nanako, and her senpai, Yukari, who end up becoming the town's local idols (locodol) upon the request of her uncle.
I laughed. I laughed a damn lot . It's nothing special but it's idol-themed but I really enjoyed the first ep. Her uncle is a fantastic character
Rail Wars: The entire episode felt so ... meh. Nothing really funny, nothing really good, it was interesting to learn new stuff about steam-locomotives but ... meh. Hope it gets better,.
Now, if ye excuse me, I have Sailor Moon and SAO to see
Edit: Well, it seems I'll never change, I still have a huge fetish for cloaked and masked villains xD as soon as Death Gun revealed himself, I was conquered. Rather nice first ep.
Sailor Moon was, well, Sailor Moon. Usagi still irritates me to no end. I need Sailor Mars to show up ASAP...
Holy crap. So new Sailor Moon. Love the art, and HOLY feth are the lyrics to the new theme Girl Powertastic.
In that spirit though, have some CR guest passes so you can all get up on the new season.

First impressions:
The art is absolutely stunning. I love it, it's like the old show in high def as well as being more on point with the manga. A lot of the first original episode is intact in a positive way.
Usagi is still Usagi, ditzy and kinda annoying, but useful in a pinch.
I liked the changes in how Usagi and everyone's favorite mysterious masked gentleman interact.
