Yeah. That reads like the typical fangirl reaction.
I had more of the. "Eh. Okay. Nice job Korra. You scored big. On this one."
Queing rule 34 artists.
As if said artists needed that final episode to draw that ship
Heh. I love how apparently that was the most popular ship regardless, because of the little hints and touches. I think Bryke are learning how to manipulate the fanbase a little more.

Called it in season 3. Korra and Asami getting super close at about the same time the show was pulled off the air, away from the eyes of innocent children? No way that was a coincidence. Or maybe it was, and Nick is just dumb.

It's okay, we won't derail the thread.
Speaking of Korra, I can't wait until my boyfriend and I watch it together. We just watched the original series in its entirety not too long ago, so Korra is next.

see this would be an entertaining and witty comment, i you had said something that suggested yourelf to be male, altough, you still deserve a high five.
the deltora quest anime was good (IIRC) and had some nice low-level monstrs in it. altough the books' ending was better.
personally I have no quorrel with same sex couples, tho I myself am straight.
I think I'll finish korra, than kill la kill, than start naruto.
8:46 into the next episode. had to pause it just to come here and post.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Automatically Appended Next Post: sooo... Is kill la kill in the process of being released dubbed? or is it not dubbed after episode 14? If not, I'm gonna have a migrane until I finish it subbed.

Yes it is.
It should be in the middle of the dubbing process.
Kill la Kill did honestly surprise me. Not just because I liked it (I loved it, actually), but because I've never sat through a series, been aware of its glaring flaws, but then love it despite them.

KLK just flew straight into my number 1 anime of all time, shifting Evangelion to number 2. It was just that good for me, the only anime that made me wake up earlier so I could watch it before heading to work. I wasn't able to wait.
In other news, Psycho-Pass S2 finished :( 11 episodes, this season was horribly short. It was awesome, but the ending felt a bit too rushed... hell, the enforcers didn't even have that much screen time this season. Well, this might explain why:
Announcement:
In case anyone doesn't already know, there's a Psycho-Pass Movie opening in theaters this January 9th 2015. About 6-8 months later it'll be out on disc so we can watch it. As a little side-note, there seems to have been a hub-bub that movie's been rated R15+, which means it's probably gonna be a LOT bloodier and more gory than this and/or it will have significant amount of nudity.
Co'tor Shas wrote:Is R15+ meaning you have to be 15 or older (or have a guardian)?
I think so. That's my understanding. Oh, and the plot looks awesome:
Four years after *BIG SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO STILL DIDN'T SEE BOTH SEASONS*, the Japanese government begins to export the "Sibyl System" technology to other countries, spreading it throughout the world. A state in the midst of a civil war, SEAUn (the South East Asia Union, pronounced "shian"), brings in the Sibyl System as an experiment, and the coastal town of Shambala Float achieves temporary peace and safety. But then terrorists from SEAUn appear in Japan, slipping through the Sibyl System and attacking from within, drawing Akane Tsunemori and her team to Shambala Float to investigate.
Void__Dragon wrote:I've actually just started Psycho-Pass season 1. I loved Madoka and Fate/Zero, so I'm hoping this won't disappoint.
Good, good, I'm sure you'll love PP if you like good investigation / thriller stuff
And legend of korra is finished. now, unless someone knows when more dubbed kLK will be coming out, I'm going to
A. watch the devil is a part timer again, and B.watch an episode or two of naruto.
also, can someone tell me what highschool dxd is?

And to the one who said School Days was the most messed up...

You realize that the little ending kiss is actually from a tumblr artist who animated that bit themselves, right? Pulled straight from it, just with a clothes swap and some filters.

Impressive compositing, though.
Also, @ Soladrin- What do you have against Blum?
Nothing, I just don't like dubs, for everything. I watch everything in it's original language. Could you imagine watching Pan's Labyrinth or Das Boot in English? That genuinely upsets me.
English fits the setting of Cowboy Bebop more than Japanese though.
I can't remember a single Japanese character in Cowboy Bebop. A whole bunch of Western characters though.
Pan's Labyrinth and Das Boot are actually set in Spain and Germany respectively, so it makes more "sense" to refuse to watch them in English.
Though, this only explains why your comparison is flawed IMO. To be honest I don't give a gak. I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion's dub (as well as the sub, later), and that's set in Japan. I also consider the English dub of Samurai Champloo superior to the Japanese.
Also, only a fething charlatan would watch something like Space Dandy in Japanese.
So basically Shinichiro Watanabe works are better in English. I guess.
Japanese subs are for hipster elitists. Plus if you're doing anything while watching, like painting models, how are you supposed to read the subtitles. Though I can think of one or two shows with legitimately terrible dubs...
Overlord Thraka wrote: What's wrong with Dubs? You don't even like excellent dubs like Fullmetal?
After the dark period of "everything must be dubbed!" of my childhood, I truly hate them. Bonus points for PS2 games. There're some spectacular bad dubs there. Or dialogues for that matter ... ok, bad dialogue in games probably exist since the spectrum era.
Not only that, I LOVE the Japanese language (There's a reason I'm always listening to Touhou arranges). Rurouni Kenshin when it was aired a long time ago, before I even had a computer, was dubbed in Portuguese, and, ok, it was a nice dub, but the ending wasn't dubbed. And me, the little child that I was, heard that magical language for the first time and was amazed. The love stayed true and strong.
In short, feth dubs. Never again will I return to the dark ages that was anime 20 years ago or so.
Well 9 episodes into naruto and I have to say two things. it's not gak like I thought it would be and I have no idea what the feth is going on which pisses me off.
Well, like I said I gave Amagi Brilliant Park a try and watched the first 2 episodes.
Even though I was expecting it, the "I'm a helicopter!" made me burst out laughing. It's that funny. Hell, the whole show is filled with hilarious stuff, the crazy level is similar to the "Game Creation Club" we had last year.
A tiny pink cat mascot commenting on a bar about his love of T&A. One of the mascots being called "a walking copyrights infrigement" (it's almost equal to the one from Full Metal Panic, but then again, the author is the same). The girl that goes "I'm a helicotper!" is an actual air fairy, so she's officially an air-head...blond too.
Give it a try if you need some silly in your life, I'm so positively impressed so far.
Weirdly enough I actually preferred 4Kids' choice of voices for One Piece and Winx. Granted, the story butchering was terrible, but some of the little things I think they got right- for example, I feel like Sanji sucking on lolipops instead of smoking made a ton of sense- smoking dulls the sense of taste after all and you'd think that a chef obsessive enough about food to fight solely (ha!) with his Feet would pay attention to that. Also, the differences in accents in those ensemble casts both make it easier to differentiate characters and make sense considering the vastly different places they all come from.
So I was sitting around bored and decided to watch an episode maybe two of Parasyte, as I'd heard some good things. Wound up marathoning all the way to episode 11, and only because they didn't have any more. I have to say it's extremely compelling and does a great job of keeping the tension up. I'm a bit worried how it'll hold up outside of binge-watching sessions. It moves along at much faster pace than I usual like and while that's part of what kept me engaged, I'm not sure the relatively thin characters and limited detail will be enough to keep me coming back without the momentum of back-to-back viewings.
And the internet must be nuts. Fate/Zero is the prequel to Fate/Stay Night so it kinda makes sense to watch it first. Well, unless you didn't want to be disappointed, I guess, since Zero is so much better <3

Ok, Amagi Brilliant Park is ... brilliant watched 3 more episodes yesterday and so far it's been one hell of a surprise. It's fun, it's up-beat, the characters are interesting, in short, all a light comedy anime should have. The expressions on the cute mascot characters are fantastic xD On these two most of all:

Yeah, naruto's not the best show in that regard...
Ok I very much respect the creators of naruto now. not many people would have the guts to show a little girl getting the gak beat out of her on a semi-kids show.
LordofHats wrote: My advice is skip the original Fate/Stay Night anime and watch the new one.
Are Unlimited Blade Works and Fate/Stay Night different continuities because they follow different routes of the VN? This may affect my viewing order, is why I ask.
Fate/Stay Night (the visual novel the Anime's are based on) has 3 story routes; Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heavens Feel. The main difference between them is the primary character. Shirou, Rin, and Sakura respectively. Each route differs in terms of how the story develops.
The first F/SN Anime was loosely based on the Fate route. But personally I find that anime preposterously boring for how popular it is.
The current remake, F/SN Unlimited Blade Works (despite its name), thus far adheres more closely to the Visual Novel and seems to be a fusion of the Fate and Unlimited Blade Works routes. By and far I find the current anime vastly superior and you aren't really missing too much by watching it over the original. IMO.
Ok, so I watched 8 episodes of Amagi Brilliant Park, and it's making me re-evaluate what kind of show I enjoy:
I was watching Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist), I'd got to episode 22 and I was pumped to see the next one...
But now I don't care about the son of satan killing demons, instead, I'm more interested in whether an amusement park run by fairies can get 500,000 visitors in 80 days. Draconic Lord, I blame you for this!
It reminds me of the style of No Game No Life, it's sort of sickly-sweet, and it's utterly daft, but somehow it's still very watchable!
Wow... I... need a minute... and then some Amagi Brilliant Park.
Spoiler:
I think Waver's the only who came outta that mess in decent shape. With Kiritsugu a distant, distant second.
Guess it's on to Unlimited Blade Works. When I recovered from this ride, at least.
Yeah, I think
Spoiler:
Only Waver and Gilgamesh got away from it in any decent shape. Rider was an amazing character, he was the comic relief, a hero, a key plot element, a friend and one hell of a King. Hell, when Gilgamesh himself respects him, you know he's awesome. (I love how Saber was schooled hard core in the meeting of the 3 Kings) and yet the poor guy still had to die.
Well, I've finished Amagi Brilliant Park and it's amazing how tense I was in those final moments.
Spoiler:
And Tirami really showed what it means to be a team-player xD Gods, I love that cat so much . And to me, the rape-face kids are one of the best things of the show: I lost it when they did things like sniffing around and saying "I smell a girl" with their rape-face on.
I also found very interesting how this season finished with the Wizard still active and the curse technically still active. Here's hoping for a future season
Iskander is probably my favorite character in all of Fate. He was epic in every way that matter XD
Spoiler:
Definitely agree that Weaver come out better for ware, but really by far the one who really gained from the war was Gilgamesh who got exactly what he wanted. Kiritsugu on the other hand got absolutely destroyed by the outcome.

I watched 650 episodes of one piece in less then 3 weeks, I don't know how that happened either.
504 hours in three weeks.
twenty minutes per episode, 650 divided by three is 216.33recuring.
504 - 216 =288.
288 - six hours for sleeping every day.
288- (21x6) =163.
216 waking hours spent watching one peice. 163 waking hours spent not watching one peice.
now that that math is over, I'm going to sleep.

Haha, to be fair, I quick skipped through filler episodes so not entirely sure how many full episodes it comes down to.
I've picked up Chihaya Furu and made it through the first season so far. I'm kind of stuck on anything to say about it other than it's very engaging. It does a great job of making a very obscure, very niche subject immediately accessible. I definitely rides on the strength of the characters, the portrayals feel honest, treats them with respect and gives them some real growth.
I also blazed through Natsuyuki Rendezvous in basically one sitting, as it's very short. It had a cool premise and was refreshingly direct. However the whole thing dragged because I found the male lead to be somewhere between dull and annoying. It's a pretty small investment so I'd say give it a shot if the summary sounds at all interesting.
EDIT:
I also watched Say I love you I guess. I was enjoyable at the time, but utterly forgettable. I've been done with it for all of 3 days and I don't think I could actually name any of the characters. There was.. frumpy main character girl, hot guy who just kind of falls for her, 2-seconds plot point other couple, angry hot chick, a lost kitten! It's an inoffensive time-filler if you're into that sort of thing. It did an adequate job of holding my attention when the only alternative was staring at wall or wandering outside.
Also got caught up to Sailor Moon Crystal- I'm not incredibly impressed, but not really disappointed either. It's... good. I think if it didn't have the Sailor Moon marketing juggernaut and sheer consequence that name gives it as the preeminent Magical Girl anime, I don't think it would have been as successful- the animation is high quality, but there's so many classic Anime shortcuts being taken it's more like watching an animated photo album or a series of .gifs than a show itself. Still, something to have on the other screen when I'm playing Minecraft, I suppose, and it fits with the fanfictions I've been reading.
Started on Trinity Blood, which is a bit of a switch from Amagai Brilliant park, but I like the mash-up of settings - it's like they took Hellsing and Trigun and smashed them together. Thinking about it, the main character is basically Alucard with Vash the stampede's goofy façade - good fun
Am I the only one who didn't know Tetra was a guy? The two of them made that sound like it was supposed to be obvious, but then at least one other didn't know...

I only knew because I spoilered myself some weeks ago as I, for some random reason, read about her in the LH wiki. I don't think the viewers would easily find out.

That explains this morning. I generally watch my shows during my morning cardio at the gym and it totally threw me off, I got in like maybe half my usual exercise. Hopefully things get back to normal soon.

Oh yeah. I gotta catch up to Chiaka. I kinda wish there was a little more world building in that anime, though- uh, sorta.
Like, I like how much history is affecting everyone, and there's this great mystery that's going on- but I'd love to know more about the magitech that they're showing- more varieties or uses of it- why can only a magic user drive the vehicles, etc., or is 'magic' just technology of a certain advancement?
I mean, I love the idea of magical spell-slinging .50 caliber rifles as much as the next Larry Correia fan, but I can't help but think about it more than I probably should.

I agree. It's not something that you would get up early to see the next episode or something, but I love to go back to it every once and a while. It's stories are interesting, lots of Japanese folklore, and I can be watched pretty much from anywhere. It's my sleepy show.

Pretty much where I'm at with it. Watched it for awhile, and while it's not bad, it just kind of got same-y and boring.

Oh, and just because this is one of my favorite GIFs ever Dark Souls FTW! xD The final 2 episodes are a veritable menagerie of cool moments, fights and one or two plot twists for good measure. Really made up for some of the bad episodes.
See Chaika the Coffin Princess was pretty good and I really anticipated the second season.
The second season, Avenging battle, was great right up until the last few episodes. They should have had more episodes planned to have some for of satisfying ending.

I'll be damned, I completely forgot about Chaika's 2nd Season. I was away from most of it this season, so this is yet another I have to watch. Thanks for the heads up!
10 episodes and an OVA (still unreleased), should be pretty fast. Then I have Gundam Build Fighters to watch... the first season was so good, I hope the 2nd stayed the same.
I finally had the time to sit down and watch all of Psycho Pass 2. Why only 11 episodes? :(((((((( Not as good as season 1, but still my favorite anime to premier this season. I can't wait for the movie to come out!
"I have no mouth and I must scream"... saw a Let's Play of that one. I'm so happy the developers added an extra end so it wouldn't be 100% depression once you reached the end. The normal end is a classic example of "Lie Down. Try not to Cry. Cry a lot".
Welp, spent a good amount of new year's night together with a friend watching the Gundam Build Try Fighters, 5 eps done and it's even better than season 1 . The motto seems to be "time's a-wastin': it started with action and pretty often it has action and good humor. I swear they are making fun of themselves in a lot of scenes, the lines are so over-the-top they must be doing in on purpose
The start of 2nd Season of Chaika was pretty damn good too.
Been trying to finish up the Fall season and working through Yosuga no Sora since blitzing through Amagi Brilliant Park
Next on deck? Maken Ki.
Yosuga No Sora is... Okay. Kinda weird. Lots of naughty stuff, but very repetitive, not as well designed as other dating sim adaptions that go through the various routes in section. Utena levels of animation reuse, especially in the first episode of each route. Only covers the four main routes, and the maid Makoto in extra episodes that are after the end credits in each episode.
I just finished Chihaya Furu. The second season was definitely weaker than the 1st, plodding along at slower pace than would be ideal. Despite being downgrade from Season 1, it was still very enjoyable. I'd give the whole series a hearty recommendation, seriously check it out. It's a shame it seems like it wasn't popular enough to warrant another season covering more of the source material. While they find a pretty good break point, it's plenty clear the story is not over at the end.
I've watched the first ep of "Eden of the East" and it gets top marks for creating a very intriguing story out of the bat with a "Bourne" protagonist that doesn't remember who he is, he gets to his apartment and has a gakload of guns, passports all kinds of stuff and there's guys walking around with a special cellphone, talking to a Juiz (or Judge in English) making this a big conspiracy plot thing. And it all makes me all warm and fuzzy inside when they say stuff like Juiz and Seleccao. WOOO, GO PORTUGUESE IN ANIME!
Another thing that made me love the anime is the attention to the detail: The first episode is in DC. Do you know what language the Americans speak? English. That's right, an anime with Japanese speaking Japanese and Americans speaking English. True, it's crazy how the Americans understand Japanese so damn well, it's like everyone took Japanese classes when they were kids, but it still made me go "WOOOOOAAA". I don't remember the last anime where this detail was present.
sierra 1247 wrote: I just finished Akame Ga Kill, it was slightly anti climactic on the final episode so I'm kinda sad about that....
Who's looking forward to the next series of Aldnoah Zero though?
Ya I felt the same way, I've been enjoying the Manga a lot more. Everything seemed condensed and a bit rushed. They're definitely leaving room for a second season about something, to many things were cut and changed to just end it there.
Spoiler:
The only thing I liked more about the Anime was how Lubbock died. Falling from the sky from another dimension after defeating the Prime Minister's son was pretty cool. I'll even forgive the stupid spears tied up waiting for him on the ground. (I think it would have been better to just let him hit the ground).
Eden of the East is awesome. It easily makes my top 10, maybe even top 5. I have to re-watch it at some point so I can check out the movies without being totally out of touch.
I swear, Gundam Build Fighters Is my favorite Gundam show: no melodrama, no deaths, no depressing losses or major genocides because it's yet another war or there's a gigantic plot arch, no, it's just awesome mechs fighting and fun moments just saw the national's qualifier's final and I was so excited and hyped with the action. Finally finished Another today ... I think whoever the author is had enough and decided to partially complete his dream of becoming a director of Slasher films. That ending was strange as feth.
You'd definitely enjoy G-Gundam, then. There's a tiny bit of melodrama, but the plot is more along the lines of an Action movie than the sort of War Thrillers most Gundams go for- and the Action is BLOOD PUMPING AND XTREME in all the best over-the-top ways.

ITS BETTER THEN A FETHING WINDMILL.
FML.
Could be worse. It could be a windmill pot smoking hooker
Yeah the last arc of SAO II really decided "lets go straight for the feels. Loneliness, inability to control fate, AIDS. It's gonna be a heart breaker."
My big pick is probably KanColle: I don't play the game, but the Touhou music channels I use on youtube occasionally upload KanColle arranges and I have been slowly learning about the characters and universe. The "dark girls" look far more interesting IMO.
Plus, it's the big rival to Touhou when it comes to hentai, so it's got my respect
Which arc was that? The one with the Excalibur quest thing? That was sort of a little filler arc thing, really. Season II basically had one half and two quarter arcs in it, instead of the two half-arcs season one had.
Automatically Appended Next Post: There's a Magical Boy anime coming out. Not a Magic Knight anime, not a Magical Girl anime. A Magical Boy anime. That's either going to be hilarious, awesome, or frightening.
Similarly the anti-hero school could be fun.
And KanKolle seems like that one, what was it, Arpeggio of Blue Steel thing (with the Warship AI-tans) taken to its logical extremes. Is that a common thing over there, giving warships cutesy girl personas?

fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood,
spice and wolf,

wow, I think that's the most random list of anime ever. nothing connects any of them.
so, ay suggestions for what to watch next?
Spice and Wolf is a great story driven show. And one of the best female characters in anime.
FMAB is awesome.
Sword Art Online To each their own
Devil is a part timer no duh. Its stupid but it is funny.
Yeah The ending surprised me, I mean the whole show was a freaking surprise.
And by the way there is a movie, but I am waiting for the dub, because I can't stand the japanese voice actors for everyone. I just can't.

Damn I have a terrible memory!
I was saying I don't have a top 5 Anime. Because I haven't put any thought into it.
I can't seem to play KanColle as a game so gimme the anime! I want cute warship girls dammnit.
Hagure Yuusha no Estetica is the other anime I've been watching. A refreshingly proactive main and some kinda alright character design pushes this generic ecchi piece to a slightly higher grade... but it's still what it is.

Fun fact: this time around it's the opposite. They are normal girls that are "weaponized". So you get cute results like the "Yamato" .
Spoiler:
They seem to be pretty well thought too, here's some Trivia about the Yamato girl:
Trivia about Yamato: Yamato's remodel art features a 'Hirihoukenten (非理法権天)' kneesock (originally a flag as you can see in the picture). It reflects one of the old philosophy in feudal Japan where foolishness (非) is not above sensibility (理), sensibility is not above law (法), law is not above authority (権), and authority is not above divinity (天). As the emperor was treated as a divine figure in imperial Japan it has a meaning of "no men can oppose the (divine) emperor". A slogan adopted by the Imperial Japanese navy, this flag was hung on Yamato on her final voyage towards Okinawa.
She wears an Armband that resembles the Maritime signal Flag for the letter "Z", the Z flag played a major role in Japanese Naval History. On May 27, 1905, Admiral Heihachirō Tōgō raised the Z flag on his flagship the IJN Mikasa before the start of the Battle of Tsushima and the Z flag was raised on the Akagi on the eve of the Attack on Pearl Harbor. The raising of the flag means the following: "The fate of Imperial Japan hangs on this one battle; all hands will exert themselves and do their best."
So, I've exhausted my queue. Looking to take suggestions. If anyone knows good stuff that fits the guidelines:
Stuff I want:
* Fewer than 100 episodes long. 1-2 seasons worth would be ideal, but I'm not entirely opposed to something slightly shorter or longer.
* Consistently delivers on the warm-fuzzies and/or character drama.
* Love * Character Growth.
Stuff I don't want:
* Fanservice. No bouncing boobies, no panty shots, no lingering butt shots. This is a strict requirement as. A: I'll be watching in a public space. B: It generally annoys me.
* Tragic twists or last minute feel-bads.
* Episodic shows or gag comedies.
* Creepy incensty or under-agey feeling stuff.
Not saying i wouldn't if i watched it but i'm not sure i plan to. I don't always like the super serious sad animes. There are at least a couple i wanted to watch.
Considering a couple big sad moments of my life i think it'd beat Clannad pretty hard. The last one was a girl that i loved (thought she was perfect and 'the one') which now won't even talk to me (it's been years and no word). The other one is when my mom died of ovarian cancer when i was 19. Your f**king move Clannad. Make me cry harder than that. Oh and just for all of you to know that scene in full metal alchemist where the two brothers are sad their mom died and instantly didn't know what would happen to their lives without somebody to care for them is totally spot on. You come to that realization when your mother has also died when you were fairly young. I don't even know how they'd cope with that at that age.
Chongara, I'd actually suggest Eureka 7. Love story, character growth, single season, drama, action.
There's a tiny bit of plot-relevant 'fanservice' but nothing overt or overly in-your-face, and the sad stuff and 'twists' aren't at the end, but rather part of the character growth.

I've seen actually years ago on AS when they ran it. Wasn't too bad.

Story about your mom dude. I almost lost mine a year ago so I sympathise.
Clanned is definitely up there in the sadness. In the second season I should clarify.

Canaan fits the wants pretty well, although there are lots of emotions involved (at least for me). Pretty short though.
Edit: Although there are instances of sexuality, it's not in a bad way. It's adult subject dealt with by adults not 13YOs.
Edit: I'm not sure how I managed to do that.... You know what, I'm just going to leave it like that.

Clannad is quite sad but it is not the saddest anime ever. I still think the grave of the fireflies.

Well, characters having sex (off screen) and talking about it is fine. It's just I generally do my TV (including anime) watching while I'm at the gym. I stream stuff to watch while I'm on the treadmill. So like I'm like immune to shame enough to be that guy watching cartoons at the gym, but not that guy watching titty cartoons.
Im very upset. I had to wait one fething week to put a preoreder on a show I wanted (Needed my next check) and now its gone from crunchy so im assuming it was a limited run or something. Damnit! This always happens!
Comments are still down all over the site so im hoping its a glitch in the system but I dont hold much hope the store seems to be working just fine

Planetes is very good, and while it gets a little dark near the end it's a happy ending and it's never really tragic.

Actually, if you sympathized so much with the FMA:B scene because of what's happened to you, Clannad will probably do the same thing but even worse.
I dunno Clannad just seems like it's overly dramatic and just not my style. Full metal alchemist just got better towards the end and things don't always feel forced. Often the brothers just go into some serious sh*t because of their jobs.
Also i mean the original full metal alchemist not full metal alchemist brotherhood. I'm not sure how they differ but something tells me it is like the difference between hellsing and hellsing ultimate. Speaking of which i only saw the first hellsing as well. So yeah i only saw the normal FMA and normal hellsing.
Also i won't lie though what i said about my mom is true sometimes i bring it up to gain a bit of sympathy which is a very crappy thing to do esp. in the memory of my mom. I was kind of debating with myself whether to bring it up or not but i did. In case you guys don't know Trondheim lost his wife to breast cancer and he's only about 25 so cut him some slack sometimes. I only wish he had a sense of humor or something. I think that's what prevented him from wanting to continue being friends with me (well that and i'm a massive pervert). Just because you share a fairly similar event in life doesn't mean you'll have a successful relationship whether friendly or otherwise.

Both FMA's started based on the manga, but the original FMA caught up very quickly. Instead of adding filler episodes and waiting for the manga to finish, they wrote their own unique ending. FMA Brotherhood, however, follows the manga for its entirety. The first twenty episodes of the original FMA cover the same material as the first ten episodes of Brotherhood, but they diverge from there.
While the original FMA is pretty good, Brotherhood simply blows it out of the water. Brotherhood is phenomenal, with an intricate and massive cast of complex characters and plotlines.

"you should have bled out by now!"
"I sealed the wound shut!"

I litter ally learnt to snap my fingers just because mustang.
now I can do it louder than anyone else I know.
also, indeed about hawkeye and mustang. I really love the fact that they don't need to have them dry humping by the ned for us to know that something is happening.
I have watched fullmetal alchemist bortherhood (all episodes) at least five times.

Brotherhood is still one of my favorites in terms of animes ever created.
Anyway, the definition of Otaku changes greatly between Japan and the outside: In Japan Otaku can be both an insult and a compliment IIRC. The insult is for those they consider shut-ins, NEETs, those who are truly addicted and obsessed with their anime live and girls. The compliment is when you are extremely good at something, like for example your PC broke down and someone suggests to take it to Bob because he's a "computer Otaku" and he should be able to help.
Well, something that didn't help the "Otaku culture" was the Otaku Murderer:
Tsutomu Miyazaki (宮﨑 勤 Miyazaki Tsutomu?, August 21, 1962 – June 17, 2008), also known as The Otaku Murderer or The Little Girl Murderer, was a Japanese serial killer, cannibal and necrophile who abducted and murdered four young girls in Saitama and Tokyo Prefectures from August 1988 to June 1989. His crimes included vampirism as a crime and preservation of body parts as trophies.
This is why we can't have nice things. Akihabara used to have Cosplay on Sundays, but the Akihabara Massacre changed that too:
The Akihabara massacre (秋葉原通り魔事件 Akihabara Tōrima Jiken?, lit. "Akihabara random attacker incident") was an incident of mass murder that took place on Sunday, June 8, 2008, in the Akihabara shopping quarter for electronics, video games, manga and anime in Sotokanda, Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan.
At 12:33. JST, a man drove into a crowd with a truck, eventually killing three people and injuring two; he then stabbed at least 12 people using a dagger (initially reported as a survival knife[1]), killing four people and injuring eight.[2][3][4][5]
Outside Japan, many people who really like anime seem to love calling themselves Otaku. Just never call yourself one in Japan
yeah it seems that english just takes it as "nerd".
I will never forget one time wat school when we had japanese visiters. one guy, dan, had just finished showing me a *ahem* picture*ahem* of saeko from HOTD, when this girl who I used to be friends with walked past. this girl is obsessed with anime and hatsune miu, which me and my friend shad told dan. all of a sudden he jumps up, taps her shoulder and says "you are otaku?" and she smiles and goes "why yes, I am." really happily, and I just collapsed laughing.
No reason to "collapse laughing". It's a bit nerdy, but there's no harm in calling yourself an Otaku over in the west, it's not exactly a "SHAMEFUR DISPRAY, YOU MUST COMMIT SUDOKU" thing . Different cultures with different meanings and all that.
Japanese are guilty of plenty of funny stereotyping too. This is an obvious exageration, BUT, not that far from the truth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bYh2jFmdQw I donno what you call that thing his hair does around his face but mine does that too...
I'd cosplay ol' Violence Jack if I wasn't weedy and small.
Btw how is the new Fate Stay Night? I only saw the old one. It was alright but meh. Is this the same story arc or is it different? If i remember there's a visual novel somewhere where you can play it and it has different routes. Which is probably the p**n mentioned.
Besides if you have issues about anime once being p**n then i have good news for hellsing fans . Yep it was all p**n.

I'm just trying to figure out how a story based around pulling historical figures (mostly, it seems, men) back to life to battle over a wish-granting artifact could have been eroge.

You didn't even see the one that was fully based around historical figures around japan as girls. If i remember there's one with Oda Nobunaga and all the other leaders of the sengoku jidai period all as girls. Yeah it's times like this i hate anime. I'm actually looking forward to the next episode of parasyte which should air tomorrow unless it's going to wait a season before releasing.
The first thing I thought after reading that little article thing was "wow the character design looks good, where can I find this?"
the second was: "I'd hit that."
and the third: "Feth it, I'm going back to tartarus.

I used the mod based on that anime for my Shogun 2 campaign.
To see my loli general sitting on her bench surrounded by her bodyguard unleashing hell upon the castles was hilarious. And cool. And awesome. I felt great joy looking at my loli covered in blood and conquering Japan

The game shows they're normal sized compared to the player's avatar "The Admiral", so no not quite. More like Arpeggio of Blue Steel's mental models maybe?
the end of that sentance confused me significantly.
well if they aren't giant than I might look into it...aybe. if it's dubbed...which I'm gusessing it's not.... WAIT IS THIS AN ANIME OR A GAME?

Kancolle is a game that is getting an anime this season. The first episode is in around 3 days, so it's little far of being dubbed. They haven't even got the Japanese out yet...
It will probably stream on animelab for free in Aus and Nz since it's been grabbed by madman, but for everyone else, Cruncyroll has it.
Actually playing the game is a real pain since you need to have the will to work through a language barrier, get a proxy IP and then do a weekly event to even get access to the game. To much trouble for what you get IMO. It's about as engaging as a phone game.
I'm surprised that you think they were robots. Have you never seen anthropomorphized characters before? It's the same idea as cat girls, but with boats.... this time.... Just stick the best boat bits on a person and bam. done. Boatgirl. The reason so many are small chested is because the class of ship and their chest size is linked. You have a lot of destroyers and very few battleships so you will notice a lot smaller girls and fewer big ones.
I'm all for it then. Yes I'm *ahem* know of, catgirls but the weird gun mini-torpedo things frew me off. also the fact that the water seemed somehow smaller than it should have.
sounds kind of intresting, tho probably not my exact cup of tea. I will check out an episode of it when it comes out, I may even wach it subbed (dun dun dun).

You're pretty much right about everything except the release date: It's already upped and subbed
From what I know, they ARE human, they are just weapon-ized. In the game, when you "create" a boat you don't want, you can "recycle" her for some materials back. The official fluff is that the the weapon systems are removed and the girl returns to her normal human life. Which I'm quite happy for, because the alternatives are nightmare-fuel:
I'm sorry, Admiral...
... You feel disappointed because I came out, right?
... You would have preferred another girl, don't you? A rare one?
But, you know? Naka-chan is happy... to have met you... Admiral.
Spoiler:
Here's the arrangement if you are into some soft music
That's horrible. You son of a grot why would you post that...
Naka-chan's my flagship right now >.>;
The game is actually pretty fun once you get used to the language barrier, I'm mostly on step with what's going on and what I'm doing after watching some let's plays. I applied to the lottery for a slot on the server and got in on the first run.
What's really disturbing about everyone being confused by KanColle is apparently you people haven't seen Strike Witches, which is pretty much the same concept, most of the Kanmusume wear more clothes though...

Well, I mean that was conscious decision, at least on my part.

One day you'll have to learn the joys of google and wikipedia
Set in an alternate Earth in the mid twentieth century, Strike Witches tells the story of a fight to protect the world using a combination of magic and technology in a fictional recreation of events occurring in World War II with the national armies joining forces to confront an overwhelming alien threat together instead of fighting among themselves. Most battles featured in the franchise are fictional recreations of real conflicts of that time, with the human army taking the role of the Allied Forces, and the Neuroi assuming the side of the Axis Powers.
The titular Strike Witches are young women with high magical potential who are recruited into military organizations around the world to fight against the enigmatic Neuroi, which began an invasion of unprecedented scale on human territory in 1939. This puzzling enemy force has appeared frequently and without warning in many areas across the world throughout history. The weapons of the Neuroi mostly take on forms similar to aircraft, but their most troubling tactic is the spreading of a corrosive miasma. Not only do normal humans have no defense against this miasma, but the remnants of the land affected by it are processed by the Neuroi into new weapons, crumbling huge sections of former nations into the sea. As the miasma seems to be unable to spread across large bodies of water, humanity has designated such areas as their main lines of defense.
To bring out their potential for use in battle, each Witch equips a unique machine onto their legs: the Striker Unit. With the Striker Unit equipped, they gain the ability to fly and their tapped magical potential provides the strength to utilize weapons far too heavy and powerful for a normal person. A defensive field is also created that can protect the Witches from the Neuroi's miasma, as well as other physical weaponry, making them humanity's trump card in the war. The franchise's main media focuses on the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, defending the Britannian home islands, in the first season, as a parallel to the Battle of Britain, and struggling to retake an occupied Italian peninsula in the second season as a parallel to the late stages of the Adriatic Campaign. In the feature film, the 501st join forces to repel an enemy offensive near the Rhine in a fashion similar to the events of the Battle of the Bulge.

That's perfectly fair, but you're aware of the concept at least.
Ahahaha! Oh, Strike Witches. I heard about that one in a really, really strange way.
So I've got a friend who's a gun nut, and he was talking about some sort of rare stock scope that was produced with original models of a WWII rifle he's got. I didn't understand what he was talking about (being more about hitty things than shooty things) so he googled the scope (some sort of tri-scope with a pointy bar coming up from the bottom and two not-pointy bars coming in from the sides) to show me what he was talking about. On the first page, and one of the only accurate representations of how the scope was set up, was a picture showing a shot through the scope, of an anime chick's butt.
Naturally, we had to find out what the context of the picture was. We found out it was from an anime called "Strike Witches" and the scope was actually (for whatever reason) attached to a fire hose.
We watched the first episode.
My friend's reaction (as he's not a super-regular Anime watcher, more used to things like Trigun and Hellsing and KlK and Gurren Lagann, rather than things like Infinite Stratos or Nanoha) was glorious. Nopes and OMGs and whygodwhy's abounded, and I really wish we'd been recording his reactions for YouTube. The bit where they just suddenly had animal ears and tails was fantastic, too. Based on how he reacted to that, I'm hoping to record his reaction to Infinite Stratos as well.
You're pretty much right about everything except the release date: It's already upped and subbed
Well colour me kancolle. It says on Anichart it screened 9 minutes before this post in japan. http://anichart.net/
I can't complain i guess, but I'll still wait for the legal release. Also I don't mean to boast... but I have Takao as my flagship. Suck it. I got lucky as heck in the ship creation.

You should be able to get a legal stream somewhere at least...
It was alright. Better than the bear one. Definitely got a strong Strike Witches vibe off of it so far, though having only seen like the first and maybe second episodes of that one as well.
I watched the first episode of strike witches.
good action, check.
interesting if odd characters, check.
interesting and convoluted plot, check.
attractive redhead, check.
my kind of anime is a go people!
eventho the main character is only year younger than me, I still feel just a bit pedo whenever her butt is taking up the entire screen.

Don't feel like that.
Lolis are love! Lolis are life! PRAISE THE LOLIS!
(oh, and because it kinda annoys me to no end how people don't seem to be able to understand a drawing is different than real-life... I find amusing how some artists I like do disclaimers like "The girl depicted here is 18 years old" for a drawing. Well, at least they manage to dodge the bullet that way. Oh, and ofc this only happens for western artists)
God dammit Naruto! The Manga's over so you don't really need to be worried about catching up to and having to wait for more to be released to cut it out with all the stupid filler interrupting things!
I caught thefirst episode of kancolle last night. Pleasantly impressed so far. Hopefully it can keep it up for the rest of the season. Unryuu making an appearance would not be unappreciated either...
Next up on my watching schedule is Stardust Crusaders season 2. I'm a diehard JJBA fan so I can barely contain my excitement at this point.

"But we wrote all these extra episodes just in case we'd need them, it would be a waste to not air them..."
5 eps into trike witches. all of the characters accept the eye-patch woman could be rreplaced by bricks with panties and a different emote drawn on them.
SHUCKALACKA ASHAKALACKA SHAKALAKA! GODS OF ANIME, WE OFFER THIS PERSON TO YOU IN RETURN FOR MORE BUTTS AND IN DEPTH STORY BUT THIS TIME DON'T GIVE US HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD OR WE'LL TAKE BACK THE SACRIFICE!

Haha, nicely done, welcome to our ranks! We have cookies and pantsu! Myself, I loath figurines with articulation but Yamato's is really damn cool from what I see, nice choice
Only one episode of Eden of the East to go and my, oh my, what a wild ride this has been. I have no idea how one last episode can tie the loose ends and end the plot, but I guess that's what the movies are for.
the shrouded lord wrote: I am....ok with that.
ehich is your guys favourite of the bricks?
I liked the little one who was friends with the science one she was funny.
Well i judge bricks by their quality, and really, all of them but that one bronze coloured one are quite badly baked.
My real answer.... would probably be.... grumpy bum cat biri biri i think. The fact I can't recall a name but i only finished the show my self last week shows how much i gave a dam about any of them i guess.

This is the first one I ever bought. It will be with me forever. Also, GET JEALOUS.

Spoiler:
Yes, that's a gothic lolita Asuka.
B*tch, please, don't make me get my 7 Rei's so I can wipe that smug look off your face.
I kid, it's a very nice one I love the alternative suits, I have a "Race Queen", "Cat-Girl" and "Sega"
I could never buy those anime figurines for one reason: I would look silly. Im not quite ready to dive down that rabbit hole yet.
BTW, until watching KLK I thought the dracon lord's avatar was male.
Hmmm, I've got some various toys and figures and plushes around here but now that I think about it, none of them are from an anime. I think the closest I come is my Tofu plush from the French animated series Wakfu.
Grey Templar wrote: So what order should Hellsing be watched in? Is Ultimate like FMA Brotherhood in that its a remake? Or is it a sequel?
It's the same as Brotherhood, so not a remake. It's the actual story where manga is finished and they don't have to come up with their own stuff. Ultimate is also 100 times better animated.
