Since the Batman vs. Superman SDCC trailer got its own thread, I felt a more deserving movie should as well, especially since the original thread was lost to the bowels that is off topic page 2 or later. The Deadpool trailer was leaked. And it sounds/looks fantastic. Seriously NSFW.
It's a very small screen. But it's worth it. Seeing him call colossus a rooster gobbler (substituted for the other word) made me laugh hard. And they've worked in (and reworked) footage for that pilot trailer that leaked half a year ago.
KingCracker wrote: Yup that'll be a fun movie. The Freddy Kruger Utah face bit made me actually laugh.
Yep... I cant wait, there is another youtube version out there as well that I saw before I saw this thread. Looks like they got a bit of the Tarantino nature of DP in there as well (looking through his arm that's just been shot.... matter particles exiting people who've just been shot, etc)
And they even managed to get the white eye look on the Deadpool costume, while still keeping the eye movement in there (must be quite a tight mask though)
This will likely go down as the best FOX based Marvel movie yet, as it looks so far to be sticking to the true source material from back in the 90s. They even have Blind Al (the old woman)! That was quite a shocker to me, but proof positive these guys know what they're doing. The only question is how far they'll go to break the 4th wall: trailer was subtle so far, with the dig at Green Lantern, but we'll see how it goes. I have the utmost faith in these guys.
And here it is, my 2nd most loved Marvel character, I absolutely can't wait for this movie <3 I'm hoping for some goofy 4-th wall breaking or it won't be a true Deadpool experience!

The Punisher. I have a comic with both of them, with The Punisher trying to catch Deadpool. It's so amazing <3

I'm expecting a line in the moving about sealing or sewing his mouth shut with a reply of how stupid that would be.

I'm pretty excited about this, and hopeful that if the Deadpool movie does well - and why wouldn't it? - that it will open the way for a Taskmaster movie.

Probably not going to happen/won't be a big deal if it does as this one is RATED R, so, yeah.
Don't worry they will still freak. I saw parents lose it in a Mad Max movie, and the Mist. Anyone see the unedited version of the Mist? Now imagine a 3 year old in it.
In contrast NO ONE WARNED ME that Tangled was a musical and that little girls would be dancing in the aisles, Oh the humanity!
To be fair with horror movies: Having a three year old might just make the terrifying experience more immersive, and some places would charge you extra for that kind of 4D experience!

Seems like it. The trailers show it to be at least 95% comic book accurate so far, including lesser known characters like Ajax and Blind Al. I expect if you liked the 90s Deadpool comics, you'll salivate over this movie. I've already requested the day off from work.

They directly reference the Weapon X program in the trailer, they are staying very accurate to the original Deadpool run.

My reading comprehension failure. I thought he might have been discussing the Wolverine Origins one.
In regards to the comic one, yeah, that version is fully in, from all appearances. Again...at least 95% comic accurate. Maybe more.

My group of friends went to go see South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut in the theater. Next to us, someone brought a seven year old. Based on the parent's face, he had no idea what South Park was about...
Gonna dredge this back up from a couple months back, as the movie hits the screen just before Valentine's Day. I will be dressing up as good 'ol Wadey Wilson for my little foray to the theater. But first-a haiku!
Deadpool stabs bad guys
Bad guys bleed all over floor
Deadpool is hero
I will be waiting the 2 most painful days of my life because my GF thought it would make a great Valentine's Day movie and in no way could I come up with something to disagree with that.
Will there ever be a more perfect Valentine's Day?
Possibly the only thing that would make it better (for us) is if she has no idea what she's getting herself into, and has only seen those campy "rom-com" style posters that have been popping up around the internet.

Unfortunately she knows who Deadpool is and encourages my like for the character lol. She is currently trying to decide her Deadpool themed outfit haha.
Either Lady Deadpool if she's a blonde, Copycat if she has blue skin, Siren if she's a redhead, or Negasonic Teenage Warhead if she's an obnoxious punk girl with a shaved head.
Never read the comics and I thought the trailer looked really dumb. A jerk-hero constantly cracking jokes while shot in slow mo, meh. Didn't they already do as equally terrible movie with Will Smith in Hancock?
stanman wrote: Never read the comics and I thought the trailer looked really dumb. A jerk-hero constantly cracking jokes while shot in slow mo, meh. Didn't they already do as equally terrible movie with Will Smith in Hancock?
The only similarity between the characters is that they're both donkey-caves. Hancock was a lazy piece of gak who wanted to be left alone to get drunk and resented people asking him to actually be a hero. The latter part of movie was about him reforming. That's not Deadpool.
If you don't follow Deadpool much at all, you're probably looking at a film that's something like Kickass or Scott Pilgrim as some sort of very very distant comparison.
Maybe Ace Ventura or Austin Powers, but that's suuuper stretching it.

Ah stuff it, just watch this...
They called Deadpool a mutant in it at one point. What a bunch of jackasses.
Not at all; if they're gonna hype a guy up, they should know a little bit about him is all. In EVERY x-men comic where he runs into them, he pretends to be a mutant, and they yell at him that he isn't one.
Although Marvel Vs Series (LCG) also put him as an X-men leader. So what do I know?

His powers *are* mutant-derived, though. At the very least he's a mutate. And he spent most of his early stuff interacting with the X-Men. And he's close allies with Wolverine and Cable (mutants). And he was in an X-Men movie. It's not as egregious an error as you're trying to make out.
Honestly, I think the fact that they are doing stuff like this as part of their ad campaign is awesome... It's a bit of charity and using a person who can talk about anything on screen, to talk about "anything" on screen
Honestly...disappointed he didn't bring psylocke in as a "test model". After how he fantasized over her in the game, and given how naughty Munn's sense of humor/attitude is rumored to be, it would have been perfect to pull her in in costume, to discuss. Would also have worked as great cross-material, and would have all stayed in Fox's realm. I just think after he did one for the boys, they phoned it in for the girls.
She also has the most comic-accurate female costume. So it could have been quite well done.
Okay, so it hits tonight. Who is going tonight? Who is going on the official "opening day" tomorrow? Getting people to come with me is iffy for tonight, so I'm heading tomorrow at 3pm to the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers! Going in costume too!
Wasnt really convinced not having a lot of knowledge of DP. Thought it as just another quriky cool, anti-hero spin but that trailer was pretty darn funny
Well, this movie focuses solely on his 90's comic run. And the trailers hit that to a T (except the inclusion of Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus). The actual story though? Yup. Trailers suggest it's all there. If you have faith in Rob Liefield and Fabian Nicieza, you'll be in good hands. Rob created Deadpool, Fabian fleshed him out. Fabian also wrote a TON of the X-men stuff in the later part of the 90s and into the early 2000s. One of my favorite writers. He was a very convincing storyteller.
Rob Liefeld is one of those people who was inexplicably popular in the 90s. That he was responsible for the original art for the character is true, but that doesn't always mean that he's the person best suited towards guiding the IP to it's fullest potential.
Watched it tonight, giggled most of the way through it. It's no master piece but it is an enjoyable piece of entertainment. Could have been better, should have been a lot worse. Great green lantern and x-men movie references. I was surprised it was a 15 as there's plenty of swearing, sex scenes and a number of decapitations.

Hmm, what's all this th-
OH GOD! Mah eyes!
But seriously. How do these guys keep finding work? I'm optimistic for the movie to at least be a decent popcorn flick. My expectations are pretty so-so. But seriously. How is the guy who created what must easily be one of the most reviled things to ever hit a big screen still employed?
Rob Liefield "created" him, meaning he wrote him first in New Mutants #98. Cable pretty much bitch-slapped him into oblivion (aka a FedEx box). He wasn't much of a character then, didn't have the wit, was just a merc in a red suit. Fabian was one of the guys who really built him up. So Liefield "birthed" him, Fabian was his "wet nurse". Make of that what you will.
Good to know, I have my costume on, but with pants. It's a tad cold outside, and spandex doesn't do much to warm! I'd rather not have a nature-induced sex change before the movie!
I saw it, in IMAX no less (and not Lie-MAX, Manchester Printworks is the real deal). First film in cinema I've been to in a while, last one was Jurassic World (which was a bit eh). I've been more excited about Deadpool than BvS and SS based on trailer content alone.
It's amazing. The film is just as good as the trailers make it out to be. I felt the villain was a little weak but Reynolds' Deadpool more than made up for it. Had me in stitches from start to finish.
Without spoiling it, make sure you stick around after the credits roll
Just got out of a Deadpool showing and have two words to describe it.....FREAKING AWESOME!!!! When I saw how the opening credits were done, I knew they had done it right. Multiple 4th wall breakage, including a 4th wall break INSIDE of a 4th wall break. Whoever they got to voice Colossus was perfect for the role. Best superhero film ever? Maybe not but this one is right up there with it IMHO.
Oh and it's definitely NOT a film you can bring your kids to. The R rating is well deserved.
Not a Deadpool fan but enjoyed it along with the wife.
Kept a good balance. As my wife said we started with some concern that it would be relentlessly hammy but it kept a good balance.
Colossus worked. Apparently they had one guy do the general motion capture and voice (director insisted on a native Russian speaker?) and someone else do the facial motion capture.
Breotan wrote: I'll try to see this tonight. If Renolds can actually pull it off, I'll have higher hopes for Affleck.
Weirdest correlation ever. If someone with established comedic acting chops can play a comedic character then someone else with established dramatic acting chops (admittedly hit or miss from a project choice perspective) will do a good job...in unrelated movies. Yes.
Not to mention Reynolds has been a fan favorite to play the character since before Origins due to his comedic timing and also ability to play an action character. Also he basically played the character in Blade Trinity and was pretty much the highlight of the film.
Affleck, whose previous attempt at a similar role was pretty terrible, being cast as Batman was met with a collective '...bwah?'.
So, is anybody else seeing it multiple times this weekend? I'm going again today with a friend who wasn't able to come yesterday. No costume today though. That's really only appropriate on opening day. And Halloween. And cons. And release on BluRay day. And my birthday.
Not this weekend, but I've already seen it once and I'm going again with my mate when he visits me so he can see it in IMAX (ie the only way it should be watched). He's only ever seen LieMAX! Tragedy, really.
Just got back from second viewing. Still couldn't make out that #comment he made early on (not the one with Negasonic). Anyone wanna spoiler what he said for me?
Round three hits Monday the 22nd when more friends visit.
The wife and I watched Dead pool today. It was hilarious! We both laughed just about the whole time. I highly recommend watching this, I wouldn't argue with someone saying it's one of the better super hero movies.
Oh and it's definitely NOT a film you can bring your kids to. The R rating is well deserved.
Its only a 15 in the UK for some reason, changing times I suppose.
It's funny because most places have it as 15+ or 16+ (or 14+ for Canada, Portugal and Chile by the looks of it).
It's only R (or equivalent) in the US, Singapore, South Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia, Russia and Hong Kong (?). Not sure about that last one but I'm assuming that III is their equivalent to R.
The F bomb gets dropped about every 15 seconds, there's a full nude scene at a strip club, plus other normal R rated nude scenes, and tons of gore. It earned its R rated title.
timetowaste85 wrote: Just got back from second viewing. Still couldn't make out that #comment he made early on (not the one with Negasonic). Anyone wanna spoiler what he said for me?
Spoiler:
When he farted while walking by Blind Al, he said "Hashtag driveby".
Millar still seems to get one of his books made into something watchable every few years (despite the source material). Miller for that matter as well, although I still haven't seen the second Sin City despite being a big fan of that era of his work.
It's not as though are rated stuff gets ignored. Frankly Deadpool would have had more impact if we weren't also able to watch pretty impressive Daredevil and Jessica Jones on Netflix.
There's not many other (any?) typically R rated characters with the kind of popularity that Deadpool has, and many of the 'adult' books that are really good aren't just good because of nudity, swearing and gore.
I don't think this represents much of a paradigm shift.
It was a good film, fun. I liked it was genuinely a romance film after all. The teenage girls along the row from me also particularly enjoyed the various shots of Ryan Reynolds posterior.
But... did anyone else think it was a lot... tamer than they were expecting? Ok, sure, there was a lot of blood and gore and things. But even then, say, I felt the Batman section of the last BVS trailer was more brutal than anything in Deadpool.
The thought also crossed my mind with: "If people thought the humour in this was majorly risque, I can't help but think that Mrs Browns Boys, Still Game or Chewin The Fat would blow their minds..."
Oh and it's definitely NOT a film you can bring your kids to. The R rating is well deserved.

With a lot of swearing, sex, sex references, full nudity and violence, I can't believe it got a 15. Is it only grotesque Human Centipede stuff that gets an 18?
I really enjoyed the film. His face wasnt nearly as bad as the film was trying to make out so having peole act with such horror and the idea his girlfriend would reject him didn't convince. In every other way it was a great film, much enjoyed this valentines!
We both loved it. My wife says it's the best movie romance ever. The only thing she didn't like was the amount of ...limb-related injuries. Trying not to spoiler it, but some things are gruesome without blood and guts.
We almost had to leave after the trailer for The Purge: Election Year, though. Never thought I'd say this, but they could have used a trigger warning on that.
With a lot of swearing, sex, sex references, full nudity and violence, I can't believe it got a 15. Is it only grotesque Human Centipede stuff that gets an 18?
I'm not sure if the full nudity was actual full nudity, it looked like it was but I couldn't see any sign of genitals. There was a fair bit of boobage but virtually all the sex was alluded too rather than shown (including the immortal International Women's day)and the gore wasn't all that bad to be honest. Quite a lot of amputations and the like but they were relatively bloodless. Its borderline but I don't think its inappropriate for a 15.
Also you could definitely see a woman full frontal though briefly in the club. I don't think it was inappropriate for 15, but they've clearly relaxed in recent years.
There is a very brief shot of burnt up Freddy Krueger wang in the lab fight scene where everything is on fire, plus full on boob shots in the strip club. Nudity tends to jack up the rating much more than violence these days, kill a hundred faceless goons Rambo style with dismemberment and exploding heads barely a soft R, sneak a flaccid peen into a film you land a hard R instantly.
As for Deadpool setting the curve for mature superheros? I think people forgot about Watchmen rather quickly which IMO certainly pushed a lot of boundries far more than Deadpool. It certainly had a lot of electric blue penis screen time w Dr Manhattan.
I saw it yesterday and I thought it was a good movie even though I'm not the biggest Deadpool fan. Of course, having a solo lunch date at the movies while enjoying loaded fries and vanilla milkshake always makes for a good time!
I'll definitely be getting the Blu-Ray of this when it comes out.
The intro was just so damn good. The song just fit so good with the scene. The super wedgie...
That hand thing was pretty creepy and funny at the same time.
I saw both Deadpool and Kung Fu Panda 3 this week. Deadpool was alright but I think I enjoyed Kung Fu Panda a lot more.
I like Reynolds as a comedic actor but too many of the lines felt canned and didn't mesh well with his normal delivery style. Maybe it's the mask and lack of facial expression. Laughed at stuff but not as much as I did with some of his other films where he felt more natural. ::Shrug::

Saw it yesterday. I expected it to be good after all the positive reviews and the awesome trailers and it didn't disappoint. I loved Deadpool, and Colossus has always been one of my favorite X-Men so it was nice to see him get some significant screen time. I liked Negasonic Teenage Warhead and it was cool to see what they could do with a not even third string X-Man. I thought she was a good fit for the film.
The only reason why you guys like this movie is because of the "R rated nature comic movie".
As a movie of any substance it sucked hard.
It was total comic porn. There was total frontal nudity, both male (deadpool) and female genitalia (stripper scene). Violence porn...people were laughing at the violence as though it were funny..which is scary in my opinion.
I should have learned my lesson from Watchmen which, unlike this mess of a movie, I thought was well done, but should have heeded the R rating and skipped it. I couldn't believe someone brought their 13 or 14 year old kid to see this (2 seats over from me).
Seriously besides the gratuitous violence, sex and swearing, what else makes this film good?
I can't really find one redeeming thing about it.
I have to admit some of the comedy was funny, but it did go way over the top 90% of the movie. which I guess is why you guys liked it ?

This is like complaining that people only like "Once Upon A Time In The West" because it's a Spaghetti Western. Or that people only like Frozen because it's an animated Disney princess movie full of musical numbers.

Actually no, we like it because it was a funny and enjoyable movie. With good action scenes and genuinely funny comedy.
They nailed the character of deadpool. Of course if you don't like deadpool then deadpool isn't the movie for you.
Violence porn...people were laughing at the violence as though it were funny..which is scary in my opinion.
You realise its a movie and movie violence isn't real Right?
Honestly sounds like you dislike sex and violence in movies and that's fine but just because you don't see anything good about the movie doesn't mean others don't. Why go see R rated movies if you are sqeemish about the kinds of things are rated movies contain?
All I'm saying guys, is that the only appeal of this movie is for people that like gratuitous sex and violence. If you remove all that, all you have is a generic, sub par superhero movie. I like to go to movies to see stories, that mean something. Not just a bunch of frat humor, and slicing people up...you know because it's cool to go around and stick people with swords and stuff, and it's real funny to show how a guy can get shot up his bung hole...
Like I said..at least the watchmen had a decent story behind it.

Except nothing you said is true. You are assigning reasons that you think other people like it so you can complain that they like it. If you didn't like it that's fine no one cares. I could say the only reason you didn't like it is because you are a prude but that would be equally bs. We all like different things for different reasons don't assigning other people reasons for liking something to them because you are unhappy that people like something you don't like.

generalgrog wrote: The only reason why you guys like this movie is because of the "R rated nature comic movie".
GG
Take your high horse somewhere else. Reported for your poor attitude. If you had any common sense, you'd have known before going in that this movie was not made for someone with your particular views. Almost everyone loved this, and it was the second highest grossing comic movie weekend ever. Or did everyone in the world just love "comic porn", as you put it.
I spoke to a few people at work about it and my advice was basically this:
It's a Deadpool movie. It has gratuitous violence, lots of nudity, crude humor, and everything you would expect from Deadpool. But as far as violence/nudity/crude joke movies goes, it was a well done movie. I expect that there will be a lot of people that won't like it, but I expect that they won't like it because of the type of movie it is and not because it was a badly done movie.
Awesome movie. Easily the best comic book movie I've seen since Iron Man. I think I liked it even better than Iron Man honestly. The opening credits alone are pure gold.
Oh definitely. It was so good I actually forgot it was Fox XD I've disliked pretty much every X-Man movie, and like most people thought the only real high point in Origins Wolverine was Reynolds as Wade Wilson (for all of 15 seconds).
Spoiler:
And just saying I really liked that they broke up the origin story into sections and told the present story line in between. Very Deadpool and it just broke up the monatony of so many other super hero films with their bungling narrative that usually spends too much time on the origin story before anything really good happens.
And damn it's made 5x its budget in box office opening weekend alone XD.
Probably because they had so little to do with it aside from trying to make sure it didn't happen. They were pretty hands off, likely because they assumed it would be a flop anyway - the reason they chopped 9mil from the budget a week before production started, and took like 10 years to decide to greenlight it.
Hopefully they're just as hands off with the sequel, and get the same writers and director back.
It's amazing what can happen with a movie's budget isn't out of control, is made by people with a passion for what their doing, and isn't focus tested into a soulless cliche (you know, like all the other X-Man movies ).

Oh, believe me; I know Fox was hands off on the whole thing. And I hope they stay that way on lots of things in the future. It'll be good for their health. And pockets.
I'm just unhappy that I wasted time and money on this film, and am adding my dissenting voice to the forum.
No, you're purposefully getting people's backs up by saying it was a bad movie and they only liked it because boobs and blood. Which is a ridiculous stance to hold if you then come back and try and say "I'm just saying I didn't like it". Trying to aggravate people like that isn't a very constructive posting habit.
Forgot.. I was dealing with super sensitive dakkites.

Funny thing is tonight I saw an Asian family sit next to me in the theater. There was, I estimate, a 14, 9 and 6 year old girl as a part of their group. I could only shake my head in disbelief at these parents. However, at about the 15 minute mark during the fight at the beginning of the film, the family packed up and left the theater. Guess they learned, from now on, to read the review of a film to see if it's family friendly.

What happens is that they throw a pile of money at the sequel and intensely micromanage every aspect of its production to 'ensure' another hit. Deadpool was obviously a fluke, company executives can't stand the idea people can produce good films without them, it makes their input seem redundant. Now for the sequel to be a success, they'll have to take back the reins especially after throwing all that money at the film. First thing is obviously widening audience appeal to sell more tickets by diluting the sex and violence. If it did this well as a 15, it'll sell five times as much being a PG!
Deadpool himself addresses that in the redband trailer. I mean, he literally spells it out.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for parents who ignore movie ratings then complain about said movie. In fact, I regard them with contempt.
Edit: Wait a minute...whats the film rated at? I thought it was Rated "R", but Showcase Cinema (UK) has it listed as 15.

Because the ratings are guidelines not absolute laws, and the cinema cannot overrule parental consent?

It's only R (or equivalent) in about 5-6 countries. It has a 15+ or 16 rating in most other places, with a few (*looks at Canada*) giving it a 14+ rating.
It's weird when most countries are more light-handed when rating a film than the US...

Outside the T&A it really wasn't as violent as I expected. In the U.S. T&A scenes get a hard R, what is odd is usually if you got violence, swearing, some dong shots and vajajay you normally get NC-17. Must of been some DP fans doing the movies ratings or the US is getting more lenient on these things.
I'm surprise it even made it to Australia without being heavily censored, going by the government's gross mistreatment of video games lol.
Thankfully the treated of video games isn't as gross anymore because the one politician who was opposed to an R-rating for games (coz they're for kidz, yo) got the boot/quit and we got it really quick.
There is still the occasional "WTF we have an R-rating, why is this banned?" moment. Saint's Row IV initially was refused classification soon after the R rating was introduced and more recently Hotline Miami 2 was refused classification because of a supposed rape scene that wasn't actually a rape scene.
Thankfully they don't seem to be as strict or stupid with their ratings (or rather their refusal to rate things) when it comes to movies.

Maybe in the US but not in the UK. 12A allows kids under 12 in with an adult. 15 or 18 required you to be of that age to go into the cinema regardless of who is with you.

That'd be nice. Here it's pretty much if you have an adult 18 or older. Hell, at Deadpool there was 9 14-year old boys with what looked like their 60 year old grandpa.

Small point:
Redband trailers aren't usually aired anywhere beyond online or alongside other R-rated movies. It's also not unbelievable that some people as well don't understand that there even exists a "greenband" and "redband" trailer.
Just got back from it. I absolutely loved it, it was pretty much what a Deadpool movie "should" be.
Also, while I was initially skeptical when I saw Negasonic Teenage Warhead in the trailers (having never seen her in print in anything I've read), I personally thought the actress and Wade had great on-screen chemistry, their lines and parts were well done together.

She's a ridiculously minor character in the book...slightly more significant than 'Morlock killed off panel B'.
I agree she was great. I really liked that she had her official Xman jumpsuit on...and that we got a weird fastball special that didn't involve Colossus.
I'm sure I'll regret asking this but wtf was up with the scene where he's jerking it to the unicorn pony plush toy on his face? Is that a Brony fetish thing?

1.) I also didn't realize it was a Helicarrier, 2.) I didn't catch Bob - so I'm kind of excited that now I have 2 things to look out for now when I go see it a second time, and 3.) Yes, I did quietly enjoy that Negasonic was wearing the 90s blue team/gold team uniform. Although a big X belt would not have been ridiculous, but I guess she's a trainee.
Flipping awesome movie! Hope they don't ruin the sequel. I love how every now and then he would talk to the camera. Funny part is you can almost imagine him talking to himself and doing that anyway. Ryan finally found a movie role fit for him.
The crashed helicarrier was cool. A universe question, who the hell funds those things because they seem like a massive safety issue and they always seem to crash and likely cost more than a real aircraft carrier.
Another universe question, did the Reavers die? I would love to see a mash up with Deadpool and the Reavers working together.
Right up until the "Easter Egg" mid credit scene, I was hoping T-Ray would be the sequel's baddy. I can still hope for that. But the scene suggested maybe something else even more exciting!
One of my favorite sight gags was how Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead left the X Mansion the first time. No one else in the theater seemed to get it.

They left in the Blackbird but I don't remember any sight gag.

I'd guess there was 2 or 3 families that brought young kids. I'm talking 7 to 12ish. I wish I were shocked but sadly I'm not, people are just oblivious

For what it's worth, I was watching R rated movies at that age...I don't particularly see anything wrong with it.

That was the gag. An actual SR-71... With VTOL jets. The X-Men had one for a while until everyone realized how silly that was and changed the blackbird to the spaceship-looking jet from the Jim Lee era and the cartoon. It was just ridiculously retro, like NTW's uniform.
Well, in all fairness, I think the X-jet from from the first X-Men movies was decidedly more futuristic looking. The jet from the second movie was a lot more Blackbird-like though.

That doesn't seem to be a good argument as you watched rated R movies to early and now you are on Dakka. There must be a connection.
Seriously though I don't think anyone is saying no kid could handle it, but generally it isn't a good idea. Every kid thinks they are more mature than they are pretty much, and many parents think their kid is the exception but they rarely are.

What makes things an R-rated movie?
Nudity, profanity, and gore. Deadpool got an R for the first two, not really the last and quite frankly, only the last really should be any sort of problem for a pre-teen.

Not really the last? Seriously? Did you watch the same Deadpool as me? There was an absolute *tonne* of gore in that film.

It wasn't gory in the vein of a Saw film or something of that ilk, but it's still fairly gory. I mean, he saws off his own hand in full view of the audience, a dude become embedded in a road sign, there's numerous torture scenes, and a load of other things. It may not be the goriest film to eve be released, but lets not pretend that it wasn't gory.

Which is generally why we are talking about 7-10 year olds. I know kids will see it at some point, but I don't find much value in just being totally ok with a kid going to an adult film but really the issue (for me) is the parents taking them. Figuring out how to watch movies not meant for one is a rite of passage and parents taking them ruins all that.
Also, how much fun are the sex scenes with your mom right next to you?

I'd say that it was gory, the gore just wasn't gore for gore sake. It was gore for the sake of making the over-the-top violence realistic(ish).
I think that's part of what made the gore appropriate. A lot of movies would have just shown you that seen. Deadpool turns a discretion shot into a 4th wall break instead.
skyth wrote: A lot of the time it panned away from the really gorey stuff...like the recruiter...
I remember seeing plenty of gory stuff. What it seemed they did do though was take a page from Fury Road and they didn't dwell on it. The violence was there, but the camera didn't stay there showing the aftermath, it just showed it happen and moved on.
Saw it with a buddy last night and loved it. Second favorite super hero movie after Guardians. And like Guardians I'll be able to watch this a couple times a year and other times as background while hobbying.
Great movie, I loved the Stinger. Just was in bliss the entire movie, start to finish. every line, every scene. Not many movies keep my attention as much as this movie

I'm fairly sure they are canning T-Ray, the whole subplot about T-Ray being the real Wade Wilson (or not), and quite possibly also Vanessa becoming Copycat.
Also, when I first saw Vanessa with her short hair, I immediately thought about Domino rather than Copycat. She also fit's Domino's persona better, I think, since Domino's niche in regards to Deadpool is the sexy fun girlfriend, while Copycat is the sexy tragic femme fatale.
I like that they toned down DP's dementia and removed the question of his real identity. I marathonned all DP's comics about a year ago, and it's a real downer when you hit the point where you become convinced that DP is just a nameless psycho stalker.
The one thing that made me sad was the retcon to Blind Al. I mean, it was pretty assured, but I kept hoping they would find a way to maintain her as Captain America's old flame. Eventually, when the franchise picked up, that might have made a great confrontation.

Personally, Deadpool 2 should go off the really REALLY deep end, and involve his other, other... other? girlfriend, Death herself
...Man, that movie could go... places, and probably few of them pretty

That'll be later. If Cable is the next antagonist, then it's stands to reason that the next villain is actually the Techno-Organic Virus (through Cable). That might also tie into the Apocalypse X-men movie, given that he's a carrier.
Thanos will need to get more developpment before they introduce Death. After Infinity Gauntlet at least, and perhaps the next Guardian movie, so, perhaps for Deadpool 3?
Finally saw this movie. Had a blast. Very funny, great action, well put together and generally an excellent time in the cinema.
My fav bit was Deadpool trying to take out Colossus and breaking his foot and both hands.
As far as the violence and the rating goes, it's not a kid's film, pure and simple. And there wasn't much gore in this film. Blood splatter yes, but the most gory part was the splatting against the sign on the freeway, but they cut away from that very quickly.
It's not a perfect comparison, as it's "Ultra-Violence" rather than straight up gore, but the Spartacus TV show was more gory than this ever was. 300 was as well (also ultra-violence, but still). The gore in this was on the same level as the CGI bodies exploding from the AA-12 explosive rounds in the first Expendables film.

They cant. the Death subplot is very reliant on Loki and Thanos, two characters that they cannot use.
I saw it last night and I really really liked it. I have one minor complaint with it though.
Watched Deadpool today. Fantastic movie. Had me laughing from start to finish. As others have said, the Colossus fight on the highway is brilliant. That and the smack talk between Deadpool and Ajax.

Disney/Marvel owns the rights to the Helicarrier, but they don't own the rights to generic flying aircraft carriers.
If I remember the interviews right, the initial storyboards included the Helicarrier, and then they started working on changing it enough so that it looks like an aircraft carrier that may be able to fly and that people would recognize, but different enough so that it isn't THE Helicarrier.
Similar to how Disney/Marvel have mutants, but they are not calling them that.

Yea, figured it was a wink wink nudge nudge kinda thing.
Not that I'm complaining
I'm just glad they had Colossus, he was my favorite Xman growing up. No "Bozhe moi!" unless i missed it
Absolutely amazing. Me and my friend typically make snarky comments on dumb parts throughout movies we watch, especially superhero ones but Deadpool was so on point and self-aware we had nothing to say but laugh and gawk at scenes throughout the movie. All around amazing, definitely sets a new bar for the "super-hero" genre, if only because its so refreshing from how forthright it is about itself and how true it is to the Deadpool character.
Saw it for the second time this weekend, this time with the wife. I still love it and she about died laughing at multiple parts and she isn't really into comics and knows almost nothing about the character so that says a lot that the translation of the character came thru so well.
One interesting comment from someone at work today who went into the film, fully expecting to hate it and came out "vaguely amused" was, from talking to him...
He didn't realise that Deadpool was supposed to be 'insane'.
He felt that actually didn't come across in the film at all (though he apparently missed the part when Colossus commented on it.)
Instead he thought DP was just talking to the camera because that was the premise of the film.
He also thought that Colossus was literally some of the worst CGI he's ever seen in a cinema film, with the worst comical Russian accent he's ever heard. - He then went on to say that the original X-Men movies version of him was much better.
I'm kinda not really commenting on those statements but more just to show that the film apparently wasn't universally loved.

Finally saw it. Think it would have been better if his voices were in it as well, but at least colossus referred to him as multiple people to try to imply it. But then they have to balance his insanity otherwise the movie could go too far and become too goofy somehow.

I think that was put across with tonal changes. No way that could have been realised in a literal way without being completely confusing.
As much as they emphasized the 'not a normal superhero' stuff he was still a pretty straightforward good guy.
It's not as though we don't expect action heroes to leave a substantial pile of corpses behind them in movies.

That's because Deadpool is made by Fox, who owns the rights to the X-Men, so they don't have to dance around the whole Mutant thing. As evidenced by having the actual X-Men in the movie, as much as they were able to budget at least
