Super shard Japanese blades would not be so effective vs European knight in full armour. A broadsword was heavy, thick and solid to id not penetrate but still break bones, impact damage and such.
Plus later armour was easily bow proof, rarely pistol proof or early fire arms and hard to penetrate without a weapon designed to do job.
Alot of armour of Japan used lower levels of steel, wood, leather, etc which vs a broadsword impact would do not much. Japan had less experience or need of weapons to take down a steel clad knight.
Also the hand and a half sword also popular as easy to use one ir two handed has some weight to it and two handed would still hit hard.
Sword to sword, Europe wins as its just thicker, heavier and stronger Than a lighter Japanese blade.
I fail to see how having a lighter weapon is a downside. A samurai would easily outmaneuver a armour-clad knight with almost 50 kilo's of extra weight on him,
Yeah but that armour renders Tha attacker having a hard task inflicting a serious wound.
Impact force, if you canny pen the armour, the hevy impact shocks the wearer/does damage. A light weapon just hits armour and does nor do same secondary damage.
Also contary to some myth, knights where stong and fit as hell, training from a young age on good diets. Not weak guys and in well designed armour the impact on movement was not as bad as it could be. Not so lumbering tanks.
I would still assume the samurai would be light enough to dodge. And no matter how well trained a knight is, he still would not be able to move freely. The samurai would also then stab the weak unarmoured points in the back of knees etc. So the knight would bleed out as the samurai danced infront of him.
Now, if we pin an unpowered Katana vs an Astartes in full power armour, Astartes wins. Even if you hit the Astartes in the joint, I am sure his bones are going to stop the sword.
Sgt. Vanden wrote: I fail to see how having a lighter weapon is a downside.
Easier to push away, less strenght behind the blow, I've seen people complain about weapons being too light, and the katana is almost the smae weight as a longsword, but far shorter, the blade is thicker on the back, stiffer, too.
Sgt. Vanden wrote: A samurai would easily outmaneuver a armour-clad knight with almost 50 kilo's of extra weight on him,
Try about 30 kilos, actually, the tournament armors were the ones weighting about 50 kilos and were never intended for a serious fight. The weight is also distributed a lot better than you'd thing (for the record I carry about the weight of a full plate in my rucksack, its annoying as balls but I can move around freely, it'd be a lot better if the weight was spread all over my body). Furhtermore, the samurai armor still has weight and encumberance, I've read its apparently move constrictive than plate armor, but I wouldn't know. And even if the samurai could dance, around, the shorter lenght of his weapon means he's at a disadvantage.
Sgt. Vanden wrote: Okay, so thats that. Have we finished todays edition of 'Mines better than your's'?
Edit: By yours I mean history v history.
Samurai vs Knight should be a fight.
The trouble with that match-up is that, while both can be assumed to be of quite similar quality in terms of skill and attitude in battle, the Knight is significantly larger and stronger and also has significantly higher-quality equipment available to him at most points in history - European steel is much higher-quality than Japanese steel, as the latter didn't have access to a lot of iron and what they had was quite poor in comparison (this was what the famed 'steel folding' technique was actually for - not a secret trick to make a super-sharp blade, but a means of making the most of bad iron by diffusing the carbon content throughout the metal).
Word for word what I would've said if we had continued the argument

I've been picking away at part 1 of my Kroot taking out Edgar. It's mostly me debating on how to go about it, so there's been a lot of me shooting myself in the foot.
Does anyone know if the spine would stay together if it was taken out of the body? I'm thinking it would because of ligaments and all that, but I'm not sure.
Sure, but you have to sever the spinal cord in order to remove it without tearing it out, which would likely break the tendons and all. So completely doable, but more likely if cut out rather than torn out.

I know how you guys feel, this next piece that I'm co-writing with Vanden is already over 3000 Words, and I'm only 2/3 done
Progress report: Almost done with part one for my Kroot. Then I'm thinking I'll get something done for my orks. They are getting an interesting new friend, which I am happy about. After that, I'll work on part two for the kroot.
Well TS, I have to make some sort of chant for my orks when they ride to war now. Probably be related to trukks, and very tolken-esque if I do manage it.
This new friend would love some time with your knights, WK. And then Gorgrim would love time with the scraps. Oh those shiny shiny knights... he's already drooling over the thought of making them better. And then Glotzinga could improve your pilots too. Chainsword arms for everyone!

Evergreen, I cannot thank you enough for them. Folks, you're in for a treat. Now, I just need to finish up my Kroot so I can work on the orks. Rather excited for this, and this weekend will (hopefully) be a time for a lot of opportunities for work on my end.
If you feel up to it, then I'd say go for it. It'll be nice for more places to see and interact with.
Also, is the victory for the orks, so they don't scatter every direction and fall to chaos, or is the victory to the players, who now have easier pickings among the ferals?

Ok, now I suddenly don't care what Chazz or TS say, The Imperial and Space Marine fleet would never be as stupid to let that happen. Evergreen should get bombed as soon as the Imperials find any trace of nid anywhere. If it was orks or tau or Eldar, the Imperium would probably refrain fom mass bombardment due to severe collateral damage, but with nids...Everything will die regardless...

I would say the Guardsmen. They seem cooler, and it would be great to see a "standard" guardsman's view on the COF conflict.
A destroyer cult could he very cool, and also bring a whole new depth to the dangers on Crion.
However, seeing more of the guardsmen running around, being meatshields, and shooting endless lasrounds at the enemy would also be cool. It'd also show more of how the Imperium at large is dealing with Crion. We may have space marines everywhere, and some scions, among others, but each faction has its own agenda. Some hammer of the Emperor could be very useful.

Oh my friend, they are nothing near 'standard'. But sure.
The 2nd Helsreach ‘Gorgons’. Straight out of the previous campaign, Lord General Henri McFallus sighed. He pictured Helsreach once more for the nineteenth time this hour. It had been ages since he had seen its twisted but beautiful horizons. He missed the rivers of molten lava, he missed its one spire city, but most of all, he missed his daughter. She was probably nearing seven years old, but he wasn’t even sure anymore. It had been almost seven years since he left her, and four since his wife’s death. Antonia. He still remembered her name. It was his last words to his wife,
“She shall be named Antonia, in honour of her grandfather.” He remembered the long kiss they shared afterwards, and feeling his wife’s tears on his cheek. He could still remember how soft and fine her hands were…He felt himself tearing up himself, and he cast the thought from his mind. He would have to wait until he saw his angel. He had waited a seven years, he could wait another year or two. Sadly, his astropath intercepted a message, one that practically screamed ”HELP US”. Of course he would have to once again tell his Regiment that they were going into war once more. They were all veterans, and all of them longed to see their wives and world again. But they wouldn’t.
“Ben, relay the message again.” He spoke to his second in command, a veteran and dear friend of his. Ben stirred and groggily opened his eyes.
“Wawasdatsir?...” His breath stank like amasec, and Henri recoiled as it hit him. Unlike the General, Ben went straight to the Generals ‘Only in extreme occasion cabinet’, opened it, and proceeded to empty half of the bottles. Henri was not inclined to stop him. Different people reacted in different ways to this news such as this. Henri’s was to reminisce about what he wasn’t going to see, some would sit and mope, but the majority would get whatever alcohol they could find and drain it.
“I said, get the transmission up again.” Henri said it louder than before, and Ben slowly rose to his feet and sarcastically saluted his friend.
“Yessir, if you don’t mind me drinking more of your brilliant beverages you have procured the past years…” He stumbled towards the console in the middle of the room, then punched in a couple of numerals and fell backwards into his seat.
“(Static) Payne of Crion. We are under attack, (Static) Orks unifying. (Static) Separatist scum. (Static) Heretics. We are deserate, our PDF is incapable of defending against all these threats. Any Imperial forces in the area, we beg of you to come to our aid. Coordinates follow…”
“Crion. Agri-world, lost contact with the rest of the Imperium about 7 months ago. Guess we can’t turn down a request from another Govenor gakking his pants now can we?” Henri rested his head in his hands.
“We could pretend we never heard it…” Ben was still trying to find a way out of the engagemet, but he knew Henri was never going to turn it down.
“Want me to tell the Commissar what you said?” Henri tried hiding the urge to laugh out loud as he saw Ben’s reaction.
“Commissar? Oh no, I never said anything! DontbeperposterousIdontknowwhatyourtalkingabout.” He hurried out of the room, only to burst into laughter a few seconds later. The laughter went on for about a minute, and was indeed very contagious, as Henri felt himself slipping of his chair. He had no idea why either one of them was laughing so much, but he welcomed it. Ben stormed back into the room and clutched his side.
“It-It-it huwts!” He collapsed to the ground and rolled side to side, in agony, but still laughing. Henri sat and cried tears of joy, as it was somehow funny to watch his best friend in so much self-inflicted pain.
Commissar Kurt Van Feineish ran into the room with his bolt pistol drawn.
“Sir is everything…alright?” He raised his eyebrows at the sight of the two grown men rolling on the ground like school-children. “Sir?”
Henri nodded to Ben, who slowly reached up and replayed the message once more. The Commissars face dropped as he realised they were going back to war.
Ben looked up at Kurt, and, inbetween bouts of laughter managed to say “That ole’ Govenor gone and shat his pants, and Henri here is sending us off to smother his face with it.” He barely managed to finish the sentence before laughter once again consumed him, and surprisingly, Kurt began laughing. They both stopped to stare at the spectacle.
“Can-can he do that?” Henri gestured towards the laughing Commissar, this being the first time either of them had seen it.
“IT’S A MIRACLE OF THE EMPEROR!” Ben exclaimed and threw his hands in the air, and, once again, the contagious laughter spread through the entire ship.
Several hours later, and even more empty bottles of alcohol later, the trio became serious.
“Now, how do we tell the troops?” Ben asked, with the occasional hiccup inbetween.
“We, do not. You tell the men.” Kurt chuckled.
“What?! Why me?” Ben painckedly looked around at the other two.
“Because, you drank about three quarters of my alcohol. And I have no idea what happened to whatever I didn’t take off you…” Henri wasn’t displeased with Ben, he was just making his life harder. Good old fashion fun he thought. “Ah don’t worry, I’ll tell them. They deserve to hear it from their Commander, not some second rate thug.” He looked at Ben, who, surprisingly, didn’t take the joke badly.
“A second rate thug would never be able to hold his stomach as well as me.” He joked back.
“The Imperium would never allow a second rate thug into the Guard.” The Commissar tried his best at joking, but his lack of experience meant that he would be the target of comebacks very ofter.
“Then why are you here Commie?” Ben’s head lulled back and forth, obviously blind drunk, but that did nothing to stem the reaction from Kurt, who rose and struck Ben with his Bolt pistol.
“That is considered treason, Major. I would shoot you right now had the General asked.” He leaned in closer to the stunned and bleeding Ben. “Know your place.” He reached out and pulled the man back up, who appeared to have sobered up after the blow.
“Yes…Yes Commissar…” Ben reached up to the cut above his eye, and winced at the pain.
“Now that that’s sorted…What shall I tell the men…” Henri once again began thinking of a speech to lift the troops’ spirit.
Henri stood on a podium in the hangar bay of the Hopilite, a Endevour class light cruiser. He gazed upon the faces of the assembled troops, all were weary, all wanted to go home. He had to shatter those dreams now. He would now see the men and women he had served with the past six years with cry, curse and hate him. But, it was necessary. They would forgive him in time.
“Men, Women, all of you have served with me all the way. We have faced Xenos, Greenskins, and even the Horrors of Chaos. And we prevailed against all odds.” A cheer went up from the crowd, and several helmets were flung into the air. “We prevailed, and we should be going home to our wifes, our children, and whatever else you are into!” Another cheer went up, and even more helmets were flung into the air. “But we are not.” The noise drained from the hangar, all eyes were on Henri now. “Our lovers’ beds shall once again remain empty for another year. We have, once again been summoned to another planet. Wracked by insurrection, a Greekskin uprising, and possible chaos ” He saw the eyes around him tear up. Their faces contorted into a look of anger, sadness, and confusion. He continued. “We have been once again requested to aid this world. We are to go there, squash the rebellion, purge the Greenskins off the face of the world, and then we will leave. We will go back to our lovers, and there we shall stay, Emperor willing. But for now, we do the Emperors will.” Silence. Henri closed his one remaining eye. “I miss my family as much as any of you do. But, we cannot forsake our souls in exchange for some time with our families. Now, set course for Crion. Send word of our arrival and make sure the PDF is ready. We’re going to take out our anger on them, along with the Xenos and Chaos that taint that Emperor forsaken world.” The crowd infront of him shifted. It was a simple mission, they would arrive, kill whatever Xeno they could find, train the PDF, and they would leave. Shouldn’t take more than a month or two. Henri didn’t know how wrong he was.

So essentially, you've already got two different forces, but to keep TS off your back, you've formed them into one big ass group. As such, you are technically able to put in another randomish force. Well played Kharne, but I see through your elaborate ruse.
Thats still about 900 dudes. About a companies worth of Space Marines. Technically still a force but I'm probably over complicating things. Plus its your force and you choose what you do with it(just joking mind you).

Have at it Kharne.
Lol, I'll have what I'm bringing in like 5 minutes... brb
Actually seems about right. So maybe if i whittle down the numbers to a good 4-5 thousand it might make it a bit fair. Also makes sense because the Gorgons were just in a war, so they'd probs be undermanned.
I can just see Kharne sitting on his arse with a sheet of the alphabet on his lap, points to several letters, makes a word, says 'good enuf' and scribbles down 'Squad name 2, Second company'.

Out of curiosity, where does that leave Falkon, WK?
Also, Vanden and Kharne, I look forward to seeing more of your new factions. And, completely unrelated, what is their respective policies on, say, I don't know, certain creatures who may be sellswords, and are negotiable with their prices?

My guard are ok with it since the Sharks are.
And I'll probably be bringing in Chaos, so they might sacrifice your Kroot
I'd like to see them try to catch the Kroot. In fact, we can recreate Predator. We stick Ta'lok in the jungle with a bunch of your cultists, and watch as their numbers dwindle. Except Ta'lok won't have to blow himself up, seeing as how he's smart enough to see a trap, and then not head to the same spot from a different direction, still knowing that it is a trap.

He dreamed of death. He dreamed of a perfect universe. He dreamed of his legions marching through civilisations. It was the same dream. The perfect universe was one devoid of life. Inevitability was perfection, and death was inevitable. It gnawed on his mind for aeons, filling him with a new hate for all things living. Then it happened. A break in his dream. A hand reached out for him. He took it, and was pulled from his sleep.
Canarak awoke. He opened his lidless eyes, and cast his eyes around the catacomb he was in. Several other similar sarcophagi were positioned around him, the majority of them, still sealed. The Ankh on the mantle of most of were dim, including on the more extravagant one. The Cryptek stood by Canarak.

There was a malfunction, and the majority of the royal court did not survive.” Canarak turned to see the Cryptek he decapitated reassembling itself. “I am Jarvis, one of few surviving Cryptek of our once great dynasty, and I would appreciate if you did not try to kill me.”
“Jar-vis? Phae-ron...?” Canarak racked his memory banks, and found them both.

The rest cannot be awoken, the Great Sleep was long, and the revival tubes in their sarcophagi have been damaged, including the one paired with Phaeron Autal’ka.” The Crypteks voice was heavy, perhaps even sad. Weak. They were all weak.
“Fate has decreed that only the strong survive. The fact that we live and they do not reinforces that claim. Assemble the War Council. We shall speak.” Canarak felt his memory flow back into him with speed. He was almost back to normal.
Four Praetorians stood guard in the war room for aeons whilst their brethren slept. Each one would uphold its previous Phaerons last request, being to make sure the revival of the legion went well. Each lord arrived with his own retinue of Lychguard. They would speak of what they would do in the near future, and, more importantly, who the new Phaeron would be. Canarak entered the room to be greeted with the rest of his brethren sitting at the circular table in the centre of the room.
“Greetings Canarak, it seems the Sleep was gentle on you, if only I could say the same for the rest of the Court…”Gikleor spoke out and rose to greet Canarak.
“They were weak, they did not deserve a second chance.” Canarak spat at Gikleor, and moved past him.
“Are you alright? Perhaps I was wrong about the effects of the Sleep on you…” Gikleor was taken aback by his fellow lords’ outburst, but moved and re-joined the rest at the table. Vazk’il nodded at Canarak and rose.
“We have much to discuss, the losses of our once great legion number in the 50%. We will have to do much to begin assembly and other tasks, but one stands out far more. Who shall arise to be new Phaeron?” He knew the answer. Each lord wanted it, and, more than likely, only one lord would walk out of the room. The question made each lord in turn grasp their weapons tighter. All except Canarak, who kept his Warscythe firmly planted on the ground at all times.
“We all know how this will turn out Vazk’il. We fight to the death, the winner takes all.” Telas exclaimed and rose. The other two lords rose and held out their weapons. Funny, Canarak thought. They’re all the same height.
“If we can be civil, there will be no need for pointless slaughter…” Gikleor was always the more diplomatic of the Court. Weak.
“No.” Canarak swung his Scythe around the table. “There will always be need for pointless slaughter.” He spoke as three heads fell onto the table. The Lychguard stood were they had been the entire time, almost shocked at what happened. They showed pointless emotion. Weak. “Kill them.” Canarak spoke to his own Lychguard, who he had spoken to before the meeting. Each one saw the true purpose eventually. Each one was reprogrammed with only one true thought. Death. His Lychguard tore into the others, each one killing with increased speed and the only true emotions. Hate. Anger. Rage. The fight was short, as the weak Lychguard were not prepared for such actions so quickly. As the last Lychguard fell, Canarak turned to face his nearest minion.
“Fetch me the Crypteks. I have a new job for them.”
Canarak stood with his arms extended sidewards.
Phase One.
Each shoulder had additional pieces of armour plating, his chest had been reinforced, his arms strengthened. All the better to murder.
Phase Two.
A construct Canarak didn’t care to look at lifted his off the ground. With precise cuts, it severed his legs from his body. He felt nothing. Whilst dangling off the machine, he lifted his new arm. It was stronger than the previous one. He looked over his arm, it was about two times thicker than the previous one, able to shrug off the hardest blow. Then his gaze fell to his chest. Reinforced three times over, nothing short of the most determined attacker could pierce it. He was interrupted by new cables attaching to his torso. He looked down and saw something that would’ve made him smile. The blood red suspensor platform gleamed in the artificial light. He felt it join with him. And he tested it. He moved thrummed on the spot. He heard the soft vibrations it was causing. He would be a monster on the battlefield. He was faster now than he ever was.
“Let me go.” He spoke to nobody in particular, but the Cryptek responded. The construct holding Canarak let go and went back to whatever menial tasks the Cryptek assigned. Canarak floated on the spot, flexing his hands. He called Jarvis to him.
“Are the rest of the tasks completed?” He turned his head to face Jarvis, unknowingly shifting the rest of his body.
“Yes Lord, your Lychguard have been successfully interred. We are currently rehabilitating the rest of the legion, as you ordered. As is the other project.” Jarvis bowed his head. “The mechanics will soon align to your thoughts, just give it some time.” Jarvis turned, but was stopped by Canaraks heavy hand.
“I prefer the word ‘Perfection’. You are perfecting our Legion.”
“Yes Phaeron.” He let go of the Cryptek and began to make his way to the rest of his new War Council.
Hurak, Visgon, Xerxes and Khronos waited in the War Room, along with three other Destroyers. The three sported an assortment of Weapons, each one different from the other. The other four once-Lychguard held a combination of weapons. Visgon held her twin voidblades. She was happy. The Sleep had deprived her of what she cherished most, killing. On awakening, she ordered a scan of the stars, to indicate how long they had been asleep. The result both surprised her, and pleased her. Tens of millions of years, new civilisations had sprung up in the ashes of the old era. All the better. They would kill them nevertheless. Khronos had his hyperphase sword sheathed at his side, and was looking over his new gauntlet. He would bathe the living in fire, and revel in their ashes. He had already scanned the nearby sector, and found the point of most commotion. A small world whose name had been long forgotten. New races fought over it, each seeking wealth, and other pointless reasons to fight each other. He recognised the signatures of Eldar there. Good. He had a score to settle. Xerxes rested on his staff, intent on taking a chrono-sleep to regain some lost memory. Hurak carved sigils onto the bare parts of his new body with his sword, each one preaching the purity of Death. Canarak looked over his four Lieutenants. They would each command a cult. He commanded them to kill something, they would decide how they killed it. Simple. Effective. His gaze fell upon the three cloaked figures, and he made his way towards them. All traces of their former selves had been erased from their bodies, their minds wiped, and inhibitor chips inserted into their skulls. His lifted the hood over the first one, who held its sword idly at its side.
“You are my Hand. You shall be the extension of my will.”
He lifted the hood off the second one, who held its staff in two hands.
“You shall be my Eyes. You shall find me targets so that unleash my Legions.”
He lifted the hood off the third figure, who also held its staff in two hands.
“And you, shall be my Envoy. Go to the planet. Broadcast my arrival. I wish the living to know that Death is coming.”
And so, the three previous lords of the Autal’ka dynasty were reborn again as slaves to the lord of the new Canarak Dynasty.

I'm considering leaving them in, pulling a Kharne, and roll for Tau reinforcements (Gak, maybe even IW).
Thankfully it's pretty close to the end of the semester, so I should have more time for writing in the next few weeks. Do any of my fellow Imperial players want some Knight support? I need something to write about on their end (No Kharne, I will not help you kill my Eldar)

I'm fine for now, just trying to FETHING REMOVE THIS BLOODY WARBOSS FROM MY REGION!

Might need your help at Hive Torcan actually (Your Eldar are secondary)

Using my limited knowledge of his Sharks, I think he'd kinda start frothing and begin slaughtering wildlife.

Ok, yea...I might need a bit of help, damned greenskin is too slippery for Iodius' hands to fething murder him...So maybe a stomping Knight might just be able to squash him...

I mean, I kind of have to Kharne. You're interfering with mine and Robin's plan.

One will be fine. I don't want to overkill. I'm mobilising my entire force for my next attack, so I don't want to fracture reality by throwing more dakka at the orks.

Ohhhh, and WK, if you refrain from killing Imperials, then my Marines would be up to an Alliance. Kharne won't be happy, but even the most bloodthirsty of savages listen to logic(sometimes).

Remember Voidspider? Never knew what hit her. Except at the end.
But I got other things to take care of, anyway. And trying to hunt other players main character is pointless. Maybe I should go straight for the daughter

Good.
You know, I think one day, Iodius is gonna get pissed and plant his foot in the firm rear of a cultist general. It would be fun, but not for the cultist, because I can't imagine how he'd take a gak afterwards.
Turns out you can invert the way Grav Chutes works, and have them fling people upwards, into say, a Valkyrie or something, interesting stuff and pretty cool way to extract people
