Thanks, they are a good table top paint job. Finished the Las cannons last night and hopefully I'll do some basing tonight. I also need to paint the 'Bleeding heart' on the white tail sections... Doh!
Good paint job on those silly things. The more I see them popping up here and there, the more I feel like buying one and attacking it with a hacksaw and plasticard.
Meph wrote: Good paint job on those silly things. The more I see them popping up here and there, the more I feel like buying one and attacking it with a hacksaw and plasticard.
Honestly.. that's very you! I'm not that creative. I'll leave that to you genius's .
Actually I have another Stormtalon NIB, Not sure I'll ever use three ( 4 if you count the Raptors one already painted. ) I'm quessing I'll hang on it in case I ever start another SM army.
So we play most of our games at out local FLGs. The terrain is pretty beat up and some what a mix of stuff and alot of different terrain systems. So this weekend I got some foam board and fired up the juet fueled Glue gun and went to work.
Made 4 large LOS blocking buildings and A pair of damaged Highway overpasses. I made the buildings from a template so I could easily reproduce the panels quickly. A requirement was also to make the interiors large enough to accomidate a dread or crisis suit without forcing the model or placing a counter to mark it's location. I also made the height and width of the windows large enough to make it LOS obvious. After some texturing ( mostly to prevent the foam from being eaten by the spray paint) I primed Black and shaded with Grey and a rust colored primer. Did some light Grey dry brushing and done. Camera pics for now.
Here is a size comparrison with my Eldar Warithknight,
I'll be doing some more smaller structures as well. I'll post some shots later. Maybe in an actual game the next time we play
I hope to do soome smaller structures. Maybe so downed road sections for completeness.
Gitsplitta wrote: Very nice. I still have a bunch of the old terrain that you gave me and it does yoeman's duty here at the Gitsplitta residence.
My FLGs has the remaining peices of that dated collection as well.
Ironicly Brent has the cardboard city peices from college in his garage. I asked him to take some pic's so we can feel old ( older )
The terrain looks great, and I like how you've made the bypass sections,
plus how you took into account things like line of sight and model placement,
so the terrain is functionally and not just pretty .
Are you planning on making or adding any small piles of rubble or debris, to place around the buildings and bypass?
I was going for a more urban look so the potential is there for all sorts of additions. I didn’t want to add a lot to the bases of the building as we play mostly on a battle board ( flocked green). Problem with this is that there are a few sections that would hold the buildings without tipping ( remember these are foam board) so adding more to the overall foot print isn’t in the plan. If however the pieces are just too unstable ( they are light weight ) I might base them and add some decoration.
I Still like a fairly busy game table. So the next items will be some smaller buildings, some ground level road sections ( collapsed sections of the raised road) and some simple pipeline pieces. When I get my own board/ table section built I can model the terrain to match my board. These are just for the general gaming at my FLGs.
I will bring these for my next game and take some pic's. Hopefully next week.
Looks great ! The damaged highway is a nice touch ! Congrats
Thanks , but remember these are only foamboard. Most of the hard work was actually cutting the stuff out. So I thought i didn't get much done for a weekend. Now that I have my STC template . I'll use it do more simular themed stuff. At least we'll have some terrain in the store that matches ( for as long as they last )
It's great to have finally tracked down the persons log who is working on these Lamenters. I see shots of your models here and there when I search the Chapter, or posted on other Blogs.
It's a great project, and I am impressed with your output. I'm slowly chugging away at a Lamenter's army myself but I have no where near the output you do, and I'm taking a different approach to the chapter.
Very cool work, I am inspired to put my nose to the grind stone and start getting some more models out there!
Azazelx wrote: Yeah, I like that overpass a lot as well. Makes me think of trying something like a ramp and partial overpass once my SWM boards arrive.
Thanks gentlemen! Can't see it from the pictures but on one of the overpass sections is a hanging road section. I used some wire to make it look like rebar ( thus help hold the section in place ) I'm planning to adda few more pieces this weekend.

Thanks for the praise.. They are only table top quality but with the Lamenter theme they stand out well enough.. It's good to have a few more Lamenter players out there. I love to see what your doing so post a link here. As for quanity.. these have taken years.. and I have several other armies I play as well , so I hop back and forth.
IceAngel wrote: Happy birthday solar! I hope your 81st was as great as your 80th. Your crate of prune juice is on the way!
Ouch!.. Now get to work so you can pay mine and Git's social security checks!
On the terrain front.. I got 2 smaller buildings finished and 3 new road sections, I also made some (4) corner peices the resemble a park garden. I got some fake folige that I'm going to try and add. Basic pics later when I return from my Bday meal!
Ramo's... At my age we don't get presents.. we buy our own.
Here is an Terrain update. The Road sections need the stripes. Most Need yhe Grey Drybrushing
Solar_lion wrote: Thanks, garnering attention from a great terrain builder is a honor.
Too kind, but thanks!
New additions look good, too, now I'll be waiting for the action shots!
More "elaborated" and heavily detailed terrain pieces might look good, but are slower to do and definitively not as "usable" in an actual game (not to speak about how easily the get damaged both in use and, god forbid, transportation!), so quicker building of longer lasting pieces in sometimes the way to go, and, when matched with some forethinking and good painting, you have shown great results can be gained.
This terrain is for the my Flgs. It's Foamboard and hot glue with spackle for texture to cover the ' Foam' sections so the spray paint doesn't disolve it. All in it probably cost me less than 50 bucks. it will start to show 'chipping' right away but it is 100X better than the crappy stuff we currently play with.
I be bringing it with me when I can get the others in my group to stop working so hard and set a date to play. I'll be the first to game with it for sure!
Next up I'm going to add some Flora to the 2x2 section of the park pieces. IF that goes well I'll try my luck at doing some forest peices.
In the meantime I've primed and basecoated the bikes, some foot slogging special weapons marines and my 2 in progress GMS trades. I'm also trying to finish up the Imperial Bastion. It will be painted like the terrain peices but with a bit more bronze added to make it standout.
I have some priming to do on some Eldar pieces while I got my AB out.
Have you considered a final coat of polyurethane finish for better protecting those builds?
(Both Rust-Oleum and Krylon, to name two popular brands, seem to carry them in gloss and matt aerosol cans, and it would add an extra shielding layer against the chipping and wearing from game-use)
San76 wrote: Happy birthday mate! Terrain looks great, your lamenters should really pop on those dark colours
Thanks San.. Yeah .. My White and Turquoise Eldar as well!
Results from my Floral experiments. Added to the 4 separate Park pieces I’m donating to my Flgs. I think they turned out good. I’ll try some more exotic plastic plants in the future, such as stuff found in pet store for aquariums. They have a much wider range of colors ( orange, purple ect ) that might look more off world.
Since these are 4 separate pieces they have the advantage of use them separately or together in different configurations.
Close up…
Suggestion to improve are always welcome. I could have added more detail like dirt around the base , but decided not to put more into it as these will get roughed up quickly by the young and careless hands at our Flgs.
Finished the stripes on the last 3 road section . Added another coat of spray varnish. Camera phone shot so there is a wee bit of glare. They are not this shiny. Now just gotta set up a big game to use them with.
Thanks for commenting.. I was beginning to think Dakka was not working.
Yeah.. new can of paint.. I'll distance shoot some black spray paint on them.
I'm going to try to do some 'forest' sections. I have a lot of artificial plant's ( very cheap ) Maybe in rows so they can form outlines thus are easier to use with actual models. Hedgerows? hummm.
Different terrain. More stuff for the store. I'm not gonna add anymore detail to the stuff I already did. I just wanted to improve the current stuff we play on and add some common theme.
Color wise this gave me a good chance to practice and experiment for when I paint my table/boards
More to come terrain wise but i'll be taking a break to work on my GMS's and MW challenge.
Finally got a game tonight. So I'll be finally dropping off all 15 pieces of terrain I built. Brought the camera so hopefully i'll get some good pictures.
Looks like I'll be playing against a SW air force. 2 Stormwolfs and 2 Stormfangs. Wow 4 AV 12 vehicles. This the new meta? I'll try to put up a battle report of me being flyer frozen to death.
Urgh, all that yellow makes me nauseous... it looks good, but when I try to paint yellow it goes horribly, horribly wrong. Good on you for the consistency. I also like that the yellow is a bit darker as opposed to imperial fists McDonalds yellow.
Aeroroot wrote: Urgh, all that yellow makes me nauseous... it looks good, but when I try to paint yellow it goes horribly, horribly wrong. Good on you for the consistency. I also like that the yellow is a bit darker as opposed to imperial fists McDonalds yellow.
Thanks Aeroroot....I seem to better at getting a Lamenter yellow after much trial and error. My lastest stuff is more on the 'brown/red' side as compared to the original stuff I've done. ( Storm Ravens). When I put them next to the latest Stormtalons you can see a real difference.
I think the trick is the primer color and the shade color. White Primer makes it too bright. I use a white primer then a light Rust; followed by my base Yellow. This really makes the yellow more of a red or mustard look. I've seen lot of other techniques that work really well.. Check out Gitsplitter's tranquality marines or SAN76 Imperial fist. Both have made yellow work.
I like white undercoat for my Fools, because it saves me bunches of time and gives me the brightest possible look I can get-which is the point, but not for everyone. I like to make McDonalds yellow look dingy and dull!
Yellow on everything else is about layering thin, thin layers several times with drying time in between. If it doesn't look good, then chill out, wait for it to dry, and do it again. Start with an ochre which I think is a yellowy brown. Averland Sunset is actually a pretty strong pigment as far as yellows go. Takes 2 to 3 thin coats for a good basecoat.
No plans to use my Lamenters as Space wolfs. I'll wait for the new BA codex.. the SW have such unique figures and I'll leave it to better converters to try this. Besides I'm not going to invest in specific codex flyers ( No DA ones either )
As for my yellow formula I use Vallejo light rust followed by Golden yellow.
I had a great game last night against Yellowbeard. My Necrons vs. Spacewolfs. 1650 pt. Played Maelstrom mission with the tactical objectives.
Overwhelming victory 16vps to 2vps. I basically had 2 turns of capturing objectives uncontested. Due to the ability of my flyers to drop off troops easily at one turn time I held all 6 objectives.
When the wolves got stuck in they were tough. A single squad with characters generated a massive number of attacks. 50+ wiped out all my Deathmarks with Cryptek. Unfortunately my Dlord and wraiths we close enough to avenge them.
Took a few pictures ( using the new terrain ) at the end of the game. ( sorry no Battle report )
I still like the SW airforce list, but I think one would have to play them more agressive and look to alpha striking. The are tough to bring down being AV12 so more risk with them is expected.
Another Game against YB where I faced the SW again. This time the VP's were a bit closer 11vp to 5vp. with me getting the win again. I think it would have been closer if had the dice rolling being so good for me and so bad for YB. Night and day luck.
I took som pic's that I'll get posted this weekend. Not a battle report but you'll be able to see us playing on the new terrain.
On a cool note.. our warlords slugged it out for over 5 turns till finally on the last turn ( turn 7 ) I finally managed to slay his Wolf lord. Epic 40K.
Sadly no pics.. I was ill and left it him to play a 3 way game against a balanced Ork Army and a new Grey Knight Army.
By turn 2 the GK's had wiped out the Ork army and then did the same to the SW army. Truely there is no balance anymore.
SO.. the local group was putting on a 5 vs.5 game ( turned out to be 4 vs 4) No Apoc. units but LoW were allowed.
Imperial vs Non Imperials. Ended up facing 9 Demons/Demon Princes all but 2 wern't flyers. 2 Giant Nids. Tons of Chao's Marines. 4 Necon barges, 2 command barges and 4 flyers. 2 Helldrakes.
Worst yet a Trancendant Ctan. Least to say we were pretty much wiped out by the end of turn 2. Our only LoW, an Imperial Knight was wiped out by the Ctan in one shot. Just one of the Ctan attacks are 6d6 S8 AP1. When the knight blew it created a apoc sized blast. Anything it flys over takes a D hit and it move 18 in. not hampered by terrain. Add a hellstorm D template for it's 2nd attack. ( the Apoc one ) and 1/2 of our army went away. Taking it out is almost impossible.. T9 S9 W6 and 8 attack in close combat. Yikes.
Big Game pictures. Could not Possibly explain what went on for the 2 hour per turn battle. Nice thing.. 90% of all this Terrain used in the game was all made by me. Some made 15 years ago. You can see the new stuff as well.
Our center defensive position. Note... we had 4 Vengeance batteries that proved useless against the tide.
Our right side
Our enemies center. Note the Necron gun Platform on the highway overpass.
Our far left flank. Totally exposed as we didn’t have enough bodies to cover that flank.
This is what it looked like after turn one! Note Ctan in frount of my Land Raider.
Why did you show up to an apocalypse game without your own heavy hitters? Where's the titan or squadron of knights? I feel like you should own something that only sees the battlefield in an apocalypse game. I didn't even see a baneblade or similar super heavy.
Thanks, I like a lot of terrain and at least most of it made the board consistant.
Couldn't bring titans. LoW units were acceptable but the only one available to SM was the Tunderhawk. I don't have one. Don't think it would have mattered. What we really needed was 2000 pts of Grey Knights.
Nothing Imperial is capable of taking on that Ctan the way it was purchased. A badly thought out and unbalanced unit.
On to normal gaming. Me and YB are going SW vs. SM tonight at 1650pt. After learning the Necrons have no trouble taking out the SW, I decided out with the cheese and man up!
The transcendent ctan is the single unit we have banned for apoc games. It is straight up broken, and no fun to play against, even with super heavies and titans it takes several dedicated turns to kill it.
I talked to the player who set up this game and if another gets done in the future they will probably ban it as well.
Last nights game went well. Instead of me playing against YB, we had two of the regular guys wanting to get in our game . So we rolled off and YB and I were teamed up against a GK player and a Crimson fist DP list. We won 10 to 5. thou it worked in our favor that the majority of the GK terminator force didn't show up till the last turn. Without them we held our own. Otherwise I'm pretty sure we would have lost. Cleansing flame is powerful. By no means determined, but to those whom say the GK got nerfed. In the games weve seen or played against them they wiped out close to double their points.
Back to painting.. Almost finished with my GMS trades. 6 more bikes. Bunch of Sternguard bits in the work as well. I also got some new Necron and Ork models on the way adding to my other armies.
Thanks BJ. Yellow always looks bright next to all the dark colored terrain and other figures. My earlier stuff was much brighter. My later work have more of a brown rust yellow.
Been a busy summer. Lots to do before winter. So what about progress.. I've managed to get enough bikes to do 2 nine man squads with an Attack bikes. Also manage to get 2 bike of all the special weapons except for the flamer. I still have 3 more bikes slated for some sarges with different load outs. This should end the bike purchases forever! Now to start priming and finishing the ones I have.
Next didn't have enough time to do some painting but got time bit by bit to start assembling some more marines. I have lots of bits, most I have no idea of what I'll do with them. So I channeled Graven and built a 4 man Honor Guard for my not yet built Chapter Master. 2 of them using BA Sang guard torso's, Sternguard legs, Winged Ravenguard Helmets, and Grey Knight Force Halberds ( counts as relic weapons ). Banner bearer made the same way as well without the Halberd . A Champion with 2 handed GK sword and shield made from a Dreadknight plate. While at it I assembled a 5 man Vanguard squad consisting of 2 pairs of LC, 2 PS 1 with Plasma Pistol the other with Grav pistol and a sarge with PS and Plasma pistol. Most likely put them with JP's
Both the Honor guard will need to be painted differently than the normal Lamenter Yellow. Want to stay away from an all metallic look. The Vanguard will be the Normal yellow but with white helmet face masks like my sternguard...
Looking to get these painted before the 18th as Git and I have a game day session planned. Lamenters vs. Mantis Warriors.
Plan.. This winter since we are not participating in the Team Tourney this year at Adepticon, thou stll planning on attending; thus freeing up all the time I'd be making a display, is to finish all the half done and odds and end for the Lamenters, Eldar and Necrons, So as to start next years Chaos Marines Project. Oh and get more games In!
I feel good about taking a break for a year (from the TT)... it's such a demanding project and you've been carrying the majority of the load (display) since we began. I look forward to a more social experience with a lot of good gaming around the corners!
Though disappointed in no TT, I definitely agree with Gits. You've been absolutely nuts with all the work you do on the displays each year, and its great that you can now take this time to wrap some other stuff up for your own armies!
Suppose it works well for me too, as I might actually get some paint on my own stuff before AC 2016!! (haaaaaa riiiight )
Over that weekend, we definitely need to figure out a mini-event for the Wardens. Not so much a MOAB, but a mini battle between us all
Great idea Ramos. I actually really liked the little one-on-one battles we did for a warm-up last year on Friday. More fun hanging out/gaming with each other... less stress. I'm all for it!
whalemusic360 wrote: Are you planning on doing the single event, or just hanging out for the weekend?
The 40K championship? No. probably just hanging out looking to play some friendly games.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Some pics of the latest stuff I’ve been fiddling with…all Camera phone shots
Honor guard build and base coated. Here I used all the most odd and flamboyant bit I had.
Sternguard legs, BA Honor guard torsos and Shoulders, Ravenwing Helms, Grey Knight arms and weapons. FW Red Scorpions Banner.
While I was using the most heraldic of parts I built 5 Vanguard. 2 LC pairs, I LC and Plasma pistol, PF with grav pistol, and the Sarge with PS and PP.
Last two other quick builds.. Some Whirlwind tops for any of my rhino chassis.
And.. 2 of 4 vengeance batteries ( 2 cannons & 2 Gattling cannons )
I’ve started working on the bronze on the Left one.
Lastly I have a long time friend whom had a tragedy a long time ago with his son and stopped collecting 40k. He hasn’t done anything with the hobby for over 14 years. So I decided to paint him some Grey Knights as his ‘Grim Reaper’ Chapter.
Captain with 10 terminators. Rhino with both AC and Las plas Razorback options, 2 10 man strike squads ( pic only shows 5 so far, the other 15 are still in need of their metallic’s) I will do a 5 man Purgation squad, Libby and finish off with a Stormraven.
More pictures ( sorry camera shots ) in my Gallery; Grim Reapers/GK’s
Cool stuff Solar. I'm still not sure if I'll make it to Adepticon but hanging out with you guys and battling was certainly my favorite part. That and going to that restaurant again! It was so good I forgot the name. Yellowbeard will remember.
No, I don't think you came with us Ramos, but it was a fast food chain place that had hot dogs and burgers. There were like sixty people working there, a double drive through, four of five different lines you could enter to order your food. We got burgers, fries, and shakes and it was awesome. It was maybe 10 minutes from the hotel.
Let us know if you and or Steve can make it a day and we'll plan on doing some internal Wardens gaming. This time with a bit more decent pts or again 2vs2.
Meph wrote: Cool stuff you've got laying on the table, mate. As usual.
Thanks! I seem to have just as much semi-finished stuff as I do finished. Hopefully I'll get to some of it this winter.
Last night I got about an hour to add some bronze to 5 strike squad. 10 more to go then detail stuff.

I don't remember this as well. Could be due to age thou. Adepticon is in a new venue this year so we'll have to scope out new places to eat.
I'm all about gaming with and against you guys so if you can make it that would be sweet!
On the purchase front... I think I got 2 SW flyers in route as part of a special deal. Will only know when I open up my order. Since I'm never gonna play SW, I'll be assembling and painting them up for Yellowbeard ( a old time SW player). Should be a fun kit to build and Paint ( primer, then grey - how hard could it be?). Most likely I'll do the transport versions only. Pic if it happens.
Finished the 15 marines for filling out the Strike squads. Camera shot.
Next week’s agenda.. assemble the Purgation squad, libby and paint. I'll probably use the Libby from the DV set for a Librarian for this army. I also need to finish the detail on the Rhino/ RB.
What else do I need to make this sucessfully playable?
If what you've told me is true... you need more mobility for games using the cards. Need more mobility anyway. One of the best tactics for dealing with GKs is staying outside of 24". I realize card missions make this more difficult... but if you were more mobile you could force your opponents to deal with your firepower rather than having them dance around you. Might be a simple as adding a single drop pod.
Really good Idea.. I do have a Drop Pod NIB. Had no plans for it. .. welcome back!.. Grim Reaper Drop pod. I should be able to get this done before I go at the End of the the month.
Really looking forward to our games SL. Might try and see if I can't get myself back to the painting desk so I can move the Centurions along a little bit before our meeting.
Nice to see at least one of us plowing away at their back-log!
For mobility I am a fan of two minimum squad sized interceptors who jump pack to objectives or 30" gate to deny others. Oh and slap a teleporter onto the NDK, you won't regret it!
I 'll have to get some of those! Both the NDK and Interceptors I believe are a 1 time 'shunt' correct? Do they work as normal JP as well? ( don't have the codex in front of me )

New Lamenter projects. Camera doesn't translate yellow very well . They are much more Yellow than the pic's indicate.
New turrets for kitting out Rhino’s … Base colors applied
Six more normal bikers to fill in the squads. Bikers are removeable for ease of painting.
Base color Stern & Honor guard models.
Got some magnets today so I’ll be able to work on the 2 additional Land raiders. I have a redeemer and a crusader that I want to be able to switch out to normal LR’s when needed. Also needed for my Eldar Wraithknights and Wraithlords weapon loadouts.
Just working on all the black that needs to be filled in on the bikes.. Then a nice sepia wash. Getting my 1850 list together for my day of gaming with Gits.
Odd not working day and night on a display for Adepticon.
I'm considering on my WW turrets doing the covers in white; Hummmm. checkers!
Definitely agree with ya on that. Very weird not working on armies for WM and myself. Maybe Ill actually have some of my own finished minis along with me this year.
Yellows are looking good, if a bit orange in the later pics (prolly the camera/my monitor doing that). Though I dont think I would do the entire cover of the WWs white and checkered. Might be too much. Maybe a thick band of checkers going around it??
Ramos Asura wrote: Definitely agree with ya on that. Very weird not working on armies for WM and myself. Maybe Ill actually have some of my own finished minis along with me this year.
True,, if your going to at least attend you'll need to bring an army so at least what's left of the Wardens can get some game time in . Do come up with something.

Thanks, they look so much better than the camera phone indicates,, haven't had the time to set up the good camera and shoot controllable shots. My work room is a mess with multiple armies and projects. My lighting also sucks in general . The forescent lighting doesn't help and I get much better shots during the daytime when the light is beaming thru the window. I really need more light now that he sun is going into winter. Maybe I should invest in some track lighting?
You guys should send me a pic of your set up. I love re-application.
Solar_lion wrote: You guys should send me a pic of your set up. I love re-application.
Well... This is from 2009, when I first picked up painting again. In the mean time the desk chair has changed, the telly has been swapped for a big LED, and the amounts of paints and materials have exploded. And I think the biggest, most structural upgrade my painting laboratory has received was an airbursh holder screwed on the window sill next to the terrace door on the left of the computer. Oh, and two new airbrushes...
Well, the need was born from professional use. Graphic- and 3D Design is just handicapped ballet on one screen, but the games that support 2 screens were thoroughly enjoyed as well. Supreme Commander... ah, supreme commander...
Well Star Trek online has to be the only MMO I've every laid my hands on that I still play occasionlaly after having reached level cap. (KOTR was great but I couldn't be bothered with the endgame) Zipping around in my Trek Escort cruiser is just so much fun. Didn't know it supported dual monitors though. Will test that out this weekend! Yay!
wow.. that's a lot of white walls and furniture.. brave.
What about your photo set up?
Big project at work this weekend, so I don't expect much progress. Did manage to start assembling the Grim Reaper Land Raider ( Grey Knights). I've been holding on to some Chapterhouse door and ramp for years. Glad I finally decided to do this project. They look great and fit really well.
I 'm putting the TL Las-cannons on the front hatches instead of the back. I never understood why they would disembark in front of their weapon systems. Do folks consider this Modelling for advantage?
Solar_lion wrote: You guys should send me a pic of your set up. I love re-application.
Behold the horrors! Now In Panorama-vision!
Really got to get to neatening up the desk... but eh... In time.
Heres my photosetup: Really nothing special. Just a black cloth over the computer monitor, and a desklamp providing indirect light (very important so you dont over-illuminate the mini).
Solar_lion wrote: wow.. that's a lot of white walls and furniture.. brave. What about your photo set up?
Well, make no mistake, I do not use the airbrush indoors. on the left of that window is the door to the terrace, with a power outlet right next to it. I open the door and spray into the great wild yonder.
And here's my photo setup, also something quickly setup and taken down. I prefer to have the apartment not filled with clutter so I've gotten pretty adept at making that chaos disappear in no time.
Sounds like I need to set up a permanent light box.
On the painting side I’m almost done with a Grim Reaper (Grey Knights) Land Raider. Need to so all the details then I’ll get a pic. I'll then finish the Purgation squad and Start assembling a StormRaven. This is such an easier paint scheme than My Lamenters Yellow.
Solar_lion wrote: I 'll have to get some of those! Both the NDK and Interceptors I believe are a 1 time 'shunt' correct? Do they work as normal JP as well? ( don't have the codex in front of me )
Yep, changes the type to include Jump at the front, so yes a Jump MC for the NDK, quite a nasty surprise if you ask me.
Yellows are looking top notch, I'm trying out yellow for gits's Mantis Maker competition and your yellow is my inspiration
Picked up another RB for the second Strike squad. Figure that they'll need to be mobil where as the Purgation squad generally won't and the interceptor can shunt. This leaves the NDK, and the Interceptor squad as my last purchaces.
I have till the 29th to finish. Luckly the paint theme is so much quicker than the Lamenters.
I'll be travelling to Gits' on Saturday for a fun Filled day of 40K. We should be able to get at least 2 maybe 3 games in. Might be a battle report if Git tables me ! However the plan is to get him up to speed and feel for the 7th ed changes.
I got a supply drop of Ork stuff ( like I'll get to that soon!) 3 Kannons, 6 Meganobs, a Dethrolla for my unassembled Battlewagon, a Gorkanaught and a Morkanaught! and 3 more SM bikes. I also got 2 stormwolf flyers Free ( as part of a promotion - spend this amount and get free stuff ). Was a pain to put together. The second one should go together a bit easier. I'll need to fillsome gaps on them before I prime. I'll paint them their base colors and then I'll be selling then to Yellowbeard!.
When all is said and done ( Unless I should I pass from this world first ) I should be able to field Space marines ( Lamenters ) Necons, Eldar, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, Grey Knights, Nids, IG and Tau. All about 2500 pts except the SM's which are already double that!
No. It's BAD ( built as designed ), It's a normal SR ( not the GK version ) so I'll need to embellish it a bit to make it GK'ish . I might leave the side doors off and get a FW or some CH ones to tie it in.
Meph wrote: And may the best man win! No, scrap that...
May the most fun be had by all!
Always.. we go way back so even if he stomps me I'll have fun! were two guys that play for fun and have no ego when we play. However, trash talking the others dice rolling is gonna happen. May the best Dice win!
I'll be working on finishing up the GK's first. Like I mentioned earlier I have 1 RB, Storm Raven, 1 Interceptor squad and 1 more NDK to finish. Then done. This actually will be the only army I will be officially be done with. My lamenters will continuously be expanding as I like to have all the choices to play. The games this weekend have shown that I need to make some figures with the most likely load out. Namely the Command squad bikes I like to run with Kahn.
Necons, On hold.. I have 6 bikes, a Ghost arc, Destructor cannon ? 2 more wraiths, 5 lynchguard, and a stalker to finish. I'll need to get some more Crypteks. But I'll wait for the new codex to see how well they get nerf'd.
Eldar, 1/2 painted 2nd Wraithknight, 1/2 painted Crimson hunter, 10 wraithguard, 3 War walkers, 3 gun platforms, a wave serpent and 6 more Dire Avengers to do. I'll also be repairing WB Wraithknight , Just doing a better job of Magnetizing the weapons load out
Next on the build list will be Chaos Marines, I'll need to get some purchases for these. I'm going to do Chaos’s divided, but leaning heavily on A Thousand Sons theme. However I'll be working on uniques leaders. I want a Chao's lord on a Juggernaught (gonna modify the WFB lord figure for that one) , and a Sorcerer on a unique disk for my HQ's.
Followed by Orks, I have almost everything one could want. 2 Gork/morknaughts. 2 planes, loads of boys of all types, 2 trucks, BW w deff rolla. 6 mega Nobs 8 bikes 6 Kans Meg dread. The question I have is what theme to paint them in.
Nids, for which I have most of the models I need. I still need some of the bigger creatures
Lastly IG and Tau, Which I have a few select models. For IG I like the look of the new FW solara Aux. troopers. I may wait till the whole line come out before getting more. Might do it with a 30K look.
Ok.. should be done .. Grim Reapers ( Grey Knight Army)
This Army was fun to paint. I mixed black and gunmetal to produce a darker looking armor. Using Bronze for the metals with Greens and reds for spot color.
Libby.. I’ll need to get e better pic. Somehow the resolution is messed up.
Interceptors
Purgation squad
Full Army . Standing at 2131 pts with no extra )( Missing the Las Plas turret on the Rhino/RB) ... Oh and I forgot the LAND RAIDER.. Dohhhh! I'll added it to the next ' Full' army shot!
Next up.. Clean my Shop.. I'm going to build a Light box and want it permanently set up so I need to find some space. I'll get some better pics when complete. Hopefully my friend will find this as fun to play as it was to paint.
Cool stuff solar. I think i like the dark gray knight look better then the shiny silver look most people use. Great idea on the light box too. It would probably save you a lot of time in the long run.
Nice, Solar. You are a good buddy. The best thing I ever do for Ice is occasionally take out the garbage. Next time I do that he is going to look at me and say, "Great. Now where is my Gray Knight army?"
Hope he enjoys it. Give him my best when you see him. Hope he is doing well.
The glare from the light off of the metallic paint I added to the black really makes them shiny'r than they are
Better Libby shot
Stormraven
Full Army shot
Off to Iowa to deliver these this weekend. Gonna get my friend up to speed with the current rules and do a few practice games.
Back... Had a good couple of games, thou they were all instructional so nothing to show.
I'll definitely have to get another NDK. It was the toughest thing in the game. Survived just a ton of shooting. Ironically the last game saw it fall with a roll of a 1 on a 2+ Save from a Boltgun after rounds of las cannon shots.
Styro: This took me about a month to do. It was a easy paint theme. The build and little details taking the longest.
Prime Black. Base: Black/gunmetal 50/50. Bronze details with standard parchment scrolls and seals. Drybrush gunmetal.. Blue w lighter shades of blue for all the PW's Drybrush white...Done.
The'll need to be based.
What saved me a bunch of time was the airbrush. On darker colors it's a great time saver. On my yellows its tougher to do with all the clean up and detail colors.
Ok.. be a bit of a break as my shop heater is not working correctly. effectivily shutting me down till repaired ( or replaced - in that case, I'm out for the winter ) Sigh~
If I get it going I'll be working on finishing up all the half finished stuff. Bikes. WW turrets, Pred Turrets, Special weapon inf. Imperial Knight and Dreads. Never ends!
Gitsplitta wrote: Sorry there are no pics, would have loved to be looking over your shoulder for Brent's first game of 7th.
You'd probably get hit. He's so animated when he rolls his dice. Not to mention constantly sharing his views on the game inability to accurately portray the Emperors finest in game mechanics ( audited for political correctness )
I'll have to get a hold of YB and see about getting some games in.
Ok.. haven't been dong anything lately due to work and the sudden cold of the frozen Tundra. Did manage to get a deeply discounted Stormclaw box set so I've added to the hoard of Orks as well as got some additional Space wolf figures I'll do up with the Stormwolfs I'm painting for Yellowbeard. ( not starting a new army!! )
Hopefully I'll get a day during the US thanksgiving holiday for a full day of me time!
Intresting ( or am I missing something) that Spacewolfs are not that popular of an army on Dakka. Gallery search was a bit sparse.
I don't think SW have been particularly good since 5th edition where they were king. The devaluation of assault and ascension of marine units that aren't particularly space-wolfy has relegated them to the back-burner (and apparently the new codex didn't do them any favors.
I think a highly mobile SW army with pods, flyers and (actual) wolves might be pretty exciting to play in maelstrom missions... but I'm not sure it'll measure up to the top performing lists in any competitive situation.
Well, I'm not sure if the things that are "hot" right now in regular marine lists (TFCs, bikes, cents) are actually in the SW dex. I guess it would take someone whose seen the new dex to chime in.
We do have bikes they are called Swiftclaws and have WS/BS 3 , um yeah and no access to Grav guns. Thunderwolves are really your best bet with Stormshields and fists and uber lords and ironpriests on thunderwolves to go with them.
Edit: we dont have tfc's or cents but if you ally with us you can use our drop pod for your cents
And don't forget, the Space Wolves now have access to floating chariots! Makes the enemy easy targets while they're staring slack-jawed in disbelief when you whiz by, jingling bells and throwing around colourfully wrapped pakcages that make a ticking sound.
(Oh please have mercy on the new Blood Angels codex, spare us from Blood Brothers, riding flying Blood Bats, shooting Blood Cannons from their Blood Fists.)
I'll paint what I have and pass it on to YB.
I believe 2 five man squads of normal PA Marines. 1 squad of Terminators, 1 lord, 2 stormwolf flyers. I believe he has some TWC and other PA Marines.
I just be painting the basics and he can do with them what he wills.
Meph wrote: (Oh please have mercy on the new Blood Angels codex, spare us from Blood Brothers, riding flying Blood Bats, shooting Blood Cannons from their Blood Fists.)
I too am fearful that they will get the SM standard dum-down treatment. There are lots of rumors, Not holding out thou. GW didn't show any love to the SW, CSM and the Orks, I don't have much faith to hold on to.
I have lot of other things to finish up.. Namely my SM bike list. This is what I normally play when I game with SM. I need to make sure I got all the right elements without proxiying. After that I'm not sure. Itching to do something different... Maybe Orks. I have a ton of them.; Thou I still have Eldar and Necrons to finish.. oh and CSM ( kinda missing some models so I might wait on these ).
Curious.. Does your painting drive slow down during the winter months?
Had to catch up on what you've been doing. Loads of amazing work, man. If you're having a wee break then enjoy it, look forward to seeing more from you though.
it is more difficult to work in the winter for me.. My Mancave/Shop is outside and detatched from the main house. Super big space to work in however it takes a few hours just to heat the room up ( I don't heat it when I'm not using it ) before I can get to work.
Wisconson is a cold place in the winter. So usually I'll try to get some time in on the weekend where I can spend a good chunk of time out there working.
Tonight It's supposed to be below 0 without windchill. So I'll be bringing all my paints in so they don't freeze.
Then there is the Holidays where we eat turkey and pass out afterwords, content in our fullness. I should be able to get some time in with 4 days of Holiday!
Miss Dee wrote: How about having a temperary painting spot in the house?
Tried it.. I have cats. Friendly ones. Loves playing with my figures. Unlike the pic's you see in Git's blog with his cats just hanging out.. My little one like to snag my marines and run with it. funny at first , but when you missing a squad every day ...it's time to call it quits.
Or how about you use something like a toolbox, beauty case, or even shoebox to put together a 'mini kit' with a dozen paints, some brushes, a piece of cloth and something to put the minis in?
I use small cardboard box for that, quick setup on the coffee table, quick cleanup. And She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed can just sit in the couch watching whatever she wants
All good. The workroom is a nice retreat from everything.
Finished building the SW;s for Yellowbeard. 5 Man Grey Hunters, 5 Bloodclaws, Wolf lord, 5 termies. 1 Stormwolf left to do.
I magnitized the weapons for the 5 man PA Sarge's so to give him some options. I'm hoping to finish the 2nd Stormwolf and get some paint on them this holiday weekend.Anyone play SW's? What color do you prime yours . Black, white or grey?
I went with Black undercoat, 'The fang" Blue Grey for the base, Then a 'Russ Grey' overcoat. On to the black phase.
In the works
Wolflord with Axe - Stomclaw Leader Dragongaze?
5 WolfGuard. Leader with Axe, Hvy Flmr and Assault Cannon magnitized
10 Blood Claws. Weapon options- PF/ LC/ PS/ CS and BPistol or PPistol. One SW w/Flamer
10 Grey Hunters Weapon Options.. PF/ CS and BPistol or PPistol. 1 SW w/Plasma Gun.
2 Stormwolf Flyers.. both with LC, Magnitized MM or Missiles.
There not bigger than a Storm Raven thou. They have a different troop load out.. 16 SM's but no Dread.. AV 12. Lots of good firepower.
Been a fun build. Ironically not one of the figures I built are wearing a helmet. ( except the pilots of the flyers. ) This should give me a good number of figs to practice face painting. Going to try some different techniques to see what I like the best.
Good start on those Space Wolves. Watch out, cause you'll get hooked. I've been into them or 2 decades now.
You end up having a lot of no helmet guys, cause, um, well...Space Wolves. They have to smell stuff or something. A little thing I do for my nerdness, is that almost all of my guys, if they aren't wearing their helmets, I have them attached to their waists. Just in case of hull breaches or whatever. I think the Wolf Lord can be put on a 40mm. That's what they show him on on the box I think.
Thanks Ramos.. I'll get the paint unfrozen and back to work this weekend!
Moon...They are fun to build and the spru's come with a tremendious amount of options and bling. I didn't add anything extra as these are not for me. Luckly I already committed them to Yellowbeard otherwise I could see collecting a detachment. He can add extras if he wants. I'm just going to do a table top paintjob and call it good. I might come back and do a small SW ( thunderwolfs ect ) detachment later.
I'll think I'll stick with BA ( Lamenters) as my first choice. Hopefully they don't nerf'd in the upcoming codex too badly. ( hopefully out by years end! )
As for the Wolf lord.. I'll have to check the box set. I just assumed since he was just a PASM that he'd go on a normal Inf. base. I'm not sure I'll base them as I don't know what YB want to do.
Maybe you and Ice plan on day tripping to Adepticon? Be nice to get in some Wardens games.. just saying!!!
moonpie wrote: We talked about at least doing a day for it. I like to get up and see my mom while I am up there if she is going to be in town.
The new boxset is looking good for the Blood Angels. Want to see them in yellow and checkers!
get grav-guns.
Still would be good to get in a game of 40k in with just the Wardens and friends. I hope you guys can make it!
Bad part is that I don't need much anymore in the way of BA. I have some units that I haven't added to my options but unless there is some special character or amazing new figures I don't see me getting much. As for grav weponary I purchased some guns and pistols from FWHH line and started filling out more options for my Tac and Assaualt squads.
GW has the new BA codex up as a preorder as well as a new re-tooled tactical squad and Sang Priest.
SW update: Started on the black work on one of the storm wolfs. There is lots of details on these and it'll take a while. Painting the front engine cover red. Soon as i get both of these to a complete step I'll update with a picture. I'm trying to get playable by the 11th when Hopefully I have a game with YB set up!
Yeah Solar, we may have to try to plan some sort of low budget option to get there for a day. The tough part would be trying to find a place to play. The tables all seem to be used most of the time. I wonder if the new venue will have more room or perhaps an open gaming area.
Thanks for all the comments.....Who isn't inspired by Damo's reds!
I'm slow to change. but I'm beginning to learn that you have to highlight farther from the original color to have it look right. Maybe not a far as moonpies white for everything but farther than I usually go. Better pics when......
I've been building a light box. so I've been slowly getting all the parts together. Something I can hopefully leave up. Now I'm torn between a black and or a white background. I was going to go white but Damo's BA on black look really good!
Some work this weekend on Yellowbeards Space Wolfs. Thought it be funny if all the figures had ‘ yellow’ hair. Camera phone cause I’m still building my light box. IMO they look 10x better in person. Motivation for getting my LB finished. Next 10 Grey Hunters and the 2nd Stormwolf.
Wolf lord Erik Yellowbeard ( gotee ?)
10 man blood claws. Leader has options for BP or PP. CC weapons of PF, LC, CS or PS Wolf guard. Still some thing s to do on these. Drill barrels ect, touch ups. The AC and Hvy Flmr are magnetized.
Thanks.. I'm hoping to get the 2nd Storm wolf and the 10 Grey Hunters done over the weekend.
Tonight I'll get a chance to see the newly painted SW in action. YB and I are going to get a game in before the Holidays. I'll be making a BA list ( thou it looks very generic 5th ed. SM'ish)
Did not take any pics. I keep leaving the camera at home. Ususally I'm too busy to remember as I have to pack up all the figures the night before as I play coming right from work.
Good Game. the two codex's were really well balanced against each other. We played the maelstrom missions ( with the cards). I pulled off a win 10 to 3.
Another camera shot of Yellowbeards SW Lord Erik YellowBeard
Now back to the battle….
Yellow beard had..
Wolf Lord with 10 Grey Hunters in a Storm wolf. Several Plasma weapons In this squad
Rune priest with 10 Blood Claws in a Storm wolf
5 Wolf Guard termies in a Land Raider
I had
Astorath? Joins assault squad In Storm Raven
Libby in Termie armor w/5 man Command with Apoth novice, champion and 3 grav’s In DP 2 Furioso Dreds w frag cannons and MG in DP 5 man Tac in DP 5 man Scout , SR’s and Hvy Btlr
10 man Assault with 2 inferno pistols, combat squad’d into 2 Storm Ravens w/ MM and LC)
Vindi
Vanguard deployment, I go second.
YB deploys his LR w/ termies In back corner. I deploy my vindi in my corner on objective. Scouts deploy near his corner on a elevated overpass.
Turn 1 his LR moves forward but due to position unable to see vindi so nothing happens. My Vindi stays put on objective. Drop pod drops Furioso dread behind his LR and destroys it with the MG. Termies all survive. Tac squad Drop on another objective.
Turn 2 His SW come In. One outflanks behind the vindi and destroys it. CC termies destroy the Furioso but it manages to kill one termie. My DP Csquad comes in and Other fruioso DP both drop close to Termis squad. Massive shooting nothing. Blood lance does nothing. In CCSW termies kill Libby, all but 1 veteran of the Csquad. 1 termie dies. WTF! SR comes in and shoots everything at SWolf .. manages only to knock out a weapon. WTF2
Turn 3 SWolf blows up SR. Assault troop manages to walk away. 2nd Swolf goes into hover and drops Rune priest and blood claws near tac squad. Ensuing shooting and Assault wipes the tacs out. Furiso in CC kills all the remaining termies . Bout time! Flying Swolf shoots up scout squad and leaves only 1 Standing. Assault squad from destroyed SR jumps and runs to capture close objective. 2nd SR comes in and destroys the flying Swolf and it crashes into the hovering Swolf. Loses a hull point. I take a gamble and drop Astorath and his assault troops out of the zooming flyer. Luckily they hit behind cover and don’t scatter. Lone C squad jumps on objective .. remaining furiso dread runs.
Turn 4.. Hover SW flyer moves toward Wrecked SR assault squad on objective . It drops the wolf lord and Grey hunter. They move toward the Assault squad. Shooting kills all but 1 assault squad. Blood claws sit on objective. Storm Raven destroys 2nd Swolf by Hull points. Astorath and his Assault squad jumps Rune priest and Blood claws. People start dying on both sides. Furioso runs again. Remaining Assault marine charges Wolf lord and manages to get a kill before being hacked to death.
Turn 5 Wolf lord move claims objective. CC with the Rune priest unit and Chaplain units result in more SW dying. My SR shoots hovers and shoots at Wolf lord and the Grey hunters and kills more. Astorath challenges Rune priest and kills him outright. The remaining blod claws all die. Game ends.
Conclusion: I thought the two lists were really balanced against each other. The Randomness of the Objective cards allowed me to get a lot of victory point early on. YB seem to get the more difficult objectives or non location cards. If this had been a external war mission I would have lost. I had very little that could have matched his Wolf Lord and the number of Grey hunter remaining. Admittedly my dice were pretty average. Thou the timing and the circumstance of the rolls were timing bad ( such as the CC with the termies ). I also spent more time on trying to secure the objectives than YB , thou having more units to do so worked in my favor.
Automatically Appended Next Post: So 1/2 day of work tomorrow and then 9 days of holiday. Hoping to get the 10 Grey Hunters finished and the 2nd Stormwolf. After that I'm looking at putting together some more Death company. I think I'm going to strip the ones I did for Adetipicon and repaint them. I'd like to get about 15 total of each ( JP and non JP )
GiraffeX wrote: Sounds like a really close battle, is YB going to have any thunderwolves they are really good with powerfists and stormsheilds.
Yeah close and fun. I'm blessed with a bunch of guys that like to play socially. So it's always a great way to hang out and get in some cool games.
Not sure what ( YB) future plans are. I know he has talked about a more 'Feral' army. Wolves. Mastadons as Predators ect.. He doesn't have a lot of time so no telling if this will materialize. Still a great concept thou.
Gitsplitta wrote: Thanks for the bat rep SL! Sounds like a fun time!
Yeah good game..I like it when its challenging all the way through the turns. Also it gives us a chance to work out the rules we keep forgetting and refreshing the ones we think we know.
Looking forward to sometime in January at your place. Thinking about trying my Imperial knight and Scions as an attachment.
Everyone have a good Christmas/ Holiday/ Hanukah/ Kwanza/ Just Dec 24th ect.. Me ...9 Days Off. Whooo Hooo.
Didn't get any painting done during the holidays. Spent all my time building a bunch of Kits of things that have been sitting on the shelf for a long time. I'll have some time off at the begininning of the New Year so I hope to get a day of priming.
4 day off and looking to start priming. Had a few hours yesterday and decided to try out some test schemes. Had AB problems.. then.. AB breakage. Nothing serious just the side paint cup broke from the feeder stem. Ordered a new on but who know when it'll get here. Oh well.. I probably work on YB Space wolfs.
AB back in action. with the little time I had. I managed to Prime and base coat a bunch of models. Since my time is limited, I gonna take a slower more progressive approach.. I'm doing the same step in the painting process for a bunch of models. Hopefully it'll help me actually get to working all the way thru without bouncing around so much. Boring at times but I might complete something.
Started assembling my light box. In the meantime it's cold in WI.
Slowly working on finishing YB SW's. Looking to get that off my plate.
Pulled out my Ork models since there seems to be a renewed intrest on Orks blogs. After all the number crunching I came out with 4100 pts worth, So while they were out I thought I play around with some themes. Might start another blog to explore this further.
Yeah.. I did the last 10 without Helmets, so went with it. ( Termies as well ) Besides I cannot imagine most of these guys being able to wear Hemets with the hair and beards. ( half of them probably lost their helmets long ago or left them on the ship.)
When I asked YB , he said. Their SW. They don't need Helmets. At least they all use the same Salon.
Finished the 2nd Storm Wolf. This one with white details. Again not much SW embellishments as YB can add if he wants to, There are magnetized options for the MM and Missiles ( you can see on the 2nd photo I knoicked the MM out of it's mount). Camera phone shot since my Phototable is being used as a shelf due to my wife needing the table for her special effect make-up project!
All done on the SW for now. I do have some Friesian wolfs I bought for him as a gift I’ll be painting when they arrive.
By the front you mean each side?. You looking to remove the Icon in order to use it elsewhere or remove the icon from the model?
I imagine a good file will take it off the panel. Not too difficult. Are you looking for SW icons? I still have a bunch of things I didn't put on these two. Sheilds, pelts ect. Was thinking about using some for the eventual SWTW cav, I'll be building for YB someday!
The opposite actually. I like the general shape of the ship, and have seen it used in place of Caestus Assault Ram, but would like to de-wolfify it. I have no concern for saving the wolf's head.
No progress this weekend due to illness. All I managed to do was pull out some Necron tomb Blades to see If I have enough to make a viable list. Back to bed.
Managed to get another game in with Yellowbeard. This time Lamenters using WS tactics vs his SW. Was totally slaughtered. SW for the WIN. 7 to 24. What was amazing is the fact that he did this with out using the 6 man TW cav. Yes it was that bad. I'm guessing my 'bike' list is not that great. This is the 3rd 'spanking' I've recieved. I'll give it one more shot this week against the same army. If this continues I'll look for another build... maybe BA's.
Very cold this weekend so didn't do any painting. But still I was excited to get 'something' done. I had a bunch of foam board left from my recent terrain and road works that I donated to my local FLGS. ( they had very crappy terrain ). So I got out the xacto knife and just went at it. In all I built several large (30') buildings fronts that could be use to define a interior of a single building. 4 other 'Insides' of building and general terrain. Not sure when I'll get to applying the paste on the edges as I got to get the few things I need done for Adepticon. Namely tomb blades and some Lamenters ( not playing in the tourney this year, but will be playing as many Pick up games as possible )
Yeah, but you forgot to mention that the dice were all one sided: yours were incredibly BAD, while mine were disproportinately good. There's no way a stock Grey Hunter Squad should have taken down a Command Bike squad with Khan, a Librarian, and an Apoc!
I managed to get some modelling done this weekend. Maybe someday I'll take some pics and resurrect my plog.
True but thats what did happen...dice can be what hey may in anygame! Statagey was still sound. Tie up my tough units while picking off the rest. Still a great win.
I saw those buildings on another blog. As the owner of your old set... I'd actually pay you to make some to go with my current city board. They are fantastic!
I can empathize... my boys have been kicking the collective *sses of my marines and grots all over the table lately. The marines are especially hapless.
Gitsplitta wrote: I saw those buildings on another blog. As the owner of your old set... I'd actually pay you to make some to go with my current city board. They are fantastic!
Odd.. they are just very basic. You have a lot of nice terrain. I can put some together for you but I'd have to up the quality to match your current stuff. And as always free of charge!
Gitsplitta wrote: I can empathize... my boys have been kicking the collective *sses of my marines and grots all over the table lately. The marines are especially hapless.
.
I actually like the list. It may be too selective, but if i go with a more general list I may find the outcome to be no different.
The crashed Talon is among my all time favorite pieces you've done. You seem to have a particular talent for terrain and getting it to feel right. Even the basic stuff still comes out very nice.
Thanks, thou you'll almost never see it in games as I do most of my gaming at my local game store. Same for all the set peices ( drums, crates and piping et ) for all those AC displays.
I've alot of stuff I've not shown; larger domes, those storage tanks ( I got from work - pages back ), stuff for my own table. This new stuff is for everyday gaming and based off of ease of use and not necessarly all that detailed. Still it's better than what my FLGS has. I'll try to get some pic of the new larger buildings ( 30' length ) sometime this week.
Someday I'd like to do a Imperial wall defence line or maybe a canal with bridges. My Flgs needs all the variety and help it can get!.
I still check out threads about the Pasadena Game Empire, because I donated my terrain from my home board(in exchange for store credit). Some of the stuff is still going strong even 7 years later. I built my stuff for durability, because I don't treat things nicely.
Those buildings you made make me want to put ladders and walkways on them and bust out my Cawdor gangers!
I think you have hit a good sweet spot between functionality and aesthetics. Good looking terrain is cool until you can't use it and then what?
Thanks.. I miss playing NM.. perfect game for a campaign.
So as promised here is quick camera shot of the recent terrain I'm building for my FLGS. I built some bigger ruin sectons. The two big buildings are 30" long & 3 story's tall and each floor can fit a normal dread or crisis suit. Figures for scale. Some new road sections as well to go along with my recent overpass's.
These are just in the assembly stage so no details. I'll dress them out a little and get some texture on them ( namely to cover the foam edges ) and get to spray painting. They will be painted in the same style as the previous batch... below...
Awesome! I could totally see my Cawdor charging across that only to get gunned down by Ice's Van Saar, maybe getting one dude in close combat and then bottling out...
Just think about the stuff you could do with a gang now that plastic is the way it is.
Seriously, I've developed a teleporter and most likely hunting an arch villian named Moonpie whom is set on world domination.. that sounds believable...doesn't it?
I mean the arch villian thing not the teleporter.
actually... Don't know!
Translation: Sweet.. this will be a great piece of terrain to destroy your pitiful excuse of a marine army against my unbeatable Space Wolfs list of increadable furryness!
Too be honest .. I see the pic showing that terrain set up as 2 IG armies trenched in and shooting at each other.. WW2 Stalingrad anyone?
Solar I would have never pegged you as a Goliath player. I would have guessed Orlock or possibly Delaque.
I work in a fortune 500 company. I get enough tech and politics.
moonpie wrote: Disagree. Dumb, bully brutes with bad fashion sense? Solar had to be all over that.
Can we just imagine what they could pull off with a plastic gang kit these days?
Thanks for the compliment....wait was it? Too bad this isn't supported anymore. I also have a Esher and an Arbites faction.
Ok finished up the next terrain pieces that I’ll donate to my Local FLGS. 6 new buildings and 5 road sections to go with the overpass pieces I did last time. A bit bright due to the only time the sun came out this weekend
Somewhat blurry. Figures for scale.
Shot from the large buildings door looking out over the center.
I'll bring these to the store on Thursday in time for YB's and I's rematch.
Moon... They are coated several times, However this will not prevent them from chipping at the edges. Still these are made to be played on and not so much a work of art as functional. They are simple to make and repair. I like having a bunch of terrain that looks like it belongs together. It also goes well with the paint theme of my Albino Orks. Yes I planned it that way!
I'll think they'll fit in with the previous set just fine
If it was for my own use I put a lot more details and textures into them. Like decoration and ledges on the buildings, graffiti, mold or vines, all sorts or debris, crates, drums maybe a wreck or a dead body here or there. I'm looking into getting the 1X1 foot tiles to make permanent structures like with all the manuf. Tanks I got from work.
I have tons of other Pipe kits and stuff from old Adepticon displays I could use as well. I’ll be making a set of basic buildings for Ice ( and thus you). Give me a chance to play with painting snow and Ice effects. I’ll embellish them a bit more as one would expect to gain favor of such an esteemed colleagues. After Adepticon.
Thanks Waaazag. We always try to be terrain heavy in our games. Makes moving models a bit more difficult but we like the visual effect.
I concur! Adepticon is fun but I'd have to say GenCon is the best. It is truly overwhelming how many events and things there are to do. You can spend your entire 4 days just in the convention hall and still not see it all let alone making it to any of the thousands of events that consume every hotel and free room in down town Indy.
I can't wait to see what you come up with for the terrain Solar.
Maybe back in the day, when D&D was the thing and I was young. But being surrounded by throngs of ' Card' players and Anime isn't my thing. Admittedly I speak with having never attended. Power to those who do but I'll stick to AC and 40K smaller events for now.
How is 40K represented?
I'll looking forward to doing some different stuff for your terrain. ( this is more my thing )
Game cancelled for tonight. So I'll be dropping off the new terrain tomorrow with my weekly friday visit to see what new stuff came in. So I won't be the first to play on these they should be in pretty good shape to count as new.
Got some more painting done. 1 weekend to finish stuff for AC.
Some Wolves for YB. ( yes I'll fix the chin gap I missed - Dohhh! ) These are painted up to match the pelt I did on his SW Inf. I use the graven drybrush technique to the max to make them look like white wolves not White blobs.
Next some Necrons I needed for the army I'm bringing to Adepticon. Sorry the pics are blurry. I'm still improving my photo table.
I purchased extra gun options and mounts so I'll be sorting out what and how to mount and interchange,
Lastly finish the 10 Praetorians.
Thanks, I wish the pics were a bit clearer. but I'll dial in my new set up as I go.
These TB are all Gauss, The next 3 are magnitized so I'll be able to change out weaponery to mix it up a bit.
Just about a week till I leave for Adepticon ( with Gits and thing1 ) So I really have to narrow down my lists. Right now I'm bringing 2000 pts of Lamenters, Necrons and Grey Knights. Not necessarly competitive lists but more general and well rounded ( and painted ). Again if your going to Adepticon and wanna game ( or just say Hi ) look for us. We'll probably be wearing our team shirts with our Dakka avatars on the back. Should be easy to spot.
GiraffeX wrote: The Tomb Blades look great, all the green really works with the white and black.
Thanks, Oddly they are only 4 colors, Black, Dwarf bronze, Scorpion Green and White. Some light metallic drybrushing
That the sad part. There are a lot of cool folks on Dakka that I'd love to play and or that we wish live in the same community. How cool it would be to hang and game with this crowd! That's why it's cool to attend Adepticon. In the years past we've meet so many Dakkites, and even played against them in the tourney. Though I'd have to admit being a 'wingman' to Git's has it's advantages. Though one cannot stare at the sun too long before the shadow of his admirers block out the light. but understand it's tough being the popular one, ( WM being the pretty one ) ~sigh~ ( yes cheap shot, but it's a tradition - ask Ice, Moonpie, Briancj, WM, Ramos, Yellowbeard or Wyomingfox ).
Dropped of the next set of terrain for my FLGS. I wanted to see all the stuff I brought in . As it was I still left out 6-7 pieces. 4x8 table.
Full table shots…
Here’s a ground view looking between the supports of the far overpass down the road. Damn where the hell is that sniper!
Next terrain piece will be Ork versions of the same for Ice. ( after Adepticon )
We'll be missing our fellow Warders for sure this year!
Here is the armies I’m taking for open gaming at Adepticon. Quick Camera shots as I start to lay out what to pack.
The Lamenter army is pretty much unwinnable against anything Serious, but should make for a lot of Chaos and fun. 2000pts of pure genericness.
1850 Necron. This one is a bit more competitive and more rounded. Wanted to stay away from spamming flyers and warriors.
I need to finish painting the Hvy Bolters for the flyers and a Tech Marine for my buds Grey knights.
I might be able to facilitate that wish. Group down here has quarterly(?) apoc games that apparently aren't dominated by SH (sometimes have none). I'll keep you informed.
Interesting is the operative word. 2 of the dreads behind the enemy on turn 1 and 2 again next turn, Should be enough chaos that all the light vehicles might survive turn 2. Their man function is to take out vehicles a point blank range while my dev and shooty Mech Inf. pushes from the front. Still All light vehicles so they won't get more than 1-2 turns of shooting.
Back from AC. Had a great time though I didn't get to many events and as many pictures as I wanted. I still need to download the ones I have off my camera so I'll get to this hopefully in a day or so.
Highlights.. Hanging with Ritides at the ModCube booth. Great product and I believe it will be a great success; Not just for the price, but how it'll make the games easier to play and faster. This would have sold well at this venue.
Had some great pick up games of 40K. Gits' MW stomped me on a custom 4x4 table. ( see his blog ). I got in my game with Thing 2.0 ( formally known as Thing 1). Necron Air force vs my Decurion. Tabled him in the 4th. Good Game and it was a great learning experience for him. Got beat by Chaplain Buska's ( Old friend) Grey knights ( damn 1st turn Alpha strike ). Helped run a game with Ramos and Thing 2.0 vs Rad and Buszka's GK. Lastly finished the con with a game of Mine and Thing 2.0's Necrons vs the MW and Rad's Sisters for a win.
Hotel was great but food was super expensive. ( next year bring snacks! ) TV in the bathroom mirror was unexpected by everyone but the rooms were nice and clean. The hotel was easy to get to and was close enough to some great restaurants
Got to play Boss Monster with some of the Mods. ( Yakface ran it for us ) It was our late night game before turning in. Most of us walked out of the con with it having run the vendor out of stock.
Spent way to much money at FW but got some cool stuff and books I was wanting. Probably could have spent double of what i did. A lot of good vendors. The vendors space was better than in previous years and so much cool stuff. Wishing I had more time to demo all the games. There was something for all. Got a lot of cards and I'll be eagerly awaiting some of the kickstarters that were on display.
Now back to real life and getting back to painting.
Glad you had a good time. Certainly had some good games. That list you and Thing 2.0 fielded was tournament worthy.... you guys kicked the livin' daylights out of ClensingFire's SOB allied with my Mantis Warriors. Not even sure you could call that a battle really. I think we killed 1 unit & that was in the turn 1 shooting phase.
Much as I did have a lot of fun this year, I do feel like I "left something on the table" so-to-speak. Oh wait... that was my Librarian. Not participating in anything official did leave and empty spot. Somehow I didn't get in all the pick-up games I wanted to, didn't get to look at the CMON entries, and didn't get to look at the army displays... the latter two I've always managed to do in the past, even when I'm up to neck in events. I don't get it.
Hahaha that was one heck of a brutal game between you guys. Twin Crons vs the Mantis Warriors and SoBs... So much squishy.
I kind of liked not having the official event to go to. Meant that I could kick back and relax more with you guys. Was great to get other demo games in as well. It was a treat just to hang out with you guys all weekend
Cron are still tough. Looking to see what the new Khorne book puts out.. Looks like Bloodthirsters are tough meaning you could potentially see 3 on the table in an bound army.
It was great hanging with you .. now we need to get you to Wisconson, find you a nice farm girl and a decent job and we'll be playing alot more.
I'd be open to do some 40k events next year. Still like the challenge. Hopefully the wardens will be back and in number next year so if nothing we'll have more players to do pickup games and someone might be able to beat Gits. It could happen!
I'm working, I'm working. Be a bit of a break till I get into the shop again. Weather looking nice so I'll need to get to fighter practice and do some beating ( or being beat! ) Yeah Spring!
Briancj wrote: Can I sign up for the 'nice farm girl and a job' plan, too?
I'll add you to the list for sure.
Finally got some pictures off the Camera from Adepticon. As one could expect there were Imperial Knights aplenty. He is small fraction of what I saw.
One of my favorites. different painting technique.
Not sure this is a knight, rather a Mechanicus bot, but it looked darn cool
Not sure .. but it does give that impression. At least texture. The last two must belong to the same person or was painted by the same person. The Techniques are too similar.
More from AC.. The entry that won the CB top prize. Amazing sculpt and paint job.
The Golden Throne display.
Here was an amazing historical entry.
This wasn’t an entry I believe , but was a fabulous paint job. I was particularly impressed on how well they did the face. Perfect lips and eyes.
More AC pics to come.. In the meantime I picked up some SM's from a local player that was parting with his overflow. I got a bunch of new Tac Spue's, a assault squad, a Devastator, and a couple of badly painted Preds without the side sponsons. Since I have 6 rhino variants that I can make into almost every variant. I decided to paint these for YB. SInce he never reads my blog (cause the guy is so busy working). I'm safe to show you their reincarnation.
While I got out the AB, I put together 2 additional GH squads of 5. I had enough devestators ( after I took the figures I wanted for my Lamenters ) to make a squad of Las cannon, Plasma cannon and 2 ML's. I have enough Tac squad ML's to add a couple to the Squad, but now I'll stick with this load out. Lastly a 5 man squad of Sky claws ( with the help of some BADC jumppacks I won't use ). Not gonna get to detailed on these and just doing a basic paint job. He can detail these on his own.
The door details are from the SW flyers kits. The doors are magnitized so they can swap out for sponsons as soon as I can get some ordered. There is alos a rhino hatch to match so they can be played as normal rhinos. Also need to get some hatches and SB/HK mounts so they will be wysiwyg.
Lastly used a Black reach dread and SW 'd it with an converted hellfrost bit for an additonal option. What a nice guy I am!
Another game tonight with the unlucky Lamenters. YB's SW have managed to beat me in the last 2 encounters.
I have mixed up my list quite a bit. ( cause It's fun and It'll be with some models I don't usually play and to try different tactics)
My List
MotF with PAxe and Conv. beam
Libby, Lv2 Ppistol
5xscouts w/camo cloaks and SR
2 Tac squads with Gravguns, HB, sarge with MB, Rhino
10 assualt marines
4 Dreads with MM, HF in Pods
2 Landspeeders with MM, TML
2 Vengence Batteries with BC Should be a heavy shooting fast moving army perfect for Maelstrom missions. Hopefully I can cause enough damage or evade his TWC units.
2500 Demonkin vs. 1250 GK's & 1250 SW.
The demon list was very competitive. Very Little did the GK demonic stopping powers come to play. Force was useless due to the high number of heavy creatures in his list.
Demon Prince
3 Hellbrutes
2 Maulerfiends
2 forgefiends
Soul grinfder
Chaos lord w Possessed.
Chaos SM & cultists
2 hell drakes.
Least to say we were tabled by the end of turn 3. Lots of problems with reserve and dice rolls so I have to say we did poorly and rightfully suffered for it. Still with the list we had we still had no way to match the power of that list even with the same points.
Was a great game but still I'm thinking that in order to win anything anymore ( YB and I play tough list against each other but they are equally balanced and equally fluffy ) one has to have a really competitive list.
My opponent did nothing wrong and rolled exceptionally well and played smartly, but in no way did he ever felt threatened, and challenged. More like going through the motions.
I probably would have done better with a standard Marine army. Now I'm not feeling so bad fielding my Necrons, Eldar or a Grav heavy cent SM lists.
Interesting new Meta for sure. Looks like I'll need to get out those 2 boxes of Centurions right away!

Agreed. The "normal" lists I have to show up with for our weekly club games are much more powerful than anything I've fielded before, and some of the competitive lists I'm contemplating are just ridiculous. It doesn't mean there isn't a place for fun/fluffy lists anymore, but it does mean that you need to have an understanding with your opponent before-hand in order to field them and feel like you've got any chance to win the game.
Also, it seems that people's ideas about what a "fluffy" list is have shifted considerably into what I consider more powerful builds.
~Whew~ Haven't hit my Lamenters for a while but the new SM Codex is out and I was inspired by Git's MW centurions. Seeing how they are now one of the ' must have' Units for the SM . I decided to crack open one of the two boxes I have in my pile.
Working slowly trying to get the balance between armor and all the support frame. A lot more to finish...
I went the traditional route. Thought that it should have some armor. To bad the poses are so static. I'll magnetize the chest guns but pretty sure I won't stray from the 2 Gravs and 1 LC set up that is currently proven.
Thanks Gir.. Everything I paint now days seems to need a lot of detail thus taking forever.
On a cool note I got invited to an Apoc game. The only drawback is I got aligned to the ' Evil' side as they call it. I got 4000pts to play with but I'm not sure I have 4000 pts of anything except Lamenters.
I have some Orks but not 4000 pts and most are unpainted. Necrons are in but not 4000pts.. I have Eldar but does this belong with my allies? 1 Necrom , 1 Demonkin and 1 Ork player. The 'Good' team I believe is IG?, 2xBA and Tau
I will not have time to paint enough to fill in the Gaps. Darn I should have got that Reaver titan x2!
