OK. where have I been ...
Working feverishly on getting back to some of the leftover projects I haven't quite and never seem to finish. Unfortunitly I move from figure to figure, unlike git whom seems to work thu ( most of the time) a peice to completion. I also am working on my new list for Adepticon.
Old stuff..
I have finished all the weathering of my Scout bikers ( I still need one more to make 5
Played my first game of second ed. and help run another. Really just going thru the exercise of learning the rules.
Got to see how fun it was that YB was running a White Scar list motivated me to finish up some Marine bikers that I have been working on for years ( seek insperation where you can)
Almost done with 4 of them and 2 Attack bikes. I went with the advice of Git, Meph and others that yellow needs to be "dirty'd up" so they look much more worn than my older stuff.
I also managed to partically complete two Rhino's/ RB's with some updates. I've finished the Las/Plas turrents on both. Magnitized the mounts ( More variations forthcoming ).
I magnitize the HKM and the SB options for both as well. Still need to do the same with searchlight options)
I have on order several Assault cannon mounts ( using the same base) that should arrive any day. I plan on getting a couple of Flamer mounts and TL LC as well to complete my full list of choices. I plan to use the original RB weapons platform in some new gun turrent terrain peices.
Last night I built 2 Dev squads ( 4 ML each) and a Baal Pred; all now waiting for Primer. ( I will only get this much done if I have a weekend and enough stuff to get a chunk done all at once. Otherwise is an hour a day; most prep for a day of painting)
Once I've gotten these complete I'll be finishing off my Assault squads w/ magnitized JP/backpacks. After that I will be determined to get more of the half finished stuff done (Contemptors and Apoth )
I will have pics as they are completly finished

Definitly causing me some stress... I shouldn't have started him at the sametime I did my contemptor. Everything I do makes them look like twins. I can never seem to get the checkered pattern down where I'm satisified. So I have to put him away and do a bit at a time.
Don't worry he will get done!

I have been painting - a lot actually . Thou most of my stuff will never amount to more than table top ( I no longer have the hand/ eye nor eyesight to do details) I have tried to do unique themes
Here is a shot of some of the things I've been working on. Its a camera phone shot ( wife has good camera at work) I'll post some better shots when I get more fully completed ( Not much weathering is done on these figures yet!)
Overall
Baal Pred with magnitized AC.I'm starting some paint damage as well.
Some Dev's ML I'm working on.. They all have green lenses but the light just fades them out..
The bikes are just waiting for a wash along with 2 Magnitized Attack bikes. This brings my Bike total to 8 and my Scout bike to 5. More ( and hopefully better) pics to come.
I also have finished 2 Las Plas RB turrent and you can see the 2 AC turrents waiting to be washed.
I have some open time this week to get all the oil washing/weathering done!

Looking great Amigo! And I love how your "tabletop" is better than most best-ever-finished (it's always worth browsing ebay's 'pro-painted' minis for a giggle...)
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Ok almost done on the bikes.. This brings my scouts to 5 ( 3 GL) and 8 bikes ( I plan to run them in a group of 5 - so I have a Melta/ plasma/ Flamer all available)
Both 5 man Dev squads ( 4 ML ) are all together now. They are waiting to be based.
All the above need weathering. Then on to other unfinished projects. I took more pic's last night ( yes from my phone ) but haven't look to see if they turned out good enough to post. More to come... Automatically Appended Next Post: inmygravenimage wrote:Looking great Amigo! Of course.. My standard of table top. . I honestly think they are acceptable considering that the game store I go to usually is a sea of grey or at most 2 colors. I doing ok then~!

The New stuff is more gritty and dirty .. Everyone kept telling me to put a little ( or a lot ) of weathering. SO i've been using Meph's oil technique. The new stuff hasn't been done yet.. but there is always tonight! BUhahahahahhha

Those are stunning! I love the checks. Really very pretty, I hope one day my Lamenters could look as good as yours.
Oh, and have you tried any of the new yellow paints yet? I've heard they were quite good.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Thanks Proto - Keep paining and soon I'll be saying the same about yours...
Some of the washes mostly. Unfortunitly I have to match my other figures or they'll look "off" if I change now!
So I've. weathered the lot and will need to do a few more details and I'll be ready to take some real pictures.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Some Pics as promised. There is still some little things to do such as basing and cleaning up shoulder pads ( checks are hard to do) but at least I’m moving ahead. All just table top ready.
All are done in my attempt to “ dirty “ my yellow up base on the feedback you all have been providing.
Here is my two 5 man Dev’s all ML.
Baal Predator with AC
Same Predator with Flame cannon ( intresting that the flash turned thes bright yellow - the actual color is more like the one above)
I have pieces to swap out all my Rhino variants into RB ( all interchangeable to Predators as well ) Here is the AC version
Las/ Plas version
Finished Off the last scout biker ( need to base him) I chopped up the bikes guarding to look more dirt bike'ish. Just thought is would be cool to have Scouts bouncing off terrain.
Close up
And after playing a cool game with Yellowbeard playing a bike list, I thought I get to my Bikers (Years in the making) One is out of the picture as I'm missing a base.
Close up Left..
Close up right..
Attack Bikes ( 2 ) w/ interchangeable Melta/ Hvy Bolter
Close up of one..
Next Up finish the apoth, Contemptors and a 5 man Sternguard squad with hvy Plasmas.
In general I also painted my Aegis Defence Line.. nothing fancy... just did't like being called out for fielding grey stuff..Here is the Quad gun.
SL

Post by: inmygravenimage
Lovely as always, but that Aegis has to be far and away the best I've seen. The barrels really sell it to me, as do the little flashes of red. Great job, man.

what was the AC's made from?
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
That stuff looks fantastic SL! You've become the Master of Yellow... (but you gotta get that one biker off his rectangular base). I agree with graven, the touches of red are just right to make the figures really jump off the screen. I also like the bits of bronzy color here and there... really adds a bit of interest, but it's subtle. Very well done my friend.

Post by: Solar_lion
There all stock from the box. I didn't kitbash any of it. Actually I think I glued the gun backwards; but not changing it. It's glued good!
Thanks Graven and Gits
Yeah I need to get some more biker bases The square ones came with the old old sets I might just order some resin ones and do the whole group.

Some more WIP from this weekend
I've been putting together a 5 Man Sternguard w/ PC. I used the actual box set and had to really hack apart several guys to get the PC to even remotely fit. Right now the Power cables are GS and curing before final clean up and sanding. Some late night pics - still trying to get the feel for the new camera. Just don't have the right settings yet.
Redone photos...
Here is the start of 2 Tac Squads.. Yes I paint body then add the arms; this way I get the details behind the arms painted. They still need to have the detail done- such as some grenades and pouches. All the Figures haven't been " dirtied up " yet that will darken the recess's and define the edges a bit. I might try the yellow wash on a few to see what effect it has.
Trying my luck with the new Libby fro DV
Also just for fun some Raptors I'm helping to do the base coating on for a friend of mine. There is one Raptor in center that is complete ( test color model). These seem like they would really look good with some severe weatheing and battle damage.
Another week and I'll have the sternguard all finished and hopefully some of the Tac guys.

That's what I painted them. It's a take off of the Ultramarines Sternguard; except they all had white helmets. I tried this to start with with it looked so Odd with the yellow armor. ( candy corn anyone!)
Hopefully the GS will have cured by tonight and I;ll finish painting the PC's. I'll be doing more experimenting with the new camera trying to get better shots.
The Libby is really cool.

you could do checkers on the shoulder pads, so that it looks like the decorations, cruxes etc have gone on top of a regular checkered shoulder pad. would look great i reckon, if somewhat difficult to do

I agree with Calas, especially the two with the plasma cannons, and I reckon the studded pad would be pretty cool with checks.

Yeah it is a nice touch.. At least no one recomended checkering the vents! I have to go back and do some of the older figures but it would break up the yellow.

Great suggestion but are you "trying to kill me?" You might be right. I might try it on a shoulder pad from my bits box; Thou after I get my Adepticon Lists, GMS's and Display done.

Nice work on the scouts, did you have plans for the cloaks?
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
There more golden yellow. The lighting is a bit different on the POV shot. they are more like the first Pic.
The Cloaks are a bit Mottled .. The theme was urban rubble as I suspect they are always in cover . That why they are dusted and match the base, ( gun and silencer for example - like a modern sniper)
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Got it... didn't get the urban rubble thing so they looked kind of unfinished. Have you considered ringing the bases in some other color (like black)? It would make them look a bit more finished.

Or speaking of chess boards... Traitor Alice mocks the Sister superior of the Red Queens and proceeds up the stairs to do battle with the Imperial Ordinance called the “ Jabberwocky” and suddenly three red dots appear on her breastplate.. " I thought you had 4 snipers in your list.." A slight smile appears on the sisters face..." You didn't think we'd let the mad Hatman live did you?"

Thanks.
"all - Mk. VI" chapter ??"
All subjective I suppose. I grew up with the " beekie" back in the RT days. thou not as odd as some of the earlier artwork from the RT era ( horns and spikes on the helmet - thou do you remember " Kill, Kill, Kill"?) My guys are a combination of multiple kits. I use a lot of the chaos breastplates cleaned up as well as the ones without the eagle. BA legs and arms for the extra heraldic details. It represents my interpretation of the pre Badab war Lamenter army; where as they are being refitted and supplied by the industrial generosity of the Astral Claws.
Mostly the “beekie” remains the helmet of 40K to this RT era guy. If I was to do a Modern Lamenter army I’d like to do one in all MK 8’s with more tailoring with the BA Kits. But as we all know we don't need another streight BA Army just in a different color. However my next Big Marine Project is to do a Truescale of my Original Chapter. Not more than 1500 or so points. Just enough to use in some games.
Very Cool.. these guy are just as basic as you get. No Highlighting ect. They are mass painted using as many of the Generic BR and DV guys as a cheap way to produce an army quickly. I may go back and highlight them with another lighter green with a top down spray later. Right now they are good enough to field. ( Still need to do the bases )

A quick number look up put the current list about just over 3500 with wysiwyg.
All I managed to do was remove the feathers from the shoulder, leaving the star and skull. I grinded down the right shoulder pad to accomidate the FW raptor termi pad! scrapped off the other DA iconography except for the SB. Since I don't highlight it ; It really doesn't distract. 3 more to finish and a CML to add.
Next up for the Raptors will be a Storm Talon. For this I'll put more detail into as It'll be good practice for the Lamenters ones I'm doing. ( yess I know it violates the BA codex. but sometimes I run my Lamenters as vanilla )

Briancj wrote:I'm going to pick nits, I'm sorry. Are you going to paint the support beams/structure on the cockpit glass?
Not sure.. I didn’t add those bits to my SR's. I like to assume that the technology exists to create canopy of re-enforced structural non- sight limiting framework in the year 40,000.. I still may do so but it wasn’t and isn’t a priority. Thou it much more obvious on the ST.
As for the realism look of the canopy is the least of this models airodynamic designs flaws. Does anyone think this could fly, much less dogfight? I did find it to be way smaller than I anticipated. I was thinking it would be inbetween the current model and the SR. Still it was easy to put together and paint.

Thanks sir. It is all most black underneath with only a light dusting of green grading up to then green on the top other peices were painted base alagound to get a contrast. All in all it was a fun project.
Look forward to seeing a mentor and brighter shade of green on yours.
I could see alot of things one could do differently to this model. I still thought it was a good practice for when I get my 2 for my Lamenters.
Some things that might look decent is sweeping the engine wings backwards. I also don't like the size of the front guns. They are too out of proportion to the rest of the model. I like the HB/ ML set up.

Not really .. it's a tiny thing. you can see it's over all size profile next to the normal guys. Maybe some of the smaller decals used for troopers.

Thanks, the checkers can drive you insane, you can spend literally hours trying to get them even. I don't have the hands or eyes anymore to do that, so tabletop is the best they are going to get.
The Raptors are for our Alt Adepticon team member, Thou technically my Army, but trying to help him out. ( new job and new baby ect..) I'll probably not do much more that what is in his list.

Yeah.. but a character should be special. Never mind how an 8 foot super human in hvy armor can do stealthy is a good question as well. In reality all real combat troops would use camo of some kind. There has been a lot of discussion on SM use of camo. GW of old used to have several Chapters clad in Camo for campaigns ( Mantis Warriors and Executioners ) FW has brought back some with the Badab books.

As to my participation next year... No idea! I'm not planning it (though I'd LOVE to go), but in theory could be capable (though I'm WAY under-practiced in playing 40k).
The biggest obstacle at this point is my job situation. I'm hoping to score a spot in the JET Program, where they send people to Japan for a year to teach English. If I get it, Ill be halfway across the world come Adepticon '14! Though I won't know till February if I even get an interview, and won't know if I have a job till April. All in all quite stressful waiting on it ><'

Thanks.. Actually these are seconds.. thou I'm pleased for my first crack at it. I needed to cut some corners for time so I went basic. The original plans ( which I'll do over the summer ) will be stackable, Have detail interiors and bases. They will have removeable panels so I can switch out depending on which army I'm playing.. Chaos, IG or my various SM armies. Nice thing is the turrets are removeable and interchangeable.
The lenses did come out better than my others. Still I struggle doing properly even with the tutorial. My age is showing!

Forward projects on the docket! Since everyone is 2013 goal setting!
Finish 2 Adepticon displays ; Bunkers and gun empacements finished. Need to do: Crane, AA turrets, 2 Chimeras, A whole mess of Penal troops, Concrete barriers and a Power generator + a lot of painting.
5 individual army trays ( chapter unique - for carrying or armies from game to game.
Techmarine for the Raptors (eventually the Lamenters)
Jumppack for Ice Apoth..
GMS for Git..
Then after April ..
Finish dread and Contemptors
Finish the 2 half done Drop Pods
2 Lamenter Storm Talons ( for when I play them as Vanilla marines)
Some other Hvy weapons ( other than ML - 10 is enough) MM and HB's
Then I like to design a board with all matching terrain ( instead of the hodgepodge stuff I currently have)
Win the lottery!

Thanks,
No. Our leader is going with an mostly inf strategy. So far the pretesting games ( Wins 1 loses 4 ) has revealed some flaws but they are mostly my inexperience, rule learning’s and my continued torture by the dice gods! The first 2 I vow to correct. The last is only rectifiable by a mass sacrifice on a global scale.

Just be careful you don't make a martyr out of the dice. The rest will continue to roll ones in protest! That's the main reason I haven't sacrificed my bad dice to the hammer gods xD

No! just not in the gutter!
Ok, back to work. I started to build the 2 displays for Adepticon and this year I decided to make Items removable so that I could use them for actual games and have them available for future displays. Last Year display is not really useable for play nor easily disassembled for re-use. Thus the bunkers in my earlier post.
Part of our displays will be elements of PDF forces and objects used by the Mechanicus. Huron be prasied!
The IG/PDF will be part of the IG army I’m really slowly building call the Reaper Guard. I’ll use this as an opportunity to build and paint some units that will make it into our displays..
Reaper Guard Chimera – All the weapons variant are removable and I still have some decals to put on. Searhlight and HKM ( not shown ) are magnitized for wysiwyg.
Some Display tank traps
Concrete Barriers ( 10 in total)
And What Tech priest would do without Power…
I have another Chimera to do and about 20 Penal trooper and 20 regulars. I have a couple of wrecked vechicles to do ( have to decide on chapter color ) with lights and smoke effects... Then I’ll be covered in modeling paste and painting.

Very nice job Solar. I do have a question though. Are we allowed to have models on display that aren't part of our actual game armies? I don't think I saw a single display that had "extras" on the board. Then again, there aren't really any rules for displays are there. I guess I never thought about it. Yeah I saw several.. A GK fighting deamons display and if you remember the DE guys with the really nice painted Lamenters ( with spears and greek helms ). We should have enough other material ( such as the book ect ) to highlight the playable armies. Also remember the winner the previous year.. the seige of terra.. I sure the nobody was playing the Emperor!
I'm havent figured out how many to do. Roughly a box of inf of each Cadians and a Inf box of Penal guys ( jungle figher figures ) They will be used in the Wardens MOAB as the IG neutral forces on Friday night ( the night Huron leads us to victory !) The gun enplacments are for that battle as well! Automatically Appended Next Post:

Ok.. some more images of the items for the display .
Pictures aren't great but you can hopefully see where I was going. They look great in person. Still need to do the bases
The Reaper PDF.. I went for a Medieval/ police feel with shiny helms and armor. Regiment from the moon of Aksuna .
As they are based on a SM chapter planet thus they are strict beyond measure. Even minor Infractions can land you in one of the many Penal companies. Need to dry brush the boots and finish the bases.
In between the figure painting I started working on some more of the extras( in additon to the other stuff on the previous page) going into the display ( mostly on the loyalist side )
Primed black
Some Items Base colors…needs weathering.
For scale…

Don't be impressed it was a quick FoW smoke I bought at AC last year. I was trying to see if it would work with the flickering light inside the tanks. When I get them finished I'll spend some time getting the right mix of colors. Still looks appropriate to do for the display.

Overview shots…

Looking from the breaches…
Here comes the Marines…
Blurry … sorry. Burning Lamenter Rhino (now with lights!)
Advance to the first obstacle - Thought the metal tank barriers came out nice and wethered! ( at leas they photographed well! )
Next Objective – take the bunkers!!!
Hope you have enjoyed the show!
Sill lot of painting to do. Mostly High lighting and details, talos and flora, scaffolding, armor plating of the bunker walls, finish the outer wall! there is also a lot of other items missing ... sandbags and barrels ect... My plan is to be completely done by the end of month so I can get to the Loyalist side!

Still alot of work to do and lots of details to add!
What will that be you ask.. ( ok you didn't ) but I'll tell you anyway!
Plans on the outerwall having some scaffolding and Platforms for some Quad gun like AA.
The roadways between the bunkers will have the start of some road works( which eventually is an entrance to the Loyalist display board) . The sides of those entrances will be lined with plates and beams ( to hold the material from spilling into the road) .
Sandbags lining the base of the bunkers. Sandbags and crates as barriers next to the bunkers. Imperial painting on the inner and outer walls!
Then on to the Loyalist section!
I'm trying to determine if the entrances need some sort of gate or door? Thoughts?

Weekend Update.
Some more work on the Secessionist side of the display.
Quad guns for main outer wall - Will clean up the barrels!
AA Wall Gun Line…
Newly Painted crater markers..
Display Extras
Overall Display progress
Added gravel – will be painted/blended to match the base color.
Added the AA platforms and finished the Outer wall
The plating to the back wall ( leads to the loyalist display ) – for some reason the plating came out much more blue than reality.

Rough in…
Access tunnel ( this will be facing the judges – unlike last year’s stealer hole which I’m not sure got seen)
Now with lights..
For Fun I decided to see how well the layout worked by putting some of the extras on the board.. Not sure I’ll use them all ( the walkway for instance) but you can hopefully see where I’m going with this…
Main staging platform gets some detail
Starting to connect the 2 Displays together… To the right is the Loyalist board, the left the Secessionists. The Gaps in the left wall are the openings from the secessionist board.
For scale. Looking from the back of the board towards the front.
The joining test… Lot still need to be glued down. Stuff that will need to be further painted ect.
Combined display shots…
The back platform is for the Ord. ( which will sit an additonal 18 in. in height) the walled section to the left is for the FoR ( which will sit an additional 14 IN. in height. ( again not all the floors have been glued down - Many need work and a lot of washing/ weathering to do )
The second to the last arch At the back ) is reduced in height and will have a walkway ( spotter? sniper? )
DA tower.. very rough at this stage…
Side look w/tunnel
Overall look
“ That is the dirtiest bathroom ever, Hey where is the bus?”
As always comments welcome.

AA taken care of.
Landing pad? Might use that open section for that! Have to remember that there need to be space for the 4 armies worth of figures ( per side - we have close to 180 on the secessionist board alone) and the loyalist have all those extra's I've been painting .
The Secessionist board has all sorts of obstacles , tank traps, PDF finest and those turret's bunkers.
I need to see about my old Servitors!

Finally got to my home computer so that I can take a good look at it (my phone doesn't do it justice). That's an amazing piece of work SL. The fact that you're putting together the displays for BOTH teams and doing it with such flair is really impressive.
I love the way the tunnel looks. Lit or not... it looks terrific both ways. It's awfully dark in there though. I wonder if you couldn't put something like drainage grates along the edges on top that would act as skylights to brighten it up a bit. Either that or you'll have to choose what goes in it carefully so it's as visible as possible.
The painting on the concrete surfaces is fantastic! Did you make your own stencils??
Our armies are going to look SO GOOD on that... thanks for all your work SL. Wow.
P.S. That whole thing looks big enough to play a game on...

Certainly looks excellent indeed Can I make a suggestion? Add some brass rods of various thickness protruding from the vertical edges that don't quite line up, rather than, say smoothing them off; will give the impression of supports and shoring. Does that make sense? I'm thinking particularly of the gap to the left of the tunnel. Another idea might be a large bore plastruct tube with lots of small gauge tubing and wiring emerging, like a info/energy conduit.
Of course you could actually take a bunch of optical fibres and do that too

I havent finished any of the side edges. They will be smoothed out. the gaps are part of the construction to...
A. use less material ( creating a framework rather than a solid mass of foam).
B. Add less weight as possible
C. The Gaps build in some flexability to the structure ( nothing ruins your day than a cracked display during transport)
inmygravenimage wrote:Another idea might be a large bore plastruct tube with lots of small gauge tubing and wiring emerging, like a info/energy conduit.
That actually is a good idea as it is the side we will be presenting to the judges, Add some additional little details. Maybe bore out that section and pipe it and add my trademark genestealer.. Hummm
IceAngel wrote:Whats the plan for that tower? Are you going to have room for people on top? You said DA tower, is it going to be like the fortress of redemption?
No that was Ork speak Da ( the ). Originally I planned to do a crane, but building one now seems out of scope due to time. Most likely I'll do an Observation tower. It should be at minimum the size of the bunkers on the secessionist board. Might be a good spot for a sniper? It will be plated to blend in with the rest of the aesthetic design elements ( functional but somewhat crude - think bunkers)
Man... I've cut a lot of rivits for this display!

Hardware cloth is (I think), a fine wire mesh and would be a good stand-alone grating material. The stuff I found was actually a kind of soft plastic mesh and would need to be backed by something else (in this case, thin, clear plastic sheet).
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
I was thinking more metal grate . Heavy duty. I think that the would be better for say fencing.
I might be able to do something with plastic rods. Still hav many other maor things to do prior.

Worked on getting the command squad built. The Bikers are not attached which will allow me to paint the hard to reach areas on the bike itself.
I used the normal Marine bikes for the 2 normal guys and bits and peices from the ravenwing box set. I initially wanted to not use the wing coweling but it became to time consuming to modify for the Plasm talons.
I also cut the banner bearer arm from the banner and used it for one of the corvus hammer guys. It's a nice bionic arm and needed to be used. I'll never use the banner unless I but it on a chao's or ork display. Hopefully you can see it on the far right biker.

Sheesh, and here I thought I got some work done this weekend! You must not sleep.
It's all looking fantastic, SL. The board is amazing. I really like the color of the ground and the rubble. The inclusion of bunkers and gun emplaces really brings it to life. I can't wait to see it with figures on it. Speaking of... you should take a picture with some Lamenters on it.
The bikers are looking good. Nice job on the hammers in particular. I like the lightning effect. I also really like the black and white feathers on the Librarian. That's a really nice touch, to match the feathers with the check pattern. I'm not sure about the red and white on the Apoth, though. I get what you're going for, but it seems a little to stark next to the yellow. Maybe if you tone it down a little, make it more bone and blood? I'm not sure. The rest of the paint job is looking nice, though.

Finally got around to painting my tape Measure. I did this to make mine unique so it doesn’t get confused with all the others at Adepticon. Nothing fancy but should be distinguishable.
While I had time on my hands ( display done , Army done ect ) I bought a used Storm Talon and since I have several already ( this one was painted poorly and glue together even worse ) So I decided to make a Terrain piece out of it.
Downed Lamenter Storm talon ( will go on the Loyalist display) The interior is lit so it flickers.
As soon as the oil weathering dries I'll paint the bleeding heart on the tail.

You know, I just tore apart two kinda screwed up Mk-1 Predators for parts (I'm going to build a fresh hull and magnetize the whole thing). That leaves me with two chewed on rhino chassis. Counts as wrecked. I have a blast maker for destroyed!
As for the smoke. I'm never sure on what amount is good. Too much and it overwelms, too little and it looks like it shouldn't be there. Also I could have used a whiter and red mix. Might look more on fire rather than a Internal fire in the cockpit. I wanted it to look like it just fell and impacted rather than caught fire and was a blaze! Thoughts?

Ok .. yes its been a while.. but things are progressing along but in a totally different direction. I'm still working on my Lamenters but only to the point of finishing up on all the incomplete projects. Several Drop Pods, Dreads and all the pieces to make multiple vehicle out of the exsisting ones.
Though that being said, my teammates have decided on going Xenos for Adepticon and we are slowly working on what theme and Armies we wanted to field next Year. I have several Armies at my disposal; Necrons, Orks, some tau, IG and Chaos.
I decided to go Necrons as I had most of all the models and more that I need. They represented a easier challenge (so I thought) to the speed of which I could paint them. Getting a cool looking theme was going to be the hardest part. So many cool designs already.
On a side note I have a little more free time in the evenings for about a month so I was hoping to get the bulk of this finished sooner than later.
What I have.
4 Necron Lords ( 3 come from the barge box set )
24 Warriors
3 Wraiths
5 Deathmarks
5 Immortals
1 Stalker
3 Night scythes/Doom scythes
2 Spyders
10 bases of Scarabs
10Prateorians ( 5 will be each loadout )
3 Barges
3 Destroyers
1 cryptek
My plan is to do all the priming and basecoating at the same time. Develop my overall them on one of the scythes ( their large surface will serve as a good pallet to try things on) and translate into the other models ( Adepticon list being the priority )
Start assembling, priming and basecoating. Took me a week. Luckly I have a decent size shop and can (and do ) spread out on the work table. All these shots were from my phone so they are not as sharp as in real life . I'll use the good camera for final shots.
My overall base theme
lot of painting prior to assembly.
Some details added
Not on my list but I love this model!
As always your comments / suggestions and critique is encouraged and appreciated!

Skullcrons would be better.
Clean for now! weathering would be nice but would take additional time I may not have in the near future.
So question.. do you think there needs to be some color ( on the NS) inbetween the wing panels or would that make it too busy?

Looking good Solar. The blend on the orange control....thing... Looks awesome and serves as a real nice focal point. Think you made good call on the spaces between the wing panels. Are you going for any highlights?
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Thanks Graven, DrH, CL and San. Thanks for the comments!
No.. it's done at a decent table top quality. I don't want to do more highlighting or outlining for fear of making it look to busy. I don't have the hand control to do it well without risking making it worse.
There is a different color coming of the wing, out of the main fusulage. The wing goes from black to dk. grey; that is not translating well in the photo. I now believe when it come to thansition blending on vechicles you have to go further in color than you think to get the effect to look right.
Besides I have only 36 more days to finish! So moving on to the other 2.
62749
Post by: Dr H
Yeah, I found while practising the transition for my WS, that for a large area the extremes of the transition need to be really different to show up. Otherwise the effect is too subtle, especially for photos. It's not as much of a problem on smaller models because the gradient of the transition is larger over a short distance.
But it looks good.
and 36 days! Good luck, keep at it.

Thanks for the feed back. One of the hardest things for me is theme. I'm usually a go at it rather than Painting plan kinda guy. So much easier to paint Marines since most of the themes are already set, I cringe when I think about doing my Nid army...

I quite like it. Its simple, but very effective.
II like how you tied the gold circles on top to the weapons and metal details, and it does help to break up the flat surfaces of black.
Excellent job on the recessed green panel lines, too. They look really sharp!
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Thanks brother...Actually it Val. bronze. I didn't expect it to come out so gold , but it does give it a more " royal" look.
I'm liking the balance. Originally all the white area were to be the bronze/gold. But after priming white it's look grew on me. I'm glad I didn't as it would look too metalic then.
The recesses were the easiest part, thou the most time consuming. I watered down the Scorpion green and let the paint flow into the cracks.; then wipe off the overflow. Since it was mostly water it barely left a mark on the upper surface.
I had to do this 5-6 times to get the color saturation I wanted to, but I just moved to the other planes while drying. Even when applying in the middle gravity pulled it into the recess.

Thanks. Welcome back Gits.
Though I feel the design is good I didn't push it very far. Based on some comments I'm now considering re-painting.
Thinking going from a black wing tip fading to the white fuslage.

Kinda held off making any progress this weekend in order to finish Briancj's terrain comp. Check out his blog to take a look at my entry. ( won't re-post here. Go and give your opinions on all the great entries)
More updates this week on the 2 remaining flyers.

Actually everything for this army was painted at the same time. Meaning all the priming, basecoating are all done. it's my 30 day assembly line project. Now its detailing all the different parts ( mostly before assembly) that takes up the hours.
And really if I painted my guys to your standard I'd probably go insane or take up MtG .. ( wait same thing!)
Talk about hard to impress....sigh!
And here I thought you would have fleshy legs .. who knew! Thanks darlin Dee.. no I'm good. I have way more warriors than I plan to field! This is not my main army just part of the game collection.

Thanks Theo.. I almost went with blue instead of the green. Originally was going to be orange but then I added the white to the theme and thought it would look to strange. I stayed with green cause I wouldn't have to buy new rods.( thou I might paint the ones I have now to match the rest of the weapons.Hummmmmm! )
I've decided to paint the pilot control orb a different color so to be able to identify which units are transported in which fliers. Orange , Red(ish), Blue.

Think it looks better without the "disks" painted in gold, but kept black...
Yeah, I know, already told that... But now those pics just PROVE what was just a hunch

Yggs... I appreciate all the comments… Theme is difficult for me. Sometimes a simple change makes of breaks a piece no matter how well executed or intended. So keep questioning. That just goes to prove your critically thinking. Believe me when I say I need it!
I either go too far or not enough… You guys are good for picking out and pointing out flaws, opportunities, as well as stuff well done. I have little to no ego! Mucho Appreciated my friend!
I'm no Graven....(thou with enough surgeries, massive amounts of testosterone, a million fanatical followers a direct link to the spirit world and cake? - Hummm)
