If that's an Alpha Legion tank it should be camoflaged with a drawing of a school bus on the side of it. Otherwise everything is looking sweet. One year I'll show up to adepticon.

You totally should... there is so much to do!
Truly. though I could have painted it as any other chapter during the HH and passed it off as AL. Actually the rules allow me to field other chapters units. How cool is that!
I actually might re-do the blue on the tank. I came off a bit more splashy in the wash phase. Might try using the AB to see if I can get a better effect.
Thanks everyone .. especially YB.. who is rumored to re-appear on Dakka with a new army project!! ( Gauntlet thrown )
I'll try to finish the Basing projects this week. Leaving the weekend for me to get all my stuffed packed and rule / list printed. Car need cleaning and prepping for Chauffeuring Gits and Son to Event. ( Rituals and offerings and all the celebrity adornments).
I'll probably not bring my Necrons this year ( usually I like to battle Thing 1's Dynasty for overall control of the universe ) as I don't think I'll have the time to play an additional army with all the events I'm in and Helping Ritides with the great and useful Modcubes.
Hopefully there will be a good FW event only model ( 40K).
8 days before I leave for AC.

Yellowbeard active on Dakka?! Madness!
I don't think there has been any news on a new FW event model. I think it is currently still the AL preator, IW preator and Titan Priest.

Post by: Solar_lion
Bummer...
We'll if not new event only FW model then I'll hope for a decent Swag bag!
2nd Stage of basing done ( Glue wash ). With a freak snow storm blowing in tonight and tomorrow ( 8 to 14 in ). I may get a day at home. I'm bringing 2 MM /HF dreads to my list and they are looking a little un-impressive, so I may touch them up a bit.
7 days left...

Post by: whalemusic360
Do you have both Preators already? They are both great, and don't have an chapter markings that really lock them in as a certain legion. Could even make them Lamenters.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
No.. but they look like a must buy for the AL for sure. I'll get something special from FW for sure. Last year it was a Dreadonaught ( Ramos and I got it at the same time - Looks like hes ahead of me now)
I have some HH books to get and most likely the new legion rules book. I think last year I dropped 4 notes on FW stuff.
I wouldn't do them as Lamenters. I'm just about lamenter'd full for units ( purchased). AL (30K) will probably be my next purchasing venture. Not that I wanted to go Traitor legion; I was looking forward to ( and still am ) the BA addition to the series. But... I needed to pick something HH for the Adepticon games this year and so I went with AL. So I'll use them in my CSM 40k army and i'll be ahead of the game.

Post by: whalemusic360
That's fair. The Iron Warriors guy is worthwhile as well. He will be my standard bearer for my 30k army, and has tons of other conversion merits. Gits is using him as his HQ even.

YB and I will split a 2nd BoC box. I'm looking for some more normal marines and maybe the termies. He can have the rest ( I don't need another contemptor dread and the game itself) I have 5 more AL in the works. Might be able to finish them off this weekend. I really need to get a list of what I want in my 30K list.
Nothing to do but shovel and go to work with the 2 day blizzard. I need to start a wish list for FW at Adepticon. I'll check out the IW selection.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Why are you splitting a box with YB? You're just going to end up painting the figures yourself anyway!
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Nope.. I believe that's finished. I think his next project is more akin to the ruinous powers and I cannot for fear of my soul.
On an Adepticon note.. Usually we do a separate thread for the event. Usually that involves us playing in the team tourney. Though we have opted out of this for a second year in a row I'l still gonna try and get as many pictures of the event as possible. I'll probably be posting them on this blog so stay tuned.

Finished all the basing. Re-did my list as I was over points. No changes to the actual figures though. I managed to get 5 more AL done. 2 bolter marines and 2 Hvy bolters. 1 Sqt with Plasma pistol and Power Sword.
Printed off my Badab 1000 pt ZM, 1850 Gladius, and 2000 pt Apoc lists. I'll have to manually print up my two 500 HH AL lists as I'm not able to do it in Army Builder. Should be easy to do, it's only 500 pt games.
Dreads touched up. Everything packed except for a single drop pod and the Imperial Knight. I even started to clean my workroom,,,,go figure.
Now to get through the next few days...

U too my friend.
So let me start off by saying it was a great gaming event. When I say great I mean there was the best of company, The events I played in were all very fun and enjoyable. The Terrain this year was particularly good and varied. the open tables were readily available. All the people I meet were folks I'd liek to game with anytime. The rooms were very nice ( TV in tne bathroom, beds comfy and the hall was room and I didn't feel like cattle when moving around.
The only downside was the cost of the food at the hotel. Way over priced for what you got. The Elevators were slow, but there was costumed women my buddy had to take a picture with every one; so he was happy.
I have a lot of pictures .Unfortunately My good camera crapped out in the middle of day two and I had to use my camera phone. We made some new Wardens and I call for an official reunion in 2017. The first day was the Badab event. The TO was great and the boards were very nice to play on. I won the first. lost the second and tied the third. The all day Apoc game was great as well and the full gamete of rules and old world Apoc shenanigans were played out. The secessionist won the game by a close two points. The ZM game was a blast. Even better it was a 30k HH event. Nothing better than Marines on Marines. Very little codex power creep made it a fun game of strategy and luck. I can't say enough about the organizers, they put on a good show.
Adepticon cavalcade of pictures.
Ok let’s start with some of the other cool things… and not my stuff.
Cool Ork Vs. Imperium.. Very cool and busy display including a looted Tesseract Arc for the weird boy and a looted Imperial knight.
Titan only battle. Got a couple of shots as I was walking by…
Here is a couple of pics I took at the larger ZM boards…
And last teaser for the day.. a cool game I really wanted to demo that I got no chance to do. I might have bought it unplayed if I had some opponents that I knew in my area. The figures were amazing and they also had cool mythological beasts to add something than just the historical aspect. ( though I would love just the Historical by itself. ) Arena Rex…
Tomorrow I’ll show you a large Apoc game with wall to wall figures, awesome terrain and loads of non-titan heavy war machines.

Next some pics for the Badab 1850 Tourney terrain. It truly ran the gamut for very open to very dense.
Obviously an attacker and defender scenario.
Zone Mortalis boards. These really show how easy it is to make a board using common items and still look great.
One of the toughest board to play on due to an immense sight blocking terrain
This was the 2vs2 table
More of a traditional tables, though still more terrain than most of the team tourney tables.
Great use of aquarium plants for a nice jungle look.
As promised. Here is a Apoc game that was going on next to us. Very cool and jam packed table. The pics are in the early stages of the game.
I imagine there was much carnage to follow…

Post by: Gitsplitta
I played on the city table and the jungle table with the red base. Both were quite interesting and challenging. The city table (with the modern buildings, not the ruins) was really challenging because of the oblique nature of the fire lanes. Loved it!

Been a good month for gaming.. Getting ready for Adepticon, starting a new AL army. Managed to get in some shopping and some stuff on order.
Here’s what coming…
2 Valkyries for my Tempests. I really dislike the Taurox so I needed something useful to move them around.
Lots of AL stuff from forge world. Books 5 & 6 of the HH series. The new Age of Darkness book. Several boxes of weapons, MkIII techmarine, AL transfer sheet, AL shoulders. The 2 Praetors minis.
More Terrain. Two tall Marine towers with cool boarding doors. I got in the full Kickstarter for ‘ Rapid Vanguard’ Death ray designs, plus I added the foundry and several add on like the comms and relay towers. Some more craters from the guy who made my original set. A cool looking heat vent piece to add to all my loose pieces.
10 wooded bases, 10 scifi bases. Box of Hordes from my swag bag. 8 shipping containers.
Now off to work on the ‘Portal ‘ comp. this weekend. Very little time to start and finish on time.

Thanks for sharing, some amazing things on display, lots of inspiration.
Always amazes me how we all interpret things so differently. And it also gets me how there are fashions/trends, I am seeing a lot of candy here, bright vibrant colours, lots of big stuff, all great.
I know people have been airbrushing forever, but it seems to be much more common now, it shows in a lot of what you have shown so far.
They are all fantastic, not as good as yellow with checkers.

Almost every army you'll see has it's mathematically designed powerlist. All that except Orks, CSM or SoB. This is a tourney after all. You get a mix of competitive players and fluff players. In my experience you see a lot more powerlists than in years past and has been one of the reasons the Wardens ( our group ) has opted out in favor of more themed events. You can judge for yourself based on the pictures..

Not a real battle report but I did manage to take a lot of pictures of the first game at least. The first round I got selected to do a 2vs2 battle with a Astral Claws player vs. 2 Salamanders player.
Here is our starting positions. There were objectives in the buildings of which our 5 scouts squads adequately covered. As you can see the LoS blocking terrain was large and made it difficult for us to use our snipers.
First turn Drop pods
His vet squad keeping him busy in the backfield
They bolster their Line with some nicely painted special honor guard Salamander unit.
Drop pod dread in our deployment zone while we start slowly shooting each other up.
The Lamenters tac squads deploy to deal with it.
Flyers arrive and start clearing the right side.
To be continued…

Post by: Gitsplitta
I thought that was a really interesting table to play on. The firing lanes were really challenging and forced some outside the box thinking on both sides.

More from my 1st game at Adepticon. The Badab campaign.
Big fight in their back field… Note both my assault squads mishap and are placed in the corner with no cover. Least to say they were both destroyed before making any impact.
Same thing in my backfield.
Fighting everywhere
We win the game. I really have to learn to play more aggressively. But not this day…
Game 2.. Only got to 2 turns. Here is a shot of the top of turn 1. Lost primary, won Secondary.
Game 3
Ended up playing on of the guys I played in the first game. Lost both Primary and secondary.
Here I suffered from complete dice failure. The tall building were cool to look at but terrible for LoS. With all the units hugging the buildings you were in you never got a target. So my scouts accounted for no Kills all game.
Bonus picture.. on my last game next to us was to be the two medal winners fighting it out.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Next up the Badab Apoc game. We secessionists or the ‘Oppressed’ as we were called were short players so we Drafted Ramos to our cause. He managed to cobble together close to enough points and away we went.
Here is what we faced.
Here is what we started with…
Both of the group had multiple stratagems and special rules. Our wall prevented flyers from passing over. They had a titan with multiple Apoc blast templates that ignored LoS. Sucks to be us.
I won’t give you a play by play as there was too much going on. So you’ll get my witty comments instead.
Backfield ruins with objective
Good luck getting to the titan…
Tip of the spear … Black Templars?
But still when we should be concerned about our chances.. it was like some benevolent being was watching over us.

As promised .. The continued APOC battle….
A pain in our …side
Their flyers rush in, then our flyers rush after them…
With good results.
Still need to get that titan.. we managed to take quite a few Hull points off it but just couldn’t bring it down. It manages to pie plate all my Lamenter Units behind the wall. thanks for playing!
Here is a Princeps view of the battle…
So we use the tunnel strategy and throw all sorts of melta gun inf along with some heavy melta drop podded squads at it.
While the fight continues in the ruins over the far objective.
Gits tranquility Autocannon dread surveys the battle from the wall.
Then the Mighty wall which has a electric field for protection, multiple layers 100’s of feet thick of steel and concrete reinforced and laden with guns that which the loyalist had to throw everything it, shells titan weapons, orbital bombardments in an attempt to get at Huron fell to …..
Lone Assault Marine with a Melta bomb..
WTFlagnar. Soon the rush is on when the loyalist play their Statagem.. a large portion of their destroyed units return to the battle.
The inquisition and it’s infernal Death cults rush the opening. Our Flyers move inside the wall to deny them a chance to deploy within our wall.
Last effort to push us off the objective in the back. MW stubborn drop pod refuses to die!
Titan final is destroyed and takes a lot of our inf with it.
They rush the breaches
Thought no other pis of the battle, the loyalist did manage to get in the breach closest to the gate, where Huron and his guard jammed the gap. Fierce fighting ensured and it came down to a final save to determine if Huron would live and secure our main objective.. it was to be so. The game was close at the end. The secessionist won by a mere 2 points.
Very fun game and was always something turning the table back and forth. Understandably we were on the defensive and destoyed way more points than we lost. With the titan out of range of most of out weapons we had little choice but to go after it. It was single handily winning the game. The reemergence of the destroyed loyalist forces made it possible for them to win. They in general started with too many of their forces in the ruins and weren’t able to capitalize on the breaches when the occurred. With all the LR they hard they could have weathered the storm and help reduce the resistance allowing the titan to concentrate more on the wall. We also suffered from several turns where the dice were not cooperating. With all the melta sot we put forth on the titan it took two turn at close range when mathematically it should have gone on the initial drop.
We did do a good job of taking out their flyers as well as keeping units alive in the ruins to threaten the objective. This keep a portion of their troops from getting forward where they could of added their firepower to clear the breaches and wall.
Special note to the lone scout survivor in the creator who fought off a squad od jumppack Raven Guard and lived. You can sse him in the last picture.
I’ll go through my camera and see if I have any more… In the meantime go to Git’s blog and chime in…

My tranquility dread had a really good day. Just about every turn he was taking out a transport, flyer, skimmer or some such. Nice to see him do well... he's usually an "also-ran" in most of the battles I've fielded him.
It was a very fun game. We sacrificed a TON of stuff trying to secure the rearward objective in the city. I thought it was a total waste of points, but in the end it was pivotal... not only because we finally took the objective, but because it made them delay the use of one of their most important gambits unit it was too late (they needed one more turn to be able to breach the right side of our wall in force).

Fantastic stuff Solar. I think we needed some orange striped Tiger Claws in there. Did anyone have any Executioners?

Post by: Solar_lion
Thanks, I thought that we did a better job of controlling the battle. Naturally Its easier when defending, but our options of deployment was limited and they had multiple options. Deploying so much in the back takes time to get assets to the main objective. Allowing the rear units to get tied up over a low point objective wasn't the best use of their forces; and with the titan adsorbing alot of our firepower I think I would have gone more aggressively. This allowed more of our central forces to concentrate on fewer units. Even with all the LR they took a lot of turns getting to the wall.
Ice,,, Sadly their were no Tiger Claws or Executioners. There were nicely painted Astral Claws and about 70% of the armies were Badab Themed. The Templar's and Raven guard .. we'll it's all in fun.
Good game, The TO ran the Titan so the loyalist could focus on their own armies. The Terrain was great and presented it's own challenges. I think the scenario worked though I thought the wall should be a bit bigger thus presenting a more 'Castle' battle instead of a open field in front of the wall. but in reality it worked as it game down to the final die throw!
I'd definitely do this again.

Post by: Gitsplitta
That wasn't a low point objective. It was worth as much as the objectives behind our wall.
15297
Post by: Ramos Asura
Yup. And it also played a role in our win- The team in back almost forgot it was there. The single drop pod was holding/contesting the objective and prevented them from grabbing more points
Was a very very fun game, though. Absolutely loved playing with you guys. next year I hope he does a similar event. Ill have to try to bring something a little more substantial!

I talked with the TO. He plans at this point to do another event, but probably not Badab War but based on another narrative battle from the IA books.

I was comparing it to Killing Huron which was worth I believe more. Not Objective vs Objective. Sorry I wasn't clear.
Cool doing a Badab event though. It was nice to be able to participate in an event my obscure chapter actually played a role in. Even if it was short lived.
The TO did a great job. And I would definitely look at participating in something he put together.

You can let him know I'd be happy to be on Titan duty. I don't get to use the Warhound very often, I'm sure the Warlord even less so.

Sounds like the Titan and reinforcements were the only thing that made it even close.
I do own another Titan you know. It's finished and everything.

Post by: Solar_lion
IMO It should not have been. Our strategy was limited as the defender. Mainly to slow down and deplete the attacking forces ability to get to and through the wall. In the game I think they should of had a more powerful push in the beginning rather than try to slowly wear us down. Secondly was failure to keep secure their biggest threat.. the Titan. We dropped a lot of guys around it making it only a matter of time before we took it out, I think ideally if they forced us to defend a breach ( as in the last turn) instead of us the option to Sallie forth in to their rear objectives it might have gone differently. The Titan weapons could have cleared that breach of defenders in a turn.
In essence ( and my experience ) controlling the fight is key to victory oh.... and not letting me roll dice.
Oh well next year!

How time passes on... Been unable to get to anything due to work and farm and work; but in the last two days I've bee trying to jump start myself by assembling my 4 Imperial knights, 2 of them the Original and 2 the new kit. I've Magnetized all the weapon options and had to fix some poor assembly on my part, but they are all together. I've base coated the frames and started detailing one one of them with brass and gold bits areas. I should be able to field at least 2 of any versions and 4 of the original 2 types. I'd like to pick up some more additional carapace weapon systems to make it complete,
On then new toy side I got more HH bits and will be adding to my Alpha legion model count. I also picked up 2 Valkyries for my Sicons as I dislike the Tauroxs. Not sure how I'll load them out yet ans I only have the 2 squads of troops. I thought they be fun to add to my Marines to make for a different kind of game.
AND .. for the big news .. I got a Reaver titan. Was looking someday to get a warhound but a good opportunity dropped in my lap so I jumped. I haven't unpacked it fully yet and will probably only do so when I'm ready to tackle it. Another thing off my bucket list as well as wondering when and if it'll be ever used. At least I can put it in my will. Now who to leave it to?
Still a busy summer and progress will be slow but it re energizes me to keep plugging away.
Cheers.

You need to provide me with some learnings. Initially building/glueing and magnitizing. I'll get to painting questions later.
Thanks Cam.. though the initial theme for the Reaver will be in the black and white of the Badab legions. The Warhound Ramos did for WM is the standard, though I'll paint it myself. Currently I don't believe the tyrant had any Titans on the Secessionist side.
We'll see when the time comes. Ive decided my Princeps will be Gaston Bonniville Dela Croix Though the Titan name will most likly come from the The Legio Crucius (Warmongers) Legion. Either Astramos Mortis Æternem or Primus Secutar.

Yeah I'd love to get it started. The Imperial knights are first. I'm itching to mix up my game list a bit. As for the amount of stuff to do ...it's over flowing with projects, I have a wall of stuff to work on and assemble. I'd actually like to get in more actual games. but the community here is small. I'll try to get a WIP pic so I don't bore everyone with just my ramblings.
My real life work has increased and it will be hit and miss. In the mean time you all can keep our close Dakka circle going!

In support of the Knights I'm putting together a couple of squads of Militarum Tempestus. A command squad and a 10 man Scion Squad, Both with Valkyries or Tauroxs. Build in progress.

yep. Both of them for sure.
Nope they come that way. I'll get the recesses a bit darker with a wash and then highlight the red a bit brighter with some orange/ red mix.

I can bare that burden. I think it breaks up the model quite a bit. I have really learned a lot about washing and re-highlighting metallics with the knights. it was good to have a test model (the one I made for Cleansing Flame)
These I'm trying something different. The bottom will all be black so I'll have to do a bunch of dry brushing to pull out the lines.

Hello there SL. I've been lurking here for a while and I just wanted to say I love your Lamenters. The Adepticon badab war missions looked like a lot of fun to play. The city fighting game with the huge buildings looked really interesting. It's not often you get huge buildings like that. So to me it looks like you need to actually set up fire lanes and kill zones not just the normal 40k game " run forward faster I want to hit them with my sword".
My friend and I are going to be making terrain soon for our 30k games. I've been thinking of making big buildings like that and I just want to know what you thought of them and the game.

Yeah .. I don't have any red painted armies. I try to keep all my different army collections in a separate color. Yellow for the Lamenters, White for my Eldar, Rust for my orks and Black for my Necrons. So Red was available. Plus I like the red and gold look. Was tempted to do purple and gold but red won out. I wanted to add some different elements to my Marines so thought they'd be a good change as a allied force.

Thanks FGM.. My Lamenters are my main armie. Funny now looking back how much my painting has changed. You can only do that in big collections where you won't go back and re-paint cause there is too much to do. Adepticon is a great time. Lots of games of all types. The Badab was a great opportunity to actually field the chapter in the right setting with other chapters that took part. Good time.
I'm a more terrain kinda guy. I guess It's from getting destroyed by IG armies in my day and Tau in today's meta. Besides its a 3D game. having cool looking terrain makes it come to life. My personal terrain collection is growing though I rarely have folks to the house to play. But if they do, I'm ready!
I've just started an Alpha Legion Army for 30k. I love the rules and it seems to be much more balanced than 40k. Terrain can help define the narrative. So your games are not just and open field battle where 2 armies charge at each other. You have to plan strategy and make choices to active victory. . Be interested in what you come up with. Please share.
Knights will be a slow WIP. There is a lot of details I have to do on each one. Now if I only have some free time. Stay tuned and than for looking.

Post by: Solar_lion
Thanks. I went with Red as it's a color I don't have an army in yet and it Tempestus. So as Will Smith says in Men in Black " The best of the best of the best, Sir"
They are black underneath with a steel drybrush for definition. I'll definitely need to put some markings or transfers to make them look the part. Next up the cockpit and pilots, then on to the weapons ( all magnetized as well. )
Oddly I cannot find the cockpit glass for either of them. Cannot find a replacement on the intranet so I may have to get some clear plastic and build my own. ~sigh~
Though I have all these projects on the table now I'm itchin to get to the titan. Unfortunately off to War next week/Weekend so .. not much progress. Head bashing yes, Painting no.

Finished the first Valkyrie ( with the exception of the canopy as I'm missing the glass.) Also the first of the Imperial knights is almost complete. I still need do a bit more shading and then glue it all together. Had to finish the first one to insure the Theme looked right. I still need to do the base to match my board.
I haven't had any chance to take any pictures since I just got back from War.
Started Cleaning my Reaver Titan. Mold lines and resin washing. This will take some time as there is quite a lot of bits and parts. Waiting on advice from Ramos on how to best make the weapons interchangeable. I have the melta and Volcano cannon on order. I already have the 2 standard Laser arms as well as the carapace missile launcher. I'll probably not get back to this till the fall. Next on the list is to finish the Knights and my 2nd Valkyrie and Tempestus force.
Tonight I have a game with Gits. I brought Necrons as I wanted to try them out against his Demons. To my surprise he brought Orks. I'll get some pics of interesting events.

Probably go with IK with Melta cannon, Avenger cannon and AA gun.

Good game for me last night. I took a IK Crusader. Managed to have Tiggy cast invisibility on him several times. This i admit was cheese.. He was a beast; destroying my opponents Wraithknight in a single turn. Went on turn by turn wiping out the Eldar bikes. At the end my opponent had a single Jet bike and a flyer.
Good list but making him his own little invisible deathstar was too overpowering even if it was legal. Won't be playing him that way again unless I got a WAAC player.
The amount of firepower the Crusader puts out is tremendous. The Tempestus squads were great when they were shooting .. All that AP 3 made short work of the armor of the Eldar troops, good for taking out marine as well. The also suffered for the same reasons poor armor. Without proper LD. expect to lose them to shooting followed by moral failures.

Spot on.. For someone who doesn't play much you nailed it. Orks are at he bottom of the codex creep. Though you can still pull of a win with the right deployment, mission and dice ( luck) its mostly an uphill battle. Unless... your playing other Orks then its a ' Good Scrap'
Thanks for the comments.
nerdfest09 wrote:Knights are looking mighty fine Solar! love the colour combo and is it just me or do they always seem to look better when there's more than one walking death engine?
Sorry no pics. Phone battery was dead..
They make a big impression on the table. They must be dealt with or plan to suffer at your peril. Git brought 4 of them to a game once and we ( 2 vs. 2 battle) lasted only to the bottom of the 2nd turn. In our game It managed to take out a Eldar Wraithknight in a single turn of shooting.
By the way the Mechanicus army you painted for Gits was commented on by some folks watching us play a week or so ago, They said it was the best painted army they had ever seen . Kudos Nerd. Earning praise across the big pond!

So the work continues..
I managed to start on building the Seige Dreads. Magnetizing the weapon arms. So far they can field 2x seige claws w/ MG, a storm cannon, seige dril, or the Grav. weapon. I'll try to get the priming done tonight. ifs so I'll take a pic for proof.
Also my order of Tempestus came in so I'll be working on the builds for them . Hopefully I'll get to AB work on the weekend.

Thanks.. Game yesterday with Gits Admech.. I was tabled... Poned. Admittedly I had a very non-power list., but by the end of the 4th turn I had still failed to kill a single figure.. yes I went the whole game and couldn't remove a model from his list. Ironically he would have destroyed me sooner but I had a 3 shield Void Shield generator that tanked a lot of his first turn shooting. Other wise I'm sure the game would be over by the top of turn 3. My only threat model, My Imperial knight, was downed by haywire and a neutron laser; Afterword I had no units that could reasonably do any damage to most of his units. The canticles really make their units even better. With all the bonuses whey can really put out some hurt.
I hate to say it but I need to start going with the more competitive units and less fun units if I want to even continue playing this game. Well played on his part though at no point did he have to act defensively, where as was all game.
So no hurry on getting the Scions done. After their performance I'm not as interested. Maybe Tau?.
280
Post by: Spacewolverine
I think the Scions could be competitive, just depends on your list and how you run them. I thought the same thing about Orks and the Dread Mob, lost a lot of games at first then started winning and took second at a local tournament.
I think the recycling get started box is really good, possibly two of those formation and a ground assault. Admittedly I would not have a Knight with the scions. Max out Plasma and Melta guns with lascannons on your Valks. I would go all taurox with Missile Launchers instead of the Valks.
Edit: Or a Skitarii get started for 3 Plasma Cavaliers and a Icarus Dune Crawler for AA.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
My combination was a Sm / Scion list with a IK. His high number of 6+ S weaponry along better T and multiple W units just was to hard to whittle down, Especially when you know your units will not survive the return fire.
The scions were just an experiment to do something different than the normal SM lists I run.
280
Post by: Spacewolverine
Scion strengths are ability to deep strike, especially if you take the 2 recycling get started formation. 2 units every turn that if he kills come back to life to deep strike again. It's pretty sick especially for objective games, not so much for kill point games. Put 2 Plasmas with them and 4 Meltas in the Command Squads. Same in your ground assault, Command Squad with 4 melta and rest 2 Plasma. The amount of just AP 3 is insane that you could do. Just have to utilize cover even if dealing against Omnispex and Lumigen.
Sorry a little passionate, it's a army I'm contemplating doing.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Nice Formation , though it would not have changed the outcome. Neither Scion unit was completely destroyed, they both were broken and down to a few figures but had a way to go till they were off the table.
My lists need to b be more powerful.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Though after the last game was kinda turned off by the lackluster performance of the Scions, But I went ahead and finished them this weekend anyway. Both 10 man squads are finished. Also finished one of the Taurox's; though I really dislike the model, mostly cause the thing is tiny and would have trouble fitting 5 guys much less 10 inside of it. Remaining are the 3 figures of the Command squad: the Prime, a meltagun guy and a Medic. Started working on the 2nd Valkyrie as well. Lastly the Commissar.
Might be a game this Thursday, so maybe one more go at using them. If I can get the Commissar and the command squad finished, May try the recycling formation.
Started on some new Terrain for my Local FLGS. Again Basic construction since they will be beat up and abused by the local kids. Always good to have different and interesting options. When we play we like to have a bit more than normal the number of terrain pieces.

Post by: Gitsplitta
Sorry, been busy or I would have said something. In playing around with my AdMech (which is not a war convocation), what I find is that it's quite good against "normally powered" lists... but gets completely crushed by top-tier lists. It's surprisingly flexible owing not only to the units, but to the canticles and the CM version of the same that really change the army's capabilities from turn to turn which greatly affects how you can play it (and makes it difficult for your opponent to play against). That being said... it is, by-and-large... a bunch of rather slow, clanky robots with limited AA & no "native" aircraft available. It is shooty as blazes though, that's for certain.
I think SL's real problem was a really, really bad match up. This, along with the fact that I just couldn't have drawn better maelstrom cards. Match-up can be everything... I played that exact army at a local tournament this weekend. My first game was vs. someone who brought 9 tyranid flyers... 5 tyrants, two crones and two harpies. He mopped the table with me. I had no chance and I knew it before a single model hit the table. My two best guns were blast templates and as such never fired. My only dedicated AA vehicle was (of course) annihilated on turn 1.
The next two games were against "normal" lists... SM & Necron. Both games were very close but in the end I won both by a hair.
I guess what I'm getting at is that it was just a random, bad match-up. SL and I don't compare notes before playing... maybe we should. In this case I brought a decent tournament list and he brought a very light, experimental one. USUALLY he brings God's own arsenal of heavy weapons... so I didn't figure he'd have any problem with my Mechanicus force.
I think if we communicate a little bit before our next game, most of this issue will resolve itself and we can both have a good evening of fun gaming.

Nah.. Your just that good! And I suck. My Baby seal chapter was optimized to look cute and collect money from emotionally concerned College women.
Disclaimer: No actual baby seals were harmed in writing this response. Nor does it imply I dislike or like baby seals or in anyway condone the converting of the seal ideology by Khonification or by emotions ; which are by no means specifically the sole characteristic of college women as being define by women whom are attending college and are emotional about said seals.
No problems. though in truth .. ' God's own Arsenal' is a bit considering the new meta of Grav, scatterbikes D weaponry and spawning Bloodthursters, (notice i didn't use the word Tau!) All good. I've learned my lesson. Where did I put my 5 Wraith-knights?
ps.. all this is Humor.. nobody get their ****** in a twist.. (do people say that anymore?)
Back to painting stuff.... and washing Reaver parts ( Like it wasn't weird already!)

Post by: Gitsplitta
I guess I'm emotionally scarred by the time you brought that deep striking formation with all the grav armed heavy weapons teams that can fire when the pod in....
I dunno... last time you brought the SM version of the war convo with all the free vehicles, and two dev teams. That's a pretty solid build with plenty of heavy and special weapons. I don't run it but I do remember you mentioning how many things in it were bare-bones because of the point value we were playing at. Might be one of those lists that you just set aside unless we're playing a high enough point value game to get the wargear you need to make it really potent.
Next week I'll bring an old-fashioned Mantis Warrior CAD. Something simple and straight-forward with no formation shenanigans.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Yeah the Skyhammer Anil. is a good formation. Though that is one of the two times i played it . think your lack of knowing this formation made it more powerful. Same for me not knowing your mechanicis Army and the Canticle effect.
As for the Gladius formation. More of a learning than a style of play. Still for all the firepower you managed to beat it with pretty much a single demon Prince.
Still this is the new world. So Don't hesitate to bring anything you want. I just need to get with the times and make better choices. Some better dice rolling and cards would help.
I certainly don't want to play a dumb down ( or a ' old fashioned ' ) list so I feel better.. Play what you want. I prefer to be beaten if you can.. I'll figure it out.

Post by: Spacewolverine
I just have to say... Yatzee, had to say it. Bravo on the great post SL. I am the same way, I play what I want because of the rule of cool, though competitive I will figure it out too.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I honestly don't see it and dumbing down. I still like the basic CAD & probably still play it more than any other formation. You get a little bit of everything and have to make your mark by being smart rather than relying on special rules. Besides, my MW have some very nice chapter tactics.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
As Do i, However in today's meta that will mean you are not taking advantage of the opportunities your codex offers.
I don't think uning these formations counts as WAAC anymore, I believe that what was standard in the past is now not the norm. I liken it to SCA calibration. Now it a part of the core game.
Because the formations and benefits they come with are the new norm, they no longer are defined as ' cheese' like some past combinations of figures, abilities and or wargear ( though you still can do the math and intentionally create cheese if you want.) if you want a chance of winning, like it or no you'll have to utilize the new meta. .
Play what you want next week.
Now back to the P&M portion of this blog!
Reaver parts are being cleaned section by section in order for me to keep all the parts together. Still contemplating on the color theme. Still go with the Badab theme or something HH or completely original.
PS.. Git pic of you device!

Cam .. thanks, but the Yellow needs highlighting. Been inspired by Nerds IF formula, Though not using the same method, I am modifying my to see if I can get more pop out of mine. The Whites are just a white grey thy need to be smoothed out and then Highlighted as well.
I may take one of the Relic Dreads and repaint in Pre Heresy World Eaters fro my Marine bud. I've added 20 mkIII guys to his cause, a HH land speeder and a set of FW jetbikes. I also have 30 MkiV guys to fill in on both his WE and my AL. Probably get another Betrayal at Calth box for the Termies.
Git's.. Very clever.. That needs to be a formation!
Whale.. They are what I really think the Dreads should be in 40K . of massive bulk. I have purchased all the weapon load outs for both of the Leviathans. I especially like the Grav Flux bombard and the Melta Lance. The 2nd one will be in AL colors.
Graven.. Thanks.. put a couple siege Drills in its arms and it could very well be.

That dread looks amazing, nice work, painting is great. Model is just scary as heck. It's not the horror, just the size and fire power.
Put that along side a couple lascannon dreads and you are pure fire wall. Though I don't play any more so no real idea, just in my head it looks like a serious killer.

Yeah... a single Leviathan . Requires the larger Dread pod or one of the FW Clawed Drop pods.
I've a second one that I'll be doing in My Alpha Legion colors over the winter. it is not cheap in points, but i bet it's a fun unit to play once in a while.
I'll try and finish up the 2 Lamenters Contemptors ( 1 Normal and 1 Relic ) This week then I will be working on the 2 units of centurions followed by Grav devastators ( some HB thrown in for flexibility) .

Busy Weekend. Got the Dreads done. Both the Normal and Relic Contemptors
My Wifes contribution… of the 4 Dreads
The Actual 4 Dreads
Finished all 4 Knights.. I was just waiting to finish all the armor plates, so really just a quick couple of hours…In pairs…
All 4 together.. some what less detailed at this distance but I think the effect is good; Plus I can check these off the to do list.
Waiting on some basees...
Next I started on updating my blast markers. Didn’t really have a plan and just went for it. I made sure it represented my Lamenters as most of the time it’s my vehicles blowing up.
On to Centurions and Devastators…oh and finish the other blast markers

Post by: JustaerinAtTheWall
I swear, every time someone amazing posts about what they've completed, i feel inadequate, as I struggle to finished a model because of my attention span. Any advice for such an issue? Well done!
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
I too have trouble getting stuff done especially with work , the farm and family. Painting is a stress relief thing for me, so I paint often in small increments.
Don't feel inadequate!.. If I had to compare myself to all the great painters on just dakka, I wouldn't paint at all . Everyone stated new at one time. Just do what YOU can and learn to enjoy it. Not a competition for me.
Advice...
Discipline . I try to get something done every week. Even if its a small bit or work on a new technique.
Make time for yourself. It's my stress relief, so I make time for myself to paint. Usually on the weekend mornings when everyone is asleep ( Early riser for work helps)
Enjoy it.. I paint what I feel like painting. If I'm not enjoying painting this figure I move on to something else. However keep the current projects near and available as you don't want too many half finished projects. I also have multiple armies so I can really go to something completely different.
Look through the PM blogs on Dakka. There are great painters aplenty. Don't look at their work against yours. Instead look at the work as inspiration, Tap their brain for advice.. Practice. They too didn't start out any different than you or I.
Lastly.. Sometimes I just have to force myself to finish something. Power through. Often I find myself actually enjoying the challenge once I get started.
I don't paint at a high level I paint to have a good looking army. There not going to win any awards but they give me a sense of pride when they look good on the table top. That's a win in my book.
Hope this helps...

Thanks, My later yellows is much more mustard than the original stuff. I have too much to do to go back and re-paint the old stuff.
Thanks Master A.. I'm waiting for my Dawn of war Terrain. Once I got these up and painted I'll try taking a pic of the lot.
Thanks IF,, I have been putting them off for a long while, glad I can call these done. The knights I had to finish before Adepticon . We 'Wardens of the Maelstrom" ( our Original team tournament group ) will be getting together to do a IK fight so I need to have extras for the member that don't have one.

Finished the Centurions. I think I’ll go back over the Helmets to see if I can tighten them up a bit. I left off the heavy front waist plates and went for a cleaner look. I cannot find the 2nd box of these guys. Maybe I thought I bought them?
Here is the WIP of the 8 Grav Cannon guys I’m doing. 4 of them are old metal Devs that had the heavy weighted boots. They are a bit static but at least they are getting used. I made a mistake and ordered 6 Grav cannons not realizing they came in sets of 3. So Now I'm set for life on Grav Cannons.
Yes.. that's my army with 18 Grav cannons.. it's only 90 Grav shots per turn,, why the sad face?
I’m still working on the Lamenter Shoulder pad and backpacks.
So on my summer and fall list, here's where I stand to date..
Seige Dread build - DONE
Tempestus Build - DONE
Valkyrie base paint - DONE
Tempestus Base paint - DONE
Finish the remaining 2 knights - DONE
Paint seige Dreds - DONE
Finish 3 Contemptor Dreads including Dreado. _ DONE
Finish Centurions - DONE
Remaining...
Repaint Craters - In Progress
More terrain for my Local FLGS. - In Progress
Start on build for a good friend - 30K World eaters. 30+ Inf. Waiting for additional Figures, BIkes and speaders.
Paint Commasar. _ Incomplete, but built
Start on Reaver Titan Build - Still washing parts
8 Devastators - 2/3rds done.
Lamenter Interceptor - New

Man, you just keep cranking these guys out! Really admire (and envious of) your drive
As ive been pretty much an absentee around these parts, I never got to comment on your stompy robots of doom- Love love LOVE how the purple knights came out. Really striking color scheme.
And your dreads are great. Two of the most pain in the ass colors to paint, and youve pulled them off beautifully. Levi's still one of my favorite minis... The green missiles in the top rack are a weird color choice, but not one I totally dislike.
Some damn ambitious plans to come- Very much looking forward to the reaver especially.

Thanks Brother. No where near Ramos Level but I do my best.
I believe the green missiles are Phosphor related. though I'll have to go check to make sure .
As for the Titan.. Still washing the parts. Problem is that I don't have the instructions so I'm trying to work my way through the pieces.

Thanks Kindly sir. That metallic blue looks is becoming one of my go to colors.

Ramos. Luckily you still have 6 months to get that ME marines in line with the current meta!
Justarein, Yeah I have a lot of old stuff. I started in the Rouge Trader days. Sadly some of those figure aren't even playable anymore due to how they are not legal by the current codex's.
Dr.. Never too late to get the Dr.s comments. In today's meta you have to take what works to be competitive. Not that I have to take all grav. i'm also working on expanding my other Heavy weapons load outs to be at least 4 of each available type. At this point I have ML and grav covered. Next up Hvy Boters and Plasma Cannons.
Next up for the Lamenters is an Interceptor. After that I'll be back into some Terrain building for my Local FLGS. Then as winter arrives I'll be working on the Titan and both the Alpha Legion for myself and the World Eaters for my friend! I have a whole slew of Marine themed Terrain inbound as well.
Still more to order... Dread drop pod, an additional Imperial knight.. More HH figures. The list goes on.....

I think you mean Ramos has 6 months to paint a Warlord Titan. Though sooner would be better.
I think I will have just Salamanders this go around. They work for 30k and 40k, and even Badab themed throw downs. Well, plus giant stompy robots.

Having recently finished painting centurions I have to say yours are boss, I like the cleaner look without the skirts (lets face it thats what they are) and slightly wishing I had done the same now.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Thanks, I had yours at least to set the standard.
I also see I left off the power cables to the Gravs and the Omniscope for the Sgt. . I'll have to go back and fix.
Still working on the Lamenters Chapter badges for the 8 Dev's. I'll probably need a few new Sgts for these guys.

So Solar, am I allowed to bug you in this thread . Where are we taking AdeptiCon Wardens event discussion to, and do I need to abuse my mod powers somehow??
Regarding this:

Wow, I really dig the checker pattern on those Centurions! I do think the helmets need something - almost look a little too "blue" - but that's the only thing that I would have thought needed any tweaking at all. They're lovely
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Thanks for the reminder. I need to do something. Bug away!.
Yeah . My attempt to shade white is too strong. I'll have to tone the helmets down a bit.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
All 8 Grav Devs are done. Shoulders and Packs take forever with all the checkers.
With that eating up most of the time I only got the Interceptor built and primed. I did manage to magnetize the front nose guns but I don't know if I'll do anything other than missiles for the under the wing mounts. Plan is to get it completed this week.
Then on to my Reaver build. I'd like to get it painted before it gets really cold. ( and Nerds Reaver build for Gits and I get overshadowed )
Still watiing on my order for some HH World eaters stuff. I'll yet again start another thread for that project. I'll probably add any new Alpha Legion stuff there as well so I keep this thread for my Lamenters.

SL you are a MACHINE.... and you're building scary stuff.

This Machine is slowing down.. got a ton of stuff to do before the winter sets in and were snowed in eating jerky, root veggies and fighting off the wild critters
Hopefully the weekend brings better weather,
So I can't paint but I can order.. ordered a Cerastaus Atrapous Imperial knight and another 20 MkIII HH marines for the World Eaters

Thanks for all the suggestions.. I might look at getting on of the large HH drop pods for the AL siege Dread. So far It's leaning towards Lamenters.
Still haven't had any time to paint. Only had time to start cleaning up Reaver titan parts. Looking forward to assembly. I'll need to get some Magnets and decide if I want to base her or let her go free standing.
The Month of October should be an exciting month. Lot of stuff on the way in the mail . Xmas in October.
All the death Ray Space Marine Terrain,40 MkIII HH marines. 2 HH Landspeeders, 6 Jetbikes, Dread Pod, HH Atropos Knight, an additional Siege Leviathan Dread ( This one for my friends WE army)
Now I know what WM feels like every month!

I'll put a vote in for the Lamenters. I mean, they kind of need a dready Drop Pod for all the Dreads you've just painted

I have 4 normal drop pods, but they can get consumed fast with Inf. The siege dread can only go in a Dread pod if I want him to stat out in the thick of things. I need to get a game into see how he plays.

Very impressive blog, Solar - it has served as a useful distraction while I've been WFH the last few days
Any chance I could pick your brains on purple, after seeing the rather nice Knights you've done recently? Other than a purple wash (such as Leviathan Purple), what would you recommend as shade/highlight colours?
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
As flattered as I am. the best purple I've seen to date is on Git's Emperors Children. He went the professional route ( Major Tom) to get a stunning royal purple look . I'd start there for sure.
Mine is on the light side..In my uneducated learning's Purple goes either to the 'Red' or 'Blue" Red give you more of a lavender shade and blue give you a plum.
Look at Gits formula (I believe it's in he MW blog ) It truly is a nice effect.
On a side note. I've finished the Interceptor. Though not sold on my design nor did I do a good enough job on some parts, So I have to do some reconstruction before I show it here.
Finished all my craters. just waiting on a sealing coat.
I'll be taking a Hiatus... Due to Family maters. I look forward to catching up on your blogs when I return.

Wish I had half of that shopping list coming, nice haul, be great to see your production over the coming months. Look forward to your take on the titan as well. (going to have to do me a scratch mega gargant to shut you all up...bloomin titans!)
To add to chorus, no worries bud, if you need a break, its cool, hope nothing too heavy going on, not prying. Waiting patiently, might drop some yellow and checkers just to keep the home fires burning. Not saying they will be Spesh Marines mind you!

Thanks to everyone for your kind words.
Graven.. yes ... yes it has! Looks like November is shaping up to be a pretty crappy month as well. Hopefully December will turn around.
So I've been busy and pretty much consumed with things, I have managed to at least get to some gaming stuff. As I mentioned this is my stress relief and I'm trying to make sure I get some.
I have purchased a CERASTUS KNIGHT-ATRAPOS a while back and it finally arrived. I picked up another BoC box ( for my AL) and a Burning of Prospro box. These I will add to the 40 MKIII figures of my friends WE army.
I'm going to scrap together the LasCannons for the 2 LR's I painted in AL color and re-paint them in WE colors. I also got an additional Siege Leviathan Dread that I'll add the to the WE list. . Forgot to order the weapons (though I suppose I will magnetize this one also and use the ones I have if I need to,) Ordered a mess of chain axes and thin'd some GW paint into stopper bottles for my eventual mass production WE project.
In the mean time I'll have the Atropos ( which I'm planning a dark Mettalic body and an Orange armor plates; Hopefully matching my someday Mechanicus army) and the Dread Drop Pod to do. However the next two weeks will be unproductive, but the thought of my Reaver Titan looms in my evil Plans as well. Keep Posting on your blogs . It keeps me going even though I'm not responding.
Thanks again for al your kindness.
