I, honestly, do not like the scheme. I understand the 'black' is a layered fade effect, but it isn't visible. Additionally, the pure white isn't really broken up by anything. Consider using some of the Necron decal transfers to break this up, especially as you already have a gold theme on the wings. Finally, the gold looks like it needs another layer or two. But, again, this might be a camera issue.
Then again, I'm biased by Gits' scheme.

Fair enough! Agreed the layering isn't very vivible . I really didn't push it as far as I should of. There is a whiter highlighting in the white peices that doesn't translate as well .. same issue. The vents do have a green paint in them that can be seen well at the right angle. Good suggestion on the decals - I do have a box of them now! The gold was meant to look a little tarnished. Something to consider altering. Thanks for the good and honest feedback!
Then....thrust to the face!!
You ask me to stand and stare at the sun and expect me not to go blind! How long must I walk in the SHADOWs ( intro women wailing) !

No worries. Not sold on the black disks as It would seem like there is nothing to break up that space. Curious... Do you think they would look better white? Another color? Open to all ... weigh in!

You could heavy edge highlight it all, which would break up the 'panels', and look amazing.
Maybe in whites or pale greens / blues?

Actually tried that as part of my original design. I did such a poor job that I gave up on the idea.. don't have the hand control to do it well. Also looked overly busy!

Maybe white ? You could try - it wouldn't ruin the model, you'd just have to paint gold over it

No worries .. Like to get a bit more done so I can start playing/ playtesting. I'm guessing the infantry figures will be the most challenging as there is not much to them.
You can see from the pics, I painted a destroyer ( waiting for paint to dry moments) to try and get a translation to something other than the flyers. I think the barges will translate well!
More pics of those this week.

I think Galorn was trying to get you to think of the history of your army. Is it a newly awakened army? Or has it been up awhile? Did it wake up because of the alarm clock or because the mechanicus was playing with some tech on a lost world that turned out to be their doorbell? If you can answer some of these in a short one page story then it will help you decide on your base and display board.
As for me... I think they look great.

Thanks Theo.... I'm from a few generations back so this is probably not the only thing that will confuse me.
This is an Adepticon Army, a Quarter of it at least. .My other teammates are building a suitable Xenos army. WF with his Tau, Yellowbeard; Eldar and Git playing his excellent and infamous Necrons. ( or at least till a new Ork codex comes out )
As for story ... I plan on basing it on Anrakyr the Traveller story line.. The only change is that I plan to build a Female Necron Overloard Called Anksuna, the Night Queen. I plan to kitbash
some Warmachine stuff with GW to do a unique character. She was a member of the SIlent Kings court and her plan is to awaken tombs in order to build a vast army to seach and return the SIlent King Szarekh to the head and reunite all the Dynasties.
In reality I don't plan to build this army to a massive size. Just enough to give me the chance to play something else. Most likly no more than 1800 pts.

Thanks CL. I collect more than play, but when I do I like to have multiple army choices. So far My Lamenters are the most numerous. Besides Necrons I plan to have about the same points in Orks, Nids, Chaos SM's and IG. This should give me plenty to paint and all the variety to keep it fun and interesting.

Thanks, I was worried it would look too cartoon(y). But it has grown on me.
Yggdrasil wrote:Your Overlord also looks nice as is, why do you plan on changing it ?
Just goes to show me that you guys are picture stimulated! I had always planned on doing something different with my Overlord, This guy will allow me to have a playtest figure. One of the few options I have to make course corrections to my list would be in the HQ range. Destroyer lord, or foot Overlord. My overlord is based on Anrakyr the Traveller.
I mentioned the reason earlier..."I plan to build a Female Necron Overloard Called Anksuna, the Night Queen. I plan to kitbash
some Warmachine stuff with GW to do a unique character. She was a member of the SIlent Kings court and her plan is to awaken tombs in order to build a vast army to seach and return the SIlent King Szarekh to the head and reunite all the Dynasties."
On a side note I'm about finished with my AC list. Only thing that has to be done is the 5 remaining Deathmarks. They are about 80% done. After that It's all extras. Tomb blades, Monolith, wraiths (3), 2 tomb spyders, lynchgurad, Stalker and a mess of Scarabs.
Hopefully by the end of the week I'll get some pics of the deathmarks followed by an Army shot!

I love the black and white contrast you have going on here!
The gold really pops in this scheme. I love howbright your green is! How do you paint that?
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Thanks for comment Master A.
Some people like the gold others ( read back a few pages) are not really fond of It. Still it's what it is.
The green on the flyers and glyphs are a very watered down Scorpion green ( old GW color) . It pools only in the crevices. You have to many and many coats to get the brightness. The cool part is after each " filling" you can wipe off the excess and it keeps the flat higher surfaces free of paint.
As for the other green such as the cables.. I paint with 2 layers of scorpion green. then add more and more yellow, ( very watered down layers doing smaller and smaller sections. I always go with a bit more heavy yellow and try not do more than 4 layers. The watered down work to dilute the more concentrated yellow mix. Don't be afraid to be bold!
Allow to dry between coats ( The SAN76 rule )
Hope this helps

Yggdrasil wrote:The... "Flayers" ? I don't remember you mentioning them... I like the concept
Yeah .. I thought about them , but I think the 6th ed. is not rule set for CC units. It works for characters, but everything else is at such a disadvantage ( overwatch, roll to charge, ect)
If I was fielding a larger force, I would like to have some pop up CC troops to appear behind my Opponents line. but anything under 1800 points doesn't make much sense. To many more effective and counter effective units to take. Like Arks.
I'm also liking the old flayer models over the new ones.

Post by: Yggdrasil
Agreed on the looks of the older models... Wraiths are always useful though (if they are what I think they are : the clawed, serpentine constructs) !!
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Wraiths are apparently essential. Oddly the new version is about twice the size of the older models, Lot more details and thus more details to paint. I’m told 6 is a good number to have!
Had intended to get a game in today with them but I'm not set up to transport them yet. So I'm putting together a SM force using the new codex. I'll let Yellowbeard try out his Eldar list. ( ouch Wraithknight) In the meantime ...Off to Battlefoam.

Had a hour last night and decided to see if I could get a bit done on the many half finished projects.. Second out of 3 Drop Pod complete..
Pic taken quickly without a background and a bit of glare, but nice to have some left over projects updated.

Nicely done Drop Pods!
I must admit that the Lamentors were my first army of choice, back before they were claimed by the blood angels (not that I am complaining) but I drove myself a little crazy with all the free hand hearts and checkers. Any suggestions SL? and is that a transfer you used for the bleeding heart?

Alfndrate wrote:I'm not gonna lie, when I saw Lamenters DP I thought Daemon Prince
ALF...Demon Prince.. that be bad for the Lamenters... They already have enough problems.
MA...No all the checkers and Hearts are all hand painted . Upon closer inspection you wouldn't be so impressed. As for suggestions. Make sure your plan your checks before starting to paint. I use a white background. pencil in my lines and paint the black . retouch up the white, retouch up the black. Also mentally be in the right mood as doing so can be fustrating. Taking it in small chunks helps as well.
For the hearts.. I now use a stencil. These however were done prior to that revelation!
Next .. more work on the Contemptor...

You are just blazingly fast with those necrons, SL. They're looking amazing!
How many more guys do you have left before your complete list? (And of course, we want a group shot!)
Drop pods look exceptional as well. I particularly like how you used the checks on the interior of the doors, opposed to hazard striping.
And the panel lines on the yellow and white are beautifully crisp. Well done making the two hardest colors look easy!
And Im definitely looking forward to seeing you take on the contemptor.

I cheated by painting all the base colors in one fell swoop. Assembly, Priming. Base . Everything Necron was brought up to the same point together.
Ramos Asura wrote:How many more guys do you have left before your complete list? (And of course, we want a group shot!)
MY AC list has been done for weeks.. I'm just finishing all the " extra " figures n the conveyor belt.
As for this completion of Army.. I have 12 more warriors, 1 Stalker, 3 Tomb blades, 10 Scarab based, 2 Spyders, 5 Lynchguard, 2 additional Overlords and 2 additional Crypeks.

Thanks Yggs.. I'm more into the Lamenters as well. However AC has pushed me into other armies. I've always wanted to have other choices to play with and against.
At this point I'm collecting more than I'm painting marines. As effective as the centurians are supposed to be; I dislike the model. Still I have Dreads to finish, planes and a couple of LR's in future plans. I'll continue to work on my Lamenters but piecemeal as they are already a good size playabel force.

If you give me enough notice and could promise me a game in which I would get tabled by turn 3, I too could probably swing it (though it's about 3 hours from me) Though as a Cleveland Browns fan, I would be treading into the lair of the enemy...

It actually goes from yellow to red. I just didn't take the time to do a proper camera shot.
So working on alot of stuff for AC. While working the 120 scarabs for the base It thought it was a good opportunity to put together some scarab bases for the newly painted Spyders. There is a mix of different suppliers in the group. Like the variety. They are all magnetized so they all come off as wounds. ( didn’t need to do all 3 as the last wound the base disappears – oh well too late ). I’ll probably make 10 more after AC is over after I tear down my display back into useable pieces.

Just about got everything I need to finish out his army. In progress.. LGuard x2 (1 w/shields), Stalker, 24 more warriors, 5 bikes. I have yet to get a Ctan ( looking at maybe using one from the obelisk) and a few more cryptek's.. Then I call it done and finish filling out my Eldar wraith army.

It holds 6, no front door. Good for cheap troop protection, command squad delivery, or tech marine fixing up.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Looking at my stack of stuff I have 3 LR to do. I have the RS doors and front plate for 2 of them . I'll remove the Scorpion and add the bleeding heart like I did on several of the rhinos. Both are crusaders/Redeemers so I'll try to make sure I have one of each ( or Magnitize them and get some bits to make them the standard LR ) This will give me a total of 4 LR. .. Too Much?
The last LR I'll do with Extra Armor and the FW terminator doors.
I also have two Original OOP LR ( version 1 ) that I'll be using for my Chao's Marines. ( when I figure out what I want them to be painted as - Red corsairs or 1000sons ) - plenty of time to decide or change my mind!
Built 8 more tactical Marines ( not as exciting as the latest Vehicle projects I've been doing - Oh well...get these out of the way) and some normal scouts. hopefully I can knock these out this weekend.
Stay frosty!

Really, if the land raider gets popped, 6 tac marines are going to get slaughtered just as fast as 5 scouts. If you push forward they may ignore it for easier targets, but a scoring Achilles is a dangerous thing indeed.

Sorry, I was in Space Wolf mode, Wolf Guard packs are 3-10.
You could put a librarian/ mephiston or a sanguinary priest with a small assault squad in there, blow stuff up and carry an assassination squad.

Post by: Gitsplitta
How do you bring only 3 terminators? Isn't minimum squad number 5?
34329
Post by: dantay_xv
Not for wolf guard, squad size is 3-10, which is why my initial response was I take 3 terminators.
I forgot Solar couldn't (I am assuming, aren't Lamenters a BA successor) which is why I suggested a small assassination squad.
Use the TFC against small tyranid gribbles and the multimelta against something bigger, the jump out and finish off the bigger gribbly for example. Or melta a guard outpost, pummel the occupants with the TFC and wipe them out in assault, that kind of thing

Looks like youve been a bit busy lately, SL.
Looking great, and i still think you're a madman for not only painting yellow, but also painting checks on everything!
as far as camera settings.... are you using anything special on settings or is it an auto mode?

They look so much better in person. I just want the camera to see what my eyes are seeing
I use both.. at one time I was using a custom setting. Now they look blurry.. Is there a good resource ( simple ) that would give me a clue to what setting does what?

Weird that the Auto function is giving you issues... Try hitting the Macro mode button (flower) and see if that helps any?
I'll bug my little brother and see if he has any resources I can point you to. He's the more photo-savvy member of the family.
This site looks to have bits and pieces you might use... In particular theres a section on Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority- Two main things on DSLRs that you can mess with.

Sorry I just caught this... Dohhh... Chapterhouse.
I've made some progress on the 3 dreads. Most the Librarian. I have his two other PW to finish (the sword and Staff) The Iron clad is just missing the seige drill and some alt grubbings ( missiles, searchlight, grappeling thingy), I'll need to pick up some additional dread arms/weapons - Autocannons!
I'll try to take a pic tonight ( camera gods willing )
On a purchased front. I got some more stuff for the contemptors; so I'll be hitting them again and An Imperial knight of which I'll be painting in my household colors!

Contemptors, Centurions, fill out some heavy weapon choices & special weapon options ( plasma and GG), More Death company, 3 more Landraiders, 3 Storm Talons, 1 more storm raven. a 2nd vindicator, 2 whirlwinds. 2 ven. Dreads. 3 more bikes ....this is what's sitting on the shelf.....now I'm depressing myself.

Basing need to be finished as well.

After Git's comment about cleaning up his work space. I looked at the room I work in and decided it was a mess. So spent some weekend time cleaning up. Unfortunitly I have a 6 by 8 foot work table thus I move projects around; so when it's full I've really got a mess.
Got it cleaned and started to work on the other piles of boxes. Mostly terrain stuff. Now that I have the space I will try to get an Army shot.
I work at a Mfg plant and with some engineers. A while back they had a scale model of storage tank system they installed. They were just gonna toss it so I asked if I can have it.
A lot of the beam structure was already broken apart ( What would Graven do? .. so I took them too! ) but the Tanks and piping was still intact. Should make intresting terrain.
I've gotta clean up some of it before I take some pic's - Lot of dust.

I'm going to try and squeeze in some terrain pieces this summer, both for my local store and for myself. My FLGS has some poor selection of terrain pieces, it's slightly embarrassing. A lot of stuff is cast walls, basic foam board buildings or has a very Steampunky look. Good for WM, not so much for 40k.
27147
Post by: Solar_lion
Here is what I salvaged. There is a Lamenter JP Marine on one of the tank to show scale.
Some of the tanks are done with plastic walls, most are foam. I started coating the foam ones with Gesso so I can paint them after I fill the gaps. There is also a box full of the piping that was used to attach everything together.
On the left side are all the girders and building structure that went with the model. Some nice size peices. Larger that what you'd see in hobby stores.

I'm torn between making set pieces or individual pieces. My plan is to do a battle board type terrain that is just the inside of a manufactium. With giant Gears as hills and moveable superstructure as terrain.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Not really .. with so many large models now it can be of a decent height. I believe in sight blocking terrain ( wraithknight size included) .
I have to look at the Kickstarter WM showed me at Adepticon. Thinking 1x1 tiles would be easier to arrange as well as give me more opportunity to create different pieces.
I'm planning to go with a red dust eviroment ( think Mars - there was a WD pic with a Red Corsair bastion that was the right color I'm thinking of using ). I think it would be cool with the machines steel and black parts, bronze and colorful hazard striping.
This will take a bit of time. I'll need to channel my inner Dakka master builders or at least perform the gravenistic rituals for ideas!
Anyway that's the eventual plan.. we'll see how long this takes. ( also it would be a cool contrast against the Lamenter's Yellow or the Mantis warriors green )

Got my first Game of the 7th in . More like worked thru the rules than a game. Only did 750 pts marine vs. marine. No flyers and no heavies. Must include a psyker.
Spent a lot of time looking things up, thou I think the rules have in some cases been made simpler. Familiarity with the rule book slowed us down, I like the psychic phase. It was confusing at first but I think it makes sense and adds an additional level of strategy to the game. I can imagine heavy psyker armies now are a must . Kinda like flyers have now become. We tried to get a little bit of everything. We played using some of the more structural building terrain as shootable targets. This added a new element to the shooting phase. Yellowbeards Firehawks managed to explode a building with most if my army in it causing a vicious amount of causalities. Thou it was a cool. It will cause us to think differently about how we use cover. It’ll probably be important to talk through the AV of normal buildings prior to deployment. We probably should have made them a bit tougher than we did. Still just when your pounding away from your in cover fire base… someone drops the building on you. Was epic!
The objective cards are great and probably the biggest game changer as well as the most liked part of our game. It was a blast seeing the game progress with each card altering the course of the armies. Read the scenarios well if you’re not familiar as each mission is a bit different on how you use the cards. And since the card generate victory point chances, it’s important to do right.
So next up will be the big test. 2k per side . 2 1k armies. Time to add to the learning’s and allot more searching the rule book. Can’t wait!

I can understand almost everything you mentioned in here, as my buddy Denis & I had our first 7th game 3 weeks ago, with almost the same setting (1000pts, 1+ psyker, Maelstrom of War missions with Tactical Objectives) !
What we also noticed is that dice-rolling the Tactical Objectives was rather tedious, so we've planned to buy the GW cards (yeah, we're fanboys too )
Keep it up !

Hopefully I'm not confusing you. I don't always translate to page what I mean ( always typing too fast ). The cards are worth it. One thing to remember is that each player should have a set of cards. This I learned from the new Ork cards. They indicate they replace some of the current ones in the deck. In our game we played with only one deck thus would be confusing if you added the Ork card and your opponent wasn't playing Orks. Probably wouldn't of happend if we were rolling. Still nice to have them in front of you as you go.
Trying to get a bigger game on the 3rd.

Truely I'm Honored!

Good game.. Won 5-4. Still very much like the objective cards. Some rules changes/tweaks still are confusing, but after only 2 games I don't expect to get up to speed yet.
Here is the drawback to the 7th edition. We only manage to get 2 full turns in. It's partically due to not knowing the rules as well, but the guys playing next to us ( more experenced ) also only got 2 turns in. Both of us started about the same time and had 3 hrs of play. I would like to see a game to it's conclusion.
ok. I'm gonna try and get an army shot this holiday. between mowing and other projects. Then some GMS trades need some time.
To all my USA friends.. Have a great 4th.

Hard to tell since all the vehicles ( rhino variants) all come with RB ( HB, AC and LasPlas) & Predator Options( both variants). The Stalker included!
Mostly BA codex, but some figures are DA and SM codex's only.
Partically finished are 3 Dreads, 3 Contemptors, a mess of Terminators.
Currently thou I'm working on things that I have been playing recently that I don't have in the army and are likely to be needed in my future games. Namely Tac troops with Grav guns & Plasma guns. 2 More Bikers w Grav guns 1 with Plasma gun. 2 Stormtalons ( assembled this weekend ). I might repaint the Raptor one I did last year ( in the above pic).
Working on yours and Ramo's GMS as well. The reason I jump from project to project so much ( you can see the same on my Eldar blog as well) is that I get fustrated with something and need to take a break and do something else and then come back to it. Sometimes that takes a while when you have so many figs. I also am always finding new things to do and want to go back and update my older stuff. It's a dangerous cycle.
Thanks Graven. High praise indeed!

Thanks, I have about 5 more bikes in the works. 2 with Grav guns, 1 Plasma gun, 1 Melta and another Sargent with Chainsword. I figure I’ll need at least 3 more. 2 normal and a HQ ( something unique like Lightning claws or Hammer ). This way I'll be able to field 2 squads of bikes with any load out!
I have Centurions. Just not gotten to them yet.
Time flys and you suddenly figure you got more than you thought.. This is just what painted.. I have about the same amout unpainted. I need to play a large game against someone!
Yggdrasil wrote:Really nice army shot... Are you playing the army as a mix of BA & SM detachments ? As you seem to fit gravguns in haha
I have played them as BA, DA, SM and variant chapters such as IH's. Mostly due to optimizing for Adepticon. Nice to have options. I try not to get too specific, Such as speciality DA Landspeeders or Flyers. I can't see sticking to the BA codexs in the 6th or 7th as they are unsuited and not close to competitive. Hopefully a New BA codex will update the selections to the new Meta. So in the meantime I mostly play using the SM codex.
Meph wrote:My heart rejoices at the sight of so many beakies.
All most all of mine are.. The few exceptions have been set figures either out of a box set or cast that way.. biker box set as an example.
IceAngel wrote:Great army shot Solar. It's nice to see you're hard work all lined up and ready to kill.

Thanks Brother! This is why I jump around so much. Honestly it takes forever to paint some of the Inf. I need someone to make and cast me some Lamenter shoulder pads!
Getting things lined up to do some priming. Like I mentioned earlier.. So far 5 bikes, 2 GMS Marines, 6 Marines (2 Plasma, 4 Grav), 2 storm Talons with Magnitized weapons. After that I got some Eldar stuff to do .. 10 Wraithguard , Wave Serpent, Another Wraithknight. Another Crimson Hunter and 3 War Walkers.

Thanks Hk1x1. This army came about as a team effort for Adepticon. Our Team was based on the Badab war so we all choose chapters from the event. Ironicly we all picked the sucessionist. So this has been in the making for 4 years?
MS. Still I love to play Marines. Wish the codex matched the fluff thou.
All our recent games we always are proxying flyers, so I thought I get my act together and build some that i had, These are still WIP so they have some finishing to do.
