Hi guys,
I've fallen in love with the idea of a 40k Imperial walker-type vehicle. Concept-wise, I want it to be like the Star Wars AT TE, preferrably as some kind of Infantry Fighting Vehicle (that is, transports infantry and supports it).
Looking on the interwebz, I found this:
http://www.coolminiornot.com/198789
But I'm affraid it looks too tall compared to its length. It looks more like a downsized AT AT.
My problem is:
I don't know how to scale it. Should I go for a smaller Chimera counts as?
...or larger, more true to the original AT TE, Stormlord style (large troop carrying capacity) vehicle?
I'm just not really sure if I'm up to building a 50cm long 40k vehicle.
So input on suggested size would be appreciated. And how would you build it (what parts)?
I'm thinking two pairs of sentinel legs (front and rear), larger (?) middle legs, perhaps use a sentinel cockpit for the head... I have some Rhino/Razorback/Predator parts lying around that could be useful too, as well as a lot of Plasticard.
Any help appreciated!

Sentinel and Deff Dread legs.
Deff Dread legs are big right?
For the body use a Razorback and fiddle from there. Remember even if it looks like total gak, you can call it a prototype and try again later.
Oh and Imperial Walkers on the north ridge

Deff Dread? Hmm.. They look very Orkish, and not particularly vehicle-ish either. I think I could Plasticard/Scratchbuild something better.
I think the Razorback is slightly too Marine for my Imperial Guard taste.
I think the sloped armour of the Chimera would fit the concept better...

How about a Devil Fish or Hammer Head? Then with a healthy application of Plastic Card you could make it look less Tau. Those kits come with plenty of guns that could be used to show the nose weapons and then if you got the Hammer Head its gun could be used to simulate the Turbo Laser on the AT-TE's back. This project does seem more Tau in my mind...
Oh and after looking the Deff Dread legs do look to small for the project.

I think you're on to something. A Tau AT TE would probably look best, a Railgun(cannon?) would look good on the back...
BUT (and it's a big but), I play Imperial Guard, and this project will be for my guard.
As for guns etc... I don't really need to worry about those. First of all, I have plenty lying around, second of all, if I'm going to get to game with it, it's gotta have some kind of rules, so either a Chimera counts as, or something along those lines...
How about counting as a Chimera with an autocannon on top? I think FW had rules for those in an IA book somewhere...
Edit: I'm affraid the Tau vehicles are waay to round to be usable though.

Yeah I suppose that an Auto Cannon Chimera would work, you'd still need to plastic card it a bit, but it could work.
As for using it, I see what you mean.
Yeah they are a bit round but hey thats why there is plastic card.

I would figure the entire IG army to be consisted of heaps of tanks.. and on the occasion heavy to super heavy transport tanks.. i guess i can't envision a IG walker, except for the sentinel..
Good luck to you anyways tho.. i'll be keen to see what you come up with =)

The "head" part could be a Tau vehicle of sorts, but you'd have to convert it a bit(add some skulls(lots of em)and aquilas). Some Whirlwind launchers on the "back" would look cool too, maybe together with a big cannon of sorts, like on the AT-TE. Lots of sponsons on the side would be real dakka too. The legs could be sentinel like you said.

I've bought two sentinels and a chimera (I had some credit at a local shop ), and I've been plasticarding away yesterday and today. So far, it's sentinel head, sentinel front and (stretched) rear legs, chimera hull, plasticard sloped armour, and kitbashing the middle legs (in progress, using lascannons and threadwheels).
@ BrotherStynier: LOTS of Plasticard!
@ Sicarious85: There is no such thing as 'the entire IG army'. There is 'a multitude of different and varied IG armies (generally) working towards a common goal'. Catachan Jungle Fighters do not use tanks at all for example. Elysian Drop Troops use flying Valkyrie Assault Carriers. The list goes on. My Imperial Guardsmen are a veteran force with extremely specialized equipment, primarily Air Mobile forces, but including swampfighters and specialized cityfighters. In the rubble of a city, I could imagine a 6legged walker Infantry Fighting Vehicle to be pretty useful. In swamps too, I'd say they'd be more useful than a regular chimera.
@ Yuggothian: I've gone for a sentinel to keep the imperial feel though. I really feel like adding some sort of missile launchers on the back, but ruleswise, I don't really know what to use it as then. But I'm gonna keep the gun/turret interchangeable, in case I figure something out. So far, a longer autocannon (sort of like on the predator) would look pretty much like the AT TE's cannon. I don't know how to add sponsons to that thing unfortunately.
...never really been a fan of 40k sponsons anyway.
Pictures!
Early work, showing the planned front shield.
Legs. I'll bulk 'em up and hide/redo the horrible stretching work.
Strengthening the plasticard armour plates.
Rear armour plates done.
Comparing WiP to the original.
Work so far.
I'm thinking of adding the top half of a predator turret to the rear roof section, to hide the chimera hull some more. Also, I'd like to add the sentinel exhausts to the rear left hole in the hull (which, on a regular chimera is the left hatch on the front part of the hull). And I'm still working on the middle legs. I'm gonna do a bitz swap with a buddy tomorrow, exchanging my ForgeWorld threepronged Dreadnought feet for his cross-shaped regular ones. They're gonna work well as feet for those legs I think. Any ideas or suggestions?

intersting, I like what you have done so far but it really needs at least one more set of legs, and they are a bit smallish for the bulk of the body.

@CaptainVyper: They do indeed.
@Stump: Thanks mate.
@Slann: I think I'm gonna make an apocalypse datasheet for it, but otherwise use it as a chimera counts as. I might just do another one or two, they are quite a fun build, although pretty expensive (gotta look if I can find the bitz cheap somewhere). A few sentinels would look nice along with them - urban strike force anyone?
@Smiling Assassin: Thanks!
@Clang: Indeed. You're right, the gun mount is a bit on the spindly side. I'll see what I can do. But thanks.
@Shattered Soul: Thank you.
Sorry, no pictures tonight. My camera is dead, and I can't find the charger. I'll look for it tomorrow.
I've been rivetting all day, and adding details and (even more) stowage. Added the middle legs. They are nice and bulky, but I haven't managed to get a hold of any nice feet, so I'm stuck with some old metal dreadnought ones, and they aren't the greatest. :(
Also, we now have a Heavy Stubber gunner and his gun. ...all I'm saying is that he's vostroyan originally. You'll see...

You have done some good work here. I must say that I agree with KingCracker on the middle leg thing. But then again it looks like it could brace itself on those middle legs and maul the tar out of something with those front legs if needed. Just need to paint that thing red so it can go fast and you are golden.

@ Kingcracker: Yeah, I've gotten some negative feedback on those legs, but I don't really know what to do with them either... But thanks nonetheless!
@ Stump: Thanks! (see above commentary for the legs) They are meant as supporting legs to brace when firing or climbing over difficult terrain and such. I'm afraid it won't get any red mate.
@ Paul Atreides: Thanks for the information. And thanks!
I'm thinking something between adeptus battlegrey and codex grey. Alternatively, catachan green. Still undecided.
@ Darkhound: I think I'll use it as a chimera with dozer blade. I might do a few different turrets so that I can use it as different vehicles.
@ Kenny: Well, I'm glad if I inspired. Please tell me if you need a rundown of the bitz I used.
@ Da Generul: Well, looting would be some sort of compliment too, wouldn't it?
@ Goodgle: Thanks mate! A fortune you say, eh? I'm not so sure, but I'd be happy to do one as a commission if anyone's interested.
I'm spending the weekend with the girlfriend, so no updates today. I'll cut off the excess bit of the base and add gravel tomorrow.
