So, I have an idea to scratch build/kit bash myself a chapter master for my Iron Snakes.. the biggest problem i am having right now is his weapon. Namely in that i want him to be wielding a trident.

Does anyone have any good ideas for bits, etc. in making a good 2 handed trident for a marine master?? my bits boxes include Marine, Tyranids, IG, Dark Elf, and Ogre Kingdoms (including a fantasy Giant box) so i have a decent amount of "spiky" bits to choose from.

that sounds like a small piece of narrow-gauge brass tubing from the hardware store and either a bit of plasticard and GS work, or some of your said spiky bits and GS work.

Shouldn't be too hard.

Depends on what look you're going for really; if you like the idea of a trident with lots of straight lines then taking a DE warrior banner pole and slicing it down a bit might be a good start. Whereas if you want to go for a more oceanic/organic look tyranis scything talons (genestealer size) would work better. I've found chainswords to help greatly with cutting up for bits on weapons, reguardless of what style, to be very helpful too.

I'd be curious to see what you come up with as the chapter has a very interesting concept to it.

You could also use the combat blades from scouts (or similar) and a banner pole if you are wanting to only use GW plastic.

Also, there is a slightly curved bit that comes in terminators and commanders for the iron halo. It has a number of spikes set on a cresent shape piece that would be quite easy to mount on a pole.

Alternatively, he doesnt have to be holding with both hands, does he? He could have a bolt pistol in one hand and the trident in the other. Just a thought.

Am curious to see what comes out of ye olde bitz box.

Cheers

The closest I know of would be if you could buy an old Lelith Hesperax on ebay, she held a trident.

well, i have since begun working on this conversion.. and after a few test fits, and a few that were simply too large for a marine sized individual, i have worked my way down to a more acceptable size trident head.

i used one of the BA Sanguinary guard axes, chopped off the axe bit, placed some brass rod in its stead (unfortunately the pin vice found a soft spot in the plastic from where there was no axe head) the Tridents head itself is made from a DE lance tip, 2 arrows from the WHFB Giant kit, and the winged terminator honors tab that comes in various marine boxes, namely for backpacks and the top of termie armor.

that trident head looks awesome, now if you could greenstuff the brass rod to have a wrapping around it like the axehandle it would be a tridant worthy of even the mightyest of chaptermasters.

It has been varified by John Hurt that the Ultramarines are indeed the greatest space marine chapter.

The picture doesn't work for me, but the others say it is a good job, so... Good job, I guess...

I was going to suggest a sanguinary guard axe - the have some nice two-handed grips that you could look at but, yeah, it looks really good

have another update: still need to place some purity seals or some such on the trident, but have it in place, and the torso/head assembled.. will soon begin painting

not the greatest pics in the world i know, but it is only a WIP shot, so i am not too concerned, as long as the pic shows what has been done and its overall positioning.

That's pretty swell. Only complaint would be that the brass rod is slanting, but otherwise top notch so far.

yeah, as i said earlier.. stupid hobby drill found a soft spot and would not leave it be, so the indentation i made for the brass rod came out slightly crooked

Looking good so far!

Concerning the rod, you can always fill the hole with gs and drill again later.

That figure looks fantastic. From where did you get the torso and legs?

I find army painting tedious, so I paint single figures for the fun of it.

the torso, or rather the chest is from the BA sanguinary guard box, the legs are a pair of BA death company (i honestly do not play BA, originally they were going to be for some Raven Guard honor guard)

I have say that this is a great model as it is already. I can't wait to see it painted. My only comment would be that the length of the rod could have been shorten slightly. Personally it looks a little to long to me for a single person.

have another small update.. so he has been primed, and i have gotten his basic coats down, and have begun working on some details:

one thing i am not entirely sold on, is the red border for the small combat shield the he has... maybe gold?

I think gold might look better than the red, but thats my personal opinion

WOW! Looks even better now that he's semi-painted. I do have to say that the length looks a lot better now that he is painted compared to the unpainted version. Guess some times it's how the details come out that really make it pop.
