This a rather weird model to be released by GW.

It makes me wonder how GW think up of this stuff.

The original 1987 edition of the game (Rogue Trader) was full of all kinds of wild and weird ideas, including the Jokaero. There's an awesome thread around here somewhere full of fluff and art from the original edition. If these guys confuse you, that thread will blow your mind.

I like them, but I also miss the humor 40k use to have.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

In itself, the Jokaero is a nice model and has its place in the original official background (basically build around the pun "digital weapons").
Making it part of an army, esp. a Xenos hating Imperial army is what doesn't make sense and contradicts official background.

IDK It's a nice model, and a good sculpt, but it seems a bit too cheerful for 40k? maybe due to the cartoonishly bright colours they have used, but it looks like it belongs in Starfox Adventures (the old game for the GameCube) than the grim darkness of the far future.

Perhaps with a darker fur tone and better basing it will fit the theme of 40K more.

To re-iterate:
Sculpt - Awesome, Concept - Awesome, does it fit into 40K? - Not really

I have to agree almost entirely.

And regards how they came up with the concept? Perhaps they watched the Planet of the Apes?

It's funny how you can actually field a whole unit of them with an Ordo Xenos inquisitor, who are suppose to be xenophobic, even more so than other Ordos.

Jokaero aren't any more sentient than a dog. Humans have been enjoying the company of dogs for thousands of years now.

I'm sure even the alien-intolerant Imperium has their doggies.

Ordos Xenos has no qualms about using weird alien devices, why would a weird alien dog matter?

I haven't had a look at the codex, but I hope they are a terrible unit. I guess even if they were OP I would still find something to take instead of a squad of them. Better yet, I'd rather take a pack of dogs with mini servo harnesses for count as models. That would be neat.

Someone in the other thread kept spelling Coteaz's name as Cortez. I thought they retconned his name too. But yeah, Coteaz leading an army of Daemonhosts is the same as a Ordo Xeno Inq leading a herd of space monkeys.

And if the Jokaero are still 10 points a pop, we'll probably be seeing Space Monkey spam, since even if they only have a lascannon, multimelta and flamer, it's a freaking lascannon for 10 points. 120 points for 12 lascannons shots a turn is always worth the points.

Jokaero tend to build only things which meet their own immediate needs. Attempts to control the Jokaero and force them to construct technology have met with failure as they build things with which to escape from their captors.

That's why.
Even if Ordo Xenos wanted, Jokaeros can't be controlled.

Unit? You can field a complete Xeno army with only the HQ being human Xeno haters. And Mat sees no reason to explain that.

Would these not be the equivalent of daemon hosts? Perhaps Jokaero are what you'd find in a radical ordo xenos inquisitor's retinue. Trying to use the abilities of the enemy to fight the enemy for the good of the IoM

Am I the only one who thinks it might be GW poking fun at Terry Pratchett's Librarian from Unseen University? I mean... a guy looking like an orang-utan, who is only half-sentient, but impressively knowledgeable does sound like there are a few similarities. And then that orange colour scheme, too.

As for the issue of fluffyness, I think xenos fighting for ordo xenos is just the O-X way of being radical.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

A lot of Ordo Xenos Inq. are pretty tolerant of those they fight. They don't have to be OTT purist. Most of them seem to be portrayed as realists who understand that fighting Xenos isn't the only thing they do.

That's a relief. I was looking at the leaked dex (the local FLGS apparently didnt get a Blackbox, I'm going to another FLGS out of town this week to take a peak) and followed the entry to the wrong points cost. Still very cheap, as most armies pay that cost for the lascannon alone than pay for a model, lascannon, and two other weapons.
