If it's for a GW game, there is a set of trade restrictions in place for independent dealers - they cannot sell GW product outside their trade areas. Wayland is a UK company and they are not (yet*) able to ship product outside of UK/Europe. This means no sales for GW stock to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. Now, if it's a non-GW product army, then go for it. GW restricts who can sell their products where - other companies don't care. *They are working on a legal workaround to the restrictions, but because it has to be legal, it is taking them quite a long time to get all the t's crossed and i's dotted.

You should also be prepared to wait a while for your order. I dont know if it is simple backlog or if their systems cannot handle the amount of business they are getting but I have experienced long waiting times and have heard similar stories.

We get two-three week times for deliveries DIRECT from Euro manufacturers, so the same delays from dealers is normal for us.
I prefer Maelstrom, though. At least they tell me if stuff I ordered is out of stock before I order it.
(being told only when I receive the invoice that "x" is o/s and I have been re-credited that value isn't the same - I was ordering it because their site said that the stock levels were fine. If it was o/s then the site should have reflected it.

To be fair to Wayland, their site does denote stock levels and having visited theor warehouse quite a few times (the are 20 miles away from me) thay tend to hold allot of stock anyway. Obviously Christmas is always a busy period for any retailer.
Also if it was not clear for the OP the restrictions only apply to GW stuff. They are still quite free to send any other line anywhere they like.

Sorry I have to disagree here. We have a constantly monitored helpdesk etc. If you raised a ticket it would have been replied to. You should check junk/spam folders just in case emails get caught up.
Regarding slow shipping times, it isnt clear if you mean slow to dispatch or slow to arrive after dispatch. One is beyond our control the other is within our control.
There was an issue earlier this year where the US's Homeland Security were how can I say "Intercepting" huge number of US bound parcels for screening and had a massive backlog.
Our aim is to be the best we possibly can, with the best prices and service. We obviously are human and things can go wrong but we definitely have more stock and more customer service staff than any comparable retailer in this market place. However this industry is not a normal industry in the traditional sense, supply in many cases is an ongoing challenge that we spend an awful lot of time managing.
If we screw up we do like to know how, we then find out the why and try to correct it.

When I was able to order GW from Wayland prior to this years embargo it was always a good experience. Reasonably fast shipping (the stated 2-3 weeks seems normal to me, Maelstrom was usually that long on GW product too), and the one time I did have a problem it was handled swiftly. Would order again when something changes to make GW available to order to the US.

I've not ordered from wayland, but the claim that maelstrom tell you things are out of stock before you order is wrong. The website displays stock information, but it's not always right. From a phone conversation I had with them it seems to be that stock sold in their physical shop is not reflected on the website very quickly. I ordered some paint from them last spring (around easter, since I used the easter discount voucher), which they said was in stock (in higher quantities than I ordered). They send me an email to confirm the order, and said another would arrive when the order shipped. I waited and waited and waited, and after a couple of weeks had passed I called them and was told they hadn't got a single pot of the colour I ordered (I ordered six pots, their web site showed stock well in excess of that at the time of the order).
Turns out their supplied was out of stock as well, so they would have to wait until they could get stock before I could get my order. I was fine with that, but the lack of communication was terrible. I sent emails which weren't replied to, and called them again a month later to find out what was going on. In the end my order arrived at the end of august, during which time I had received no communication at all. I will not be shopping there again.

I've had stuff from Wayland and Maelstrom turn up virtually next day, but also sometimes take more than a month. There are so many variables in postal ordering that I doubt that any supplier of anything could guarantee a 100% success rate. Both have displayed more than reasonable communications and neither are "fly-by-night" organisations. If I had to make a call based on averages, I would say that Maelstrom pull slightly ahead, but mostly (entirely subjectively) because I find their website slightly more intuitive, and they seem to do a few more "discounts". Having said that, Wayland send more information out about what they are getting in, which is also good.
They should meet up some time, have a few drinks, maybe get busy and make a whole new set of uber-shops callled Waystrom.

It doesn't help of course that both companies (Maelstrom and Wayland) are hamstrung by GW's ludicrous policy of only allowing them to bulk order once a week.

No one is forced to have more stock they simply have to be reactive. I.e. they can't guarantee immediate shipment.
A proper inventory, so having what you say you have and perhaps enough for the rest of the week is just good sense.
GWs previous set up with nextday/bi-weekly allowed Internet retailers to carry low stock levels in the expectation of GW delivering today's orders tomorrow rather than bring a trade couter type set up that im sure it was meant to be. I guess GW found the levels of orders being placed daily too much and changed it putting the onus (rightly?) back on the retailers.

Not sure it is entirely fair to expect Maelstrom and Wayland to maintain large and costly warehouses of stock simply to alleviate the fact that GW only allow orders once per week. I struggle to think of any other manufacturer of goods that places this restriction on its distributors/resellers. As far as I am aware, both Maelstrom and Wayland have moved to larger premises purely to help alleviate the situation. I do know that ordering non- GW product from both doesn't involve the same delays as GW sourced stuff.

I like Maelstrom better than Wayland.
Being in Canada, I'd recommend the OP check out miniaturemarket.com -- probably the best place to order from if you're in Canada. They ship cheaply to Canada and I've never had to pay anything to customs.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I admire Wayland for having enough backbone to try and do something about the R.O.W. trade BS that GW lumped on them, and I hope they can succeed in that regard.
That and for acknowledging there was a problem with Finecast when it came out, rather than just sticking their fingers in their ears while palming out dodgy goods and hoping no-one would notice.
Certainly gives a more favourable impression to the customer.

And for charging £149.50 for something GW will sell you for £130 with free shipping.

As a European customer I faced a similar situation. It took the company 4 weeks to ship my order. While they did reply to my tickets (where I was at first told that its a case of backlog and then told something else), they did not initiate any communication. With the stiff competition between British web stores I do not see myself ordering from there again. But to their credit, I did not feel like I was being scammed. I did expect to receive something... at some point.
Although, I do appreciate the stand they have taken considering some GW policies.

Maybe the problem is that some people appear to be ordering things with a specific "I need this by..." desire. whilst others (self included) purchase on a "It'll show when it shows." basis? I've just bought half a dozen box sets from Maelstrom. Some are pre-order, some are available now, some are out of stock. I'm in no rush, so I'll look forward to receiving a nice spread of parcels over the next month or so. Our time requirements are what make us upset (or not) by any imagined or perceived delay in shipping?
Also, in recent years I think shoppers have become spoilt by the "within two days" order. I still remember when almost anything one could order came with a "Within 28 Days" warning.

I wouldnt called it "being spoilt" though
But I have stopped using webstores to get stuff that I need urgently. Recent experience has taught me better.

It's not about being spoiled. It's about honesty in communication from the seller. Don't say you have it in stock if you don't. If you do it by accident, that's a mistake. If you do it on purpose, then it's a lie.
Don't lie to your customers.
This isn't hard.

Never said it was JUST spoilt. Merely that it is a factor, just as GW policy is also a factor, PP being caught out by desire for their products, BF Europe's embargo, and so on. In fact "lying" is probably just about the last reason that there are any problems with mail order from either outlet.

My brother ordered a few things from Wayland around 12 days ago....it was finally delivered yesterday. It seems to be the old 'showing as in stock but not really there' problem that Wayland seem to suffer from.
Edit: I might also add that he went with Wayland rather than Darksphere just too save £1....
