Land Raider Pilot on Cruise Control
|
Hi Dakka,
I've been suffering from the butterfly effect since... ...well forever really. I have so many projects started that I am now at a loss as to what to work on. It got bad in July 2009 when my daughter Raven was born and I lost the time and space to just leave everything hanging out as it were; then in June 2010 it got REALLY bad with the birth of my Son Corwin (yep they are only 10.5 months apart, I never was one to do things the easy way). Now they are old enough that they go to bed at reasonable hour (most of the time) I can get my gear out and work on my models of an evening.
Now that I have made my play for the sympathy vote, here's what I need from you Dakka peeps: Help me choose what I should work on first or rather choose what you would like to see me work on.
Here are the choices:
My Raven Guard Army that I started in honour of my daughter.
My :SOB: Super Heavy for my partner:
My Schola Progenium Imperial Guard that I started just before the wonderful news that I was going to be a dad:
There are many more images in my gallery for you to see what I'm up to with these "main" projects. I'm not even going to mention my Eldar or my Baneblade.
I intend to do a project log of whichever of these comes out on top with you guys in the new year.
Thanks in advance for any help or opinion you give.

I'd do your IG, it looks like the most complete army and his has a nice driving theme to it, sounds like a good project.

I 4th or even 5th the raven guard! a very crisp nicely painted model with an excellent base, why wouldn't I want to see more of that kind of excellence?

Some interesting things to think about here.
The Raven Guard, it's in honor of your daughter. What could be better than that? Besides, the model looks beautiful.
The SoB SuperHeavy for the woman who just bore 2 children for you within a years time, she kinda deserves it at the very least!
The Imperial Guard, so close to finished you can taste it!
All good reasons, but I think I'll vote for #2.

I should do the Super Heavy first because it can be completed pretty quickly and nicely with some spray paints and weathering techniques.
Then the Raven Guard because you are part way through on them.
It's always good to break projects down into chunks that you see can be finished in a reasonable time, so I would finish 1,000 points of useable as an army Raven Guard, then add another 500, and so on.

They'd be easy enough to do maybe 1-5 troops at a time, broken up really easily into whatever time you have to set aside for it.
Likely do the super heavy first though. The bonus it has is there will be less small bits left around if you forget to put it away.

Why not paint a unit at a time of both the raven guard then the IG. Just that somtimes i lack the motervation to paint lots of units the same so this would break it up a little.

Both. I prefer to paint a handful of minis at a time, swapping back and forth so I don't get bored.
What's the rush? Take a year or two. Sisters and IG aren't going anywhere.
Congratulations on your virile seed.

OK...
I make that :RG: 9 :IG: 3 :SoB: Super Heavy 4 (counting suggestions to alternate as a vote for each.
@ Nerdfest & Dez Thanks for the compliments, they made me grin broadly.
@Zefig If I can persuade my other half to create a log in you shall have it. She's teaching herself Photoshop atm so it may be a while.
@Kilkrazy In answer to your signature; a wise man once said that those who seek power are the ones that you least want to have it. I propose political candidacy by qualified lottery. Each constituency gets 12 randomly selected candidates for people to vote for.
@Ouze It was a combination of virile seed and a large amount of ooops. I wouldn't change it for the world though.
Thank you all for your input.

I would agree: Something you can get through and out of the way first to ease you back in (and also earn some brownie points with your partner? ), then something that you have already got your teeth into, with something entirely new in the future to keep you going.

If you haven't been there already, there is a forum dedicated to Raven Guard, and its successor chapters (link's in my sig)
Looks like a clean mini you had there, and like most here, would suggest finishing up the RG, but if not, I also love a good IG army, and think that you have quite abit at least started on that one.

A lad made a comment above saying that IG are the most 'complete' army you have and as such, you should focus on them. This chap has a point.
If you are going to develop a gaming schedule around your youngun's, then focus on the most complete army.
But I love the look of that Raven Guard mate. If its just a painting project, go with that, purely because I would love to see the results!

Despite the fact that you've already decided to go for the RG, I'd suggest starting on whichever you're likely to be able to finish first - so that way you have something out of the way, a feeling of accomplishment for having finished it, which should in turn keep you fired up and enthusiastic for whichever project you start on secondly...
