A bunch of people are throwing some cash in a pool for a tournament like this. You bring one guy, give him upgrades, equipment, whatever (as long as its under 200 points), then you send him into the most pit and hope he survives. Winner gets the cash! Who should i bring? I was thinking the culexus assassin because of his etherium rules and his ability to insta-kill on to wound of 6. Any ideas?

Also saint celestine has been outlawed, because no one wants to fight she that will not die.

Culexis is a good choice but he's an elite, not an HQ choice.

If it's any character, then you're set. Any shooting to take place beforehand? How about psychic phase?

I'll say that a ML 2 Librarian with terminator armor & the shield Eternal + force weapon (Axe) might not be a bad option. Roll Biomancy on him and hope for Iron Arm for T:7, ST:8 (ST:+1 on the Axe) & AP:2 with Force for Instant Death. The axe is unwieldy, but you're already lower initiative than many other characters, with Eternal Warrior. Roll with Iron Hands tactics and you can also hope for Endurance as well on the Biomancy chart, which gives you a 4+ Feel No Pain roll that gets improved to 3+ FnP thanks to the new buff that Iron Hands get to FnP due to their chapter tactics. Lasty, you might get Warp Speed, which will get you +3 more attacks.

That gets you a 2+/3++ character with possible ST:8/T:7 statline, only 2 wounds, but At least a 6+ FNP save, It Will Not Die, and Eternal Warrior, plus AP:2 attacks with Force (Instant Death). Depending on psychic powers, you'll get +3 attacks, + 3 ST & T, or 3+FnP (With IH Chapter Tactics) with the rolls on the Biomancy powers chart.

Just my thoughts on that. There may be better options, but that keeps you under 200 points I do believe.

Take it easy.

What army do you play might help...

You'll want an Eternal Warrior, so how about a SM Captain w/ Shield Eternal and Burning Blade? 195

Or SE and Thunder Hammer w/ Artifacer Armour 190

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!

Thx for the suggestions! And I normally play grey knights, but I just bought the new SM codex so I was thinking along the same lines as Red_thrist. Also, it is any character or HQ, just as long as the unit can legally be just one man and his wits.

As for the way the tournament goes, each side rolls for initiative after setting up 24 inches away from each other. All phases are in effect, as in movement, psychic, ect. Also the guy who is running it is going to set up terrain for LOS and other things to allow for more tactics and not just make it a "who can bash the others head in better" match xD.

Simple,
Use sevrin loth
ML3 librarian with a 2++ UNDENIABLE invun who can also pick his powers
Just go iron arm, warp speed and endurance for a S7,T7 eternal warrior bada** with a 4+++ FNP and 2++ invun and 8 attacks on the charge! (At S8 AP2 because he has an axe)

How much does Loth cost, though? If he's over 200 points (and I'd be surprised if he isn't) then he's a no-go. There may also be a restriction on named characters as well? Not sure, as the OP didn't specify.

Interesting options for sure.

Take it easy.

Captain - bike, thunder hammer, shield eternal, digital weapons.

No point taking artificer armour as practically everything you face will be ap2. Toughness 5 is more useful, as is eternal warrior.

Digital weapons are because I needed to spend 10pts.

So, how does this work exactly?

For each 1v1, do the respective HQs start on opposite sides of the board?

If so, would it be worth considering a mobile, shooty HQ? Especially since, just looking at this thread, most people will be concentrating on the melee front.

So, what if you used, say, an Autarch on a Jetbike with Reaper Launcher? Or a Farseer on a Jetbike with the Long Rifle relic thingy?

Obviously your damage output in either case is hardly stellar. However, the point is that you can inflict that damage from the other side of the table. You're relentless, so you can move 12" and fire, and then move away a further 2d6" in the assault phase. And, even if they do manage to pen you in, you can use your Turbo Boost to move 48" away.

Loth can't actually use the 2++ save with the inclusion of the psychic phase into the game. Anyway, my vote goes to Smashfether lite, similar to what Crazyterran suggested: Clan Raukaan Captain with bike, gorgon's chain, thunder hammer and digital weapons. Last remaining 5 pts can be spent on an auspex if you so please (or melta bombs).

Thank you guys for all your tips and responses.

Since a couple people have asked, I'll try to explain the rules of this tournament in as much detail as I have been given.

The board we will be playing on is 24" by 24", its filled with terrain including forests, broken down land raiders, ruins, ect.

Roll for warlord traits

Each character will start exactly 24" away from each other, on the opposite end of the battle field. All deployment rules are in effect, so for example if I were to take the culexus I could infiltrate closer to my opponent, or if you have scout then the scout move is allowed as well.

After deployment, role for who gets first turn. There is still steal the initiative.

From this point, is a normal game of 40k. All phases, movement, shooting, ect.

List of characters not allowed: Anyone over 200 points, Saint Celestine.
All named characters are ok as long as they meet these requirements.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
