Is there not other ways to make humans immortal? There have been successful experiments with telomere-freezing technology, or nanites in the bloodstream that revitalize the body. What is this "awakening"?

Iris: I don't know about other methods, but the awakening has been effective for as long as humani have existed

Iris: I am not the best person to explain this, but I will do my best...
Every living thing possess what we call a Aura, the natural electrical field that surrounds the body, normally the aura is dormant, but certain Elders have the power to awaken a humani's aura, granting them enhanced senses and, with training the ability to preform what we call Magic.
Now the process itself is extremely dangerous, auras vary in strength, and if you try to awaken someone with a weak aura, it can lead to brain damage, a coma or even death.
Another danger is the sensory overload when someone is awakened, sometimes it can just be too much, and drive a person insane
All in all, I would say about 10% of awakenings could be called successful by any standards, so doing it to just anyone is... risky to say the least

*I walk out of the UM Thunderhawk on the landing pad and begin walking towards the Room*

You see auras as a series of concentric field-rings around people, yes? Amputated limbs have... "ghost images"? As if the limb had not been removed at all?

*Iris smiles and shakes her head then activates her aura. A rainbow glow outlines her body with the delicious smell of ripe fruit*
Iris: No, it's more like this, though I some pulse, and others can tend to be stronger around certain areas of the body

*Stares in rapt admiration*
That is... beautiful. When I saw a picture of an aura through an anbaric scanner... it showed iridescent fields surrounding a person, and a ghost image where their amputated arm used to be. Your aura... is... so much more beautiful...

*Iris beams and her skin changes to a cheery yellow*
Iris: Thank you! Mine is rather special however, normally they are a solid color.
Horus's for example is a light brown, Morrigan's is a dark gray, almost black, and Ra's is a bright sunny yellow. So it can vary

Iris: I've not really used my aura in a very long time... I'd forgotten how much I love seeing this.

Iris: When one learns to focus their aura, they can create things like this. Horus uses this ability to create armor for when he is in combat, but I never had such need

The Aura is your life force, you can draw on it to a certain extent with no issues, but if you overuse it you can start to age rapidly, overuse it too much and... well have you ever heard of spontaneous human combustion? This is no myth, it's what happens when a person draws too much on their aura, they explode violently. I've never seen it happen but I've heard stories
