Yeah, I hear the new subs are better than the "Fox Boxed" dubs that I saw on CN. The website I found recently that has streams that work on my iPhone has One Piece on it, so I may have to watch that series again.

My favorite characters tend to be the ones who smoke... i don't know why. Also Sanji being a blonde frenchman hits close to home.

Ahhhhh I finally got to see Gundam unicorn episode 5, after waiting 4 months for it to come out and its not even the end of the ova! They have episode 6 and 7 coming out, but not until next spring, a whole year away! Who does that for an OVA?
Is this something common for OVA's that arn't many episodes long?

I now know I watch too much anime. I was perusing Skyrim mods and initially read 'Samurai Blades' as 'Samurai Babes' and actually clicked on it to see what in the name of the Jarl had been done THIS TIME to Skyrim....

I watched puella magi madoka magica. Seriously the most shocking anime I've watched since Evangelion. Don't get put off by the cover or the trailer because it deliberately hides the crazy shocking stuff and awesome.

That's how I felt, except Evangelion was a let down for me. Seriously that show has major problems that everyone seems to overlook...
But anyways, Madoka fools you for the first 3 episodes and then suddenly becomes super dark. Its very well executed.

Yes it was so very good I've been stuck doing random fan boy stuff for the last few days. Reading the manga series and the spinoffs etc. I don't know if I missed something or I have found a horrible plot hole.
I laugh at the amazing amount of grim dark that sifts its way into the series though. This thing makes some 40k stuff look bright.
I found the Remake movies really fixed up some of the iffy things in the evangelion series.

Nothing since the last few eps of Evangelion's original run aired have ever been worthy of the term plot hole (it was a veritable plot singularity, from which not even sanity could escape.)

I would consider it merely a worst case scenario. Ganix endings are indeed horrible but they eased the pain with their movies which showed what they really wanted to happen.

Rebuild of Evangelion is actually really good. It's much better than the anime, which had about 13 gak episodes and 13 good ones, and an ending so indecipherable that Dan Brown himself need not distort anything to make a conspiracy novel.

I've only seen the Evangelion series so I cannot comment on the movies, but the show was so awful I haven't bothered with the movies. I was really expecting something out of Eva when I first watched it and man was it disappointing. Also that's what happens when your director has mental issues.
I still don't get why anime fans tend to think that Evangelion is super deep. Its not deep at all.
And I am referring to the TV show before anyone points something to the movies or remakes.

I guess some people like the darker stuff more than others. The entire OMG factor that happened quite a bit in evangelion kinda fuelled it. On a sad note, the fan service might have helped Evangelions ratings a bit... It’s not really needed in my opinion. But as I said, where the series failed, the remake movies have really patched it up, both visually and even going a changing the plot quite a bit in the second one.

I dunno, I enjoyed it back in the day, when I still thought angst was cool and giant robot beat em ups were awesome, but I distinctly remember going WTLF? when it suddenly swerved left into a cross between The Prophecy and that video they make Malcolm McDowell watch in Clockwork Orange.

I'm kinda the same with eva, Baron. I've had a hard time going back and trying to watch it again since college or so. I have been watching the Rebuild movies though and they've been pretty great so far. The characters haven't been nearly as annoying as they were the first time around, for the most part. I'm fully expecting those improvements to be dashed in the coming installments, but it's good while it lasts.

I still don't get why anime fans tend to think that Evangelion is super deep. Its not deep at all.
Its reputation comes from how human the series is. The characters, as childish and emo as they are, really hit home for a lot teenagers who were dealing with a lot of the same issues presented in the series (granted the series fantasied the issues to a massive extent). Barring its horrible ending, I think Evangelion is a very good series. The problem is that come the ending, there was no delivery and the series just became a let down.
Animation quality was also very high for the time, and the fight scenes were quite epic.
The real problem is the numerous knock offs of Evangelion that have followed in the last decade, most of them even worse than Evangelion itself.

I was like, "What kind of badass does that?" It just makes no sense and adds to the ridiculousness of that OVA. I still need to watch the sequel from which I've been is actually worse than the first.

I can understand depressed teenagers feeling some kind of common ground with the characters, but I'm referring to fans who have outright said that EVA is amazing because of all of the Judeo-Christian stuff that is thrown in and they claim that makes it deep. It doesn't because its just thrown in to sound cool. I don't see how that makes it deep, but a lot of people seem to think it does. Its really ridiculous how far some fans have gone to justify how "deep" the original show was when it was far from that.
The Evangelion knockoffs were hilarious. The list is probably still growing. xD

Oh. They're idiots. Its not even Judeo-Christian is Kabbalah, which is basically ancient Jewish mysticism with some good old Gnosticism thrown in for flare. Those elements are only as deep as the author took the time to squish all those references in there. That particulay section of the fan base is annoying as gak, cause frankly, they're just plain stupid.

I think the movies need to be taken into consideration - at least End of Evangelion does. It basically shows you what happens in the outside/real world, whereas the end of the series shows you what happens in the characters' heads. You need to watch both to get the full picture. And I think that it's this combination that the fans are referring to.
I wouldn't say it's "super deep" though; I've watched way deeper and less needlessly convoluted anime by now. It was "deep" when I was still a kid having just watched it. So maybe for a lot of people it's largely a matter of fond memories?
If you want to see what happens when your director has mental issues, go check out Legend of Crystania...
Good way to run the Lodoss War franchise straight into a wall. Such a promising idea, such a bad execution. :(

Well, I suppose in that case it was intentional (though I barely recall that one episode I watched 10 years ago) - but with Legend of Crystania, the director was actually arrested for doing drugs.
