People actually use horses? I just use my travel form.. (werewolf). It helps that I've already found 150+ locations I guess...

Anyway, anyone found this games uber vendor yet? I need some vendor with actual cash in his pocket.

If its like Morrowind just wait 24hrs and vendor cash will refresh.
Highest I've seen so far is 3k. Not a lot mind but if the 24hr trick works it can add up nicely.

Question for those more familiar with the game than me. I just got myself a horse and I was wondering - can I at any point make attacks whilst riding it? Or will I always have to get off?

Oh nuts. It feels kinda of odd riding up to combat then getting off. "Wait, wait, guys. I've just got to get off my horse. OK-- go!" Still, I'm having fun just riding around on it, so there's that.

EDIT: Bizarre rhyming spelling mistake.

The horse is more trouble than it's worth. You can steal one for a bounty you could pay off with buttons and a half-sucked sweet, but I suppose that's only because they're absolute crap. You get off, and it has the ability to fly across the road and land somewhere obscure, they also jump late, so you have to learn to time the jump a second or two after your press the spacebar. The movement is also pants.

I honestly think it's faster on foot considering all the mounting/dismounting, finding my horse again, trying to face him in the right direction...

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

No, there is no mounted combat in the game.

There might be a mod later, but I understand why they didn't put it in. The game would completely lose it's balance if you could strike enemies from a horse.

I don't mind the horses so much, they can sprint for long durations (I've never actually ran out of stamina on a horse) and they seem to be better at rock climbing than you are.

I bought a horse for 1000 gold and thought it would be cool.. he was fun to ride around on, but that was about it. I got off him to enter a dungeon, and then never saw him again.

There's some quest lines where you get a horse to ride like
Spoiler:
Astid's horse Shadowmere from the Dark Brotherhood
.

Right now I'm still riding that one, dunno if he's mine forever. But what I do now is when I fast travel I'll get on the horse first, thinking maybe it will take less game-time to get to where I'm going.

Also for the 7 billion steps, all I ran into was an ice troll and an ice wraith or something like that.. and a bear or 2. And a couple of NPCs. Just remember to save often, if anything so you don't have to run all the way back when you get too close to the edge to admire the scenery and fall off the mountain and the only way back is to start over at the bottom, like me.

You can get a free horse from a Stormcloack camp just north of the Graybeard hold on the main map - note it is not on the mountain, it is on the north side of its slope south of the ritual stone that is there.
There are two horses there and you can ride either without stealing or having to pay.

Did you try porting back to a city Necros, your horse should respawn at the entrance, Riverwood is a good one to try.

Can you own multiple horses? And can your companions ride said multiples?

Yeah that one that I bought is just gone. Maybe something ate it while I was gone, who knows. But the free one I got from the quests has been working great, he's always there waiting for me. I also found another Thieve's Guild side quest where I think you can get a horse or give it to the guy a the end, but I chose to be nice and let him have his horse since I had the other one anyway.

Lately though I've just been wandering around on foot just exploring and stuff. I've been thinking about just taking a super long walk from one corner of the map to the other and just see what I can discover along the way.

Not sure about owning mutliples htj but your companions cant ride, which is kinda annoying, hopefully it'll get modded at some stage.

I like your playstyle Necros, several guys I know are ploughing military style through the game or have strategic areas they focus on and then complete and move on.

To each his own I guess but taking it easy and exploring, "going over that next hill" was always the appeal to the Scrolls games for me.

At first I was going to just go to each town and do all of the quests, then move to the next town. But, it's usually just the first couple of quests that are close and the rest are far away. So, now I just have every quest marker showing on the map, and when I get to an area I do everything nearby, then turn those in and pick up more. I'm 1 or 2 away from finishing the dark brotherhood though so I'm gonna finish that up tonight.

Big tip for all heavy armor users, Dragonplate is not the best, Deadric actually has higher armor rating. Just found this out, much to my annoyance, good thing I haven't used my deadric hearts yet I guess.

Is heavy armour a must for close combat? Or can you get by with light?

Being the sneaky type I'm always in light armor, and I do fine in melee now that I've got the skill over 40 or so. I haven't gone against anything super uber though aside from dragons and I do OK against them. It's magic that hurts me the most.

You can get by with light.

My CC Theif-type did fine against dragons.

I'll echo that magic is the most dangerous thing. In my opinion, resist cold/fire/shock are the best enchantments.

He's an interesting fella. You can get jester cloths like his a little later if you keep doing the DB quests. I have a full suit, I wish I could have a little mannequin standee thing in my house to hold suits of armor, or force Lydia to wear it.

Has anyone had much experience with Destro/Conjuration Wizards in Heavy Armour? Mine seems to be doing fine (even if Conjuration is a bastard to level; can't wait until I can summon Frosty without eating 3/4 of my magicka in the process, even if I don't end up using a lot of it afterwards) but i'm wondering if i'll head into any trouble later on, like magic nerfs due to wearing armour instead of clothes.

Haven't done that yet, but planning on making a Heavy Sorcerer type soon. Have you taken the 'half Magicka cost' perks for Conjuration yet? those and %reduction cost enchantments are rather sweet. I got a level 10 who can fire off dual Lightning Bolts like they were party streamers right now.

Speaking of which, is there any way to create your own spells, or are you stuck with pre-made ones. Similarly, is there a range limit on non DoT spells?
