But seriously, I wanna see a Codex: Traitor Legions. I miss the legion rules fron 3rd,

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I just finished writing my version of the Imperial Guard codex. I think I will post it for you guys. But anyways, if I was to write a unique one, it would have to be a warp-spawned Adeptus Mechanicus force. It would involve half-daemon, half-droid creatures which would look quite similar to the monsters from the original Doom computer game.

My codex was published.. 50% sort of.. except all thef fluff was changed, different H2H units were added, and I got no credit.
(though I doubt GW read my codex when I posted on the net years ago - might even have posted on Dakkadakka before the meltdown)

A decade or so ago I was introduced to Warhammer 40k and started reading whatever codex my friend had, we played against each other using his armies.
After a few months I wrote a codex.

- 50% in -

The basic unit's stat line was ~Guard.
They had slow vehicles, some hovered.
Were technologically advanced, plasma based weapons were common
Had some basic autonomous tech (drones).
Some characters/units had exosuites which boosted their stats.
Railguns.
Guilds were wide spread and whose power ranged over most planets such that collectively the guilds were powerfull, but locally they were not.
- Sounds an awful lot like Tau, now dont they?

- the 50% that didnt become part of the codex: Tau -

Fluff: They were Squats. If I said what they were first line, would you have read this far?
Psychers were about as ubiquitos as Eldar - you could have plenty or none at all, depending on style.
Your HQ options were Psycher and Guild Foreman (3 types). The guild foreman were requirements for you to take certain upgrades and soldiers.

- Miners' foreman: basic ellite unit could have thunderhammers, dreadnaughts could have autocannon or extra DCCW
- Plasma foreman: basic ellite unit could have plasma pistol and PW. Any unit may purchase jump packs.
- Spacer foreman: Lascannon/multilaserclosed_top options for most squads/dreads/kans/tanks/etc.
Psycher HQ choice allowed Psychers to be upgrades in your units, who could give boosts for morale/CC/etc
(^- looks like 3rd ed. Chaos with one less god, and thats sort of how it worked, but it wasnt my intention. )
My commando and generic trooper, aswell as my CC units were.. not very well thought out (they sucked, both in rules and in concept).
Vehicle walkers were not so much warmachines as they were converted heavy lift equipment: something between IG sentinel and SM dreadnaughts and were usually open topped (crew exposed). Some traveled in squads, and some could even get jump packs
etc..

Tau came out 1-2 years later. I had very mixed emotions about GW and Tau for a few years.

If I could write a codex, it would be Squats.
Many years later Im now a Libertarian-minded Engineering student: I have a real affinity for the concept of the Squats

It was the weapon of a Daemon Prince. Not as clumsy or random as a Bloodfeeder; an elegant weapon for a more detailed age. For nearly a two editions, the Daemon Princes were the guardians of variety and flavour in the Chaos Codex. Before the dark times... before the Jervis. H.B.M.C.

Hrud and Dark Eldar

Hrud get mentioned quite a bit in the fluff, (such and such a primarch/marine company/cool guy[s] cleared the Hrud warrens of [name] [roman numeral]) yet we still don't have any way of representing them in any game. Inquisitor has stats for the fusil, but not the Hrud. Big honkin vehicles with lots of structure points, powerful, slow firing warp-plasma musket type weapons, weird burrowing equipment in HtH, deeps striking burrowing transports. There are loads of options. I always thought a pavise musketeer unit would be interesting. Getting a 4+ cover save if they didn't move in their last move phase.

I've always thought they should release a codex for dark eldar as well... wait, I'm recalling that once upon a time they did. Not sure though.

I'm certain Hrud are the futuristic equivalent of Skaven from WHFB. It's been implied a lot.

I'd personally like to see a Hrud codex released, though I think they need to put out a new Dark Eldar and LATD list first (the former could be a real codex, the latter could be "Chaos!...Blood Angels style...")

Also, what pray tell is Pan Fo
(I probably shouldn't ask but I'm a curious git)

the blobs, a race that travels the univers sucking up organic matter and growing. the models are anything from blobs to undead with decrepid material barely being contained within the body. it would be kinda of like lotd except with realy tight models that are discusting looking.

Basically, I would love to see one book that covers all three of these ideas, and I applaud those who mentioned them. I play my guard as non-chaos rebels, and I think there would be alot of possibility in these ideas. They could have access to cool alien tech, abhumans, psykers, and bizarre alien races. It would provide the "Star Wars Cantina" feel that the 40k universe has in my mind, but lacks in the published books.

I like the idea of a blob codex where you could use play-doh for your army. When you assault enemy squad, for every hit you roll you get to pick up some of his models and jam them into the play-doh blob and add more play-doh. You could even deep strike play doh by throwing it up in the air and landing on his stuff.

After the game both players get to have a fistfight.

I've toyed around with 3 potential codex concepts:
1) An army of T2 creatures with a past of in-fighting. Due to their great armor technologies, they've put massive importance on high AP weaponry. But, because they're all T2 none of their weapons were designed to be anything but strength 4, with the exception of anti-tank weaponry which all follow rules similar to Eldar bright lances. All weapons have AP 4 or better and any "important" unit has either a 3+ or 2+ armor save while "unimportant" units all have 5+ or 6+.
2) Prisoner Revolt. An army of Humans with certain special rules to showcase how hardy and combat capable they are after enduring hellish prison stays before escaping and revolting. VERY limited access to armor and ranged weapons. Dependent on large numbers and makeshift CCWs and stolen pistols, rifles and shotguns from prison security.
3) renewed squats codex

I Like the idea of adeptus custodes....

imagine... 5 man squad with....

WOW! And all of them armed with Triple Bolter (like storm bolter but extra shot) and a Force weapon each!

Also all have psychic powers....

That would rock!!!

It's called Codex: Assassins

I don't think a secessionists would work in the fluff of 40k. Any human force that broke away from the imperium would be destroyed, and would have no chance of fending off the imperium.

I would like to see a Codex: Rogue Traders, With mercenary units such as kroot and eldar, but with an emphasis on crafty techniques, the only kind of thing i can think of is stuff like c4 that are hidden on the battlefield, and detonated when the player chooses. A fighting style that emphasizes the fact that these guys are dirty-handed pirates. Light fast vehicles could also make up for a lack of heavy tanks and firepower. Equipment such as rpgs IN SPACE! and use of camouflage. Alternately they could have really flashy equipment with lots of dakka, but still rely on underhanded tactics that make your enemy rage.

I'd really enjoy writing a Codex:Iron Warriors. After reading Dead Sky Black Sun I feel like a lot of interesting new units can come out of it. Such as rules for Honsou, Savage Morticians, daemon artillery, some units of Iron Warriors infected with the techno virus. Some new wargear, and maybe a few specialist psychic powers.

I'd really like to do one for all the legions as long as I could keep it balanced.

I chose words a little poorly there. I mean more like people who are just starting to be infected. With a special rule to represent morphing lighter weapons or something like that. Maybe having their weapons all count as twin-linked and being fearless as an elites choice.

I'd like to do Dark Eldar first and foremost, but there isn't too much to say with that.

A more interesting book would be a Codex: Encyclopedia Xenos, a collection of minor alien races and creatures from all over the galaxy, too small to be a real threat to the imperium but very dangerous. It'd kinda be a large expansion on the creature article GW used to have. It would be tied into a small scale Kill team skirmish type sub-game.

More realistically Demiurge. I'd have each squad containing an accompanying tankette or automaton, the tankette is both a heavy weapon and shield projector providing a portable cover save to the unit. Their vehicle would be slow moving hover tanks; moving like a standard vehicle but ignoring terrain. Weapons would be: graviton guns that could crush or pin units, Rng 18 S5 AP6 Assault 1 Pinning.
Stats: WS3 BS3 S4 T4 I4 W1 A1 LD7 Sv4+
Demiurge would have an emphasis on highly crafted weapons and armor. They'll have short range fire with decent assault capabilities. Transports would have a high front armor due to shielding with an assault ramp; limited weapons; weak at rear. Battle Tank would have all 13 12 12 with the ability to choose between a blast template or a melta like affect.

Omadon's Realm

The Genestealer Cult army in full with additional rules for turning to Chaos.

Chaos done right: so a Codex for the Traitor Legions (ancient tech, (god or undivided) specific comprehensive units and the troops actually represent thousands of years old marines, some weapons and tech perhaps now lost to the imperium... jetbikes mebbe?) a Codex for Renegades (incorporating recent traitor marines with lower morale, recent tech, cultists and Lost and Damned type stuff). Scrap the daemon army since the daemonic will form part of either of the armies. Strong emphasis on the Gods and their rivalries.

Rogue trader Privateer Army (a great way to take alittle bit of many of the Imperial forces together, even incorporating certain aliens using the 'You may take X, but only if you do not include Y in your army').

Dark Eldar need a serious overhaul, both the army list and the frankly hideous models (make people look at the Eldar range first...).

So, I'd like to raise a few army lists from the dead and see several we already have get some much needed attention.
