And also here's a closeup of the army emblem.. finally decided to start painting that on the empty shoulder pads. I'll eventually put it on all the marines too.

Oh a devided undevided symbol.. uh how chaotic? No seriously I think it is okay to combine the armie's name with the chaos star looks pretty cool. Except for the Ultramarines "U" letters are not realy common as chapter symbols so it first is a bit strange but after thinking about it there is nothing better.

hehe yeah at first I had it as a normal chaos symbol just without the horizontal bar but then I liked it better like it is with the 2 separate K's

Really like the army badge (reminds me of the icon for the band Kidney Thieves ) and of all those terminators the lad hoisting an icon. Great squad though, the army is really coming along.

So last weekend I got a couple of good games in with 5th edition. When I was building/buying all this stuff before 5th edition was barely a rumor and the new models were all brand new.

My list was 2000 pts with something like 1 dp w/ warp time. 10 marines w/ 2 plasmas, 10 chosen w/ 4 meltas, 7 plague marines, 8 berzerkers, 5 terminators, 2 vindicators, defiler and land raider. I came to the conclusion that I really just need more troops. So first off, I think I'm going to mix up the chosen in with the other marines and just make 2 marine units. I will probably ditch the land raider (for under 2k games) and use those points to add more plague marines. But most of all, demons! i mean, they're free troop choices! I could have 20 scoring units if I wanted to and had the models to back it up. Which I don't, and probably won't, but I'm getting started!

I picked up a box of crypt ghouls, these will be my demons. With the boney theme of the army, I felt something undead was the best way to go as I mentioned before. Someone said to try ghouls and I think they're perfect. Once I finish my Trygon (which won't be long, I mean all I gotta do is paint it alien-black).. the ghoul "demons" will be next on my list.

I'm thinking I will paint them with similar skin as I did on the chosen, the kind of reddish purple look, with their back spines pure black to match the marine horns. And I'll see what kind of other chaossy bitz I can add to em.

I thought about using skeletons or grave guard, or some tomb kings stuff... but they're all too "fantasy" looking, the ghouls though just look like flesh eating monsters so I think out of all the undead stuff these are the best bet.

I'm really liking the way the ghouls look they're perfect. They're a little shorter than the marines since they're hunched over. Overall they're fun models to build too, the pieces all fit together real good and I've had very few mold lines to file off. I was gonna try and mix in some other bitz like chaos horns or guard bitz here and there but I think they look great just as is.

Nice - those guys will fit right into your army perfectly. I'm happy to see how well they fit the style.

The ghouls are a great fit, considering your theme and such. Glad to hear you've gotten some games in with the boney boys

the ghouls were fun to build and went together quick.. I had em all done in an hour or 2, most other stuff takes a lot longer since I have to spend so much time filing and trimming and stuff. They should paint up pretty quick too.

I was trying to prime my Trygon last night, and my black spray ran out .. I gotta get some more and now they're calling for rain so he might have to wait a bit. Also gonna try and find some spraypaint that will be a good match for bleached bone so I can get the tanks done quicker too. Starting to switch gears back to nids now so I wanna get the chaos stuff done

Had a little too much non-game stuff going on the last couple weeks :( but I finally got my ghouls done. These will "count as" summoned lesser demons About the only real conversion I bothered to do was swapping a skull for that guard helmet skull. I thought the models worked fine just as is.

I painted them with bleached bone for a basecoat, then a wash of Gryphone Sepia and then another wash of Ogryn Flesh. Real quick and easy I decided to make the bones they're holding be white so they would stand out more. I will eventually get a 2nd box of these guys so I'll have 2 units of 10. I might run them as 2 units of 5 for now and try to use them as objective holders that hide till the time is right to run out and grab it.

The pics suck as usual but a few models came out clear enough, but they look a little more "orangey" here than they really are. wadaya think?

They look good for the speed paint job they've had. In fact if you hadn't said so I wouldn't have guessed that they are washed.

Nice and suitable undivided looking. They really stand up from the bases.

Thanks

I got my Trygon and some Skorne stuff out of the way now I'm back with these guys. Painting up Vindicator 1 of 3. Should have it done in a few days. Painting to look like the Defiler, bone for the main color but all dirty and rusty.

Kinda bummed though, I bought a big can of bone colored spray paint but when I actually sprayed it it wasn't bone at all, just like an off white.. so I gave up and just did it with a brush. It would be cool if they would put out bleached bone spray again.

go ahead and steal away

to get the bone color I use bleached bone as the base color. For a wash I use watered down Dark Flesh, don't know what the mix ratio is I just did it till it looked right. I used an old paint pot to mix it in so I'd have a lot. I also add a few drops of Matte Medium to it, that helps it stay in the cracks. You can get that at any art store where they sell acrylic paints, it's cheap.

Anyway after the wash dries I'll go back over with bleached bone again and drybrush it real light.

I also use that same wash for the gold parts too.

Thank you ! Also, would Ogryn Flesh (one of GW's new washes) look as good?

Ogryn Flesh might work, or devlan mud. when I did my plague marines I did them the same only I used rotten flesh and devlan mud wash, devlan mud is a little darker.

So... I'm stuck.

I'm working on the first vindicator but the paint scheme isn't looking as cool as I thought it would :(

This is kind of just the basecoats. I haven't done the metal parts yet but the gun and fork will be metal, and the top of the exhausts.. the other parts will be black.. and I will add rust like I did to the defiler. And the chaos emblems will be gold.

any ideas on what I can change before I really start the weathering? Should I make the black sides be red? Should I add more gold? It just seems a little too plain for me :( and I can't go add the dozer blades now, I traded them away...

any ideas?

well i find that you should drybrush a layer of bleached bone over the areas that are bleacehd bone, i find that this would bring out the color nicely and make it fuller so as to fit with the rest of the model. also the engine grill at the back, i know a guy that painted this brazen brass and gold and it trend out really sweet after a layer of chestnut ink, although this is on a thousand sons vindicator, so im not so sure it would fit aswell with the bleacehd bone as it would with the blue, but it is worth a try no?????? good luck either way

It looks a bit plainon the sides A bt magnolia living room. I think it'll look ok when you've done the bits you mentioned tho.
Trpphies on the sides might break it up a bit.

I think you should take a look at this tutorial. Not saying use all of these, but a bit more variation could go a long way.

Yeah I saw his tutorial before. I was totally blown away. But ... that's a little too extreme for me. If I put that much into a tank, it wouldn't be one I would be playing with So I just want a cool weathered effect that doesn't have that many steps

I've actually been doing a lot with the new washes, devlan mud mostly. I just changed this tank a tad, I painted the smoke stacks bone as well and suddenly it all started to work for me. Hopefully I'll have #1 done in a few more days

Heh, I figured you might have seen it before, I've seen it a few times before but never sat down and really gave it a serious read through ^_^.

It is definitely extreme, but my main point was to have you think about a bit more variation in the color of the plates and add some texture via paint.

I really need to find a project and let myself go wild with all of the amazing techniques I've been picking up over the past few months in the weathering department.

I really love the new washes, but feel they come up short for serious weathering. After giving my objectives (a pair of fuel depots) some quick paint ups, I've started to see what is possible in a very short amount of time if you just apply certain color choices and techniques. I did make extensive use of them for the depots, but they left a bit too 'smooth' of a feel for me. I really see myself investing in some mig pigments in the very very near future ^_^.

Do you have any plans for smoke weathering around those newly painted stacks ^_^?

Can you tell I'm all about weathering...?
