Yeah me too. I'm gonna try the Maramite method on the next one

I have 2 of the tamiya weathering kits and they help a little. But I've just been watering down the washes a little to prevent streaks and build em up in layers. The washes work better for men, not so much for big flat areas so you have to be more careful that it doesn't pool and look funky when it dries. I think after I paint on all the rust splotches and stuff like the defiler this one will look good.

I think the next big step in weathering for me will be pigments and oil paints. My biggest concern however is that I don't really know how well those will seal if/when I go to varnish them. I guess some test pieces should be first up on the list before I do a full out tank.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how the marmite works out for you. There should be a transfer of the mini tutorial nips put up to the articles system soon. The addition of other users photos using the same technique could help give others the push they need to try it out as well ^_^.

Here's an update for the vindicator.. most of the weathering is done.. I used a lot of washes of devlan mud and also watered down dark flesh. I tried to always paint it on up and down, I wanted it to look almost like streaks in some parts like it's all dirty and washed by just the rain over and over for years and years.

The rust splotches are just pure dark flesh dabbed on all over the place, and you can't see in the pic but also some of the bigger spots I painted some boltgun metal in the center.

I just have to finish the tank commander for the top, add the custom decals I made, and then paint on some mud and stuff for the tracks. and along the bottom. I will prolly also use some watered down spackle mixed with brown ink to give the mud some thickness like I did on my baneblade.

Wadaya think?

I'd go back in with a highlight to the bottom edges of the rust spots to give them some additional depth.

You can vary things up a bit more by using a scouring pad to paint it on instead of a straight brush.

It's definitely looking good so far. Looking forward to the mud ^_^.

Looking nice and dusty.

I am with grey_death on the depth of rust spots, also the gold(?) metallic parts could use some additional highlights. Especially the chaos icon on the side looks flat.

The side of cannons barrel looks unfinished, it could use couple of wash layers to break the brush strokes.

You are getting there though and the tank doesn't look to be so much in wrong company with the other figs of your army.

It's coming along, I'm almost done I added the decals and I want to give them a couple more coats of microsol. The spackle mud didn't come out as good as I hoped though :( I will have to drybrush some metal back onto the treads a bit here and there. then give it a good spray of dullcoat.

Then I have to paint 2 more

I really like the overall look of your army and your palette.
Obviously, all is pretty much in the same color, but you did a good job seperating the main color on the tank from the cupola dude, by painting the cupola surroundings black. Well done. Now get back to the other two.

Nicely done.

I think the only thing I would add at this point would be some exhaust weathering. A quick (very) drybrush of black around the immediate area near the exhaust tips trailing to the back slightly would do the trick.

I really really want a vindicator...somday....

Oops.. forgot that part I meant to do that. I have some tamiya black weathering pigments that I was going to use for that.

Now that I got this one done I'm hoping the other 2 will paint up quicker... I just wanted to get the tecnnique down but I spent a couple of nights on this one just doing so many layers of washes and drybrushing and more washes

Thanks Actually I'm painting #2 right now should be done soon. I took a break to get some tyranids done. so all I have left to paint the 2 vindicators and 1 land raider.

I'm also thinking of adding the new fantasy WOC khorne juggernaut champion as a conversion for a khorne marine lord.. and possibly the new fantasy demon prince as a generic greater demon

i think it looks great next to the other one, it would however look even better if a third vindicator would appear in the picture as well... if you get my meaning good sir.

"That is THEIR stuff." "THEY'RE crappy converters."
"I put it over THERE." "I'll go to the store THEN."
"He knows better THAN that." "This is NEW." "Most players KNEW that."

hehe thanks. the symbols are actually decals I printed them out on decal paper, I made a whole bunch of sizes and numbers so I can add them to the marine shoulder pads too. I used the testor's decal paper.

The top row is for the side doors, the 2nd row is a little bigger for rear doors.. the big block on the left is for shoulder pads.. didn't get around to adding them yet though.

Finally
Seriously looking impressive though, your choice of colours really works well on vehicles.

You got anything special planned for the LR? Conversion.wise?!

thanks

I dunno about the LR honestly. I have it built just normal with a few chaosy bitz thrown in. I was going to just leave it like that I think, since the other tanks are all not as spikey too.

I've also been thinking I may take some of my tanks from my marines and repaint them for these guys. If I ever go back to my marines I think I want to do them as a drop pod army anyway, so I could take 2 rhinos and maybe a predator from them, but in the few games I've played the 2 vindicator + defiler combo for heavy support has worked real nice.

I'm also thinking of getting the new WoC Khorne lord on a juggernaut for a conversion for these guys and I may get a 2nd box of terminators and run em as 2 units. Trying to bulk up to 3000 pts I'm at around 2300 now with the land raider.

Now that you mention it, keeping the LR simple does make sense. Replicating the front spikes from the vindis could be interesting, if you can pull it off in a cool way.

Bulking up the army would be nice for plenty of reasons so do it. lol

You should definately get the lord on juggernaut. Its an awesome piece and i wanne see what you do with it.
