I finally gave in and paid for Army Builder, and I gotta say it is worth the money if you're iffy on what you can and can't have. It will check to see if everything in your list is legal.

Maybe you hang out with immature women. Maybe you're attracted to immature women because you think they'll let you shpadoink them.

Pen and paper since it is usually the fastest.

Join the Imperial Guard. The pay's lousy, the battles fierce and you probably won't ever come back again. BUT you get a lasgun.

For those who don't use ArmyBuilder... why?
Is it
A) Personal Preference
B) Cost
C) Too hard
D) Incorrect Data Files
E) Pen+Paper is easier/portable
F) Other/Combination?

I like using Armybuilder, especially when I'm at higher points values, and especially for Fantasy. The ability to change unit count easily multiple times is invaluable when trying to squeeze maximum value out of those last few points. When I try to to the same thing by hand the paper ends up so scribbled over it is illegible, and I still couldn't tell you if I ended up with 8 or 9 models in the squad.

Generally, I work out my list with Armybuilder, and then for a Tournament i'll print it out nicely with Word - I find armybuilder has too much on the sheet, when all your opponent really wants to know is the number of models and what equipment.

A, B, C and D.

PS: F – Army builder sheets give me headaches.

Yeah, I have to say Battlescribe, and only after having two computers crash and had to go through the licensing thing with AB all over again. Basically bought it again...

So now I help maintain and work on the Battlescribe data files, so I am a little biased. But when I can throw together the basic framework for a list in a few hours, then use it and keep improving it as I go, makes me quite happy. That and it's free.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Ive been using microsoft excel, its pretty nice, I'm still learning the ins and outs but I've got it set up to be pretty easy to change things around and since I'm working on 2 armies at the same time i can have it do all the math so they stay even and all i have to do is obsess over what wargear looks coolest.
Soon I'd like to figure out how to the do the "drop downs" and the "if thens" in the program and it would be pretty much like any other army builder software.

I use excel as it can add points for me and I can split the categories up how I want. Plus it costs less than army builder.

BT uses the Codex Astartes as toilet paper. They’re an Imp Fist successor, recruit from multiple planets, and are known to be the largest Chapter in the galaxy. They’re on a constant Crusade, keeping it real for the Emperor and not bumming around like the other guys. They hate psykers and can’t ally with them. They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

There's just something more wholesome about using the mighty pen to write a mighty army list.
