You and me both! It turned into something out-of-control, but that tends to happen sometimes with us. Updates soon.

Runt (Terraformer) is one of the best. It is that simple. I was sad when he was not one of the winners of the GW RoB board contest.

Well after that last email i can not wait to see where you are going with it.

Wow. The sludge is my favorite bit. To me its the details that bring a piece like this together. Outstanding work again good sir.

I have to say that I love your work man. It is amazing. The detail is simply stunning. You have motivated me to build some of my own terrain but I have no idea where to start. Do you have any advise that you can give the lesser terrain builders like myself to get us started? Thank you again for your amazing work.

What do you use for the falling liquids? Is it stretched Necron sprue, or hobby water?

I do not know of anyone better. The terrain they make should be played on by the Legends of 40k.

Im noticing a lot of Hirst arts stuff in the terrain pieces, notably the desert market scene. Isn't reselling that kind of... you know... illegal?

Not that I wouldn't want to buy some, especially painted!

From the Hirst Arts Legal Statement Notes:
This says that hobbyists can build and sell finished models made from my pieces.

Thank you so much, I always love to hear that the work we do inspires others, I feel there should be a lot more emphasis on the terrain aspect of this hobby! As for how to get started, I would say try to come up with some plans and ideas, and then don't be afraid to go the extra mile. Research by looking at art or getting reference pictures of the kind of terrain you want to make and spend the extra time to detail it how you want it to look. Put the same kind of effort that you would in painting your best figures. Many people skim over terrain work because they want to get it on the table as fast as possible, but as our artist Mismuse is fond of saying "You don't want to be mediocre, do you?" We'll be releasing a lot of tutorials as time goes on, so stay tuned for more tips on our website and here on Dakka.

I use a few different techniques, but for the most part it's hot glue. I plan on doing a tutorial on this technique later on to show the details involved because I get asked about this a LOT.

I acutally only used Hirst products on that one particular desert market piece (which I should also add was inspired by Lut Gholien, the desert city from Diablo 2,) In the early days of our terrain making, we used a variety of products, from old toys to old terrain pieces and accessories that I already had. Since then, we've begun to sculpt, cast and use our own resin accessories and detail bits, so any crates, pallets, drums, skulls, pipe fittings, electric boxes, Etc. you see in any other pictures are from our first generation of original sculpts.

Don't worry Nerd, we aren't going anywhere! Just drop a line when you're ready and we'll work out a schedule. Although it should be mentioned to anyone who may be interested and undecided, that our commission queue is growing rapidly. Please contact us if interested in a project, as we're already scheduling into next year (depending on the size of the project.)
