See, I think this is where your problem lies.

Meh, I don't give a feth what anyone else thinks and I've never been called creepy. Of course being blond, blue eyed, naturally good looking, wearing normal close, and being well spoken helps.

Judging by your post, that would be my best guess. You don't know anyone here, yet your willing to bare your soul. If you extended that to your real life, and you were talking to me (for the sake of argument), I'd be like 'uh, why's this guy giving me his life story?'.

Just my opinion, feel free to disregard.

It's hard to tell on the internet, but you sound a little depressed. If you are, you should talk to someone real. That could explain why basic upkeep seems like such a chore. Also, out of left field, but any chance you're gay?

Anyway, I feel like a lot of the people on here are totally similar to you... So some of the advice they give is probably worthless. The only thing I can really recommend is that you just be yourself. Worst comes to worst, you aren't accepted and live the life of a hermit. Best case scenario, you find some guys to play fantasy football with and have a nice american life

Well buddy, ignore their ribbing and internet jokes. Be yourself, stay upbeat, and maybe cool your jets a bit. Perhaps you're too outgoing in today's jaded society. I know I'm contradicting myself, but try being a little shy? No, that's horrible advice. Never mind. Be yourself. Get rid of any facial hair. Be yourself. Eventually you'll find other like minded people, or current people will get the message and accept you for who you are.

Depends on the coat, the man, the location, and the weather. Mistcoats or penny coats are better alternatives for all but the worst conditions. Trenchcoats have a (deserved) bad reputation for being worn by social misfits.

@OP: I completely sympathize with you! I really have a hard time not be earnest about everything, though I have gotten better at starting friendly conversations. I just get rid of the excess intensity in me by writing poems, which really helps BTW. Of course, it does NOT help when I am asked where I go to school, and I respond by saying I am homeschooled. Seriously, the conversation goes from going really well to me be treated like I am carrying the plague or something. Of course, I live in the heart of the mid-west, and people tend to be really intolerant...

Asking gamers how to not be "creepy" is like asking alcoholics how to not drink: not the best idea (especially on an internet forum which tends to bring out the self-titled comedians and internet cool guys) ever...

Seriously, I think your issue might be mild to moderate depression. Perhaps call a hotline or seek out a local therapist for advice.

This comment honestly makes me wonder,do "gamers" really have such a low opinion of their fellow "gamers"?
I'm honestly not attempting to troll here...I've pondered this for a few years and it still perplexes me when I see comments like "asking gamers for advice about women/not being creepy/any normal social activity/etc,is a waste of time."
Perhaps it has something to do with the fact I didn't discover "Wargames" until I was 30 that this viewpoint seems ...counterproductive to me...but I honestly don't get why the attitude that "gamer=socially incompetent goof" seems to be so strongly held by some "gamers".

You have a thread in which an individual exhibits and expresses some identifiable level of emtional distress and what is a pretty clear call for help and half the responses are lame jokes and jabs at his expense. Do the math.

IF this guy truely is bothered by events in his life and is experiencing some level of mental/emotional anguish as a result then yes he needs to seek the advice of qualified providers, not subject himself to the witticisms of internet cool guys that are having as much fun mocking and dismissing him as offering any sincere advice.

Perhaps in some cases, but since I started gaming I've met a lot of perfectly "normal" individuals, they have girlfriends/wives,active social lives, work "normal" jobs, participate in sports, musical projects...what have you.
The only "strange" thing about them is they take time now and again to paint and game with little toy soldiers.

True...but after receiving some,IMO,fairly sound advice, the OP went on to comment that he couldn't be bothered to change some of the habits he felt made other individuals view him as "creepy".
So...is it a genuine search for advice? or a "Hey..feel sorry for me" thing?

And...that is in a single thread,my overall point was that I've noticed a fair amount of " loathing of gamers by gamers" over many threads on many forums.

As much fun as you seem to have being pedantic, let's get at the root intention of your original statement. You were saying that this forum isn't a good place to look for advice because people make "lame jokes" and whatnot. I'm saying that the OP got plenty of good advice and maybe a laugh or two out of the deal. The tie dye pajamas were hysterical.

Don't forget the projection of "gamer self-loathing" onto other gamers! That seems to come up pretty often as well.
