Yes, sometimes when I hear that one, I actually think of some of the bullies I knew, and whilst most of them are indeed locked into a life of chavism now, some were highly successful.

Personally I prefer the lesser known "They have no affect on my life now, bar constant friending on Facebook" thing.

Personally, I would have contented myself with the fact that unlike all of the donkey-caves that hung around my school (half of them doing one form of drug or another) I actually managed to accomplish something.

And pointed this out in as vicious a way I could (whether subtle or not) any time they tried to start anything.

But then, spite is a very good motivator.

See, but I'm not a very vengeful person and I'm not really concerned about making others jealous, being more concerned about living a self-fulfilling lifestyle. Plus, I don't really consider myself above or lower than

Read that comment again. I have nothing against people wanting their food cooked a certain way. Its when they get their food and everyone at the table is enjoying their meal, and the one dick in the corner is sitting there saying "Eh, this steak is terrible, its just way to dry, and look the color and texture is all wrong, and there is a little bit of pink in the center, I wanted medium well and this is clearly medium, and its over seasoned, and yadda yadda yadda." If the steakk is bad, we get it, you can go ahead and say so, its when you spend the entire time we are sitting their eating complaining about it that I have an issue and tell the guy to stfu and deal with it.

I DID. You don't say that, you say complain.

That's not complaining, that's bitching.

Your wording suggested something entirely different than your clarification.

My bad, to me the words mean the same thing mostly, just one is used in a more derogatory manner.

If you were as heavily abused as you claim, then you have little credibility when it comes to judging popularity. It is a strange, but predictable, mistress which generally sides with those folk who have groups to begin with; making said folks more popular than those who lack any group.

Well, lets put it this way. None of the kids who picked on me ever won the popularity contests that come with high school (student government, prom queen/king (then again, i didn't go to prom, so I don't know who won...), etc. All the kids that were star football players/class president, etc. pretty much ignored me. Given the chance I don't doubt that they would have bullied me, but my guess I was to pathetic for them to even notice.

In fact, most of the kids that picked on me were arrested/suspended regularly for drug/alcohol use (on school grounds no less), dealing, fighting, being disruptive in class, etc.

Also, being a star student doesn't necessarily make administrators love you. Indeed, it often makes them resent you. If you want them to love you, then you do things which help them profit.

Well, if they resented me, they sure didn't act that way. When a teacher walks into a classroom and sees me jump on top of another kid and start waling on his face, and yells at the OTHER kid (not nearly as bad as it sounds, he had been punching me in the back of the head every so often for the previous five minutes or so and wouldn't stop and I had reached my breaking point by then) and sends him to the principals office, you know you're on his good side. Generally I wouldn't go out of my way to look good, but I pretty quickly became the 'go to guy' when the teacher invariably asked the class a question and got blank stares for an answer.

So from the teachers viewpoint all he sees is:

Student A attack Student B.

He promptly blames the victim/Student B and without question sends him to the Principal. Did this teacher use to post on Dakka by any chance? If that's how it went down, then that teacher is a jackass. There must be more contextual evidence.

And yeah, having one kid always be the one with the answer doesn't mean they like you (though they could, how would I know). It's actually a big no no here for a teacher to encourage/condone just one kid giving answers.

Well, to be fair I don't know exactly what happened. He pulled me off of the other kid, brought me outside, asked me for my side of the story (because he knew me well enough to know that this was uncharacteristic behavior of me) heard my side of the story, walked back in the room and closed the door behind him, and then a minute or two later brought the kid out made him apologize, gave him a verbal dressing down, told him not to lay a finger on me ever again, and sent him to the office. I don't know if the other kid confessed or if the others kids in the class confessed for him. Either way, I didn't get in trouble for defending myself, even when on first sight it appeared that I was the attacker, and I rather enjoy that fact.

And yeah, having one kid always be the one with the answer doesn't mean they like you. It's actually a big no no here for a teacher to encourage/condone just one kid giving answers.

I know, my aunts and uncles are all teachers, I know how the system works, which is why I wouldn't answer unless asked directly/ the teacher started begging ("Does anybody have any idea?") or the teacher started flipping a gak (you know, the whole "What the hell is wrong with you guys, why don't you do your fething homework" speech?). In any case, I was also usually the best behaved student in class as well. Its hard to be disliked when you're the only one who shows up on time regularly, always has all his work done, doesn't talk/text/chew gum in class, doesn't make inappropriate comments and remarks, and treats the teachers with respect. I'm still on speaking terms with several of my teachers from way back when to this day, seems kinda silly to me to keep in touch with a student you didn't particularly like, no?

And this thread is quickly turning into a "what was your life like in high school" thread, lol

True. But it's comforting for certain people to think that their tormentor will end up morbidly obese, and unemployed in a trailer park. Unlike the harsh reality where the former bully is doing well and the victims are still sitting around on the internet posting about people that don't even remember them.

waling on his face doesn't necessarily mean I inflicted any amount of damage, considering that this kid was easily double my weight and about a foot taller than me at the time, he prolly woulda killed me if the teacher hadn't shown up. Also worth noting that this is the same kid that tried choked me out in the middle of class. Just because I tried defending myself doesn't mean I wasn't abused, theres a reason why I got the "Most likely to shoot up the school" superlative (unofficially of course, teachers would never actually allow that in the yearbook), everyone has a breaking point, and I probably hit mine two or three times during high school and (tried to) get physical. Honestly, nothing is exaggerated, every bit of everything I have posted (in this thread) is true, whether or not its the whole truth is a slightly different manner. I'm trying my best to not look like a complete nancy boy (because God, was I a pathetic little feth back then). So yes, in some respects I am trying to be an 'internet tough guy', but only because I'm really embarrassed by a large chunk of my life.

Did I say anything about shedding tears for this guy?

No, it's an example of how if someone can't psychologically handle the situation, they remove themselves from it.

If you and jp400 can't accept that as a solution(or "buy it" as he puts it), it's your hang up, not mine.

And once again, it's his own fault for thinking he was a bad ass and then getting put in his place. Psychologically, if your story is true, he should have learned his lesson of getting whipped by someone when he insulted her Boy Friend. Maybe he should have thought about it instead of running his mouth, and it's his own fault if he got thrashed in such a way that made the entire town know about it.

Sounds a bit like:
For he led us, he said, to a joyous land,
Joining the town and just at hand,
Where waters gushed and fruit-trees grew,
And flowers put forth a fairer hue,
And everything was strange and new;
The sparrows were brighter than peacocks here,
And their dogs outran our fallow deer,
And honey-bees had lost their stings,
And horses were born with eagles' wings:

But it might be a different adventure Charlie

Context is everything. Being thick skinned (I never said manly) does not make me a badass , it just means that I have a higher tolerance for abuse (and as a matter of fact I do have rather thick skin on my hands and feet, mostly from callouses while working. To pre-empt you, that doesn't make me a badass, it means I've done manual labor). waling (actually, is that even a word?) on someones face after they've punched you in the back of the head repeatedly likewise does not make me a badass, all that means is that I acted in self defense. Now, had I said I broke his nose, shattered his jaw, then yeah, I would say thats kinda badass, but I didn't. To my knowledge the kid didn't even really bruise up.

If thats what it takes to be a badass in your world, and you don't consider yourself to be a badass as a result, then I feel sorry for you, by that standard of measurement, even Steve Urkel (of Family Matters fame) is a badass. Kids got thicker skin than a dragon.

Then let me make it simpler for you.

I'm saying that you set the standard for what it means to be a bad ass very low if you think I'm claiming to be a bad ass based off of me saying I have thick skin and that I tried defending myself.

I went further and hit you with a veiled insult by saying that you either consider yourself a bad ass as well (and are therefore a hypocrite) based off of such low standards (qualities that a very large portion of the population possess), or that you don't consider yourself a badass meaning that you don't also possess these qualities, and as such would overreact to the simplest of insults and wouldn't raise a finger to stop someone from attacking you, I.E. you're a total wuss.

I went even FURTHER by implying that based off of your standards for what it means to be a badass (being thick skinned and willing to try defending yourself), Steve Urkel, perhaps the biggest nerd ever seen on a family sitcom, is apparently a bigger badass than you.

Does that clear it up?
