If they're $10 for 10 Spess Muhreens or $15 for a poseable dreadnaught, they could paint it fluorescent pink for all I'd care. I'd still buy a metric truckload. A little Simple Green would fix up the paint jobs in a jiffy

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

Yeah, frankly, if it means getting a decent 2000+ point army for half the price of what one costs now.... pre-painted figures would be a small price to pay, IMO. You can always repaint them. It might unfortunately also be accompanied by a dumbing-down of the rules, but it's not a sure thing.

And who WOULDN'T want 40K action figures? Huh? Huh?

Runnin up on ya.

Not to mention all the people that complain about unpainted armies would have to find something else to whine about.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Simple - a lack of gamer painted armies!

I personally dislike pre-painted stuff more because I disagree with the painted-by-cambodian-slave-children aspect, but honestly they'd be a godsend for playing versus Little Jimmy Smith:

Oh, he just bought a 2000 point Space Marine Army Box and want to play a game? Yay, my competition is assembled and painted despite being unable to pick up a paintbrush!

Have you people gone INSANE? Warhammer actions figures would completely ruin it, part of the fun is building and painting your models. Pre-painted models made in sweatshops are and immoral. Apart from all this, do you want to see five year olds in gaming clubs buying action figures? What's wrong with you people?

Yeah, it's the 20+ year old nerdy college male. I was guilty of it til Hasbro VIOLATED the dark-star of Marvel's back door by making crappy versions of Marvel Legends, making me quit. Feth Hasbro.

If Hasbro takes over Warhammer, I'll quit this game too. Hasbro can rot in the deepest pits of hell. They ruined Magic, they ruined Marvel, and I've heard they ruined D&D. Somebody needs to put them down. Hard.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It sounds pretty much the same if you say it with a gob crammed full with their mix.

Or whilst chewing on 12" action figure if that is more one's preference.

I didn't say I'd like pre-painted figures, I merely said I could tolerate it if they were accompanied by a massive price reduction. And you can still re-paint them, it's not like there's a law against that. As for sweatshops, well... good luck buying stuff not made in a sweatshop anymore. Welcome to globalized capitalism.

Action figures are totally unrelated to gameplay. I can only see releasing badass 12" action figures like this as a good thing:

Remember, I did qualify it with a McFarlane-esque descriptor (Todd, not Seth).

Five-year-olds do not buy those kinds of action figures. Besides, 40K is already full of 10-year-olds, and when pre-painted figures like Heroclix and Star Wars minis were at their height... the majority of people playing them were still older teenagers and adults. And as for "five-year-olds in gaming clubs buying action figures?" What the bloody hell are you on about? Most of these pre-painted games are pretty simple, but none of them are so simple that a five year old can grasp them, nor do five year olds buy action figures, nor do five year olds go to gaming clubs.

Methinks someone takes his plastic space toys a tad too seriously.

Hell, back in the "golden days" of GW, they had many different boardgames that were available at toy shops like Trolls In The Pantry which pretty much was a kid's game.

Infinite array is right dude, I'd hate to put a bummer on your parade but we are grown people playing army men with rules someone produced for us. The reason why we play by these rules cause its either those rules or a "my dad can beat up your dad" rule set. Which still happens from time to time when there is a rules dispute. Dont get me wrong the models are gorgeous and them being painted actually raises the aesthetic of the hobby. But who are we to say that less people to play with is better? I'm a dad and love playing with my son and I have meet just as many annoying adults as I have kids. However I think its the maturity of the people in your club that decides its atmosphere not the dollars it requires. If you club is laid back and not full of social inepts you will draw many different people. And you know those social inepts, you might learn a thing or two from them and they might learn a thing or two from you. This way its not just a hobby club its a scene where friendships are made and people grow together. But if you club is full of social inepts and nerd elitism than its only going to draw those sort of people.

Okay, I was wrong about small children buying action figures and about products not bought in sweatshops (Come to think of it, if GW used sweatshops, they'd probably make more than 6% profit ), but I still think it'd be a lousy idea and ruin the hobby for me.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually, my club isn't that bad, most of the people are quite fun and mature both in and outside of the hobby, but tbh, there is the odd 10 year old, not all 10 year olds that freqent the place, but the odd one or two, that everyone, even the store manager, would probably like to I don't think violence against children is condoned on here, so I'll say no more

See, that's a fair assessment.

For me Games Workshop is already ruined. The hobby itself is fine, but Games Workshop has really shot themselves in the foot (or head).

Really, my preference would be for GW to get their heads out of their asses, update armies with more consistency, end their ridiculous information blackout (which doesn't seem to be working anyway), reduce the overall price of armies by, say, 1/3 ($600+ for a 2000 point army is, IMO, fairly unreasonable), and end their bizarre disconnection from their customers.

But for me, getting annihilated, bought out, and replaced with cheap pre-paints, while certainly not the best outcome, would be acceptable.

Of course, if it was indeed Hasboro who bought them out, and if there are real Warhammer fans at Hasboro, it might not be as bad as all that.

But this is all truly wild speculation, as GW isn't dead yet. Barring some insane unforseen catastrophe, they won't be dead for quite some time.

With all this said, I actually don't know why GW doesn't license action figures, t-shirts, etc. I would think this would be an excellent way for them to increase profits.

As for Hasbro. Well, MB Hero Quest is still a damn fun game.

Why indeed. It makes one wonder why on the release of one of the biggest computer games of the summer in 'Space Marine' the company isn't doing anything to draw more players into stores to pick up GW games. Do they even have a marketing department? They should be running promotional offers, everything from sales offers on starting sets, to a website that combines the computer game with the tabletop one, unlockable codes and artwork in the game that links to painted minatures, battle reports, black library and the like. It's shameful that they aren't doing stuff that would be year 1 basics for anyone doing a degree in marketing.

Regarding Hasbro, the issue did raise its head some years ago, I believe after the LoTR bubble had burst. As it is, the head office of GW already holds their customer base in contempt, to be honest in terms of the policy enactments that have come through over the past couple of years, I don't think we would be any worse off. It will still be a core of creative guys, doing their best, while being shepherded to whatever will create the biggest profit margins and with virtually complete disregard for the games systems, balance, or making what the fans want.

Actually, I think Hasbro has a little more respect for their fans- it's something you can see in how they're putting hints of shoutouts to Bronies in actual advertisments.
