One of my biggest deception about the fort is that I couldn't grab a proper squig on ebay to add a squighouse and a "beware uv' squig" sign...

You can always make that separate later, but it IS an awesome idea, it would make a nice little touch!

Thanks to Skalk, I grabbed some squigs on ebay, and this afternoon Ifinally made the squighouse and the sign:





I've also worked on the 1st floor scrap:


It ends brutally, because I'm not sur I want to do this all around the fort.

So, what do you think?

Ho ho, that squig pen is a beautiful touch.

I cast my vote for continuing the scrap layer on top- I love it. It looks very orky and makes the place look a little more haphazardly fortified.

Yay Squig! Only advice I have is to make "squig tooth" marks. Think of an insane dog and what the doorway to his house looks like.

I totally love the idea of the squig-house. You should add piles of bones on the floor all aroud it.

The Fort looks great and so orkish, painting it should be funny. I assume you'll apply tons of weathering on it, won't you ?

Hey, I have been following the construction of this fort silently, but I notice that hasn't been an update in a while. Is the fort done and painted yet? It really inspired me, I've been working on my own fort lately.

To avoid to get the fort damaged at home (because I don't have a proper storage capacity) I left it at my parents' place with my ork stuff and my airbrush.
It's been primed with a GW grey textured undercoat and I'm planning to airbrush it within the next months. I've added tank traps and I'm planning to add shooting positions from the trukk on each side of the main door.

Since I'm not often at my parents, there won't be much done in a while, but as soon as I'll have paint all my currents CSMs projects I'll start to build Ork Bulkhead using dsteingass' awesome measurements and the Gorkamorka watchtower realeased in an old White Dwarf.

If you wish, you can post here pics of your own fort, I'd be really glad to see how you're working on a similar project, and it could be motivating for me to
see your progress.

I re-measured and fixed the drawing, I still seem to be missing 1mm somewhere I can't quite figure it out, so I split the 1mm on either side of the ladder, more room to fudge the numbers there I supose.


This was a good excersize to reverse engineer the thing, I can tell that the GW Studio guys at the time must have had a bunch of metric strip material when they designed the master. I think 1995/1996 was too early yet for Computer-designed injection molding, but I could be wrong.

After almost six month painting CSMs, I feel the urge of working with plasticard again, so it's time to bring this thread back to life!

The next step of my Gorkamorka buildings project is the Ork watchtower released in White Dwarf 15 years ago (US issue 214, don't ask me for the other countries ref )
Here's what I'm talking about:






I've just started yesterday to work on it, rebuilding the front pilars:


I'll try to finish the rear pillars tomorrow, before giving a try to a variant of the riveting technique I've used on the fort.

what an awesome looking fortress the squig guard dog is a nice touch. gives the while thing that little extra it needs to bring it to life. Cant wait to see if finished and all painted up

I've nearly finished the rear pillars, but my plasticard cuttings are crappy and I'll have to fill some spaces.
Considering the lack of time I have to work on it I've decided to build the last pillars my own way.
When the pillar supporting the "nest" will be done, I'll work on the platforms and cover.

I'm planing to put a large searchlight on the main platform, and a rather chaotic ladder (or rather an mix of various ladders) on a pillar. Anyone has a fun idea of what I could add to the watchtower?

Got any barbed wire?

This!!! That is an excellent idea. Although I would suggest it be a piece unto itself so itdoesn't take up space in the fort. The should land in a big mud puddle. I can see an ork going down the slide shooting 2 sluggas in joyful glee ala yosemite sam. Orks do like rockin' and lootin' but every once in a while they need to do some muckin' about.

Your work on binging this fort back to life has been an awesome journey, an awesome piece of terrain to make the mekboy in all of us green(er) than normal and inspired (by Gork or Mork, who knows)
