I've bought from TrollTrader in the past. Got a bag of Skaven bitz for £15, was reasonably happy with it. Had a couple of metal minis, a few of the monkeyrats, and lots of weapons, arms, banners, etc. Got the Island of Blood Warlock Engineer for £1.49, and 10 40mm bases for £1. Postage on top, I still felt like they were worthwhile purchases.

So, yeah. I'm not saying the guy doesn't list things for stupid money, but he does some okay deals, too. I'm happy with what I got. Sounds like he's someone to avoid if I want older minis, though.

At first glance, seems ok, but then you check the premium they added for shipping - $12 for a single mini!

Also, the "Pro Painted" and "PAINT JOB: 9.5" just made me laugh.

If you buy 'new' from TrollTrader they are usually pretty good deals. I got one of the MAS District-5 apartment blocks, and they were £20, which is as far as I know the cheapest in the UK. Like you say though, beware the older OOP stuff (although to be fair, they are generally very highly priced on ebay these days).

It's a shame you can't post comments on auctions like you can on Youtube or such. Some of these auctions make me seriously question the sanity of the people posting them. Are they delusional? Are they aware that most of the time they have to pay fees just to put the auction up? It's just frustrating to know that such "less than averagely smart" people exist.

So true, when i see someone selling at a stupid price, i always click on other sellers Items and often see not a single offer on 20 or so auctions.
I know that for alot of people the minis mean alot to them and it would take a decent offer for them to part with it, I guess they are opening the ads just to see if someone will be stupid enough.
My pet hate is when they tot up the prices that everything cost and then start it a little cheaper, not realising that the fact the models have been assembled already (normally quite badly) and covered in about three thick layers of paint takes the value down alot.

Honestly, I find it amusing that people get so upset about how others run their auctions and sales. It's almost like many people take it personally.

When I see something ridiculous, I simply chuckle and move along. I just can't see how it's logical or healthy to get bent out of shape about it.

Fair enough.
Probably a simple difference in communication styles across the pond, then. The term you describe would be called a "pet peeve" over here. "Pet" is simply a word used to describe something favored or preferred. Typically, the word "hate" has a pretty common definition here.

I don't necessarily agree. Now, I'm not saying that it's worth the money. I didn't take the time to compare the model price vs. auction price to see how much they're charging for the painting, but I don't think the painting looks bad at all. I've seen commission painters - people who paint models for money with a growing client list - who don't do that good a job. "Pro painted" doesn't bother me in that auction at all.

While that may not be a 10/10 paint job, it is a fine above standard tabletop quality job. I don't see why you would need to strip it, it looks fine to me. That may not mean that the pricing for it is right, but it is worlds better than most "pro" painted things on ebay.

"Pro painted" is so misleading anyway...
Pro is short for professional. So as long as you have taken money in exchange for painting, you're a pro painter - no matter the level of painting you've got.

My buddy could pay me $5 to prime and basecoat his army, and I can call myself a pro painter.

Strictly speaking, this is untrue.
To be a professional painter, it would have to be your profession; your job; your means of support.

You could not accurately describe yourself as a professional painter in the example you give above. You could describe yourself as a commercial painter, at best. Commercial and professional are not synonymous, though they are often treated as such.

@MM: I agree with that. For example, a baseball player who plays in the minor leagues, but has to work at Kroger in the off-season to pay his bills would, at best, be considered "semi-professional."

pro paintjob, yes its misleading, im a good painter and would never call myself a pro painter, i can paint to eavy metal standard easily, so when i see "pro painted" i expect that they are at least eavy metal standard, but i do understand everyone has diferent standards they are willing to accept

I should also say that there are varying degrees of "professional" paintjobs. Some are very basic with no shading or highlighting, others are Golden Daemon winners, and there's everything in between.

I'd honestly be careful if you've ever brought/plan to buy anything from the TrollTrader.

A few years ago i brought various Necromunda models from him which included a group of 5 Necromunda ratskin braves, when they arrived i admired them for a few days then promptly put them away with the rest of my ratskins.

A few months later when the urge to gaze upon them kicked in i noticed i had 2 copies of one of the braves, an original that i purchased from GW and the model that i purchased from trolltrader. After browsing the two i noticed that the one from trolltrader was a fairly obvious recast, it was made from an easily bent metal and it was noticeably thinner than the original GW model.

Unfortunately i had already left him feedback so couldn't take any action, so be warned that anything ever purchased from the Trolltrader could potentially be a recast.

I think that's because TrollTrader buys off other players, then sells them back. I've gotten a fair number of minis off of him and I haven't had any issues (then again, I have to pay Canadian prices here so everything looks like a steal).

Maybe he was trying to type "2.00"?

To be fair, he did revise it and tell people not to buy-maybe ebay was going to charge him to change the price/take it down early? He's just gonna let it run the clock. He probably meant 9.99. For 12, that's not such a bad price, either.
