The worst I've seen was a person running a bret army composed entirely of Goblin Spiders. There were no riders either mind you...just those damn spiders!!
Even the characters were just spiders, and his peg knights were spiders in trees.
It was a well painted army but when there's nothing other than spiders and you have no idea what unit is what and where the characters are let alone what characters they are its quite terrible.

YO DAWG... I HEARD YOU LIKED SPIDERS... SO I PUT SPIDERS ON YOUR SPIDERS, IN YOUR SPIDERS, SO YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SPIDER IS A SPIDER!!!
I've seen a friend of mind who plays Blood angels with a completely painted set of Blood letters and Chaos. He even played it for the 'Ard boyz tournament. no one gave a solid care about it. He's a solid gamer. Here is a blog

I once played against a unit of 100 spider riders back in 5th ed WHFB which were empty bases.
This isn't a terrible proxy - it's MODELLING GENIUS.
I've been threatening to build an army like this for ages. There was a guy on here recently who was building a Tzeentch daemon army of 'gelatinous cubes' out of melted polystyrene - they actually looked amazing...
These aren'y proxies in my book - they're a fantastic, characterful counts-as army which someone has obviously put time and effort into...
I personally came face to face with this army in vegas, a guy tried to enter a tournament with them and got told off by the TO. We hung out with him after the regular games.

Victory is not the most important outcome. Enjoyment and excitement is the best outcome, victory is sweeter when it was fun.
Anyone else wanna see the blood army above fight the spruecrons?
My worst was probably when my opponent tried to use a picture of his ex girlfriend as a nurgle greater daemon, I think they had a bad break up lol

Has anybody plans to update the Sprue crons for 5th Ed yet?
"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Isn't the Brettonian army mostly composed of X knights, Y knights, Z knights, and flying knights; with knight characters?
I can't see how this would be much more complicated than a standard Brettonian army.
At one of my FLGSs I once saw a guy with a piece of graph paper with the word "elves" written on it. I had to walk away to keep from laughing!
I'm usually okay with proxies (to a point), but this was taking the concept a bit far...
"I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me." -Adam Savage
I once used decks of Magic cards to proxy land speeders, with heroclix minis standing in for terminator squads in a space marine army, but that was because it was only after the hour and a half train ride did I realize that I'd left one of my foam trays at home...

Ah, I've still got one of those somewhere! The thing I love about that one is that a cardboard cut-out is about as lazy and inappropriate as you can get, and yet it was officially sanctioned, while cans of deodorant and yoghurt pots weren't! Man, that would have been awesome if my 2nd Ed box came with free toiletries, but, nope, it came with cardboard and a little clippy base. This is the "best" pic I could find of it - you can see the Ork "Dread" right in the middle. Anyone got a clearer pic?
Actually, now that I think about it... Is this "model" still legal? Older models are still allowed, so long as they're WYSIWYG. Somebody needs to roll up to a tournament with one of these bad boys (or maybe a whole bunch of them!) and find out.
Someone at my FLGS tried to convince me (back in my early days) that d6s were acctual GW sm drop pods- i fell for it and was owned by miniature drop pods with nothing in them, exept for whirlwind launchers (YAY FW)
a rhino as a chimera
eventualy my FLGSGW staff got wind and halted it. said rhino is now undergoing conversion to a COLOSSUS SEIGE MORTAR. tremble all you MEQ and cover loving players for i shall squash you like the maggots you are .

To be fair, size wise it was similar, and we allow proxy's in our gaming group as there is only four of us and this hobby is expensive.

I proxied my skaven for a Chaos Dwarves army out of Tamurkhan. Warp Lightning cannons for Deathshriekers, a rhino chassis (with a minotaur ogre loader) for the mortar, a doomwheel for a Skullcracker, and a bunch of rats as dwarves.
I used to use a full squad of old-school Striking Scorpions as a squad of lootas. I would inform my opponents that they were REALLY good at looting. At least they were green...
The oddest I've witnessed was a squadron of vendettas represented by a paperback 40k book, a shoe and 3 warjacks of some description standing end-to-end to come to approximately the right length. I try not to play Proxyhammer myself, it can get confusing and is I think a little unfair for your opponent. At most I've had one variety of Marine stand in for another i.e. this Devestator is in fact a Sternguard, the Sanguinor is actually just an Assault Sergeant etc.

@Bellathrom: That is amazing! Those the blind-bag ponies, or something else?
Though I'm not so sure a Pegasus would use a forehead blade- I'd imagine something more like wing edges. And you missed a golden opportunity there- you could have put Dash in her 20% Cooler outfit!
