Thanks man, I've just got to live up to this one in my new diorama!

It's at 99% right now. Add some pooled water and it will be absolutely insane. Good diorama pieces have their own narrative, and this one seems extensive. I also like that there's no real clues toward what the danger is, no crazy tyranid claw marks or " chaos wuz here" graffiti. Maybe the IG that were deployed here were silenced by the Inquisition for something they've seen, and there's a Paladin in there waiting to force weapon this poor guy to death. Just solid work.

There is pooled water, but I haven't got any close up pictures. I could add some more though. Thanks for your awesome comments. I like the idea of the IG being silenced. That's cool.

Seriously nice work dude, this is probably the first diorama that i've actually thought 'cmon what happens next!?'...it's barren, desolate, suspenseful and in my mind 'windswept, cold and lonely'. Exactly where a guardsman would prefer not to be.

You should make this into a series.

Thanks so much for your wicked comments. I was already prepping to make my new diorama, but you've stalled me by saying "you should make this into a series". That's a cool idea. Maybe I'll make this one first then make this into a trilogy?

I'm flattered, seriously. Thank you. I am a filmmaker by trade, a writer and director of [science] fiction to be specific. I've always been interested in "mini craft", if you like, so it's great to hear all the film work bleeds through here too.

And that really is the beauty of this piece: the ominous feeling of the unknown. IS the guy a little jumpy and has nothing to fear, or is he about to get his face torn off?

Every viewer is left to decide.

You captured it perfectly.

Absolutely. I'm over-the-moon that people have recognised that fact, I really am.

Today I, finally, decided on the idea for my next diorama. Whilst I am in love with the idea of "ominous feeling on the unknown" - and I toyed for a while to do it again - I will be trying something different in my next diorama. I have already titled it "Recovery". Keep an eye on my blog for more.

p.s. I may make "Lost" as a trilogy. The "ominous-unknown trilogy".

What else is there to be said for a diorama like this. It captures a mood and the subject instantly.

You look at this guy and you know he's alone and scared. It's great that it's clear there is a dugout under there, just as a fuel station at the minimum, I love the exchange tower on the other side of the fence, but the rain soaked mucky ground, the single character, the M41-A Pulse Rifle, all tell us this has gone from bad to worse and he's still ten steps from the door. Perfectly done.

The "dead space" is what gives this diorama character. If it was filled with hints as to what the enemy might be, or littered with corpses and signs of battle would have ruined it. This leaves you with the question of...Is this guy really alone? What's out there waiting in the dark? And will he ever get back in that Sentinel of his ever again.

If not for the mediocre who would be great, and thank goodness for those who are just terrible they make even those who are mediocre look great

What a stellar review... rings so true with what I was aiming for. Thrilled, ecstatic, excited, thankful... just a few of my responses to your post. I just hope my next diorama lives up to this one.

Fantastic diorama. Really looks special, got a realistic feeling to it, very atmospheric, the painting and modelling has all been done brilliantly.

First time I saw this, all I could think was this was very, very Fallout in feel. And I meant that in a good way, obviously.

A few people have said that actually. Whilst I dig the reference - I love Fallout 3 - I can't help but think... "oh really?". Purely because Fallout has such a dry landscape... Nevertheless, I can see other areas that people draw such correlations. Thanks man, I appreciate it!

I love the atmosphere and the mud is very impressive.

The Tick: Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

I'd like to add that the pictures are really, really well done. They add quite a bit to the over-all effect, hats off to your photo skills.

The placing is really a cut above also, very evocative posing and use of space. For me, it's the roll-cage being left in the "up" position. It's like when a character leaves a car door open in a suspense movie, he's so fixated on what caused him to get out that he forgot a simple thing like shutting the door.

Lastly, the modeling is above the fold. Good color choices, I love how everything is in the same palette, without getting to dreary or bland. the scratch-built elements really fit not only with the piece itself, but also within the 40k realm.

This was a joy to look at, what a real and unexpected nice piece.

Wow... your review is fantastic - I'm touched. Thank you for your kind words. I'm thrilled you appreciate the "roll-cage" detail. I tried to take it a step further by having the door open too, but my cutting skills just aren't up to the task yet. Fortunately my greenstuff skills are adequate enough to hide the damage caused by said effort.
