The future is very dirty indeed. Seems they don't have pressure washers in the year 40k.

Great atmosphere and weathering! Really cool vibe going on here. My only advice would be that the uniform color and glossiness of the ground indicates heavy rain to me, in which cae I am missing some deep puddles in the recesses. If it isn't meant to look like rain, then I think the ground could do with a bit more color variety and some matte patches as well-

Still, compared to what you have achieved, a small criticism!

It certainly is rain. Although, I wanted it to be like it had rained rather than it is raining. The pictures don't quite do it justice with how wet everything is, if you see my blog @ http://www.gearboxfilms.co.uk/rustyrobot there are a few more pictures detailing the wet ground. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks man, I appreciate that. The pilot is actually from a independent company here in the UK. They are called Hasslefree Miniatures. Fantastic minis. I spent a long time searching for a good mini for the piece.

Great looking, I will have to check out the blog to see if you gave tips and techniques. I like how well all the earth and mud are done.

There are certainly annotations on how I achieved the effects, yes. Any additional questions you may have please don't hesitate to ask.

Dang! That is a great looking diorama. I feel kind of bad for the guy though, all alone out in the mud and whatever could be down that spooky looking hole.

I'm still considering a few ideas. I've had a few thoughts, but like this one, I don't want to rush into anything. It's all too easy to get high off the response I've had here and just start making another. I need this next one to live up to the quality of this one. I need it to be a better diorama than "Lost".

I am ready to start building, itching even, but I need that eureka idea first.

How about you do a duel for the Dakka Painting challenge? You would definately do really good!
Maybe something like this: http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lxppnxzMKp1qghk7bo1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1328561451&Signature=2c3ng2kdBq6lPWzP%2BZonZ9qLeEI%3D
or: a wild west style duel
or: http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2008/07/18/terminator-salvation-bale.jpg
or even an air duel between a thunderbolt/ lightning and a hell blade
or a chaos contemptor vs a normal one
maybe even a tank versus a demolitions squad

Interesting. I like the idea of a duel. I definitely want to keep the concept small - like in "Lost", but the scope and action slightly more... grand. Thanks for the ideas.

There's a lot of emotion in the model's stance and how your photos frame him against the entrance of the mine. The rugged dirtiness of everything is really impressive, and you've told a great story with two models and an environment. Well done.

Krieg! What a hole...

I wonder, is the Sentinel down or did the pilot just stopped to check out the building?

Either way it is an awesome piece.

Thanks for your awesome comment. I spent more time on the weathering process than the painting, so to speak. Even though these particular models are very dirty, I don't think I could ever paint something and not weather it. Glad you like it!

Incredibly evocative. You can almost hear the quiet, and his boots squelching in the mud, and the sound of his breathing. I've never seen a diorama that pulls me in so much. You just want him to be back in the warm seat of his sentinel, motor chugging away, getting far away from whatever's about to happen.

It doesn't hurt that it's photographed so beautifully. The full sequence of pictures on your blog is practically a tiny movie in itself.

Wow, thanks! That's an awesome comment. I'm glad it pulls you so much you can really appreciate the details.

Although I spent little time actually photographing, a lot of thought went into the narrative of each - and their sequence. I'm thrilled you got that.

I'm making a new diorama soon, be sure to keep an eye on the blog!

Very nice work. I always appreciate a "less is more" approach. Its a nice balancing act of knowing when and when not to add in more. A+ sir!
