Great painting and modeling.

I like that it's got suspense and narrative in equal measure.

Glad you like it man. Over the moon that people are enjoying the narrative. It's one of those "less is more" ideas.

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

'Tis something to behold. HAving just watched Birdsong on the BBC (hope you saw it, it was tremendous!) this reminds me a lot of WW1, despite the 40k setting, I think it's the mix of tension and mud, but also the suspense and yearning that comes from the figure...Great work.

You just know that poor sod is going to get it from whatever is lurking in there.

And I bet it's not female soldiers going to love him to death, most probably a Khorne daemon with an itch that need's scratching...

Great diorama!

I didn't see it. I will have to hunt it down. Yeah, it kinda is a juxtaposition of the two settings. I was concerned about the mud when I was planning, but it came out well.

Haha, that's exactly what I would do too. I think it's great you guys are bringing such feeling and emotion to the table with your comments. Thank you.

Great diorama!

They will just find an empty, rusting, sentinel and wonder curiously as to where it's pilot is... Thanks for your comments.

Which begs the question, why did he get out? Was he running out of fuel because I see there are a lot of fuel drums nearby. Perhaps he hoped to refuel from one of them? He's not dead yet.

Let me put it this way, the original title was going to be "Out of Gas".

Ghostflame wrote:Aw wow wonderful stuff...you just know something bads gonna happen to him..."NO DON'T GO IN THERE...GET BACK IN THE SENTINEL?!"

Absolutely... but you know he's gonna press on. You know he's gonna disappear into the darkness. Thanks for you comments.

I would just be running over to a barrel and getting some gas for my sentinel, the abandoned darkness is far to chilling..

I love the atmosphere of isolation and suspense you get over in this piece.

Fantastic job!

OMG -Great Job! Respect to Master!

Soldier looks into the dark - it is creepy, some small feature near entrance would be great -something like helmet, dropped rifle, something what looked suspicious and made him leave his Sentinel )))

How did you do scratches on helmet -painting or some other technique?

I am already planning my next diorama. In fact, I have just made the base.

Thanks for the props octavus. I played the with idea of putting something in the dark, but there was something a lot more ominous about having a wide opening... almost an invitation.

The scratches were really easy to do. Simply a careful small application of Charadon Granite followed by a slightly heavier application of Boltgun Metal, all by sponge.

This diorama reminds me of a shallow grave soon to be filled with a dead hooker: because I'm diggin' it.

You've got a great eye for dioramas. Normally, I'm supremely picky when it comes to dioramas. This one seems like it's actually catches a moment from a cohesive story, rather than just looking like a couple of soldiers posing for a picture. Really, really good job. They should use this as one of the pictures to teach people what dioramas should ACTUALLY look like.

When I first saw the post title with the word diorama in it, I was expecting a bunch of gaming miniatures, on gaming bases, on something that looks like a gaming map board. Most guys when they tend to post "diorama" often it's not. You sir, have a DIORAMA! And a very well thought out one too. Love the muddiness! And it's IN FOCUS!!! O...M... G... Job well done here, in case you haven't heard that already. One of the most important things about a successful diorama is that it tells a story, along with adding lots of little details and you've nailed both of them. Very good work!
