Great work! I have to agree with all the comments about color, grittyness, suspense, and use of empty space ,a brilliant piece. Everyones wondering what happens, why'd he get out? I admired the piece for awhile and, ( please dont be offended, ) as a former soldier whos been in mud and rain it struck a chord in me, ..".Theres no one around, this looks good,... man I gotta go to the can..." one of the few reasons a crewman dismounts. I know it may not be what you were going for, but love the work.

Oh my GOD!!!!! This piece deeply reminds me of Aliens and Book of Eli.

That is absolutely amazing! Quite simple but really mysterious and emotional. Love it!

Wow, that's an idea! It's great that everyone has their own interpretation of why he is out of the sentinel. Thanks for your realistic input!

I love the Aliens reference. Are you thinking of the bit with the APC and the rain?

This is truly excellent, i love it. I'm painting IG myself and I'm definitely going to steal some ideas from you. The sentinel's weathering is awesome, whats your secret?

Yeah, the APC scene. If I were you, try using water effects and pva glue or hot glue on your next model mixed with the fake mud to make it look like the mud is splashing from the rain.

Thanks for the props! Appreciate that. Glad you like the weathering too. I documented the whole process on my blog. See the post on the painting the sentinel here: http://www.gearboxfilms.co.uk/rustyrobot/?p=57

Wow. The first image had me wanting to know more. What's the story? What is this lone guardsman going to find? YOu have certainly captured a wonderful aesthetic here. Your great photography also did a splendid job of capturing the moment. Kudos! A fantastic simplicity!

Thanks! I'm so glad you have questions about it. Although, the answers are for you to decide. It's what ever you think the story should be.

The way I like to interpret it, is that the abandoned bunker he's found himself at is all to familiar. Maybe it used to be an outpost along his patrol route, which has suddenly been evicted, for some unknown reason. And of the course, the pilot has no idea, so when he rocks up to the bunker, expecting to be greeted, and get to have a quick Iho stick and a cheeky slash, he instead finds it eerily quiet.

My interpretation anyway. I really like the piece, it's very atmospheric, and it seems to have so much more impact than a crowded firefight scene.

Awesome, I love that. I guess you could say my next one is less complicated but not so simple.

The base was built purposefully for this. From a large sheet of MDF I cut out a 30cm diameter circle. I then routed the edge to give it a profile. It's definitely bigger than any GW base.

I love it. You really nailed it with setting the mood with the colors. All the open space really reinforces the 'lost' part of the diorama. the weathering is awesome too. Any oil filtering used at all?
