So, first there were rumours about Eldar or other xenos in the starter box, then there were rumours about DA vs. Chaos with cultists and a dread, and now its DA vs. Eldar?

Now I can only wish for a Chaos vs. Eldar starter box.

I think Eldar deserved to be in the box too, pity really for such a major race to be left out of an entire rules edition, it's not like they're Wood Elves or anything...

More Space Marines.. Yes I know, they have a different codex but it's still Space Marines, which is the same thing as the last box. Rather see Eldar and some other race, preferably one that wasn't in the last box.

What I'll personally never understand is why they overlooked armies like the Tau and Eldar in favour of doing Necrons.

Because the old Necron's Phase Out rule and the adjustment to the vehicle damage table in 5th Edition made them nearly useless in many player's minds? Eldar can still put out some very competitive lists. Tau is also a reasonable codex, compared to the old Necrons.

"Smoking crack" seems a bit much, I think.

Yeah, why update an almost unplayable 3rd edition Codex with only a handful of units and options, when you could instead update working 4th edition Codex with a full range of up to date models? Crazy indeed

I wouldn't wish a pre 6th edition codex on anyone but if someone has to get it then it should be Dark Angels so they can have old codexes along with the other big chapters. I will be intrigued to see if 40k get hardbound books in 6th edition like Fantasy get now. I would also suggest Tau and Eldar might get serviced earlyish the way Tomb Kings and Ogres were in Fantasy 8th edition.

Yeah just like Orks had to wait until the very end of 4th (Might as well call them a 5th ed codex), and SW's completely missing 4th.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

I'm kinda hoping for hardbacks. I really like the Fantasy books. Though I'll understand people grumbling if they do it.

On topic though I don't really buy it. If it were going to be a xenos I'd bank on Nids or Orks since they are consistant hitters for xenos and the only release without them was the failed DE one when they used it to launch a new race.

Eldar are more supported than some armies so I can't complain, but I will take what they give me. As an Eldar fan I think GW would be wise to take what is one of their best esthetically designed armies and breath some life back into them. SInce a lot of eldar fans stay eldar fans I think the sale and resale of the eldar could make them pretty good money. Please bring me a codex soon! I am beginning to believe that GW's plan it to make ugly models super powerful and the cool looking models super fail so I have to buy all of them.
As far as the Dark Angels go there are a lot of power armor armies in Marine Hammer 40k and I'm sure the box will be sought after for conversions and cheaper army collecting like any other box before it.

^^^EldarCraft I agree with you but at this point what is released is set in stone. We're just sorting out who to believe for a couple of more weeks/months. MmmmMmm Wishlist. I'd be happy if one of my two favorite armies was in the next few months, them being DA and Eldar. I don't see both happening because Haley's Comet has already passed. I'd be happiest if it were Eldar, but I just don't see it happening.

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!

Mighty G,you're right it is probably a bad idea to start wish-listing based of rumors. It would be cool to see Eldar and Dark angels in one box that I would buy a couple times over, but as has been mentioned I would be surprised if it wasn't some kind of evil horde army. As much as I hate to see the prediction of chaos postponed I do strongly doubt they'd pack two power armor armies into one box, since a stand alone release of the new chaos could do quite well. Im glad people go through the trouble to find out what they can, and we'll see what turns up. At the end of the day GW will do what they want and all we can do is hope for good game design, well timed releases and increasingly good models. So I suppose we'll se what shows up on the GW website in a couple months.

HERESY!

I've been hoping that my Deathwing will get an update for ages, and well...

I actually do believe the starter box rumour, as the Paint Set has actually got DA sculpted pieces in there. They almost always release it in keeping with the starter box marine army, so that bears good tidings.

Only 5 PA CSMs in the box?

That seems like... not enough?

Unless the armies in the starter box are being cut back drastically? A sort of anti-Black Reach?

Is the plastic Chaos Dread in still?

Perhaps they only saw five that day Alph?

I can't see how they could put enough cultists in to make up the numbers otherwise.

Five PA, only makes sense if there is a Dread, about 20 cultists, and a leader, possibly a Sorceror to make up the points.

It also occured to me earlier I'm getting ahead of myself, the book release is three months away, not th box. In all likelyhood we wont know what is in this box for certain until around September.

Well if it was a type of cult terminators, I wouldn't say no.

Reskinned Chaos Termies, when we have those already in plastic would be a bit fo a meh though.

The 5 PA CSM are most likely Chosen, with the mayority of the Chaos side being held by some form of chaos affiliated humans, such as Cultist. Hastings confirmed a plastic chaos dread, chosen and the 'cultists', but not the numbers, or any of the DA models (except that they were certainly Dark Angel specific, not generic marines, so expect lots of sculpted iconography).

Judging by the AOBR numbers, speculation is the Chaos side will be something like:
1 HQ (AOBR had 1 Warboss)
5 Chosen in Power Armour (AOBR had 5 Nobs)
20 or so Cultists (AOBR had 20 Boys)
1 Chaos Dreadnought (AOBR had 1 Dreadnought)

Which could leave the DA side (assuming Hastings is correct in that the starter will be DA vs Chaos) with something like:
1 HQ (AOBR had 1 Captain)
5 Deathwing Terminators (AOBR had 5 Terminators)
10 Tactical Marines (same as AOBR)
3 Ravenwing (Jet?)Bikers (AOBR had 3 Deff Koptas)

That would make the starter kit the same size as AOBR, with just the (jet?)bikes and dread swapping sides, while giving DA a taste of their 3 main branches of operation. Of course, inclusion of terrain or objective markers could change things around. Or if it's just a smaller/bigger box.

I'm also willing to add (and you'll need to forgive my weak 40k fu here) that the CSM in the starter are Chosen? (hope that's the right name - 40k really isn't my thing!!)...
The cultists/renegades post was me, it's just I'm nit 100% sure what their proper name is, that being said I'm almost certain I've got it right.

The rumors are crap.
This PSA was sponsored by people who actually know things

8000 points of XI Legion the Space Vagabonds, they can adapt their tactics to represent any and every Legion and Chapter as needed because they were created by the Emperor to be the ultimate tactical power. They have faked their disappearance in order to infiltrate every part of the conflicts in the galaxy.

8000 points of Tau/Craftworld Eldar/Necron because the Space Vagabonds can also emulate their wargear and tactics.

Victories: ALL
Losses: NONE (My armies have the psychic ability to conjure a cataclysmic storm whenever they are about to lose. This allows the Space Vagabonds to teleport away while releasing power waves that destroys the battlefield and so every battle is a victory)

I know most people are talking about the started box, but is anyone else interested in the ideas that we might get some new fliers.

I really hope they release pics of the Void Raven Bomber for DE. I still have one HS slot to fill and if the bomber is cool looking I'd love to include it. Otherwise another Razorwing it is.

Incorrect. Black Templars (like DAs) are just yet another minor deviation of the same old army. 'Optional' or 'Supplementary Rules', if you will.
AlexHolker is somebody after my own heart, who thinks rationally.
Think of the rate of progress 40k could make if its release schedule wasn't gummed up with a new iteration of the same army every other turn.
All they have to do is put an entry in the SM codex outlining special rules for the major chapters. Voila! Just like that we could see more of the armies that add flavor to the universe... Perhaps even see a new race! And SM players will still be satisfied... (to whatever degree SM players are ever satisfied, that is...)

I'm praying that 6th edition solves this. From the rumors, it sounds like it will be consolidating many things.

Unfortunately, the haven't yet, have they?

So, just like the Tau and the Eldar, the Black Templars and Dark Angels have older codecies that are in need of updating.
