The next codex is Space Termites in May/June/July/Decemtobernuary 201*atchoo*. I'm credible because I'm a raging alcoholic and I hear voices that claim to be GW insiders. So while the doctor may have *a* source, I've got hundreds of them.

8000 points of XI Legion the Space Vagabonds, they can adapt their tactics to represent any and every Legion and Chapter as needed because they were created by the Emperor to be the ultimate tactical power. They have faked their disappearance in order to infiltrate every part of the conflicts in the galaxy.
8000 points of Tau/Craftworld Eldar/Necron because the Space Vagabonds can also emulate their wargear and tactics.
Victories: ALL
Losses: NONE (My armies have the psychic ability to conjure a cataclysmic storm whenever they are about to lose. This allows the Space Vagabonds to teleport away while releasing power waves that destroys the battlefield and so every battle is a victory)

Actually I'm curious, what rules from SW, DE don't make sense in 5th edition?
Lukas the Trickster has a cloak that protects him from directed hits in close combat, except there's no such thing in 5th edition. In the Dark Eldar codex, there's a named character that allows you to reroll the dice to choose the deployment zone, which again, doesn't exist in 5th edition.
Funnily enough, both existed in that 'leaked 6th edition playtest pdf'.

That is exactly what I am thinking.
Both Tau and Eldar rumours for this year sound fabricated and don't fit the rest of trusted rumours.
I expect both Tau and Eldar next year and not in the starter box.
As Harry said: Chaos Legions Codex next, with some odd non-Codex releases (which is something different than a splash release!) until then.

While GW has never released Marines vs Marines *literally*...
It's obvious they don't particularly care for non-Marines; examples include Codex Tyranids, Codex Sisters of Battle, and Codex Chaos Space Marines. FFFS, Chaos are marines too, but GW still hates them.

As a Eldar player and a DA player I'd be overjoyed at the confirmation of these rumours. But Eldar, it really is coming out of right field isn't it. E vs DA box or first release hasn't been visited for a very long time. DA's almost certain, but I'm thinking that the stream of recent rumours about chaos is more spot on than eldar...as much as I like them or would like to agree with DrBored's reasons for them being next.

I don't buy this at all. I think it is a bunch of rubbish written when the last white dwarf spine became apparent.
If I was a betting man; my money would be on a 2012 Chaos release. It is a key part of 40K, and GW knows the
current codex is a failure. They want to increase revenue and quarterly earnings; a chaos renaissance would do
just that.

Boosting Space Marine Biker
|
First off, I don't think a release schedule missing a post-6th edition Codex: Space Marines release is a schedule worth giving credence to. Its their largest base of sales and I can't remember them hesitating overly long after the previous two edition releases.
Second, I agree with the above on rumor falsification. Its pretty obvious that people are being spoonfed BS or are simply dummy accounts for the purposes of misdirection. And its getting really annoying.
Finally, if GW really wants to keep people in the dark and drive down hype, let them. Stop artificially supporting them with threads like this so they can feel the actual effects of a teaser-less marketing strategy. They might actually come around if they're given a chance to recognize the failings.

Yeah it does actually.
Eldar, as an army, are not selling to new players.
Eldar already have an installed, loyal fanbase who do not necessarily need to buy anything for their armies.
If you introduce a new Codex, with new units and shiny resculpts of older units you get sales going to the fanbase and the new Codex gets those players who are not buying the current army to come off the fence and go for it.

This "Eldar in the box set to draw in girls" rumour smells a lot like the urban legend that refuses to die claiming that the Tau were invented explicitly to boost sales in Japan.
On one level they're just silly, harmless if a little juvenile conspiracy theories about what sort of person likes what sort of army.
On another level, a kinda sinister form of othering where it just gets taken for granted that any player who doesn't fit the game's main demographic needs an army or release specifically catering to them in order to enjoy the product.

Absolutely!
Put some awesome new Eldar miniatures in the box set, lots of them at a good deal.
Include a never before in plastic option like Wraithguard.
Vets buy it because it is a good deal.
New players buy also buy it because it is a good deal. And then they buy lots of other Eldar stuff.
An army which wasn't selling all that well is now a good seller indeed.
And, we all win?

If I had to hazard a guess I'd say that SOB are the worst selling army in 40K. However I'd concede that as they are generally not as 'available' as the rest of the 40k armies, this will affect the amount of players.
But of the armies that you could walk into a store tomorrow and buy, I'm actually fairly sure that Tau don't sell as well as Eldar. I spend a lot of time in many GW's across the country and definately see more people picking up Eldar stuff, whether it be new kids or people with existing armies, than I see starting or building on existing Tau armies.
Just my thoughts, but the comments about Eldar being the worst selling army and also the comment about appealing to females don't ring true, especially the latter which is just ridiculous.

If you're worried about "othering", look at what GW's already doing: how many of GW's human-like ranges treat women as non-entities? If "a kinda sinister form of othering" means releasing an army where men and women are treated as equals, then I say bring it on!
