I love this log. I had to filter it in my greedy need to take in all the converting goodness and it was worth all the hours of my life I put into reading it
The conversions are awesome, Monkeytroll, and I love seeing all the OOP stuff being put to good use. All the vehicles and koptas are great and your use of all those tiny gubbins really makes them something to behold.
One disturbing thing I noticed was that, when filtered, you started making more and more random comments. "Okay, I told myself, he must be replying to other people's posts." So I removed the filter only to discover... You might actually be slightly mad.

What's on the list of potential extra whotsits? I need to know in case a certain Aussie doesn't get a picture up pronto as I'll then need to give you extra distractions from your vehicles (but not the Trukks)

CK - Cheers. I still have chestnut, brown, magenta, and I seem to recall finding some dark green and blue recently. My favourites were the red, yellow and light blue, they were so vivid.
dstein - They stop thinking we're strange when they notice the candy though.
To be fair, they stop thinking about pretty much everything once they spot the candy. 'Candy' is about all they're thinking at that point.
PDH - Thanks man, but you do know you'll have to don't you?
lone dirty dog - I'd appreciate that. I have a few yellows, but they're all a bit anemic compared to the old GW one.
neil - I chuckled
JR - Thank you, that makes me feel all warm and tingly inside
Wait, you can't see those posts from the grots in my head either?
I'm generally posting just after a modelling session, so my heads still really intent on making tenous connections and going off at weird tangents, so my typing tends to follow the same 'logic'.
Not that I'm not like that all the time, just a bit less so.
Arakasi - Well, since you NEED to know, and it seems to be a valid reason...
Banner strung between two poles above the entrance.
Extended platform over the front.
Telescope gubbins.
Watchtower platform.
'Bridge' extensions.
Klub Waaagh!
Various dakka.
Spotlight.
Alternative roof.
Walkway to 'kopta pad (and therefore.... )
That sort of thing....
And so we have the finished basic article:
Just noticed I haven't riveted the patch on the door, or finished filling the pipe above the door. Or finished the hinges on the side hatch, or finished the worky gubbins on the side. Always that little bit to do
There's 5 mounting points on the roof for dakka, platforms and other fun stuff. The two entrance-way pipes will stay hollow to allow additional fun there too. There's also a little pipe in the ground near the door for squig or banner type fun. The socket on the vital wotsit re-jigging plant takes a plastic tube quite nicely for some more potential fun, pipe-ways running to other terrain, a socket for a bridge section, connecting to a silo, broken waste pipe etc.
Now some may have spotted there's no glyphs in evidence. I plan to add them in with various of the 'added extras'. As another example of the strange ways my modelling mind takes me, I figured that a beaten, patched outpost like this didn't automatically mean orks. It could be in necromunda or something similar. Therefore if I didn't put any uniquely orky identifiers on it it could double up.
Yes, that's right. I, the non-gamer, decided I'd build a bit of terrain that could be used in 2 games I don't play
Anyway, I had fun with that build, and there'll be more fun in the future.
No idea where I'll be puting it like, though
And now some fun shots of 9 nobs and a painboy using it as a firebase:
That's 10 bulky figures all sitting on there happily, if a tad cosily. You can probably zoom in a bit if you think you can detect any progress in their paint since their last appearance
And as they were looking on the meks decided to get in on the action and whip up a quick base:
Enjoy the pwetties
Laters.

Dam fine work Its great the way you take a handful of stuff and just create and it works love the tower I have to ask where is the razor wire you are using from
I found the name on the ink jar Daler Rowney looks like this : you get them in most art shops (I know this is not yellow but it was the first one I could get to the bat caves a real gak hole ) they take a little getting use to but with a little work I have found them to work well
Where do you get your textured plastic card from as you live in the UK and I find it a real pain the arse to find over here

Matt - Err, coz he had bits of paperand everything to show me when he asked
And thanks!
Rogue - Thank you.
ldd - Cheers! The wire is Aber 1:35 barbed wire.
Thanks for the info, I've got some of those inks, but not yellow, I'll keep my eye out.
Embossed plasticard used to come from my local games shop, as they stocked railway stuff too. Now it's shut I tend to use Antenociti's Workshop, Bits And Kits, and sometimes modelsforsale.com - but not easy to search on their site.
Fixed those little bits on the outpost, and sprayed it black. Then noticed I'd forgotten to add hinges to the main doors I'll save you the pic of a big black block.
Whilst fiddling around I came across a nearly used up RTB01 sprue
More nostalgia
I remember the day my mate and I first got these, we'd clubbed together to buy a box mail order, and the day they arrived at Chris's he came round mine before school and we never got there. Spent the morning putting 'em together in crazy ways, just like we'd seen in WD a few weeks before
So, what else to do but clip those last few bits off
....and stick the sprue to a bit of tread-plate
And stick a few things to that.
GutSlab didn't know what it was, but he knew da meks would want it. He also knew it was 'eavy. Ripped both his arms out of their sockets when he tried to drag it. Shoddy workmanship.
The 'styrene ball has been PVA'd, then sanded then PVA'd again, it won't be smooth, but I want a beaten copper look to it so that's fine. Strip from thin cardboard and helped stay in place by dress-making pins, which make nice rivets too.
That's right, going for some old-skool techniques here, check the bendy straw
It'll be a boiler-powered land-runner buggy type thing obviously. Heh.
Poor Sunday night update, but hey, I got the outpost built and primed in less than a week. Need some recovery time after that
Night all.

mullet - Your eyes are working just fine at the moment
However, if they do cause issues sometimes, I've got a lovely pair of Zeiss-Nikon augments here which the dok says youcan have at a very reasonable rate
Matt - I thought so...
CK - Thanks. It'll be getting several coats of pva, to help strengthen it as I forgot to fill it with plaster or some such. Not that I know where the paster id if I had remebered it anyway...
weety - Cheers. Just out of shot is a group of grots in rickety rocking chairs whittling some sticks.
Heh, I used to take some of my minis to art. Even had a few in my exam show, don't think they went down well with the examiner though
ldd - No problem. There'll be some more gubbinz stuck to it I reckon. Possibly even a whodjamaflip or two. And almost certainly a widget.
Which tower
genom - Thanks guy, I'll certainly try
TR - Cheers bud
It got sprayed black. Isn't that painting
I-bounty-hunt -the-elderly - Thank you sir!
So no update as yet, I've spent the last 40 minutes or so since I got home looking at dakka. So no pics.
Got a further two packages today, figured one was the vallejo orc paint set, but couldn't recall what the other might be, didn't look like one of the few presents I'm still waiting for.
Forgot I'd ordered some of The Master 's brush cleaner and preserver, recommended by several people. Then when I opened the paints, I found it was actually a vallejo wash set I'd also forgotten ordering.
See, it's a dangerous business shopping on the interwebs.
Guess I'll forgo cooking and eat a lot at other peoples over christmas in order to balance my bank err, balance.
And I still need to try and grab one more pressie tonight, Gork alone knows what I'll find coming through the post over the next week
Anyways, that's more than enough talk of my shopping, I'll go see if I can do some chopping.

Sewing pins - hadn't thought of that yet. and Styrofoam would be a great medium to work with. nor had I thought of just coating it in PVA.
Does that work well to prevent the styrofoam from 'melting' when in contact with other chemicals, model glue/spraypaint?

Zeke - They're great for terrain work, helps hold foamboard together etc. You can get some interesting decorative heads too if you look in the right places. (Embroidery shops, I'd guess, I've not come across any useful ones myself, but I've seen various examples used elsewhere)
As long as the PVA has completely sealed the 'styrene it should be good, a couple of thin coats with a drop of washing liquid in to help break surface tension should get good coverage. I'd always test glues on a spare treated piece first though, I tend to stick with more PVA or UHU.
HAZZ - Thanks! Neither really, just built for the fun of it, haven't played since RT days
CK - Yeah, I remember covering our early tables in flakes of paint off of all the industrial pipework we'd added to our terrain back then
Received a small supply package from graven today, has a few fun bits in that might get used fairly soon( TM).

at neil...lol... those SM are truly hilarious but cool looking at the same time^^
at monkey... i now have to say some things about your last two weeks worth of hobby work...
wow... you have been in a rush of creativity! and no mistake! that outpost is totally sweet! very much in the spirit of your cyborks. the new tanks you have made and the whole range of goodiness...i feel as if i have secretly already quited with the hobby compared to your output^^ i have to really get into gear again...your work is totally inspiring in some weird ways^^
by the way... the CD spiral case i have too in my scratchbuild "box" (more a tomb^^) and now i think this is a wonderful idea to use it as such a terrain piece... by the way, the tower looks already unpainted very suitable as a orky outpost... some way makes me think of a snow camo sentry tower^^
also... i wish you a happy chrimbo... the gods only knows what could be gifted to you as i think you could find good use in next to everything^^
cheers, vik

Thanks vik. It may appear to be two weeks worth of work, but don't forget I was offline for a month as well
Inspiring in a weird way? Music to my ears vik
Yep, several CD cases lying around waiting for some form of terrain to claim them, 'kopta launch pads might be ideal, and reminds me of some discussions about kopta launch/take-off further back in this blog.
And I like that you like it unpainted, that's a good attitude to take when viewing this thread
Hope you all ate, drank and made merry over the last few days
Bit more progress on the Jalopy:
Dakka platform is complete (bar wiring of course), although the big shoota option is not built yet. Went through several different takes on the platform, ranging from a high crow's nest with a boy inside, to a plain column with a gun-drone cybork similar to the hover-buggy. This version started out as a seat on one side and a gun on the other, on a small platform supported by a spindly tripod. It then started getting a bit more hi-tek to contrast with the steam(?) boiler (who knows, maybe it's actually a mini nuclear reactor) look, and ended up like this. Decided the hi-tek look needed a console on a foldable arm to finish it off.
Driver will have a set up similar to a ship's wheel/arcade driving game. Haven't decided yet on whether there'll be a foot pedal attached, or a big ol' throttle lever beside him. He'll probably be getting a hook type arm, and some sort of bionik leg, the choice on that depends on whether I go with the pedal or the lever option.
Heads came in my supply drop from graven and I figured they could pass as hill-billy militia types with a slight air of sea-dog in an orky kind of way. Sort of.
And some detail shots.
Still have the steering console, some wiring, a few more drive-gubbins, some cabling, a bit of side/rear detailing and front details to do. And a rigger or two. Possibly holding some wires.
