Pfft, it's not exactly a mystery now is it? Isn't it pretty much slam dunk that it will be the Summer of Fliers aka Wartorn Skies expansion?

nope its not that its an actual boxed game ala space hulk

Hmm, this means that there will be no fliers release this year as there is basically no place to put them in, unless they did it at the same time as the DE 2nd wave but from what I've read it is supposed to be big enough to warrant it's own release and I can't believe that if pretty much every army in 40k is supposed to get a flier.

For those that fail to understand, Murderous Skies and Wartorn Skies are NOT the same thing. Murderous Skies is what GW are calling the DE 2nd wave release, Summer of Fliers aka Wartorn Skies (was named this at FW Open Day) is rumoured to be a fliers expansion for 40k where they introduce the unit type Flier to the basic game of 40k. This rumour surfaced late last year and is said to include Tyranid Harpy, Imperial Thunderbolt Fighter, Ork Fightaboma, Tau Drones/Flier etc etc etc.
Basically every army in 40k is said to get a flier with the Valkyrie/Vendetta, Stormraven, Voidraven and Razorwing getting changed to Fliers as well.

Only place left this year to place this expansion would be together with the DE 2nd wave if it's happening at all.

ghost21, do you know if this expansion is happening at all of it the rumours of it getting split up into army releases when those get their next update?

Still, coming out August makes me sad as I can't use them for Nova. It will be my final tournament using the old book, last hurrahs! :(

i had heard the fliers thing was due as a wd release with a few flyers here n there ,

but honestly ive only seen very early prototypes of a figter bommer , thunderblot n harpy (and tbh the version of the harpy i saw was goddamn but ugly)

i dont see how they will slot in unless its jully thats the only time i can see it

i can do some digging n report back

Yes, this is what have been rumoured but that there would be quite a few kits for the initial release, releasing something like this and only have 1-2 kits would be pretty meh. Then again if they changed the rules for Valk, Storm and DEs to Fliers it could be plausible.

Dear Ghost21, I followed your rumors over at warseer, and I am glad that you continue to post on this site as well (curse that virus!). I was wondering if your offer to answer a question about a unique necron lord is still available? If I am wrong I apologize for not remembering correctly.
Sincerely, XXXXXXXXX

P.S.- a special thank you to all reliable rumor-mongers, you make the waiting so much more bearable!

I am guessing that it was also stupidly oversized and on the flying Valk base as well.

There is no norm. Many armies never got a second wave.
Tabitha wrote:Necrons (and sisters) will be like DE in terms of kits. Eldar and Tau are more like BA / wolves in terms of new stuff and BT, well they are getting some nice love too in an entirely different light.

Getting a half sized release every 40k edition or getting a full sized release every two 40k editions results in about the same number of new miniatures, only release time spread differently.
Tabitha wrote:But I think Necron players will not find themselves waiting forever to get most of the cool toys from their codex, and will be pleasantly surprised with some of the new stuff. There are some cool things now one has mentioned yet too.

Every army since 2009 except Space Wolves got something like a flyer. It would surprise me if Necrons would not get one. Seems like a bigger plan behind these releases.
ghost21 wrote:in September you get the "mystery box" ooooooooooo

This would certainly deserve its own thread, IF there was more information. Otherwise it would derail into pointless wishlisting from post #2 onward. But if it has Space Hulk production quality, I would buy any boxed game.
Knowing GW, they will release the perfect introductory game ... in a release strictly limited to 500 boxes
And the GW managers will celebrate as a huge success, if the introductory game sells out within 3 hours

Thanks for the confirmation. If you dig up anything, please post this in the "Summer of Fliers" thread (where I copied your post here):

Isn't it possible that the Monolith could get repackaged with Flier bases? It would be insanely top heavy but they do fly in pictures etc Ive seen.

They came with the 'large flier base' back when (the same one the Destroyers etc come on), but it would snap off that base on your first game :(

A sturdier base would work, but i don't think that its all that likely.

No. The Necron fleet has no attack craft at all. If it was me, I wouldn't give them an ordinary flier myself, instead going for something more like Mjolnir's first appearance on Stargate: SG1: a flier that hovers slowly and unmakes everything it can see.

Any news on what would be in the battleforce? I'm tempted to buy an additional one in case they change it to be stupid like the blood angel's one.

No news, but I believe there will be a new Battleforce (with the new sprues) and it will be inferior to the current one. Unfortunately, it appears to already be too late to buy the old one from the usual discount resellers.

Went ahead and did that for exactly the same reason as soon as i realised that they might go ahead and ruin the existing battleforce. It would be a shame to lose those 3 Destroyers.

Battleforces are released at least 6 months after the initial release, so we can't know ATM.

BTW the Necron Fleet can be seen here:

Here the smallest spaceship:

These are old designs, not sure if a new flyer would follow this style. The Tau fleet update by Forge World also had a completely different design.

Perhaps we'll get no fliers, just anti-fliers. I'm pretty sure a Pylon or Obliterator could take down a Valkyrie.

I can not imagine a necron flier but the if done properly it would be cool, the pylon has an anti tank/flier seems most reasonable.

IIRC, the Pylon in Apocalypse is an AA mount. I highly doubt we're going to get the Pylon in the new codex, but an obliterator or something might get the same treatment.

Sorry I meant the rumoured 'turret pylon thingy' some people have said they believe is coming. The Apoc pylon would be a pretty big kit to have for a standard game ROFL

There is a Necron picture by GW (I'm pretty sure) where you can see some Monoliths in the background and what appears to be some V shaped fliers around them. Not sure where it's from, think it was in a codex or a novel or something. Can't seem to find it but it has been posted in a summer of fliers thread somewhere, waarseer I think many months ago.
If anyone knows the picture please post a link to it.

As for Battleforce they will probably dumb it down to the following.
10 Warriors
5 Flayed Ones
3 Wraiths
1 Tomb Spyder or some other 1 model mini.

I think that would actually be a pretty good battleforce, but I would want at least one of each kind-the old one AND the new one. As such, I'll probably order an old one after work today. I decided I liked the Wraithwing, so I'd enjoy getting 3 wraiths in the box set. And seeing how a 3-box of them will probably be between $35-45 anyway...it'll still be a decent deal. Just not quite as good as the current one is.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

i already have one of the old sets, so i have a total of 40 warriors right now.

I will try and get one of each. I am considerign either a Wraith or Destroyer wing. Not sure which but i tend to prefer shooty armies to cc ones.
