Arakasi - Thanks man!
Gits - Thank you sir!
Anvil- It's just a basic four-claw grabber, nothing fancy, and certainly no moving parts
Rogue - Cheers, let's just hope I don't do any more damage before the whole mini gets finished
CK - Glad you approve. I never thought 'no pain, no gain' applied to model-making. Well, apart from all those nasty scalpel cuts. And those puncture wounds from chaos spiky bits. And the bits of plastic flying into the eye. And the gluing of skin to something that skin shouldn't be glued to.
Hmm, hadn't really thought that one out fully.
ldd - Makes it all the more satisfying when it actually works
That's what I keep telling myself....
Drilled a tiny length of the 1.6mm rod, filed away at the inside of my smallest hollow tube till I could get the rod inside, then stuck it to the end of the piston. Gives me a bit more movement in the arm and adds a bit of needed clunkiness to the piston - things were starting to look a little too engineered there
Need to see if I can get metallic coloured rods at this size for future use, I reckon I'm going to struggle with those pistons, not sure if the fit is loose enough to not scrape paint. Just realised I haven't added a stopper to prevent over-extension, so I'll pop that on, then start considering arms for the other side - two smaller ones I feel. Maybe with a tiny working buzz-saw on the end

Wow! Man cool as hell!!
Did i miss it mentioned? What are the metal tank tread bitz at the bottom?
I was thinking of making a servitor, the only job he is programmed to do is to repaint hazard stripes all over the underhive
That would be a perfect bit for his motive power.

Selvaggio - Indeed, the top shoulder piece of a dread Just don't hold your breath
mullet - As above
dstein - Thanks bud! The tracks are from the original rapier weapon system, they're a very nice size for a variety of things Not sure how easy they'l be to find though.
CK - Cheers! Hah. You may think you're finished with the squeaky waaagh, but the squeaky waaagh has not finished with you
TR - Thank you.
Skalk - Thanks man. The advantage of missing a few pages is it seems as though I make much faster progress Watching a small arm grow over the course of a week probably isn't quite as exciting as it seems to me
And continuing the theme of overdue work....
Cyber grot-hound for Da Konverta's of Waaagh Dakka, for those who've forgotten
Not quite finished, but back in the firing line. Details in the face and wiring, a few washes, some verdigris in the legs and probably a re-do on the scales. And a tidy up. And add the gubbinz to his side, and a couple of details on the base.
Actually, if you look back to whenever he last appeared I probably said much the same thing. But I have been working on him honest.
Heading to the London Model Engineering Exhibition tomorrow, and as I somehow appear to have got through January with money in the bank I suspect I'll be bringing stuff back with me

CK - They get everywhere I'm hoping to get painting time over the weekend, and that'll be my focus
TR - Thanks. Not suprising, he was last seen some time ago You can inded sir, the torso did originally belong to an old warhound, poor thing had to be put down, it was devoted to a squat force that had fought with it many times, and when they vanished one day it became too distraught to fight.
Will they not think of the titans?
ldd - Nope, must have me confused with someone else...I don't do hats.
Not convincingly anyway.
shaso - You know you want some articulated arms on your ARV's
HAZ - Cheers bud, I'll certainly try
So, LMEE was alright, not as big as it used to be. I went with my old man, we used to go every year, but haven't been for about 5 years or so. There was some nice stuff to look at (although nearly all of it was 'factory fresh', I prefer a bit of weathering ). The display areas for flying models and r/c trucks seemed a lot smaller, and were in the main hall, sure they used to be in another room. No water-based display, and we missed the tank demo whenever it was on, although that was a pretty small area too.
Apparently the various competitions had been cancelled this year due to a lack of entrants, so a few less models to look at.
Trade stands didn't seem as good either, only a few model vendors and nothing that caught my eye. Had fun rooting around in various tubs of various bits of hardware and supplies, but didn't bag much. I was after a drill stand for my hobby-tool, a new pair of flush clippers and a Chopper. Didnt see any. Well a few poor quality clippers, but I passed on all those.
Came away with a few clamps and forceps, a small selection of tubing/trusses/stairs from EMA, a book on model-making with styrene, and a small selection of interesting bits from various places - springs, hand-wheels, maritime ventilation tubes and the like.
And prime amonsgt those bits were these:
Brass portholes with glazing. Yummy
A few shots of random items seen:

Unfortunately they're hosted on flickr as I didn't want to upload the 50 odd non-wargaming related pics to dakka So I'm fairly sure you're only seeing links, sorry.
edit: that's not right at all Try again...
And again....
And a third time, should have links at least now.... Automatically Appended Next Post: Or I could upload a few to Dakka and post those. If you want more click on one of the links above to get to my flickr page - I'm monkeytroll on there too.

Yeah there was some cool stuff to see. That yellow steam turbine(?) was pointed out by my dad as being great for 40k, it's not much more than 50-60m high. Those boats were part of a very impressive display that ranged from viking longships to aircraft carriers, and those name tags weren't printed in a large font Apologies to anyone who goes through the flickr pics, there's a few shots of seemingly random details that I wanted for reference, may not be the most impressive aspect of the subject And Flickr seems to think it ha a better idea than me of which way up my photos should go...

I meant the mad hatter more as the approach rather than head wear maybe Doc from BTTF more then due to creative flare, shame about the event not being as good although maybe due to the economics at the moment has had an effect hobbies are the first to take the strain.
Although some of the pics look good and the Brass portholes with glazing look tops (could have done with those for my Grot Mega Tank) that was a good fined, have you plans for these or just an impulse buy ?

Rogue - Yeah, that was particularly neat I thought Definitely going to be looking at that for some pipe-work reference HAZ - It's nice stuff, let's hope I do something 'nice' with it ldd - I know, but I didn't have a snappy comeback for that I have a couple of ideas which might need those portholes, but plenty more were formed when I saw them TaWaaagh - Thanks! And too true! Zeke - I was hoping for a couple of cool kits to rip apart, but a few bits will do for now shaso - Cheers, and I should have realised it was the bridge-layer not the ARV you were thinking of dstein - Cheers bud! Let's see how long it takes for them to make an appearance vik - vaquely remember you getting something for portholes - were they brass washers? It was a while back Thanks for looking through the pics, and yes, you'd have found plenty of inspiration there. CK - What I thought So, today's session was interrupted by going for 'a cup of tea' with relatives at my folks. Four hours, several cups of tea and a variety of home-made cheese-scones and cakes later... All good, but took a chunk out of the planned hobby-time. Didn't quite get the grot-hound done. Wires need doing, think I'll re-do the gums in a brighter colour, and I still want to re-touch all the scales. Plus I want to re-do the lens on his back-gubbinz - once I put it in place I realised I'd done it pretty much upside down. Briefly picked up the jalopy. Added detail to the workings and some more wiring. Working on the arms of the driver at the moment. And started playing with some of the new bits. Not entirely sure what it is just yet - probably a buggy I reckon. Possibly flip the turret, and it'll either be a bigger track unit or possibly a large wheel at the back. I haven't checked yet how chimera tracks fit in the cannon slot. It's the front 'wheels' I like about it, those were what I mainly wanted hemispheres for, you can expect a few of those to pop up at various points. Well, that was another slow Sunday update brought to you by a bunch of gibbering grots...
