CK - What I thought
Great minds think alike? Or fools seldom differ?
I love the grot hound, and that new buggy is lookign great - I love the way you can turn random bits into a mad mek's contraption!

Selvaggio - The spheres are the front wheels - Upzag's meks seem to have a penchant for reversed trikes
dstein - One yellow, one black - ingenious
Gits - Soon as he's done I'll add him to the konverta's thread - hopefully the waaagh will rise back into public awareness
There's always a few orks ramblin' about behind the main lines
CK - Great fools maybe? I'm feeling a lot of contraptions boiling up at the moment - hard to stop bit matching and actually do something
HAZ - Let's hope it is interesting then
neil - Cheers bud, hope you're keeping well.
So, mental week this week, highlights included a 16hr day and so not a lot of actual work has taken place in the workshop. Lots of ideas, little real work. But I have a couple of concepts to air for now.
Built up a track using the Zinge industry set for the latest buggy.
After about 5 minutes I decided I didn't like it.
So I tried a wheel instead - not bad. Also tried a larger version of the spherical wheel - not bad, forgot to take a pic though.
I think I'm going to go with the wheel - probably that one, maybe another. Glued the wheel assemblies together and added plates to attach them to the hull. Haven't attached them yet as I'm toying with adding the turret extension piece, and possibly a tiny 'cockpit' at the front - just big enough to get a grot's head poking out. Also drilled out the tie-down loops - not sure if they'll still be there later, but figured I should drill them now in case there's gubbinz in the way once some real progress takes place.
And I need to find something to attach that track to now too....
Messing around with another pretty basic buggy idea.
That landspeeder exhaust system is supposed to be the main drive for this one - the scattered pieces make it hard to tell it's blu- tac'd to the hull. Simple reversed and lowered Russ hull at this stage - not all that original, but da meks will have seen so many of these over the years that a few are bound to appear. Not sure on a turret thing, a firing platform thing, or a swinging gun chair thing. I reckon I'll have a flick through IA8, look at the gun-trukks and such before deciding what this actually is
Still debating this one, the best use for the hull is as a looted wagon I reckon, and size wise it's either a transport for grots (which is still possible) or a boom-gun. I almost thought about adding tracks, but the reason I want this is to add some more hover vehicles. Do something with the cockpit, beef up the gun, sort out some engines and add a bunch of wiring - think that should do the job, along with a few glyphs and patches obviously?
Don't know where that's going just yet, but I'll be doing something with the concept - I've tried a few like it so far, but the tau legs have worked best.
The rolls were initially grabbed as potntial mono-wheel v-hickles, but they suddenly decided they wanted to be something else. What can I say, they made googly eyes at me and I succumbed to their will.
Gickr seems to be recovering from a server crash so I couldn't upload the full sequence, but I got two short versions - just for fun :
Right, back to the bit-matching...

vik - Cheers! There is an issue with some of the metal getting scraped on the pistons and extending 'wrist' - I'll either disassemble and try to widen the holes slightly or try a silver marker pen - probably a mix of both.
It's definitely the oddness that I like about that one
I've been trying various arms-as-legs variations, even built a few utilising wheels or one leg, but wasn't happy with a true walker until I tried those legs. They may end up on a nob, but I've not found a suitable torso yet. The actual body will determine if he gets dakka over the shoulder or under the waist - or maybe around the side.
Gits - Thanks man! You can blame CK's influence for the pistons
I think that's pretty much the way it's going to go, bit of good old-fashioned prop power
Still haven't quite got a cockpit sorted, switching between a rounded and a more angular design. The top will get covered in tread-plate, then get the dakka mount.
Grot driving, ork shooting - they really should learn to do it the other way round

Tau boy looks awesome but is there an argument for a mecanical hip mechanism behind his shoulders? this would push the legs slightly further back and I think I would go for over the shoulder shoota holder... the whacky prop powered caser buggy is looking good, I have the image of an almost fighta jet cockpit for the grot between the caster legs and the ork hard wired into some spinning gun mount.... Keep up the good work "but where's your rokkit riding storm grots?" feel free to tell me I'm stating that in the wrong thread...

CK - Thank you, and yes, now you mention it, it is a bit Doomish isn't it? I'm just worried that I'm going to want to articulate everything now. That and make it swappable Couple of years per mini, should have an army done by 21st edition By which time cyborks will have been squatted
bigfish - Cheers! I think I've managed to mix stylised and more 'realistik' into the boyz somewhat, let's see if I can pull it off with some vehicles. Obviously we won't know for sure until paintings completed, so feel free to learn a language or two while we wait...
mullet - Yep, there is an argument for that
In this case though that would be closer to some exo-skeleton type affairs that I have kicking around - attaching to those nice back plates some of the boyz wear. The body that's being test-fitted there has actually had the back removed and replaced with half a large plastic tube, which forms a bio-mekanikal shoulder/hip joint. I'm considering bulking up that body a bit to run it as a nob - doesn't have to be huge as my boyz are a real mish-mash from across the galaxy and possibly beyond, all shapes and sizes of orkishness accepted
I was looking for this guy to have the bionik legs fitted to his shoulder, but as I said, there should be some with hip joints mounted behind the shoulder later on
And yep, wrong thread I think that was meant for CK
Llamahead - So it does. Missed that too, and that was my original plan for these castor wheels - four, one at each corner on short horizontal supports. And agreed, anything that reminds you of Anderson is all good in my book An SPV would make a cool looted wagon
Mp3 player's HD failed, so spent a few hours searching the interwebz for info and a replacement, chopped a big chunk out of planned hobby time. Then spent a few hours chopping up zombies in inventive ways in Dead Rising2, and kicking street trash about and dressing hostessess in Yakuza4. Oops, there goes more planned hobby time. You guessed it, another crap Sunday update
Glued together the buggy and created an underside and rear wheel guard, but the only thing to see is the addition of propellers (still no 'cockpit') so pics are pretty pointless.
Did roll up some plasticard and clamped it into one of those tape rolls overnight.
That's so the plasticard would fit against the rolls when glued into place.
Ohh, look at that. They're just the right height to connect a bridge to the outpost There's a magnet in the centre of the roof for attacment shenannigans.
That's if they're stacked anyway.
Top one could be an extension for the outpost? Not convinced by that tbh, I'll maybe chack again when there's some more detail/colour in place.
Bottom layer has a magnet just off-centre in the roof. That's because I forgot about it till it was glued to the CD, and I had to work through the spindle hole Thinking of a hatch to go on there, and a connector for a pipeline that comes from the 'plant-room' on the outpost. Want to be able to add the second level in a similar manner to the 'water-tank' shot above - on stilts.
This time I'm thinking the support struts will be on the exterior wall rather than on the roof - gives a few more options.
meh, that's about it...

A bubble canopy for the cockpit has been played with It'll depend on what shape the driver's compartment ends up - but if not here, then elsewhere. I got a couple of larger hemispheres for just that purpose Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually, that's an idea. The canopy CAN go over the turet hatch, and the dakka could be at the front, or on an arm. Hmm...

shaso - Cheers, it's switched about a bit from the original concept, but I think I'm there now, just need to order some bits. Or build them.
I'm still not totally sure on the big buggy, it may become a gun wagon. Or probably both
It's errr...it's an 'outpost', we'll leave it up to the viewer to decide exactly what that comprises
mullet - my grot stormboyz ride grot-koptas, so looks like it's time for a Skyrim break. I'm still amazed I haven't started it yet. Although I'm well aware that everything will fall to the wayside once I do
Arakasi - Wait. I need to figure painting time in too? Oh Maaaaan!
vik - It would have been a good idea to make it myself, but it was just cladding for the other tube. Our label printers at work use the same diameter tube so I've got no worries about finding another, I just wanted plastic on the walls for ease of adding stuff
dstein / Rogue Wolves - Cheers! Forgot the hazard stripes on this one, I'll try and remember on the next
Baiyuan - I'l see what I can do. Although I don't forsee anything that weird in the next week or so.
Skalk - lol As long as it's still cool that's what counts I'll admit the recent updates have been a little more haphazard than usual though Anything in particular you're not getting? Maybe nobody else is getting it either and it only makes sense in my head Or maybe it doen't make sense to me either.
HAZ - Thanks bud!
Scarp - Appreciate it man. I'll try and get some more weathering in for you
Llama - Cloud Base Space Hulk? SIG Chief! I'll keep my eye out for that
OK, everything going a bit slowly atm, and I predict the same for the next week or so. Actually, probably slow for most of Feb.
Bits and bobs done on a variety of things, no real progress to show on most.
Went for a pretty basic build for the latest outpost bit, nothing too fancy.
There's two posts either side and a magnet under the roof for adding gubbinz later - the two posts also keep the second one aligned when placed on top. Tissue paper for the cloths in the doorway. Couple of tank wheels for added something-or-other by the side.
Even added a touch of colour to it.
Walls got a dark flesh drybrush followed by kommando khaki.
Corrugated sheet got a chainmail overbrush followed by a mix of washes. The smaller plate got a blue wash over a chainmail/silver mix. Yellow was two thin coats of Iyanden darksun followed by a khaki drybrush. Sponged then freehand charadon granite, chainmail on top.
Green treadplate was knarloc with a gretchin drybrush, heavy sponging and touch up with dark flesh, chainmail then green wash, followed by lighter green, blue and sepia washes.
Mix of bronze and gold for the trim, hawk turquoise, vile green and vallejo virdigris for the err, verdigris. Most of the rivets have been touched up with silver/chainmial waiting for some dirty ol' washes.
Need to highlight the chips, weather the two posts and finish up the entrance-way, then touch-up the base.
I remember to post colours when I'm painting buildings, but not when I'm painting boyz
Anyhow, that'll do for now...
