Also what's the estimate on a leaked codex? (not asking for it just wondering so I can plan!)

First, why not? It's not like waiting will make a difference - what's on preorder now comes out on 6th, the next batch is released on the 20th.

Second, what a bizarre question. Do pirate-scum work to a schedule?

I meant 'internet leaked' 'pre-release' et cetera nudge nudge that sort of thing. Again not asking for it but just wondering.

And I don't see why I wouldn't wait until the 16th before ordering.

D'uh. I understand that, but who needs a crap leaked PDF when they can look at the finished product? Besides, all those leaks and illegal copies have not exactly done much good for the relationship between GW and its customers. Why do you think the lead time on previews has been cut so severely the past few years? If you're asking for a link to an illegal copy here on Dakka then you're violating the rules of the forum, among other things.

For those who have seen the codex, was there any art in there of things not shown in (new) mini form yet? Talos etc?

BA were pretty quiet on that front in the codex, but nids had tons of shots of un-released/non-existent models (tervi, tyranno etc), wondering if anyone spotted anything.

Or, conversely, if there was art for the Talos that looked the same as the existing model, which would indicate not to hold our breath...

The Talos isn't a bad looking model.

Well, ok, it is, but a re-do of the same basic design wouldn't be the end of the world!

Take a second look at the models. The rider is chained to the board against inertia. Now if they need to stop suddenly that is a different thing. Apparently stopping isn't a option for a Dark Eldar, lol.

Stopping involves hitting the ground (and assploding) or hitting something squishy (which then explodes).

Shoulda checked out the Talos entry but didn't. Scourges are VERY avian now, with organic feathered wings and beaked helmets. Wracks are scary looking...IIRC (only had a quick look), bared chests, muscles, masks, some kind of back banner/rack/thing? The general aesthetic might be a bit reminiscent of Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, although NOT with the actual pyramid helmet, if that makes any sense.

Regarding the models, their detail is even more impressive in person mainly because they're appropriately sized. There's no scale creep at work, at least for the Warriors. The pics don't give you the proper sense of scale. I think based on the detail I expected the Warriors to be roughly SM sized, and they're NOT.

According Jes original sketch, they have "shifting features, sometimes no mouth or eye, obscure by hair."

I guess some of the other models must have a mouth but are eyeless; it might represent the vast amount of warp energy flowing through their bodies and mutating them constantly, though not radically due to their natural resistance.

Thank you, that is very helpful. I think that particular model would do better with a jagged mouth of sorts, but that's just my personal preference.

I think the idea is not a bad one, and that even the execution (is this one of Jes Goodwin's? Or another sculptor?) is well done. But there's just something I don't quite like about the no mouth (or other missing features. I think I would put/sculpt on a mask of some sort. But then, I'm a big fan of masks...

and as to the Hellions:

Are the Hellions going to be metal? I sure hope not - metal models (especially ones with such tall profiles as these Hellions seem to have) are SUCH a pain. They're so top-heavy that you practicall have to glue a manhole cover to the bas, and pray that the stem stays in the hole securely, or you always have tipsy, heavy models, prone to breakage.

To invoke The Mozzer: "Please, please, please let me get what I want (plastic Hellions)."

Again, I think that the 'eavy metal team missed the fact that there are male and female arm pairs as well for Warriors, Wyches and Hellions.

Jes Goodwin wrote:
We wanted figures that could be assembled to look as if they were moving flat-out, their riders held on by the fine chain tethers that were a feature of the raider crew. As the models were primarily about the Hellions themselves we wanted to sculpt them physically, like the Warriors and Wyches, rather than digitally, as the Reavers were. Juan Diaz set about working out exactly how far he could push the 'dynamic' part of the brief, and we tried to work out how we could get physically representations of the boards at 3:1.

Also a neat little addition:

Jes Goodwin wrote:The finished designs were fully as dynamic as we had wanted, the addition of a new ball-ended flying stand allowed the boards to be tilted to emphasise the riders suitably wild positions.

Hope everything will be moving to these new ball-end flight sticks.

I think some share your views. When they were first revealed, it seemed like a lot of people had issue with the horns. I, for one, think they look great. They're my third favorite behind Lelith and the mandrakes. They seem like armoured samurai (which fits in this Japanese-theme style that the DE seemed to have taken.)

Ya know, I understand everyone is going to like everything about the new DE. I'm more than cool with that. I'm personally wowed by the new incubi because of a variety of reasons.

1. Over-all aesthetic
2. Level of detail
3. More dynamic posing
4. FREAKING HUGE SWORDS
5. They are now Elites.

Don't get me wrong, I love the old Incubi models which is why I have 24 of the damned buggers. But looking at them compared to the new ones...the old ones just look a bit silly by comparison.

I think the size is justified by the fact that the sword has 3 handles.

I'm not a huge fan of them myself either. I wanted them to stick more to the evil striking scorpion feel. But then they make them metal too which really ruined them in my opinion.

I'll probably buy them just to have, but I have a feeling I'll use them only for the squad leader. I'm already planning a warrior conversion with the hellion weapons using the warrior helmet with the scorpion'esque symbol on it as my incubi.
