@GiraffeX: Yeah. Really characterful bit there.

@nerdfest09: Thanks, buddy! Currently it's these two armies, yeah. Got several stuffs lined up though.

Okay, I spent way more time than planned with a stubborn printer today but finally got a nicer background for those World Eaters now:

And here's the Contemptor:

Here is a shot with a "cooler" background but for blue and white, the warmer one works better I think.

What do you think, Sirs?

Do like, the gore on the Contemptor is a nice touch.

@Gitspiltta: Thanks very much and good to see you again.

@Some_Call_Me_Tim?: Cheers!

@Tonny: Thanks very much, glad that you enjoy them!

@Kjeld: Cheers, I'm sure I mentioned it before but somehow I genuinely enjoy painting Space Marines.

@Goat of Yuggoth: Thank you for the comment! The blood is semi-glossy. maybe I'll give it a bit of gloss varnish or water effect here and there.

@Sir_Glonojad: Thanks very much once again. These are all commission stuff. I haven't had a Space Marines army since about two months after getting 2nd edition 40k starter box. It's not that I dislike Space Marines (not at all), there are just some armies I liked better. As for your Executioner (I'll be painting one of those very soon as well!). Yar, choosing Space Marine colours or chapter is hard. I like sticking to existing chapters. If you don't find any inspiring fluff I'd go see what colours you paint usually and then choose something for the Predator you usually don't paint much. Me, I'd love to see that tank in Ultramarines colours. Apart from that you can do a lot with the Lamenters colour scheme for example.

@Breazer: Cheers! If I'm lucky I'll be able to take some shots of the whole army some time in the future.

Mainly because I finally got the two bases to fit into each other again for once ( ) and because I quadrupled the memory on my computer yesterday and wanted to test how this results in picture editing - picture editing has become fun instead of an incredible time sink - I took an early WIP picture of Angron:

Yesterday the GW store closest to me had their birthday event (blimey, might be eight years now) and it was rather big. I wanted to go early on the day but technical issues kept me so I only showed up two hours before the closing. I brought a mini for the painting competition (for which I was the only one to enter up until about 20 minutes before the end at which two more guys brought on something). I ended up winning a 10€ voucher for the painting competition. Yay! I didn't really dare to give out any business cards though as I somehow got a slightly discouraging vibe from the store manager. Maybe he was just tired because it was the 7th hour of a very, very busy day. Also, the crowd there was pretty young so it was mostly a "go there, have a look at some GW stuff and new books, enjoy the thing, pack up and go home" kind of thing. Noticed a few things too - Those new hardback army books and codices do look very nice, are of great quality but I never asked for that. At this point all I want are special rules, stats and points values. It's not that I dismiss fluff in GW games - the truth couldn't be more of the opposite - but I tend to prefer the older fluff these days and I tend to pick the bits I like, dismissing other bits. In this regard I'm very much on the fence wether or not I'll get the new codices or army books for my armies when they are released.

As I had spent an unreasonable amount of money at the store a few days prior I also had a number for the prize draw. They were getting rid of some stuff they had collected over the years and which they got rid of this way. Amongst them was a Warhammer Fortress, a 2' by 2' 40k army presentation tile thing and a 2' by 4' one (both beautiful, good stuff.) and a 2500pts wood elves army along with presenation bases. Really pretty stuff. Didn't win anything. One guy had like four numbers and I think all of them were drawn. And it's not like there were few, I think there were over 60 numbers to be drawn from. He didn't win anything huge though. One very nice thing happened in that prize draw when the number of an asian guy who just was there on the day as a tourist was drawn and he won a beautifully painted Khemri Warsphinx.

The place was rather packed as well. Good stuff, nice event, and the staff did a very good job organizing everything. It's a good store really. They are helpful, but not pushy, organize stuff, communicate via Facebook, they know their regulars and keep the store in order. Sorry, no pictures but I felt bad for ruining the painting compeition for everybody else (of which there was nobody really. Guess I'm weird.) and not buying anything (even though I just did two days earlier. Guess I'm weird). Anyway, I didn't want to top that off by taking pictures of the people running around there.

Oh, there was one guy dressed up as an elf. He was kind of in the same position as I was by being the only one dressed up for the costume competition. Full-on LARP gear and all, pretty snazzy.

The greens and flames on those salamanders are really nice, did you gloss the pads or is it just a reflection on the bottom one?

@Gitsplitta: Thanks. I agree, it's a really dyamic mini diorama. The FW guys did a nice job on that one.

@GiraffeX: Cheers! That's just a reflection, reinforced by some battle damage in the very spot I think.

Little update on Angron, showing the slight change of plans on the overall colour scheme:

yes mate, I do really think so! I know the scheme is common for him but your execution of the golds and the tones on his face are simply unmatched in any other i've seen, also the use of the Salamanders marines is another colour that compliments him nicely, this isn't mini painting it's artwork!

Thats very nice indeed Sigur, I think you have the amount of blood just right. I've seen a lot of people over do it with this model.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks very much. Well, at least I put the picture up as Battle Brush Studios' title picture on Facebook.

@GiraffeX: Cheers, much appreciated. I'm always cautious about blood. I can see how on a model such as this you can easily go overboard with it (and in one little place I did so went back and fixed it. Not only looked it way better with less blood in that spot but it also looked way more realistic now).

Okay, now that the pictures are up "officially", here are some more:

What do you think? Enough blood, too much blood, angry enough, enough red? I'm very happy with how the model turned out. Had a good time painting him too.

Seriously cool Siggy. I love the semi-translucent blue on the Rapier that makes it look like the blue was painted over the grey. I mean I know it was... but most of us just completely slap blue on the grey which is fine... but on your side shots especially... it looks like the character of the background is coming through the blue a bit as if the factory paint job didn't quite cover completely... I really like that effect. Adds a whole new dimension to the realism of the piece.

Nicely done.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks. Entirely intended of course. Blue was pretty sought after around that time you know, with Ultramarines taking most of it and the rest dilluted and given out to all the other legions. One of the secondary reasons of the Heresy, but historians are still divided on this.

Ave Caesar, morituri te salutant!

Two nights ago I met for a game of test game of Impetus with a friend (it's good. Feels like 'DBA plus'). He recently got himself a blister of Wargames Foundry Gladiators and gave a few of them to me to paint them.

Just a quick slapping-on of paint and there they are:

That Angron... FW should hire you to paint their stuff, you seem to have found details in the model that no one else could! Any plans to do the Fulgrim model when it is released?

Rapier is also stunning, I hope to be able to paint that kind of battle damage one day, even if it takes the rest of my life!

While I am not a fan of those gladiator models (a bit too blobby for my tastes), you have done a great job with them, love the tattoo.

@GiraffeX: Thanks!

@Commander Cain: Cheers, I think they should. Not to blow my own whistle here but I think that the Angron example on the FW page is a bit lacking in terms of how "vibrant" it is. That's just me though, probably a matter of taste. God knows how old these Gladiator sculpts are but I like them. I really like the sculpts you can see that they were made by a human being. Having lots of problems on the other hand with many computer-modelled minis.

GiraffeX: Thanks! Nothing too exciting. Some Warhound stuff, mostly World Eaters stuff - things like that.

World Eaters Space Marines with Chainaxes ripped my flesh!

Again, no banner. I'll do those three at once in the end I decided. Oh, and no shoulder pad squad symbols as of yet either. Those guys basically were the last few of the first batch of minis I basecoated so i had to get those out of the way before I can start the next batch.

Looking great Siggy! have you done the lenses yet? I can't quite tell if they're blending in with the shadows or not? but if you haven't I think making them a real bright focal point would really draw the eye as the rest of the mini is consistently weathered and while they look stunning (really really good for WE!! ) it may look a little cookie cutter? I mean no offence by that it's just hard to describe what i want to say :-)

anyway they're not done yet and i am champing at the bit to see the final result as well as a group shot *shuddering with excitement!*

@Dysartes: Cheers. I've been called out on the Librarian on Warseer as well, some other guy jumped in and somehow argued that it might be possible. Because the legions were ordered to abolish Librarians after the council of Nicaea or some 40k equivalent of the city but it's not really noted that everybody really did that so yeah. WE Librarian. I guess.
